2. Effective??
• Are the products represented the same all
the way through?
• Can you tell what genre the film is from the
ancillary texts?
• Is there narrative?
3. Representation of people.
• How are people represented in
‘Forgetting’?
• In our short film gender can be represented quite easily. Males can be seen
as violent and females can be seen as loved up and not seeing the dangers of
what is happening but still wanting to be with a man even though he tries to
kill her.
• However, males can also be represented as caring and loving as Jack
proposes to Aimee and you can see that they have many good times
together.
4. Poster
How it is shown in the poster?
It is shown in the poster by the individual
pictures of them at the top.
Becky’s facial expression shows that she is
scared and vulnerable.
Zak’s facial expression shows hidden
violence.
The middle picture shows the happy times
and therefore shows the representation that
both genders can be happy together and
actually love one another even if the
relationship is not perfect.
5. Uses and
Gratifications
The theory of uses and gratifications discusses how people search for media that will not
only meet a need but enhance knowledge, social interactions and diversion. It assumes that
the audience take an active role in interpreting the media products and see how it fits into
their own lives.
Therefore, people who are studying the uses and gratification theory may use my images on
the poster to see if my media product meets a need or see how people interpret my images
and media products.
6. Review page
The review page doesn’t contain any
pictures that show violence and mystery, it
contains the happy times.
7. Genre
• Can you tell the genre from my main
products and ancillary tasks?
• You can tell from the middle picture on the poster and in the review page it
is more likely to be a romantic film. However, the other images suggest
otherwise, making the audience wonder what the genre actually is.
8. Does the main product and the ancillary
tasks link together?
• My main product and ancillary tasks have a symbiotic relationship, where they
both feed off each other and give off the same message.
• This shows that they are a very effective combination.
9. Narrative
• Is there any narrative??
• Simple answer, yes. On my poster i took snapshots from the film so the
location was the same. When someone looks at the images on the poster
and then the film they will see it is in the same location.
• My main product and ancillary tasks narrate each other. They refer to the
same sequence of promoting the short film ‘Forgetting’.
• I think most posters, review pages and films have narrative otherwise they
would not produce the same message.
