2. Density of information
In both the channel 5 Dallas ident and the ITV 2 city ident they both have the same
amount of detail in the voice overs only difference is that in the Dallas ident it only
goes on to describe what's going on in Dallas but in the ITV 2 city ident it describes
what the next show is that’s coming up and what is coming up after that show.
The music in both idents couldn’t be anymore different in Dallas it uses the theme
song from the show to showcase it as the thing to watch, ITV 2 instead has a jazzy
pop kind of sound to go with the bright lights and the huge city.
The logo’s only show up near the end of each of the idents reason for this is that
both channels 5 and ITV 2 are easily recognised and don’t need constant
recognition for the channel.
Camera movement in both animation is hard to explain as they are both
animations, in the ITV 2 ident you could say it zooms out to show more of the bight
and colourful city, while in the Dallas ident it kind of zooms from one skyscraper to
another etc.
3. Space and time
The ITV2 city ident is around 24 seconds while the Dallas channel 5 ident is only
around 18 seconds long, I would consider a long ident around 25-30 seconds while
a short ident would be around 10-20 seconds.
In the ITV2 ident it’s quite complex and has a lot of animation going on which can
maybe distract the viewer as the camera moves around and zooms out. While in
the Dallas Ident it’s not that complex at all and only involves moving the camera
the zoom to each skyscraper which lasts around 3 seconds on each zoom.
4. Screen Tempo
In the FX casino ident there is a number of 5 cuts that the ident makes, the ident is around
17 minutes long. The Tempo of the ident remains very much the same throughout.

5. Interaction with viewers
In the Dallas ident the voice over is telling the viewer to get ready to watch Dallas
on channel 5 and talking to them as if they are directly in the room, this can greatly
make the viewer feel extremely welcome to the channel . While on the ITV2 city
Ident the voice over does not engage the viewer what so ever and only describes
what shows are coming up next. On the viva Christmas ident again it seems like its
directly talking to the viewer but what this channel does well is it talks to the
viewer like there a mate to fit in with the channels hip and trendy style using lines
such as “Go on turn up your TV and annoy the neighbours.
6. Entertainment-led
The VIVA Christmas Ident focus’s on trying to be as entertaining as possible to
try and lure in people of a younger age to the channel for Christmas , it doesn’t
just aim at younger people though as when it zooms up on the TV's you see it
trying to show off old family movies, old Christmas rock songs etc.
While the ITV 2 ident has an entertaining bright theme in the background the
voice over that you hear does not pull of an entertaining atmosphere as well as
you would think, most of all she tells you a string of information but does not
go on to make any quick puns or make you feel as welcome and as close as the
VIVA channel does.
7. Information-led
The ITV2 ident is very information led and gets out the information that is needed
when wanting to watch the show you want to watch the information is spoken
very formally and very clearly. This ident also tells you what’s on next and what is
coming on after that, it also gives you the times that the shows will be coming on
at. Which entertainment-led idents will not do as well at.
