The Experience Machine By Nozick
Have you ever wished you could have anything you wanted in life? I know I have. I've always wanted a world where everything would be to my
liking and nothing would be to my dissatisfaction. Nozick sets up a scenario where we can get a maximum amount of pleasure by plugging into an
"experience machine" that allows us to undergo anything we wanted while we are in a tank with electrodes attached to our heads. One will be
plugged in for two years at a time but while one is attached, the experiences are going to seem like they are actually happening. He takes this machine
to disprove the hedonism view that says consciously experience pleasure is the most important thing to living a good life. In his opinion he would not
plug in because while one is in the machine, one cannot do certain things, be a certain person or come in contact with reality. I had never really thought
about the option of experiencing anything I wanted versus living a normal life before, but after reading The Experience Machine by Nozick, I would
pick living in a normal life because even though experiencing anything I wanted would cause as much pleasure as possible, it limits one to things that
are important to human life such as being able to physically perform or experience things and having an impact in society
The experience machine makes one feel like you are actually performing or experiencing the things one is doing while plugged in but in reality, as
Nozick described, you are "floating in a tank with

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Smart Machines
This article explains what exactly smart machines are and how they are used through out the world today. Smart machines are becoming so common
and widely used and they will only continue to expand though out the future years. Information of things (IoT) and smart machines go hand in hand
and this article will discuss why that is. There are many advantages to using smart machines, but in return, there always comes some disadvantages. We
use smart machines in our every day lives to retrieve information and to make our lives easier.
Technology is constantly changing and advancing, which is the biggest reason that smart machines are growing in the technology industry. There are
now things such as Artificial Intelligence, self–driving cars, and many other machines that work together in order to help human's problem solve and
make decisions easier. Businesses are becoming smaller and losing employees because we now have advanced smart machines that can run a business
for them. Before we know it, smart machines will be able to run almost anything and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These four components all go into what smart machines are and how they help businesses through out the world. Smart machines are a competition in
the workforce today against human employees. They can do human jobs better, and at a cheaper cost to the company or corporation itself. Although
there are disadvantages with smart machines and Information of Technology, and they may be taking our jobs. These machines are making the
world a safer place. When a sensor detects there is a mechanical issue with your vehicle it will alert you to let you know that there is a problem that
should be addressed in a timely matter. This feature saves lives. Smart machines save lives. In todays world, nobody would know what it would be
like to live without smart machines, and this will continue to hold true as the world evolves, and technology evolves with

Imperialism In The Time Machine
The Values of British Imperialism: Implications on a Futuristic Society
H.G. Wells' The Time Machine recounts the trip of a scientist, the Time Traveller, from Victorian England to the future where humanity has been
reduced to two sub–species: the Eloi and the Morlock. The novella examines how key values of Victorian England, such as self–improvement, shape
the social structure of the Victorian period and the cascading effects of these values on the society of the future. In the Victorian social pyramid, the
upper class, white, educated male was at the top. In this social hierarchy, under this Victorian male, were the rest of the English workers and the
women. This social structure also applied to the colonies that England controlled. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Time Traveller is disappointed with how the Eloi "had the same form of costume, same hairless visage and the same girlish rotundity of limb"
(24); the Eloi lacked individualism and masculinity. This accounts for part of the Time Traveller's disappointment. The other part of the Time
Traveller's disappointment stems from his frustration with the course of evolution because he believes that humanity has moved toward "contented
inactivity" (28). In the eyes of the Time Traveller, the Eloi society does not equate to Victorian society in regards to the overall complexity and
intellect just as the imperialistic British thought the societies of their colonies did not have the same complexity and intellect as Victorian England.
This parallel leads the Time Traveller to treat the natives of the future, the Eloi and the Morlock, just like the British treated the native of their colonies,
with complete disrespect. The two groups of the future act very differently towards the Time Traveller. As Cantor and Hufnagel describe the two
sub–species, there is a good tribe and a bad tribe (38), which in The Time Machine are the Eloi and the Morlock respectively. The good tribe in this
novella is pleasant towards the Time Traveller, providing basic necessities for his survival. In regards to the Morlock, the bad tribe, the Time

Technology In The Machine Stops, By E. M. Foster
All People can agree that as time passes, things change, the world evolves and innovations advance...possibly a bit too much. Technology could be used
as an example of something that advances throughout time. The Machine Stops, a story written by E.M. Foster, is a story written in 1909 about a
dystopian community that was taken over by machines and because of the machines, the people were completely brainwashed by the machine and it's
doings, and they all adapted to a life where isolating themselves from the outside world is a must, and because of the machine, it's a norm that they live
by. The people believe that the machine is actually helping them, and the highest believer of that claim is Vashti, a character in the story who completely

This illustrates how much people actually choose technology over the outside world. Also, In The Machine Stops, ""Be quick!" She called. But it was
only 15 seconds." Machines and technology have taken over society to the point where even spending 15 seconds doing nothing and hearing nothing
but silence is an actual waste of time, yet once again, people can relate to that today. It is true that time is precious, but when it's gotten to the point
where it's a waste of time when one sits and thinks. That's where technological advancement crosses the line. In conclusion, over time, people have
made a choice to choose technology and machines over going out and facing the real

Machines In John Steinbeck's Grapes Of Wrath
Men create machines. Machines destroy men. Will this be the vicious cycle that ends mankind? With machines taking over, it is difficult to see any
other possible outcome. Machines are more efficient, more intelligent, and overall better workers than the humans who created them. They have
already dominated over the farming industry, destroying homes and families, as seen in John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath". In this novel, the Joad
family is forced from their home by efficient tractors that have taken over all the farms in their area. They must travel across America from Oklahoma
to California, leaving their home and everything they have ever loved behind. On their journey, they face death of loved ones, starving children, and the

This word choice makes the machines sound like threatening and dangerous beasts attacking the land and the humans. They destroy life without care,
barreling through people's property. Moreover, in "The Robots are Coming", Dargan personifies machines by describing them as animals: "with
clear–cased woofers for heads, / no eyes. They see us as a bat sees / a mosquito–a fleshy echo, / a morsel of sound." (lines 1–4). They see and hear us
as an animal would – without eyes, they can only hear. This

Smart Machines: Trending Technology
Smart Machines: Trending Technology If the name Watson was mentioned in the IT world, more than likely everyone would know what the name was
associated with. Watson, a computer that can interact with humans, sense, decipher and recognize questions and answer them with unbelievable
accuracy. Watson's introduction to the 21st century was aired on the popular TV show "Jeopardy." The competition Watson faced while playing on the
game show were some of the best players to ever play the game. A one–word summary of how the human mind compared to the smart machine over
the course of three episodes was undesirable. Watson embarrassed two of the best players to ever participate in the show. The speed at which Watson
processed verbal questions and answered them was nothing short of amazing. It was evident that each member of the team that created Watson had a
strong sense of accomplishment for how his or her machine preformed. So now there is a really smart machine that can win on a game show, big deal.
What does this really mean? Although Watson is an exception to the current list of smart machines, there are still many of them, and as evident with
Watson, the IT world is continuing to press forward and enhance the smartness of each machine. What can we expect for the 2020? What are potential
positive and negative effects of smart machine for each American? What consideration should be made globally before implementing this type of
operating system? These are all

The Time Machine Essay
The Time Machine As I understand it, Darwin in his book ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES published in 1865, argues that natural selection leads to
adaptive improvement. Or even, if evolution isn't under the influence of natural selection, this could still lead to divergence and diversity. At one time,
there was a single ultimate ancestor, and from this, hundreds of millions of separate individual species evolved. This process where one species splits
into two different species is called speciation. Subsequent divergence leads to a wider separation of taxonomic units, the genera, the families, the
orders, the classes, etc. Creatures that are completely different, for example, snails and monkeys, evolved from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Elois evolved from middle class people who married people in their own social quarters. The Elois have found no necessity to diversify, so
they haven't. The Elois are vegetarians and only eat fruit and vegetables, which are provided for them by The Morlocks. The Morlocks also
provide the Elois's clothes. Wells has shown that the two different species have evolved to suit their needs and natural habitat. The Morlocks have
large eyes, like those of nocturnal animals, like bats and owls. The eyes are shaped like this so that the light is drawn to the retina, therefore
enabling them to see in the subterranean community. The Morlocks have very pale, white skin like that of animals that live in the dark, e.g. the
white fish of the Kentucky caves. The Morlocks have an air filtration system to pump fresh air into their sub terrain, and another system that removes
the waste air. These pumps resemble water wells. The Elois are small and very weak. What do they need muscles for? They never need lift anything
heavier than a large fruit. The Elois have difficulty walking any great distance, needing to rest frequently. However, they don't need good walking
skills as they never need to walk anywhere? Their attention span is very short; they don't need to concentrate on anything in particular for any great
length of time. The Elois are

Gears and Simple Machines
Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as the wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make
difficult work much easier. The six simple machines consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can be found
in many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners. The most common object, in which gears are found, is the car.
The car's steering wheel is a simple machine, called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are located in the
engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears around, causing the car to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that
have teeth all around the outer rim, or just a wheel with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear's teeth fit into a second gear, it will cause that
second gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This can then be continued by adding more gears, which in turn create a system of
gears. A gear system can be used to function amachine, such as car's gear shift. This system is called a gear train. Whichever gear starts the gear train
by rotating is called the driver. The final gear on the opposite end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed Gears is a gear train of five or more
gears. There are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal gears. All these gears are

Time Machine Fear
H. G. Wells' novella The Time Machine is a story about the price for a life of luxury. Through his writing, he warns society of what could happen if
they continued the path they were on. Arriving in the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society has
split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in theupper class that the working class would engage in an uprising and throw
them from power. This brought the desire for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. Degeneration occurs when people live in a
society that requires little work and there is dependency on others for food, shelter, and clothing. No physical labour means extinction of the survival ...

These include 'poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working–class areas of cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as
alcohol, tobacco, or opium' (Vorachek 200). Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They lived
underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as 'very stuffy and oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the
air' (Wells 54). The cannibalism of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a fear of the working
class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities 'can be seen as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some
following the growth of militant trade unionism and working–class political organisation' (Partington 59). The Time Traveller addressed this fear and
how the upper class seemed to have combated it. He stated 'The too–perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of
degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence' (Wells 49). The Eloi became comfortable in their security that they no longer
needed to defend themselves; consequently, leading them to being slaughtered by the

The reason as to why the Enigma Machine was a major objective and required a specific group of people to solve was because it dictated how the
Germans communicated and was an extremely complex machine that only the most intelligent people could potentially solve. The Enigma Machine
was a code–generating machine used by the Nazis during World War Two. What appeared to be a typewriter in a suitcase, theEnigma Machine had
essentially 4 main components to itself: the keyboard, the lamp board, the plug board, and the rotors. The keyboard was arranged in a German

The commercial Enigma Machine that was sold prior to the war had no plugboard, as the reason for secrecy was not on the same degree as sending
decrypted messages containing information such as coordinates of an attack. The plug board was a component at the bottom of an Enigma machine
that resembled a telephone switchboard. There were once again the letters arranged in the German QWERTZ layout and each letter had two sockets
for an electrical lead to be connected to another letter. Finally there were three rotors in every Enigma Machine: the fast, the middle, and the slow. To
add onto the complexity, there were 5 rotors to choose from. Each rotor would have 26 numbered "ticks" to represent the 26 letters in the alphabet and
for every letter typed, the fast rotor would turn once. After turning 26 times, the middle rotor would turn once and the process would repeat until the
middle rotor turned a total of 26 times. Once the middle rotor turned 26 times the slow rotor would turn once. Within each rotor was a complex maze
of 26 wires that connected 26 contacts on the right hand of the rotor to the 26 contacts on the

13 Reasons to Recycle Your Washing Machine
Do you have a washing machine that is more than a decade old? Of the 76 million washing machines used in the country today, 25 million are at least
10 years old. The washing machines that were manufactured before 2003 are relatively less efficient than the ones produced now. All these inefficient
washing machines, together, cost users more than $2.9 billion in both energy and water.
You need to give up your old and used washing machine as it's inefficiency is costing you $180 in utility bills, every year! This is the most important

Advantages Of Virtual Machines
Abstract
This paper refers to the features of Virtual Machines and Virtual Machines Monitors describing the performance and challenges as well as mechanisms
such as fault tolerance, high availability and v–motion. Main theme depicts that modern servers are designed sufficiently powerful to use virtualization
into many smaller virtual machines (VMs), each running a separate operating system instance [1]. Numerous systems have been designed to get
virtualization by utilizing the storage resources like SAN and processing & memory resources Like Servers and network infrastructure to build a

Artificial Intelligence Or Ai Is A Science Of Machines
Artificial intelligence or AI is a science of machines. Machines are set up to perform functions that would require brain power and decision making.
These machines have been designed to solve math problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The basis of the
story is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal with things on an everyday basis not knowing what the
outcome will be. There are also information sensitive creatures such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores what has been
received and produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the computer to provide the information. There has always been a
comparison between human minds and computers, but this has caused a great deal of debate. For instance a computer has to be fed information in
order to produce an outcome. The information has to be fed by a human, but the effectiveness depends on what the programmer is trying to
accomplish. The first article talks two robots names Harry and Henrietta. Harry is a humanoid form that communicates just a human on any subject.
People may believe that he is really human. But one cannot really say whether he is human or not based on the actions that is displayed just like a
real live person. Harry does not have organs like a human or produced as a human. Henrietta who is human has been set up with synthetic materials.
Everything else about Henrietta stays the same as if she was

Equality In The Time Machine
The Journey for EqualityThe sole equality on earth is death. Although true equality may not be attainable in this world, Wells explores what life
would be like if peace and equality was normal. The Eloi and Morlocks are used to represent his ideas, and although they have differences, they are
both given the chance to become better. H.G. Wells manages to incorporate a sense of equality throughout his novelThe Time Machine.
H.G. Wells leaves the characters nameless in order to create a sense of equality among them. The very first thing Wells does is introduce the characters,
because without them, there would be no audience to tell the story to. The characters are important to the novel, yet most of them remain nameless.

Wells portrays a manipulative relationship between the Eloi and the Morlocks. The Eloi abused their power and in return, the Morlocks took it
over. Starting in chapter five and throughout the rest of the novel, we see the hostility of the two groups. The Eloi hate the dark because of the
Morlocks. The Morlocks terrorize and eat the Eloi as portrayed by the Time Traveller. Upon finding this out, the Time Traveller jumps to the
conclusion that the Morlocks are bad. In fact, the Eloi had it coming to them, they dealt a dirty blow and they received a bigger one. Wells used his
knowledge to interpret what would happen if one group was given the upper hand for too long. It's only natural for the Morlocks to retaliate, and this
nature is why equality is never attainable. Although the two groups are depicted as enemies, they are equal in certain ways. Both groups were given a
chance to excel and it happened at different times. The Morlocks were able to assess the situation, and given there opportunistic origins, were able to
make the best of it. Neither group is better than each other, but neither group is worse either. This equality between them, although fleeting, depicts a

Revolution, a time where technology and human innovation was at one of its highest points in recent history, both stories explore the possible effects of
the machinery that was becoming evermore present. Both authors present aspects such as omnipotent technology, decaying human independence, and
destruction of real communication, to create the artistic statement that complacency is rising within the human race, and that complacency will
eventually lead to the fall of mankind. In both stories, the authors speak against human complacency and deference to technology, warning that it will
lead to the creation of weaker people and society that will ultimately destroy the human race, yet that complacency is present in today's culture and due

The Physics Of Pinball Machines
Pinball machines clearly demonstrate scientific principles that can teach us not only about machines, but also of the laws of physics, electricity, and
applying basic materials. Most Simple machines consist of inclined planes, levers, screws, pulleys, wedges, and wheels with axels. Most common
materials used in making a pinball machine include, but are not limited to: metal, plastic, wood, rubber, and steel.
Players use the only tool provided, the Flipper. Below the playfield, the linkage moving the flipper uses the lever while the mechanics behind the
flipper button switch also rely on the lever. Inclined planes create ramps, while wedges drive the ball away from pop bumpers. Wheels with axels run

Pins adapted from the Ninteenth to the Twentieth centuries, to electrical wiring and switches to power devices and light scores in darkened bars and
pool halls.
Eventually mercury switches gave way to leaf switches, and then on to electronic optical switches. In the Twenty–First century Stern Pinball installed
MP3 files of recordings from popular movies that coincide with the game theme, and you can even download updates to the software, or reprogram the
machine to create new modes and sequences. Opto switches use laser technology and Jersey Jacks has been putting full color LCD screens into his
Wizard of Oz machines.
Moving on to how the lights and sounds effect us as a people, I believe that the flashing lights and loud noises emitted from a pinball machine just
appeal to our curious and excitable nature. Nothing can capture my sons attention faster than the Star Wars pinball machine at the local laundromat,
even more so than the racing arcade games and the vending machines right next to it. The reason for this, in my opinion, first off is the noise, he
hears the dings and whizzes, and sound bites from the beloved movie, recognizes the familiar faces of Luke Skywalker, Yoda, and Chewie on the
board, an immediatly, he has to play it. I dont think just a stationary poster would have his attention so fast or so tight, he may offer a glance, may
even offer a comment like "look momma, Yoda", but when he hears the noises, see's the lights, he recognizes right away that this is fun, and he must

The Machine Stops
The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster is about a dystopian society in which human lives are controlled by the Machine. Every need and desire is
available to the people of the Machine literally at the push of a button. However, those that are unsatisfied with this life are considered heretics and
face exile. The Machine Stops criticizes anti–existentialist views as they eventually lead to the downfall of humanity. Kuno is the existentialist
protagonist of the story whose aberrant behavior sets him apart from the rest of society. Unlike the other inhabitants of the Machine, In a world where
"Men seldom moved their bodies" (5) and babies who show athletic potential are killed, Kuno intentionally develops muscle by walking and by lifting
his pillow.

The Application Of Machine Learning
In the recent years, machine learning has made very significant leaps in terms of development. It has undergone a lot of improvement, growth in the
industry. Because of its ability to learn and improve itself and make predictions based on data, its popularity has grown leaps and bounds in the recent
years mainly due to the large scale data processing and managing capacities of machines nowadays. Many applications of machine learning has come
into picture in the recent years.
Machine Learning makes use various learning techniques based on the type of problem at hand or the data available. One of the most important
learning technique is the 'Supervised Learning' technique. Supervised learning makes use of already available labelled training data to infer a function.
The training data is then used to make generalization for making predictions for the test data by introducing an inductive bias into it. Supervised
learning methodology has been applied fairly successfully to Bioinformatics, Cheminformatics, Database Marketing, Information Extraction and
Retrieval, Object Recognition in Computer Vision, Spam Detection, Game Playing, Speech Recognition, etc.
There are many different approaches to supervised learning. Some of these are widely applicable and others are applicable only to certain specific set
of problems. Some of these are NaГЇve Bayes classifier, Nearest Neighbor Algorithm, Decision Trees, Support Vector Machines, Gaussian Processes,

Singer Sewing Machines
America during the nineteenth century saw a rise of the modern middle class. With this came dramatic changes in family dynamics. It can be seen that
most middle–class American families remained quite patriarchal throughout the 1900s, however, it was women not their husbands who actually
controlled the homes and tended for life at home. Due to this, I believe that the advertisement targeted household women. 2. Why did Singer choose the
slogan "All the nations Use Singer Sewing Machines"? What point is the company trying to make. After the 1880s, a rise in immigration could be seen
from Eastern and Southern European countries, as well as Canada and Latin America. By 1910, Eastern and Southern Europeans made up 70 percent of
the immigrants entering the country. It is this mass of immigrants coming to America, potential customers, that alludes to "All the nations Use Singer

The artists depicts these women as hunched over, with heads mostly bowed over their work, but the faces that Leslie does depict wear a vacant or
tired look. The closest woman to the viewer is the individual who is being yelled at by her supervisor. She stares vacantly into space, as if this is
an everyday occurrence, while the man in charge shakes his fist at her. One can assume that he is yelling based upon his expression. His face is
pinched as if in outrage, and the addition of a raised fist leads the viewer to believe that he is yelling out of anger. This visual depiction coupled with
the raggedy appearance of the women's clothes, and the plainness of the room they're in leads me to believe that this is not a happy place to work.
Additionally, the only visible light source for the room is two small windows that the artist has drawn in the background. This only further adds to the
depressing atmosphere that Leslie has depicted to his

Toyota 's Method For Tracking Machine Breakdown
The Ford Motor Company is an automotive manufacturer, like Toyota, that has delays in the production process caused by machine failures. Machine
breakdowns within the manufacturing plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer satisfaction
(Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount of production time by establishing a step–by–step process to
repair specific machine breakdowns efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair the problem
based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown
has occurred in the past.
Ford's method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and the processes that were taken to solve the issue
(Sampson, 2004). This provides information quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once the
solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and the solution are listed, the program also shows every
machine containing the characteristic affected by the solution (Sampson, 2004). This allows the solutions to be better utilized to improve the
efficiency and reliability of similar machines because it can be used to prevent future breakdowns. For example, Ford found a valve to continually fail

Themes Of The Time Machine
Once in my basketball game, my team was losing by many points. However, we never gave up and started to make a comeback. The crowd was
getting louder as the final seconds approached. There was 2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because we
never gave up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, "The Time Machine". This novel is about a time traveler
who traveled far into the future and encountered strange humanoid creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks
had stolen his Time Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his Time Machine back and he travelled back home.
An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells
states,"So I came back. For a long time I must have been insensible upon the machine." This evidence show show the main theme of the Time
Machine is that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home for a long time and he never gave up. He was
eventually able to get home and this shows how since the time traveler was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel is
that you should never give up. Another piece of evidence that H.G. Wells includes is on page 1 and it states,"There I object,' said Filby. 'Of course a
solid body may exist. All real things–'" This evidence shows how the

Abstract–Voting is most pivotal process of democratic society through which people determine it's government. Governments around the world are
increasingly considering the replacement of traditional paper–based voting schemes with electronic voting systems. Elections of Bangladesh are
conducted most exclusively using electronic voting machines developed over the past three years. In this paper we describe the design, construction

Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines, insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate
descriptions of the configuration of commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for which the code is
written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or
deliberate reading and reproduction of the code contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the microcontroller
can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data
file created. This process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the
capturing of voter's intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all configuration data is set up on the counting
server. The conп¬Ѓguration is then transferred to the ballot–box server. Conп¬Ѓguration data include: candidate names, polling station identity, and a
list of barcodes. During the voting period, voters are authenticated as per the traditional paper–based voting, and asked whether they wish to vote
electronically or use the traditional paper–based method. A voter

Advantages Of Letter Folding Machines
First of all, every company in this business should have few things as their goal. Being fast, efficient and cost–effective is something that companies
should be seeking. In this essay I'll try to discuss about couple ways how to fasten and make mailrooms more effective and efficient. Letter folding
machines can save a lot time and somebody's effort. For instance if you are trying to send a lot of commercial mails, we are talking about huge
numbers here. Folding all these letters can be really time consuming and tedious. All of this is completely unnecessary since today we have automated

small mailing business. They are easy to handle and they have multiple folding options in their systems. Moreover, these machines have great accuracy
and precision that will satisfy all the requiring needs for this job. It can fold more than seven thousand papers per one hour. In my opinion this is
called ''automation''! There is also a perfect solution for making a pressure seal documents. These types of machines are called pressure sealers. They

Student Politics: The Machine
"It's not a place for the fainthearted. Student politics at Alabama are as rigorous as the student athletics" (Brown). In 1914 Theta Nu Epsilon fraternity
at the University of Alabama formed a secret organization known as "The Machine". This organization was formed in order to ensure that the Greeks
would have total control over the Student Government Association(SGA). Each year when elections roll around The Machine places their nominations
for each government position. In years past at the University of Alabama this organization has done whatever it took to ensure their candidates were
elected, even if that meant physical or emotion harm to the other candidates. The Machine must come to an end. In order to end an organization that is

University officials must be willing to recognize the faults of The Machine, and be willing to punish those faults. An example would be placing all
fraternities and sororities that are involved in the organization on probation until they terminate their involvement. Without sororities and fraternities,
the organization does not exist. The biggest change will come when non–Greek students unify and fight this organization together. An organization so
ingrained in tradition will not end overnight, but the University of Alabama has to start somewhere. The secret organization known as "The Machine"
must come to an end, and a new chapter in politics must begin. Works Cited

Can A Machine Know Essay
One of the most biased and controversial topics in the field of philosophy is that of a statement, and the questioning of "Can a machine know." The
problems associating and surrounding this topic are endless, because of all the different biases, reasonable and skeptical thoughts that people contribute
to the discussions. On an occasion when this turmoil question comes up an individual might be comparing and thinking that a plain toaster is a machine
which is true and yet someone else compares the newest breakthrough in technology such as a robot and they might say that its "knows" what it is

The company Honda has made a robot that they say is by far the most advanced one in the world today, they quote on quote have said" it is just like

programmed to raise its arm and move it up and down when someone else does, so it mimics your moves and looks up the possible outcomes in its
data base, this is NOT an example of a real human. A human has the ability to process the knowledge or what you have said to him or her and have
his own opinion and bias towards the conversation or the activity that he or she is involved in, where as a robot just performs the task that it is
given and programmed to do, if you were to insult the machine in any ways it would not talk back nor would it be hurt by your actions. Hondas
robot just performs the tasks that it is programmed to do such as walk on black circular lines. What I am getting at is a machine just performs the
tasks it is made to do with no regret bias or any feelings towards the function.

The Machine Stops Summary
In Forster's dystopian short story "The Machine Stops", the ways of communication are different from the conventional practice. Most characters
seldom communicate face–to–face, which is a way of direct human contact they avoid. This leads to conflict between the characters. Vashti, Kuno's
mother, finds the conversation with Kuno a waste of time and remains unwilling to visit him until he insists. Kuno, who seems to be a misfit in that
world, wants to see his estranged mother, not through the Machine which Vashti worships and heavily depends on. Other forms ofcommunication also
appear, such as Vashti's monologue–like lectures. The various forms of communication are similar in the way that they usually end abruptly and
unhappily. The unresolved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Kuno asks Vashti for a visit, she instantly refuses and backs up with the reason that she "dislike[s] airships" (Forster, 2) and the "horrible brown
earth, and the sea and the stars when it is dark" (Forster, 2), from which she "get[s] no ideas" (Forster, 2). By considering whether an activity allows
them to get ideas, it depicts how characters over–rationalise their behaviours that should have been done out of mere intuition. This foregrounds the
theme of ideas being mechanical just like a machine. Whereas first–hand ideas and experiences are conventionally thought to provide the most
intellectual and reliable knowledge, the characters in the dystopian story value second–hand ones more, such as listening to lecture about the sea or
reading the Book. That is why Vashti pulls the window blinds in the airship to avoid seeing the scenery outside. As for Kuno, he tells Vashti that he
believes otherwise and passionately responds that he has a strong interest in looking at the constellation. The fact that Kuno explores the surface of the
earth is an excellent example of showing his engagement in collecting first–hand

Essay On Machine Scheduling
Description Of Machine Scheduling
1–1 Definition Of The Scheduling Problem Scheduling is the process of assigning limited resources to a set of jobs over a period of time. The
resources may be machine in a workshop, runways at an airport and crews at a construction site, as well as processing units in a computing
environment. The jobs may be operation in the production process, take–offs and landing at an airport, stages in a construction project, executions of
computer programs[30]. The goal of scheduling is to assign resources to the jobs such that one or more objective are optimized. Scheduling becomes
an important concern when resources are limited and need to be utilized to complete many competing jobs efficiently. Many real world scheduling
problem are multi–objective by nature. Traditionally, the most common approach has been to combine the multiple objective into a single scalar value
by using weighted aggregating ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of such a dimension is the number of the available machine and the way how these machines are organized. Then one machine
sequencing problem is the simplest one: all jobs have to be processed on single machine and no two jobs can be processed simultaneously. There are
four classes of job shop scheduling problems [30]
1.2.1 Single Machine Scheduling
The single machine scheduling problem involves scheduling a set of jobs to a single resource. This is accomplished by determining a sequence that
includes each job, and it assigns the jobs to its source. Each job can give a priority, ready time, processing time, and due date. The value of the
performance measure can be computed on the base of this information and the sequence of jobs. This problem grows in complicity at an exponential
rate as the number of jobs to be scheduling

Machine-to-Machine Technology and Analytics
Introduction
On the horizon of big data, is "an ecosystem of solutions" that uses embedded devices to facilitate real–time analysis of events and data among the
"Internet of Things" . Machine–to–Machine technology and analytics is the promising future of the big data era. Its exponential growth and
advancement promises a plethora of solutions and new ideas, but as with all innovations, it will also create a wave of new issues, problems and
complications that, given its scale, magnitude and speed of development will certainly challenge as much as it benefits the legal industry.
What is M2M & IoT?
Machine to Machine (M2M) is a broad label that can be used to describe any technology that enables networked devices to exchange information and
perform actions without the manual assistance of humans. Products built with M2M communication capabilities are often marketed to end–users as
being "smart" . The interconnection between "smart" objects and the way we interact in the environment is described as the Internet of Things.
How does it work?
Sensors (which are devices with processor, memory, storage, inputs and outputs, OS and software capabilities that gather and/or disseminate data on
just about anything ), are attached to objects, and the objects' identities, state or state of surroundings become capable of being relayed to an Internet
connected IT structure. The sensors relay data to the outside world through local area and wide area, wireless or wired links. . Local, on

The Experience Machine By Nozick

  • 1. The Experience Machine By Nozick Have you ever wished you could have anything you wanted in life? I know I have. I've always wanted a world where everything would be to my liking and nothing would be to my dissatisfaction. Nozick sets up a scenario where we can get a maximum amount of pleasure by plugging into an "experience machine" that allows us to undergo anything we wanted while we are in a tank with electrodes attached to our heads. One will be plugged in for two years at a time but while one is attached, the experiences are going to seem like they are actually happening. He takes this machine to disprove the hedonism view that says consciously experience pleasure is the most important thing to living a good life. In his opinion he would not plug in because while one is in the machine, one cannot do certain things, be a certain person or come in contact with reality. I had never really thought about the option of experiencing anything I wanted versus living a normal life before, but after reading The Experience Machine by Nozick, I would pick living in a normal life because even though experiencing anything I wanted would cause as much pleasure as possible, it limits one to things that are important to human life such as being able to physically perform or experience things and having an impact in society The experience machine makes one feel like you are actually performing or experiencing the things one is doing while plugged in but in reality, as Nozick described, you are "floating in a tank with ... Smart machines are becoming so common and widely used and they will only continue to expand though out the future years. Information of things (IoT) and smart machines go hand in hand and this article will discuss why that is. There are many advantages to using smart machines, but in return, there always comes some disadvantages. We use smart machines in our every day lives to retrieve information and to make our lives easier. Technology is constantly changing and advancing, which is the biggest reason that smart machines are growing in the technology industry. There are now things such as Artificial Intelligence, self–driving cars, and many other machines that work together in order to help human's problem solve and make decisions easier. • 3. Imperialism In The Time Machine The Values of British Imperialism: Implications on a Futuristic Society H.G. Wells' The Time Machine recounts the trip of a scientist, the Time Traveller, from Victorian England to the future where humanity has been reduced to two sub–species: the Eloi and the Morlock. The novella examines how key values of Victorian England, such as self–improvement, shape the social structure of the Victorian period and the cascading effects of these values on the society of the future. In the Victorian social pyramid, the upper class, white, educated male was at the top. In this social hierarchy, under this Victorian male, were the rest of the English workers and the women. This social structure also applied to the colonies that England controlled. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Time Traveller is disappointed with how the Eloi "had the same form of costume, same hairless visage and the same girlish rotundity of limb" (24); the Eloi lacked individualism and masculinity. This accounts for part of the Time Traveller's disappointment. The other part of the Time Traveller's disappointment stems from his frustration with the course of evolution because he believes that humanity has moved toward "contented inactivity" (28). In the eyes of the Time Traveller, the Eloi society does not equate to Victorian society in regards to the overall complexity and intellect just as the imperialistic British thought the societies of their colonies did not have the same complexity and intellect as Victorian England. This parallel leads the Time Traveller to treat the natives of the future, the Eloi and the Morlock, just like the British treated the native of their colonies, with complete disrespect. The two groups of the future act very differently towards the Time Traveller. As Cantor and Hufnagel describe the two sub–species, there is a good tribe and a bad tribe (38), which in The Time Machine are the Eloi and the Morlock respectively. The good tribe in this novella is pleasant towards the Time Traveller, providing basic necessities for his survival. In regards to the Morlock, the bad tribe, the Time ... • 4. Technology In The Machine Stops, By E. M. Foster All People can agree that as time passes, things change, the world evolves and innovations advance...possibly a bit too much. Technology could be used as an example of something that advances throughout time. The Machine Stops, a story written by E.M. Foster, is a story written in 1909 about a dystopian community that was taken over by machines and because of the machines, the people were completely brainwashed by the machine and it's doings, and they all adapted to a life where isolating themselves from the outside world is a must, and because of the machine, it's a norm that they live by. It is true that time is precious, but when it's gotten to the point where it's a waste of time when one sits and thinks. That's where technological advancement crosses the line. With machines taking over, it is difficult to see any other possible outcome. Machines are more efficient, more intelligent, and overall better workers than the humans who created them. They have already dominated over the farming industry, destroying homes and families, as seen in John Steinbeck's "Grapes of Wrath". In this novel, the Joad family is forced from their home by efficient tractors that have taken over all the farms in their area. Smart Machines: Trending Technology Smart Machines: Trending Technology If the name Watson was mentioned in the IT world, more than likely everyone would know what the name was associated with. Watson, a computer that can interact with humans, sense, decipher and recognize questions and answer them with unbelievable accuracy. Watson's introduction to the 21st century was aired on the popular TV show "Jeopardy." The competition Watson faced while playing on the game show were some of the best players to ever play the game. A one–word summary of how the human mind compared to the smart machine over the course of three episodes was undesirable. Watson embarrassed two of the best players to ever participate in the show. The speed at which Watson processed verbal questions and answered them was nothing short of amazing. It was evident that each member of the team that created Watson had a strong sense of accomplishment for how his or her machine preformed. So now there is a really smart machine that can win on a game show, big deal. What does this really mean? Although Watson is an exception to the current list of smart machines, there are still many of them, and as evident with Watson, the IT world is continuing to press forward and enhance the smartness of each machine. What can we expect for the 2020? What are potential positive and negative effects of smart machine for each American? • 7. The Time Machine Essay The Time Machine As I understand it, Darwin in his book ORIGIN OF THE SPECIES published in 1865, argues that natural selection leads to adaptive improvement. Or even, if evolution isn't under the influence of natural selection, this could still lead to divergence and diversity. At one time, there was a single ultimate ancestor, and from this, hundreds of millions of separate individual species evolved. This process where one species splits into two different species is called speciation. Subsequent divergence leads to a wider separation of taxonomic units, the genera, the families, the orders, the classes, etc. Creatures that are completely different, for example, snails and monkeys, evolved from... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Elois evolved from middle class people who married people in their own social quarters. The Elois have found no necessity to diversify, so they haven't. The Elois are vegetarians and only eat fruit and vegetables, which are provided for them by The Morlocks. The Morlocks also provide the Elois's clothes. Wells has shown that the two different species have evolved to suit their needs and natural habitat. The Morlocks have large eyes, like those of nocturnal animals, like bats and owls. The eyes are shaped like this so that the light is drawn to the retina, therefore enabling them to see in the subterranean community. The Morlocks have very pale, white skin like that of animals that live in the dark, e.g. the white fish of the Kentucky caves. The Morlocks have an air filtration system to pump fresh air into their sub terrain, and another system that removes the waste air. These pumps resemble water wells. The Elois are small and very weak. What do they need muscles for? They never need lift anything heavier than a large fruit. The Elois have difficulty walking any great distance, needing to rest frequently. However, they don't need good walking skills as they never need to walk anywhere? • 8. Gears and Simple Machines Gears are part of one of the six simple machines, the wheel and axle. Simple machines, such as the wheel and axle, are mechanisms created to make difficult work much easier. The six simple machines consist of the inclined plane, screw, lever, pulley, wedge, and wheel and axle. Gears can be found in many household items today. For example, watches, bicycles, and pencil sharpeners. The most common object, in which gears are found, is the car. The car's steering wheel is a simple machine, called the wheel and axle. Gears however, are not found in the steering wheel, but are located in the engine. The gears are then controlled by the gear shift, which spins the gears around, causing the car to move or brake. Gears are circular objects that have teeth all around the outer rim, or just a wheel with teeth. When in movement, if a singular gear's teeth fit into a second gear, it will cause that second gear to rotate in the opposite direction of the first gear. This can then be continued by adding more gears, which in turn create a system of gears. A gear system can be used to function amachine, such as car's gear shift. This system is called a gear train. Whichever gear starts the gear train by rotating is called the driver. The final gear on the opposite end of the train is called the driven gear. Meshed Gears is a gear train of five or more gears. There are many other gear types such as Spur gears, bevel gears, worm gears, rack gears, and internal gears. All these gears are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Time Machine Fear H. G. Wells' novella The Time Machine is a story about the price for a life of luxury. Through his writing, he warns society of what could happen if they continued the path they were on. Arriving in the future, thanks to the time machine that Wells created, readers observe a world where society has split into two species. In Victorian England, there was a fear residing in theupper class that the working class would engage in an uprising and throw them from power. This brought the desire for security, which is what the Eloi hold in the year 802,701. Degeneration occurs when people live in a society that requires little work and there is dependency on others for food, shelter, and clothing. No physical labour means extinction of the survival ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These include 'poor air and water quality and the cramped conditions of working–class areas of cities; poor diet; and the use of narcotics such as alcohol, tobacco, or opium' (Vorachek 200). Wells used these environmental factors when creating the living space of the Morlocks. They lived underground in dark tunnels which the Time Traveller described as 'very stuffy and oppressive, and the faint halitus of freshly shed blood was in the air' (Wells 54). The cannibalism of the Morlocks also played on another fear of society in the fin de siГЁcle. Since there was a fear of the working class causing the degeneration of society, the cannibalistic activities 'can be seen as representing the imminent proletarian revolution feared by some following the growth of militant trade unionism and working–class political organisation' (Partington 59). The Time Traveller addressed this fear and how the upper class seemed to have combated it. He stated 'The too–perfect security of the Upperworlders had led them to a slow movement of degeneration, to a general dwindling in size, strength and intelligence' (Wells 49). Machines are set up to perform functions that would require brain power and decision making. These machines have been designed to solve math problems, play games, assemble products and can be a form of communication. The basis of the story is to understand whether robots can think or function like humans. Humans deal with things on an everyday basis not knowing what the outcome will be. There are also information sensitive creatures such as digital computers. A computer is given information, stores what has been received and produces an outcome. In the end, a human is the one to program the computer to provide the information. There has always been a comparison between human minds and computers, but this has caused a great deal of debate. For instance a computer has to be fed information in order to produce an outcome. The information has to be fed by a human, but the effectiveness depends on what the programmer is trying to accomplish. The first article talks two robots names Harry and Henrietta. Harry is a humanoid form that communicates just a human on any subject. People may believe that he is really human. But one cannot really say whether he is human or not based on the actions that is displayed just like a real live person. Harry does not have organs like a human or produced as a human. In fact, the Eloi had it coming to them, they dealt a dirty blow and they received a bigger one. It's only natural for the Morlocks to retaliate, and this nature is why equality is never attainable. Although the two groups are depicted as enemies, they are equal in certain ways. Both groups were given a chance to excel and it happened at different times. The Morlocks were able to assess the situation, and given there opportunistic origins, were able to make the best of it. In past years there has only been one way to vote, via a paper ballot. That you either mail in or go to the polls and cast your ballot. Recently the goverment has come up with an electronic voting machine. Some beleive that paper is better and others think that voting machines are the way to go. weather you vote on paper or a machine, it's still important to get out and vote. Forster Projections that have been made about how today's society and culture will look in the coming years, decades, and centuries, all have yet to be seen in how valid they are. If you look in any sort of media: television, social media, or radio/music, you will see people giving their interpretations of what will become of our world down the road. Yet, few people look to see how our the current state of culture and society reflect the projections made by people in previous years, decades, and centuries. In looking at the visions of the future presented by both novelas, The Time Machine by H.G. Wells, and The Machine Stops by E.M. Forster, each story presents aspects of society that prominently appear today. Written during the Industrial Revolution, a time where technology and human innovation was at one of its highest points in recent history, both stories explore the possible effects of the machinery that was becoming evermore present. Both authors present aspects such as omnipotent technology, decaying human independence, and destruction of real communication, to create the artistic statement that complacency is rising within the human race, and that complacency will eventually lead to the fall of mankind. In both stories, the authors speak against human complacency and deference to technology, warning that it will lead to the creation of weaker people and society that will ultimately destroy the human race, yet that complacency is present in today's culture and due to the ... • 29. Toyota 's Method For Tracking Machine Breakdown The Ford Motor Company is an automotive manufacturer, like Toyota, that has delays in the production process caused by machine failures. Machine breakdowns within the manufacturing plant, caused delays and stoppages that lead to increased production times and decreased customer satisfaction (Sampson, 2004). In 1995, Ford initiated a program that effectively reduced the amount of production time by establishing a step–by–step process to repair specific machine breakdowns efficiently (Xu, 2013). When a breakdown occurs the program lists the solutions on how to repair the problem based on previous machines with similar issues. This provides corrective actions that are quickly, efficiently, and reliably identified if the breakdown has occurred in the past. Ford's method for tracking machine breakdown includes information about previous problems and the processes that were taken to solve the issue (Sampson, 2004). This provides information quickly on how to solve the problem for any given breakdown that occurs during production. Once the solution to the problem is discovered, it can be repaired immediately. When a breakdown and the solution are listed, the program also shows every machine containing the characteristic affected by the solution (Sampson, 2004). This allows the solutions to be better utilized to improve the efficiency and reliability of similar machines because it can be used to prevent future breakdowns. For example, Ford found a valve to continually fail because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The crowd was getting louder as the final seconds approached. There was 2 seconds left, and Julien Flores shot the ball. Swoosh. We had won the game because we never gave up. Persevering through obstacles is the major theme in H.G. Wells novel titled, "The Time Machine". This novel is about a time traveler who traveled far into the future and encountered strange humanoid creatures. The world was very different and another species called the Morlocks had stolen his Time Machine. The Time Traveler persevered through this and he eventually got his Time Machine back and he travelled back home. An example of the main theme in The Time Machine being how you should persevere through obstacles is found on page 104 and H.G. Wells states,"So I came back. For a long time I must have been insensible upon the machine." This evidence show show the main theme of the Time Machine is that you should never give up because the Time Traveler has been trying to get home for a long time and he never gave up. He was eventually able to get home and this shows how since the time traveler was able to get home because he persevered, the main theme in the novel is that you should never give up. Among the reasons for concern, critics include vague and incomplete security guidelines, insufficient documentation requirements, and inadequate descriptions of the configuration of commercial software. An electronic voting machine has been designed by a microcontroller for which the code is written in assembly language. Various code protection schemes specified by the manufacturer of the microcontroller are used to prevent inadvertent or deliberate reading and reproduction of the code contained in the microcontroller. The election data contained in the EEPROM of the microcontroller can download into a central computer for tabulations. The security of data in this computer is enforced by generating digital signatures for each data file created. This process makes it impossible for anyone to substitute wrong or deliberately altered data files at any intermediate stage between the capturing of voter's intent by the machine and the final results tabulations. Prior to the election, all conп¬Ѓguration data is set up on the counting server. The conп¬Ѓguration is then transferred to the ballot–box server. Essay On Machine Scheduling Description Of Machine Scheduling 1–1 Definition Of The Scheduling Problem Scheduling is the process of assigning limited resources to a set of jobs over a period of time. The resources may be machine in a workshop, runways at an airport and crews at a construction site, as well as processing units in a computing environment. The jobs may be operation in the production process, take–offs and landing at an airport, stages in a construction project, executions of computer programs[30]. The goal of scheduling is to assign resources to the jobs such that one or more objective are optimized.
