2. The audience is able to easily identify the genre of
this film through the 2 minute trailer which is crime
thriller. The audience is also able to recognise the
genre from watching the trailer, through the use of
mise en scene, music (diegetic and non-diegetic) and
setting.
Genre
3. - We are able to understand the narrative of the film from
watching the trailer. The voiceover used in the trailer at the
beginning helps the audience to understand the narrative. It
informs the audience the main character in the film has
recently made an enemy and a group of people will soon
come to look for him. He will have to act fast, otherwise he
will be killed including his family.
- The audience is then introduced to the two main families
who run the city. One of the families get help from a well
known man and ask him to train the main character.
Throughout the middle we see the main character training
to become a skillful fighter.
- Near the end the audience watch fight battles between that
take place between the two families and many other
people. Right at the end the main character is standing in
front of his enemy ready to fight him.
Narrative
4. The unique selling points in this trailer are:
- the characters
- dialogue
- voiceover
- music - diegetic and non-diegetic
- special effects
- the main action
Unique Selling Point
5. The target audience for most crime thriller films is
18+ and is most of the times aimed at males. The
target audience for this trailer is 18+ as it involves
violence, knives, guns etc. It is targeted towards
males, because mostly males are featured in the film.
This is because crime thriller films mainly attract
males than females.
Target audience
6. - There is some Non Diegetic sound that has been
added as the trailer is playing. For example, the
voice over, which clearly informs the audience of
the narrative. Another example is the use of music,
which starts of very slow and starts to get faster as
the main action kicks in that creates suspense,
builds up tension and draws the audience in.
- Diegetic sound is used eg. the dialogue of the
characters speaking to each other
Sound
7. ❧ The trailer starts of with an establishing shot, which sets the scene by
giving the audience an overview of where the film is set.
❧ It goes into a medium close up shot of the main character who is driving.
The use of this shot informs the audience that he is worried or looks
angry as he is driving really fast, as if to prevent a disaster that is going to
take place.
❧ It then follows with a wide long shot of men in masks walking one
behind another with bags in both hands. This shot informs the audience
that they might be up to something. This relates back to the close up of
the main character, because it might be that he is speeding to stop them
from doing something really terrible. This shot type also shows the
setting. The setting looks like a very private place, as though to make it
look like no one else is aware of this place apart from
Shot types/camera angles
8. - The pace of the trailer is quite fast, as it goes
through lots of different scenes and events that
take place throughout the film in a montage. The
pace of the trailer starts of slow, so the audience is
able to carefully listen to the voice over and
dialogue without having any other fast paced
imagery in the trailer that may lose their
concentration.
- The pace builds up and starts to get faster as the
many different scenes and events are shown. For
example, the pace builds up when the fighting
scenes are shown.
Pace
9. - There is dialogue at the start of the trailer to make
the film seem more dramatic. The voiceover is of
a man telling another man what is going to happen
to him which makes it seem like a dialogue. This
part of the trailer is asynchronous because it does
not link to the events shown in the trailer.
- The dialogue between the leader of one of the
families asks a man who is prison to help him
undercover when he goes to meet him in prison “I
want you on my team, go undercover”. This
connotes that they are preparing for a big battle.
- There is not much dialogue in this trailer, just like
other trailers. This is because dialogue is not
necessary to explain the events, as they don’t need
explaining.
Dialogue
10. Many special effects are used in this trailer. For
example, the car crashing into the building and the
explosions of the guns. However, the diegetic sounds
have been covered by the non diegetic sound of the
music. These special effects go really well with the
crime thriller genre. They make the audience
intrigued and excited in a way that makes them want
to watch the full film. Through the special effects we
are able to see who the main character in the film is,
as he appears more in the trailer than any other
characters.
Special effects
11. There are not many credits or intertitles within this
trailer. Right at the start of the trailer the name of a
film festival is introduced. The last intertitle is the
name of the film which is black, capital letters and in
front of a red blood background to make it stand out.
The use of the red background goes well with the
genre as it connotes danger and bloodshed.
