1. Change of plans!
When it came to finalising my mockup and hearing feedback I realised
that the image I wanted to use on my front cover wouldn’t work as the
image isn’t centered and Emily’s hair covers most of her
shoulders, therefore this would cause difficulty when it came to producing
it on Photoshop and trying to cut Emily out. I then decided to change the
image I wanted on my front cover. The new image is still very similar to
the original one I wanted to use as it’s still sticking to the idea of using the
hat as a motif; the only difference is that Emily fills the frame more and
her pose is different making it easy to cut. However I didn’t have time to
create a whole new mockup but the concept is still the same the only
thing being I changed the photo.
2. Why this layout for my digipak and
advert?
I came across Olly Murs ‘Right time Right place’ cover which I took some inspiration from. I
liked the idea of having the album name written across the background repeatedly and is
something that I wanted to incorporate into my work. As I want to have only 4 panels for
my digipak the inside panels are going to link with the outside panels as I’ve decided to
have the same design ‘Broken Record’ written all across the background and images of
Emily wearing the hat. I think having four panels is simple, easier to work with yet can be
still effective and I think the layout I've chosen and images work well together in promoting
Emily as a new artist.
For my advert I didn't’t want to create something that diverged from the digipak cover so
for that reason I’ve chosen to have the same image on the advert. This straight away makes
a connection between the two also making it easier for the fans as to when they want to
buy the copy they know what it looks like. I've added details such as where you can buy and
download it from. ITunes and HMV are both places where the target audience would be
familiar with, so they can have a real copy and a digital copy. I also added the artist website
which is somewhere the fans can keep up to date with what she’s doing, however
something I plan to do but I forget to add on my mockup was any social networking sites
such as Twitter or Facebook as it’s something that the target audience are bound to use and
can also follow what the artist is doing.
