Abstract
This report is on Working from Home vs. full time employment, now it is the most talk of the
topic in the world during this pandemic Covid-19. It is the best way to do the official task from
home as well as now we are learning that all type of employees don’t need to go to office
throughout the week or month. It is possible to do some works in home and we can get the more
productive result from it. In 1st
part I discussed about the Working from Home (WFT), its benefit
and disadvantages too.
In 2nd
part, I discussed about the Full time employment, advantages and disadvantages of full
time employment. In the 3rd
part, I discussed about the difference between Working from Home
vs Full time Employment. On the 4th
and final Part, Findings, Recommendation, Conclusions and
References are added.

Chapter-1: Working from Home
Working from Home (WFH):
The abbreviation WFH (Working from Home) can be found in the early 2000s on such places as
Usenet newsgroups. WFH can be found widely used on Twitter in 2006, the year the platform
launch, suggesting the abbreviation was already well-established in digital communication by
this time.
It is a work arrangement in which employees do not commute or travel (e.g. by bus, bicycle or
car, etc.) to a central place of work, such as an office building, warehouse, or store. WFH came
into prominence in the 1970s to describe work-related substitutions of telecommunication and
related information technologies for travel. Teleworkers in the 21st century often use mobile
telecommunications technology such as a Wi-Fi-equipped laptop or tablet computers and
smartphones to work from coffee shops; others may use a desktop computer and a landline
phone at their home. According to a Reuters poll, approximately "one in five workers around the
globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, telecommute
frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day. In the 2000s, annual leave or
vacation in some organizations was seen as absence from the workplace rather than ceasing
work, and some office employees used telework to continue to check work e-mails while on
vacation.
Along with this, WFH may make it easier for workers to balance their work responsibilities with
their personal life and family roles (e.g., caring for children or elderly parents). Some
organizations adopt WFH for environmental reasons, as WFH can reduce congestion and air
pollution, with fewer cars on the roads.
If you’re going to be Working From Home, you need to put systems in place to be successful—
things like a dedicated home office space (don’t even think about regularly working from your
bed or your couch), a defined work schedule (no matter how flexible your schedule is, you need
to plan ahead and know when you’re going to work), and clear boundaries (friends and family
need to know when you’re working and respect your time and space). Once these systems are
established, your home can become an ideal workplace even while juggling domestic tasks.
In early 2019, interest in WFH spiked during the coronavirus outbreak. That’s because many
employers and organizations enacted WFH policies to help stop the spread of the disease by
“moving online,” meaning conducting their business at their places of residence over the
internet.

The Key Elements of a Work from Home Policy
1. Policy Brief and Purpose: Mention clearly what the intent of your work from home policy is,
and what you are aiming to achieve by providing job opportunities from home.
2. Scope and eligibility: Specify which positions are available for remote work within the
organization considering client-facing responsibilities, software limitations, and cybersecurity
risks. It will help in reducing excessive or unnecessary work from home requests.
Also, clarify who will accept work-from-home applications, and on what basis each application
will be assessed. Will HR supervise the process, or will the individual manager review it?
However, they should consider the following elements before deciding 'who' can work from
home:
I) Does the nature of the employee's job allow them to work from home?
II) Are there any security or privacy issues?
III) Do they have the required software or equipment installed at home?
IV) What are the conditions in the employee's place of work?
Apart from these, the work from home policy should also mention 'when' the employees can
work from home. Generally, they can work from home:
I) On certain occasions.
II) Full time.
III) Every day, by dividing their time between being at the physical workplace and their remote
workstation.
3. The request process: The entire procedure of requesting work from home should be laid out
clearly- should employees make a formal request, or do they need to register themselves or have
a discussion with their manager? Provide a gradual rundown of what they need to do to have the
right to work from home.
4. Attendance and Availability Standards: The availability expectations of the remote workers
must be outlined in work from home policy. It can be a challenge to bring your people to the
desk and get their input right on time. To avoid this problem, you must set standards around
when and how your remote workers should be available.
5. Productivity measures: The policy should also specify how remote workers' productivity will
be measured. It can evaluate in a variety of ways, like depending on the time spent on the
project, number of cases handled, amount of customer interactions, and more.

6. Equipment and Tech support: It needs to state what equipment and tech support will be
offered to their remote employees. If the company expects them to use their own laptops, for
example, it must be mentioned in the policy. It should also outline what they are supposed to do
when having technical difficulties have an action plan for that as well.
7. Response measures: The policy should define whether or not the remote workers are expected
to respond to the manager or a colleague immediately. Also, it should streamline the
communication channels, promoting a healthy bonding between workers and supervisors.
8. Compensation and Benefits: If working from home has any effect on the compensation and
benefits of the employees, the policy should mention it.
9. Rightful Termination: Many employers feel uncomfortable providing the work from home
opportunities because of the lack of face to face communications. However, the work from home
policy should contain the fact that no employee will be fired on the grounds of operating
remotely.
10. Dress code: While working from home, employees still have to be in touch with colleagues,
clients, or business partners via Video conferencing. For this condition, a note about the suitable
dress code while home working is reasonable.
11. Physical environment: If you, as an employer, prefer your remote workers to work on a
particular physical environment, don't forget to put in the policy. Many companies tend to test
and approve the same before working remotely.
12. Security: All the specific requests regarding official security and client confidentiality must
be stated in the policy. For example, if you don't want your remote worker to use a public Wi-Fi,
then that should be mentioned for employees to be cautious while working from a public place.
Benefits of a Work from Home Policy and Reasons Why We Need It Right Now:
1. Flexible Work Schedule: A work from home policy allows you to adjust the days and hours of
work. Employees feel no rush, take breaks anytime they want and can manage a perfect work-
life balance. This factor plays a significant role in the lives of parents who have young kids. It’s
the best way to balance your family’s need for your income with your necessities to spend time
with them.
2. Increased Productivity: If you think that the coronavirus will affect your productivity and
business, you are probably wrong. This past survey result will surely amaze you.
Airtasker, a gig economy platform, surveyed 1004 full-time employees about their daily
productivity. It found that office workers reported staying idle for about 37 minutes a day,
excluding lunch and regular breaks. Whereas, employees who work from home are more
productive, who spend only 27 minutes per day being unproductive?

The reasons for maximized productivity at work from home are many. Firstly, employees can
command working conditions. Like say, they can keep the room temperature as they like, some
might like the music playing while others might want to work sitting in the garden. Such
advantages are endless in work from home policy.
3. No More Crowds and Traffic: Peak hour traffic congestion is the biggest challenge that
employees face every day. Indeed work from home is the only practical solution to deal with it.
It also gets cheaper as you don’t have to worry about your travel expenses anymore.
4. Reduced Stress Level: When you work from home, there are hardly any office distractions.
There is no annoying co-workers, no office politics, and no mental pressure. Under this
condition, you are free to be as creative as you can become. Also, you can customize your own
workplace setup. One study found that just adding plants to your workplace could reduce work
stress and negative feelings by 30-60 per cent.
5. Healthier Body: Work from home allows you to save some extra time each day. That’s when
you can start taking some extra care for your health. You can catch some extra sleep or spend
them on physical activities or meditations. By sitting less, you can get a better posture and avoid
back pain. You will also prevent the junks from your office canteen and start cooking healthy
lunch! All these will lead you to a better physical and mental health which will also improve
your daily life.
6. Meaningful Goal Setting: Working from home is often subjected to distractions and it
becomes difficult to set boundaries between personal and professional lives. Therefore, it is
extremely important to set meaning goals for employees to ensure effective utilization of time.
Layout of a new structure of goals, keeping in mind about the new setting. Set clear deliverables
and specific metrics that will enable you to track outcomes and measure results effectively.
Conduct virtual meetings from time to time to take updates and ensure that things are on track.
7. Rewards & Recognition: Employee recognition is a proven way to motivate and engage
employees. But when teams are fragmented, recognition tends to become slower and infrequent.
This is probably the best time to switch to a digital R&R platform. The advancement of cloud-

8. Encourage learning: Your employees are saving up a significant amount of time on

Learning & Data Analytics are top-rated across industries. You can offer an e-learning course of
their choice from the plethora of online courses that are available in the market. You may also
encourage non-work related courses such as painting, cooking classes, self-defense classes and
so on.

Provide support for equipment and other necessities
If you want your employees to deliver the best, you must equip them with the best tools and
technologies. Modern offices are generally equipped with state-of-art technologies but when
your people are not working from office this can become a challenge. It becomes a massive
hurdle in their productivity. You must look into these crucial aspects and provide employees
with equipment’s that they can carry home. If buying laptops in bulk is not feasible at the
moment, make sure offer them financial assistance like bearing broadband costs.

1. Willpower: Willpower is the motivation to exercise will. A person with strong willpower will
assert decisions even in the face of strong opposition or other contradictory indicators. A person
with little willpower will give in easily. So there is a chance to lose the will power by working in
home.
2. Sticking to a routine: What makes a routine a routine is you sticking to it. The obvious, well
known routine tactics are mandatory. But sometimes it is not possible.
3. Missing important calls: In home it’s may happen to miss important call for involving others
family works as like as cooking, taking care to family members etc.

4. Power naps: Sometimes, one can take naps that may be increased to a power naps. But on the
other hand there is no chance to take naps in office.
5. Boredom: By working in home and doing same task again and again can make one’s boring.
And also there is no coffee shop to refresh the mind or colleagues for gossiping.
6. Working Slowly: In the office it’s easy to work fast by using a protocol but sometimes in
home it’s not possible to work fast in home.
7. No second monitor: There is no second monitor in house, it there is an electrical problem or
programming problem then the work can be continued thoroughly.
8. Iffy Wi-Fi: The speed of Wi-Fi can be very slow and there may be not be sufficient facilities
for high speed Wi-Fi. That can hamper the working environment.
9. Waiting for answer: Sometimes it’s taught to get the answer or right order on right time from
home. There may be some misunderstanding and miscommunication.

Chapter-2: Full Time Employment
Full time employment:
Full time employment is employment in which a person works a minimum number of hours
defined as such by their employer. Full-time employment often comes with benefits that are not
typically offered to part-time, temporary, or flexible workers, such as annual leave, sick leave,
and health insurance. Part-time jobs are mistakenly thought by some to not be careers.
Full-time status varies between companies and is often based on the shift the employee must
work during each work week. The "standard" work week consists of five eight-hour days,
commonly served between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM totaling 40 hours.
While a four-day week generally consists of four ten-hour days, it may also consist of as little as
nine hours for a total of a 36-hour work week. Twelve-hour shifts are often three days per week,
unless the company has the intention of paying out the employee overtime. Overtime is legally
paid out anytime an employee works more than 40 hours per week.
The legal minimum for overtime starts at Base Pay + One-Half. The increased payout is
considered to compensate slightly for the increased fatigue which a person experiences on such
long shifts. Shifts can also be very irregular, as in retail, but are still full-time if the required
number of hours is reached. There are some situations where a person who needs full-time work
is dropped to part-time, which is sometimes a form of constructive dismissal to avoid
paying unemployment benefits to a laid-off worker.
A long-term, full-time job can be both beneficial and detrimental. It can give you a sense of
safety and provide opportunities to advance in an organization, but it can also stop growth,
prevent you from learning new skills or experiencing new trades in the workforce; which is one
of the reasons why people are changing jobs more than ever before. In today's evolving

workplace, it's rare to find professionals that spend many years in the same organization. Rather,
it's expected for millennial workers to have multiple positions under their belt which can come in
the form of various freelance and part-time jobs. To get a clearer picture of full-time
employment, we've covered both the benefits and disadvantages below.
The advantages of Full Time Employment
1. Holiday and sick pay: If you are a full-time employee, you will receive more annual leave and
sick days than part-timers, as paid time off is usually calculated based on the number of total
hours employed. By having more days off you can plan for holidays, short-breaks and can take
time out when you're sick without feeling too guilty.
2. Job advancement is easier: No one can guarantee that you will be offered a promotion, but you
have more chances of qualifying for any advancement opportunities than part-time or temporary
workers. Another positive of being a permanent employee is that the company views you as a
long term investment, and they will be more inclined to invest in your development and help you
advance the career ladder. And if you don’t get offered a promotion, you will - at least - have a
secure job and continue to receive pay increases.
3. Companies offer insurance benefits: Most people would say that one of the best advantages of
a 9-5 job is company-subsidized or company-paid insurance benefits. These insurance policies
include things such as health, life, disability or even accidental death with many companies

offering family coverage as well. Even though this usually comes after the probation period (3-6
months), it’s nevertheless a massive cost that you don’t have to pay for.
4. You have a fixed schedule: As a full-time employee, you will have a fixed schedule with
specific working hours. This means that you will be able to plan the rest of your day accordingly
without being unsure of your work schedule. No one will call you to change your working hours
at the last minute or swap shifts. Some people would call this monotonous, but if you want some
stability in your professional life, full-time employment can offer you this.
5. A fixed salary: Your employer will provide you with a fixed salary on a weekly or monthly
basis. All you have to do is complete your job duties and meet your daily or weekly quotas, be a
good employee and at the end of the month, you will get paid a specific amount of money. This
way you can plan and pay all your expenses, put money aside for other long-term investments
and feel safe that, no matter what, you will have money in your pocket for at least one more
month.
The disadvantages of full time employment
1. You become stagnant: Sticking with one employer can result in career stagnation. You
become comfortable with the pay, the amount of work given, and the workplace environment.
You’re just happy to have a job. You don’t even consider thinking about any other careers. At
the same time, you may become robotic in the same routine. A long-term boss may give you the
same daily demands making it an easy schedule to follow. But, you might find yourself
constantly fulfilling the needs of your employer and that’s it. This can hold you back from
realizing talents and gifts you never knew you had.

2. Realizing your true potential is hard: While we’re on the subject of unknown talent, a 9-to-5
job can make you feel like you’re working inside a box. You go to work day-in and day-out
without asking any questions about other people's duties and remain confined to your tasks and
your cubicle. Believing whatever your employer says to you blinds you to other passions you
may have. Your curiosity to know what else is available to you in the outside world is taken
away from you. All that is common to you is the job you are doing, meaning that your true
potential will never be reached.
3. Buying and selling services become blurred: When you work under someone, you are
obviously selling a service that the employer is buying from you. Without any hesitation, you
fulfil tasks and assignments that are given to you. These projects, more than likely, have no
worth to you as a professional person, but they do for your boss. In addition, you aren't investing
your efforts in projects that have no personal value, but rather do your job to receive a pay
cheque at the end of the month. There is no clear reason as to why you completed certain tasks
other than you were told to - or else it could have jeopardized your career.
4. Your CV is boring and lacks various experiences: Having the same job for many years can
negatively affect your CV. As mentioned before, companies sometimes look for an array of
experiences when considering a potential candidate. Since you’ve been working for the same
employer for X amount of years, your CV becomes dull and dry, lacking versatility in skills and
services. A boring CV may get you overlooked by competition that has varied experience in their
career history. Meanwhile, the key to having a top-tier CV and cover letter is opening yourself
up to other occupations, whether they end up being similar or completely off-center from your
profession of choice.
5. Job hunting becomes difficult: Full-time work can make it hard for you to get back in the
groove of job hunting. If you haven’t looked for a job for a long time, you may not know where
to begin. As mentioned before, becoming too content with where you are could lead to disaster;
especially if you find yourself laid off or fired from your job. Also, your employer may be a
person who tries to hold you hostage. They may give you bonuses or rewards as a way to keep
you satisfied with the job. If you’re anxious to see what else is out there, then don’t let your
current job prevent you from expanding your horizons.
Full-time employment is not for everyone. Depending on your needs and current situation, it may
harm you or benefit you in many ways. Since there are several possible advantages and

Working From Home vs. Full Time Employment
What are the differences between working from home versus working in an office? Let’s
compare them side-by-side to help you understand the unique advantages and disadvantages of
each. Research from Owl Labs suggests that approximately half of employees typically work
from home at least once a week and a third work remote jobs full-time.
Many organizations have shifted their tools and systems for remote teams for the first time due to
the COVID-19 pandemic. For employees and employers, this is a major adjustment.
1. Commuting: The average American worker spends at least 27 minutes on their daily commute
to work, and it is getting worse. More than 14 million people spend an hour or more traveling to
work,” according to NPR. That’s a lot of time you can save by becoming a telecommuter!
Telecommuting is another way to say working remotely or from home by making full use of the
internet, email, and phone.
However, some folks enjoy waking up early, getting ready, and having the separation of home
and the office. This is why many folks who work remotely still opt to go to a coffee shop or a co-
working space. The bottom line is people hate commuting. Work-life balance continues to surge
on the importance meter for modern-day employees. Companies that don’t recognize this are
missing a huge opportunity to adopt work from home strategies that benefit their workforce.
A poll posted by CEO of Product Hunt, Ryan Hoover, suggests that most people would take a
pay cut if it gave them the ability to work remotely. Perks like infinite vacation time, free food,
and 401k weren’t as important when compared to the benefits of working remotely.

2. Communication: According to research from our 2020 State of Business Communication
Report, face-to-face communication is the most preferred communication method by employees.
Not counting video conferencing, face-to-face communication is something you really only get
in an office space. It’s not only beneficial when planning for business, but it strengthens
relationships and rapport with other employees. There’s something about relationship-building
that happens when you sit next to someone or bump into each other at the coffee machine.
Communication still happens when you’re working remotely — it’s just different. Face-to-face
communication turns into video calls. Short conversations turn into Slack messages. Emails …
well, those stay emails. Nobody escapes those!
One compelling advantage of working from home is the ability to work anywhere. You don’t
even need a laptop. With a full-featured business phone app, employees can make and receive
calls, attend conference calls, message colleagues, and stay online using their iPhone or Android.
To improve communication for remote employees, we’ve seen many organizations require video
conferencing over traditional phone calls when communicating with coworkers. Teams should
have conference calls to align themselves with business goals. For fun, employees can even host
online game nights to get to know each other outside of office life.
Some teams even rely on social media for communication. For example, Close.com says
they use Snapchat internally for team building. It’s a cool and clever way to use social media to
stay connected while working remotely.
3. Flexibility: When working from an office, it’s likely you have a set schedule. Your alarm goes
off at the same time every day, you grab your morning coffee at 7:05 am, and you’re at your
desk by 9 am ready to work.
When it comes to working from home, it’s a little different. You now have the flexibility to wake
up when you choose and tailor your day to your needs. If your company is new to remote work,
chances are they still want all employees working the traditional work hours of 9-to-5. With
remote work, you can now wake up (a little) later, pick a time for lunch, and close your laptop
when you want — for some, that’s 4 pm, others it could be 7 pm. As more companies adopt a
remote-first policy, working hours will shift to fit the employee’s schedule. This shift means
more flexibility on when you start and end your day and where you work from. You should be
able to work from anywhere that has a solid internet connection!

Many employees struggle to disconnect when working from home. Up to a third of employees
say they struggle to balance work and home life when working remotely. It’s easy to shut down
your computer when you see fellow office workers start to pack up for the night, but when
you’re at home, those cues don’t exist.
The option to freelance and take on side projects is another massive benefit that comes with
working from home. The time you waste on commuting could be put toward taking on side

Office Environment vs. Home Environment
Do you work from a cubicle? An open office plan?
When working at the office, you don’t have a choice in your work environment or office setting.
You might have a noisy coworker, or sit under the air conditioner, which could impact your
productivity. Working from home enables everyone to set up their optimal home office or
workstation.
You can choose a standing desk over a sitting one and select your choice of office furniture.
Working from home enables you to understand your optimal work environment, whatever it may
be.
1. Financial Costs: The differences from working from home versus working at an office can be
seen when it comes to finances — and we’re not talking about how much money you earn.
When working at an office, you pay for the costs of commuting, such as public transit, gas, or
maintenance expenses. If you’re driving, you might also have to pay for parking. You likely also
pick up a coffee or buy lunch during the day. All of these expenses add up.
When you work from home, there are tons of financial perks. You don’t have to worry about
sitting in traffic, commuting expenses, and you won’t be tempted to go out after work and spend
money on happy hours and eating out.
Working from home has its own costs. In addition to broadband internet costs, employees need
to think about their energy costs like electricity. They may also carry “startup” costs
for telecommuting technology typically burdened by employers. Typical work-at-home expenses

include desks, chairs, network routers, and monitors. While you save in some ways, there are
other types of costs to think through.
2. Productivity: A study conducted by UC Irvine found that a typical office worker
is interrupted every 11 minutes. If that wasn’t bad enough, it takes 25 minutes to get back on
task. Yikes.
That’s a big hit to employee productivity. The nature of working remotely doesn’t make it
inviting to chat with coworkers. Needless to say, productivity can get a huge uptick with remote
workers. For example, call center employees that work from home were able to boost their
productivity by 13%, according to a Stanford study. Consistent research has shown that remote
workers log longer hours than their office-bound counterparts. Studies show that its clear there is
increased productivity in working at home versus working in an office. However, there can be a
learning curve on how to increase your productivity and reduce distractions at home.
3. Management: Many organizations have had to switch to remote work for the very first time.
Managers are likely concerned because they’ve never had to manage a remote workforce.
When working from an office, managers have a clear view of what team members are working
on. They can go up and ask questions, have daily check-ins, and have white boarding meetings to
make sure everything is on track.
That’s not the case when it comes to working remotely. This is why having the right tools is
critical to remote work success. We leverage a combination of great leadership and powerful
tools like Asana to knock out big projects.
As a manager, you might have the desire to micromanage employees as they go remote. Instead,
we suggest trusting people to perform until they prove otherwise. Employees want to do well;
it’s your job to help them get there.

Chapter-4: Findings, Recommendations and Conclusion
Findings:
1. There are some merits and demerits on the both sides of Working from Home and Full Time
Employment.
2. In this type of Pandemic situation Working from Home is more suitable than physically
present in the office.
3. In the home there must be available opportunity to work and suitable environment to work.
4. Children can disturb and harm Home working environment.
5. All jobs are not need physical existence.
6. Full time employment reduces loneliness.
7. Working from Home saves transportation expenses and times too.
8. Some works have no alternative than physical existence as like as factorial work or industrial
work.
Recommendations:
1. Working from home is so valuable for distant and woman, city like Dhaka.
2. Enough technical support and environment can bring productive success by working from
home.
3. Some organization don’t need large space and maintenance cost by giving recruiting Working
from Home employee conditions.
4. But Working from home can be done this type of pandemic condition, otherwise those who
work 8-10 hours at a stress. They need to work in an office physically.
5. Working from home can be very useful for part time employee.

Conclusion:
Flexible work arrangements not only benefit the employee but the employer as well. Work from
home (WFH), and telecommuting can truly enhance productivity, happiness, reduce employee
attrition, and decrease the businesses’ overall operating costs. In this situation like Pandemic of
Covid-19, we need alternative way than the previous and its obvious working from Home. Now
we are feeling that every job doesn’t need to physical existence. Almost 50-60% job can be done
from home. And also today’s students are participating online classes and they are involving in
exam too. So today world changed its systematic rules and bring a new era of job sector as well
as communicating sector.
In Bangladesh, we have also seen all the govt. and private office was closed due to this pandemic
situation but it opened with some restrictions and rules. Some offices and universities are doing
their tasks by sing online media like zoom, google meet etc.
We have also seen our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has participated several meeting by using
technology. So we have to learn from our highest authority that virtual office or meeting can be
same productive as physical.

It is the best way to do the official task from home as well as now we are learning that all type of employees don’t need to go to office throughout the week or month. It is possible to do some works in home and we can get the more productive result from it. In 1st part I discussed about the Working from Home (WFT), its benefit and disadvantages too. In 2nd part, I discussed about the Full time employment, advantages and disadvantages of full time employment. In the 3rd part, I discussed about the difference between Working from Home vs Full time Employment. On the 4th and final Part, Findings, Recommendation, Conclusions and References are added.

  • 7. 1 Chapter-1: Working from Home Working from Home (WFH): The abbreviation WFH (Working from Home) can be found in the early 2000s on such places as Usenet newsgroups. WFH can be found widely used on Twitter in 2006, the year the platform launch, suggesting the abbreviation was already well-established in digital communication by this time. It is a work arrangement in which employees do not commute or travel (e.g. by bus, bicycle or car, etc.) to a central place of work, such as an office building, warehouse, or store. WFH came into prominence in the 1970s to describe work-related substitutions of telecommunication and related information technologies for travel. Teleworkers in the 21st century often use mobile telecommunications technology such as a Wi-Fi-equipped laptop or tablet computers and smartphones to work from coffee shops; others may use a desktop computer and a landline phone at their home. According to a Reuters poll, approximately "one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day. In the 2000s, annual leave or vacation in some organizations was seen as absence from the workplace rather than ceasing work, and some office employees used telework to continue to check work e-mails while on vacation. Along with this, WFH may make it easier for workers to balance their work responsibilities with their personal life and family roles (e.g., caring for children or elderly parents). Some organizations adopt WFH for environmental reasons, as WFH can reduce congestion and air pollution, with fewer cars on the roads. If you’re going to be Working From Home, you need to put systems in place to be successful— things like a dedicated home office space (don’t even think about regularly working from your bed or your couch), a defined work schedule (no matter how flexible your schedule is, you need to plan ahead and know when you’re going to work), and clear boundaries (friends and family need to know when you’re working and respect your time and space). Once these systems are established, your home can become an ideal workplace even while juggling domestic tasks. In early 2019, interest in WFH spiked during the coronavirus outbreak. That’s because many employers and organizations enacted WFH policies to help stop the spread of the disease by “moving online,” meaning conducting their business at their places of residence over the internet.

Policy Brief and Purpose: Mention clearly what the intent of your work from home policy is, and what you are aiming to achieve by providing job opportunities from home. 2. Scope and eligibility: Specify which positions are available for remote work within the organization considering client-facing responsibilities, software limitations, and cybersecurity risks. It will help in reducing excessive or unnecessary work from home requests. Also, clarify who will accept work-from-home applications, and on what basis each application will be assessed. Will HR supervise the process, or will the individual manager review it? However, they should consider the following elements before deciding 'who' can work from home: I) Does the nature of the employee's job allow them to work from home? II) Are there any security or privacy issues? III) Do they have the required software or equipment installed at home? IV) What are the conditions in the employee's place of work? Apart from these, the work from home policy should also mention 'when' the employees can work from home. Generally, they can work from home: I) On certain occasions. II) Full time. III) Every day, by dividing their time between being at the physical workplace and their remote workstation. 3. The request process: The entire procedure of requesting work from home should be laid out clearly- should employees make a formal request, or do they need to register themselves or have a discussion with their manager? Provide a gradual rundown of what they need to do to have the right to work from home. 4. Attendance and Availability Standards: The availability expectations of the remote workers must be outlined in work from home policy. It can be a challenge to bring your people to the desk and get their input right on time. To avoid this problem, you must set standards around when and how your remote workers should be available. 5. Productivity measures: The policy should also specify how remote workers' productivity will be measured. It can evaluate in a variety of ways, like depending on the time spent on the project, number of cases handled, amount of customer interactions, and more.

If the company expects them to use their own laptops, for example, it must be mentioned in the policy. It should also outline what they are supposed to do when having technical difficulties have an action plan for that as well. 7. Response measures: The policy should define whether or not the remote workers are expected to respond to the manager or a colleague immediately. Also, it should streamline the communication channels, promoting a healthy bonding between workers and supervisors. 8. Compensation and Benefits: If working from home has any effect on the compensation and benefits of the employees, the policy should mention it. 9. Rightful Termination: Many employers feel uncomfortable providing the work from home opportunities because of the lack of face to face communications. However, the work from home policy should contain the fact that no employee will be fired on the grounds of operating remotely. 10. Dress code: While working from home, employees still have to be in touch with colleagues, clients, or business partners via Video conferencing. For this condition, a note about the suitable dress code while home working is reasonable. 11. Physical environment: If you, as an employer, prefer your remote workers to work on a particular physical environment, don't forget to put in the policy. Many companies tend to test and approve the same before working remotely. 12. Security: All the specific requests regarding official security and client confidentiality must be stated in the policy. For example, if you don't want your remote worker to use a public Wi-Fi, then that should be mentioned for employees to be cautious while working from a public place. Benefits of a Work from Home Policy and Reasons Why We Need It Right Now: 1. Flexible Work Schedule: A work from home policy allows you to adjust the days and hours of work. Employees feel no rush, take breaks anytime they want and can manage a perfect work- life balance. This factor plays a significant role in the lives of parents who have young kids. It’s the best way to balance your family’s need for your income with your necessities to spend time with them. 2. Increased Productivity: If you think that the coronavirus will affect your productivity and business, you are probably wrong. This past survey result will surely amaze you. Airtasker, a gig economy platform, surveyed 1004 full-time employees about their daily productivity. It found that office workers reported staying idle for about 37 minutes a day, excluding lunch and regular breaks. Whereas, employees who work from home are more productive, who spend only 27 minutes per day being unproductive?

Like say, they can keep the room temperature as they like, some might like the music playing while others might want to work sitting in the garden. Such advantages are endless in work from home policy. 3. No More Crowds and Traffic: Peak hour traffic congestion is the biggest challenge that employees face every day. Indeed work from home is the only practical solution to deal with it. It also gets cheaper as you don’t have to worry about your travel expenses anymore. 4. Reduced Stress Level: When you work from home, there are hardly any office distractions. There is no annoying co-workers, no office politics, and no mental pressure. Under this condition, you are free to be as creative as you can become. Also, you can customize your own workplace setup. One study found that just adding plants to your workplace could reduce work stress and negative feelings by 30-60 per cent. 5. Healthier Body: Work from home allows you to save some extra time each day. That’s when you can start taking some extra care for your health. You can catch some extra sleep or spend them on physical activities or meditations. By sitting less, you can get a better posture and avoid back pain. You will also prevent the junks from your office canteen and start cooking healthy lunch! All these will lead you to a better physical and mental health which will also improve your daily life. 6. Meaningful Goal Setting: Working from home is often subjected to distractions and it becomes difficult to set boundaries between personal and professional lives. Therefore, it is extremely important to set meaning goals for employees to ensure effective utilization of time. Layout of a new structure of goals, keeping in mind about the new setting. Set clear deliverables and specific metrics that will enable you to track outcomes and measure results effectively. Conduct virtual meetings from time to time to take updates and ensure that things are on track. 7. Rewards & Recognition: Employee recognition is a proven way to motivate and engage employees. But when teams are fragmented, recognition tends to become slower and infrequent. This is probably the best time to switch to a digital R&R platform. Modern offices are generally equipped with state-of-art technologies but when your people are not working from office this can become a challenge. It becomes a massive hurdle in their productivity. You must look into these crucial aspects and provide employees with equipment’s that they can carry home. If buying laptops in bulk is not feasible at the moment, make sure offer them financial assistance like bearing broadband costs. So there is a chance to lose the will power by working in home. 2. Sticking to a routine: What makes a routine a routine is you sticking to it. The obvious, well known routine tactics are mandatory. But sometimes it is not possible. 3. Missing important calls: In home it’s may happen to miss important call for involving others family works as like as cooking, taking care to family members etc.

Boredom: By working in home and doing same task again and again can make one’s boring. And also there is no coffee shop to refresh the mind or colleagues for gossiping. 6. Working Slowly: In the office it’s easy to work fast by using a protocol but sometimes in home it’s not possible to work fast in home. 7. No second monitor: There is no second monitor in house, it there is an electrical problem or programming problem then the work can be continued thoroughly. 8. Iffy Wi-Fi: The speed of Wi-Fi can be very slow and there may be not be sufficient facilities for high speed Wi-Fi. That can hamper the working environment. 9. Waiting for answer: Sometimes it’s taught to get the answer or right order on right time from home. There may be some misunderstanding and miscommunication.   • 15. 9 Chapter-2: Full Time Employment Full time employment: Full time employment is employment in which a person works a minimum number of hours defined as such by their employer. Full-time employment often comes with benefits that are not typically offered to part-time, temporary, or flexible workers, such as annual leave, sick leave, and health insurance. Part-time jobs are mistakenly thought by some to not be careers. Full-time status varies between companies and is often based on the shift the employee must work during each work week. The "standard" work week consists of five eight-hour days, commonly served between 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM or 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM totaling 40 hours. While a four-day week generally consists of four ten-hour days, it may also consist of as little as nine hours for a total of a 36-hour work week. Twelve-hour shifts are often three days per week, unless the company has the intention of paying out the employee overtime. Overtime is legally paid out anytime an employee works more than 40 hours per week. The legal minimum for overtime starts at Base Pay + One-Half. The increased payout is considered to compensate slightly for the increased fatigue which a person experiences on such long shifts. Shifts can also be very irregular, as in retail, but are still full-time if the required number of hours is reached. There are some situations where a person who needs full-time work is dropped to part-time, which is sometimes a form of constructive dismissal to avoid paying unemployment benefits to a laid-off worker. A long-term, full-time job can be both beneficial and detrimental. It can give you a sense of safety and provide opportunities to advance in an organization, but it can also stop growth, prevent you from learning new skills or experiencing new trades in the workforce; which is one of the reasons why people are changing jobs more than ever before. Rather, it's expected for millennial workers to have multiple positions under their belt which can come in the form of various freelance and part-time jobs. To get a clearer picture of full-time employment, we've covered both the benefits and disadvantages below. The advantages of Full Time Employment 1. Holiday and sick pay: If you are a full-time employee, you will receive more annual leave and sick days than part-timers, as paid time off is usually calculated based on the number of total hours employed. By having more days off you can plan for holidays, short-breaks and can take time out when you're sick without feeling too guilty. 2. Job advancement is easier: No one can guarantee that you will be offered a promotion, but you have more chances of qualifying for any advancement opportunities than part-time or temporary workers. Another positive of being a permanent employee is that the company views you as a long term investment, and they will be more inclined to invest in your development and help you advance the career ladder. And if you don’t get offered a promotion, you will - at least - have a secure job and continue to receive pay increases. 3. Companies offer insurance benefits: Most people would say that one of the best advantages of a 9-5 job is company-subsidized or company-paid insurance benefits. These insurance policies include things such as health, life, disability or even accidental death with many companies

You have a fixed schedule: As a full-time employee, you will have a fixed schedule with specific working hours. This means that you will be able to plan the rest of your day accordingly without being unsure of your work schedule. No one will call you to change your working hours at the last minute or swap shifts. Some people would call this monotonous, but if you want some stability in your professional life, full-time employment can offer you this. 5. A fixed salary: Your employer will provide you with a fixed salary on a weekly or monthly basis. All you have to do is complete your job duties and meet your daily or weekly quotas, be a good employee and at the end of the month, you will get paid a specific amount of money. This way you can plan and pay all your expenses, put money aside for other long-term investments and feel safe that, no matter what, you will have money in your pocket for at least one more month. The disadvantages of full time employment 1. You become stagnant: Sticking with one employer can result in career stagnation. You become comfortable with the pay, the amount of work given, and the workplace environment. You’re just happy to have a job. You don’t even consider thinking about any other careers. At the same time, you may become robotic in the same routine. A long-term boss may give you the same daily demands making it an easy schedule to follow. But, you might find yourself constantly fulfilling the needs of your employer and that’s it. This can hold you back from realizing talents and gifts you never knew you had.
  • 18. 12 2. Realizing your true potential is hard: While we’re on the subject of unknown talent, a 9-to-5 job can make you feel like you’re working inside a box. You go to work day-in and day-out without asking any questions about other people's duties and remain confined to your tasks and your cubicle. Believing whatever your employer says to you blinds you to other passions you may have. Your curiosity to know what else is available to you in the outside world is taken away from you. All that is common to you is the job you are doing, meaning that your true potential will never be reached. 3. Buying and selling services become blurred: When you work under someone, you are obviously selling a service that the employer is buying from you. Without any hesitation, you fulfil tasks and assignments that are given to you. These projects, more than likely, have no worth to you as a professional person, but they do for your boss. In addition, you aren't investing your efforts in projects that have no personal value, but rather do your job to receive a pay cheque at the end of the month. There is no clear reason as to why you completed certain tasks other than you were told to - or else it could have jeopardized your career. 4. Your CV is boring and lacks various experiences: Having the same job for many years can negatively affect your CV. As mentioned before, companies sometimes look for an array of experiences when considering a potential candidate. Since you’ve been working for the same employer for X amount of years, your CV becomes dull and dry, lacking versatility in skills and services. A boring CV may get you overlooked by competition that has varied experience in their career history. Meanwhile, the key to having a top-tier CV and cover letter is opening yourself up to other occupations, whether they end up being similar or completely off-center from your profession of choice. 5. Job hunting becomes difficult: Full-time work can make it hard for you to get back in the groove of job hunting. If you haven’t looked for a job for a long time, you may not know where to begin. As mentioned before, becoming too content with where you are could lead to disaster; especially if you find yourself laid off or fired from your job. Also, your employer may be a person who tries to hold you hostage. They may give you bonuses or rewards as a way to keep you satisfied with the job. If you’re anxious to see what else is out there, then don’t let your current job prevent you from expanding your horizons. Full-time employment is not for everyone. Depending on your needs and current situation, it may harm you or benefit you in many ways. This is why many folks who work remotely still opt to go to a coffee shop or a co- working space. The bottom line is people hate commuting. Work-life balance continues to surge on the importance meter for modern-day employees. Companies that don’t recognize this are missing a huge opportunity to adopt work from home strategies that benefit their workforce. A poll posted by CEO of Product Hunt, Ryan Hoover, suggests that most people would take a pay cut if it gave them the ability to work remotely. Not counting video conferencing, face-to-face communication is something you really only get in an office space. It’s not only beneficial when planning for business, but it strengthens relationships and rapport with other employees. There’s something about relationship-building that happens when you sit next to someone or bump into each other at the coffee machine. Communication still happens when you’re working remotely — it’s just different. Face-to-face communication turns into video calls. Short conversations turn into Slack messages. Emails … well, those stay emails. Nobody escapes those! One compelling advantage of working from home is the ability to work anywhere. You don’t even need a laptop. With a full-featured business phone app, employees can make and receive calls, attend conference calls, message colleagues, and stay online using their iPhone or Android. Your alarm goes off at the same time every day, you grab your morning coffee at 7:05 am, and you’re at your desk by 9 am ready to work. When it comes to working from home, it’s a little different. You now have the flexibility to wake up when you choose and tailor your day to your needs. If your company is new to remote work, chances are they still want all employees working the traditional work hours of 9-to-5. With remote work, you can now wake up (a little) later, pick a time for lunch, and close your laptop when you want — for some, that’s 4 pm, others it could be 7 pm. As more companies adopt a remote-first policy, working hours will shift to fit the employee’s schedule. This shift means more flexibility on when you start and end your day and where you work from. You should be able to work from anywhere that has a solid internet connection!

Office Environment vs. Home Environment Do you work from a cubicle? An open office plan? When working at the office, you don’t have a choice in your work environment or office setting. Financial Costs: The differences from working from home versus working at an office can be seen when it comes to finances — and we’re not talking about how much money you earn. When working at an office, you pay for the costs of commuting, such as public transit, gas, or maintenance expenses. If you’re driving, you might also have to pay for parking. You likely also pick up a coffee or buy lunch during the day. All of these expenses add up. When you work from home, there are tons of financial perks. You don’t have to worry about sitting in traffic, commuting expenses, and you won’t be tempted to go out after work and spend money on happy hours and eating out. Working from home has its own costs. In addition to broadband internet costs, employees need to think about their energy costs like electricity. That’s a big hit to employee productivity. The nature of working remotely doesn’t make it inviting to chat with coworkers. Needless to say, productivity can get a huge uptick with remote workers. For example, call center employees that work from home were able to boost their productivity by 13%, according to a Stanford study. Consistent research has shown that remote workers log longer hours than their office-bound counterparts. Studies show that its clear there is increased productivity in working at home versus working in an office. However, there can be a learning curve on how to increase your productivity and reduce distractions at home. 3. Management: Many organizations have had to switch to remote work for the very first time. Managers are likely concerned because they’ve never had to manage a remote workforce. When working from an office, managers have a clear view of what team members are working on. They can go up and ask questions, have daily check-ins, and have white boarding meetings to make sure everything is on track. That’s not the case when it comes to working remotely. Full time employment reduces loneliness. 7. Working from Home saves transportation expenses and times too. 8. Some works have no alternative than physical existence as like as factorial work or industrial work. Recommendations: 1. Working from home is so valuable for distant and woman, city like Dhaka. 2. Enough technical support and environment can bring productive success by working from home. 3. Some organization don’t need large space and maintenance cost by giving recruiting Working from Home employee conditions. 4. But Working from home can be done this type of pandemic condition, otherwise those who work 8-10 hours at a stress. They need to work in an office physically. 5. Working from home can be very useful for part time employee.

Work from home (WFH), and telecommuting can truly enhance productivity, happiness, reduce employee attrition, and decrease the businesses’ overall operating costs. In this situation like Pandemic of Covid-19, we need alternative way than the previous and its obvious working from Home. Now we are feeling that every job doesn’t need to physical existence. Almost 50-60% job can be done from home. And also today’s students are participating online classes and they are involving in exam too. So today world changed its systematic rules and bring a new era of job sector as well as communicating sector. In Bangladesh, we have also seen all the govt. and private office was closed due to this pandemic situation but it opened with some restrictions and rules. Some offices and universities are doing their tasks by sing online media like zoom, google meet etc. We have also seen our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has participated several meeting by using technology. So we have to learn from our highest authority that virtual office or meeting can be same productive as physical.
