invest. Regulations and high taxes on the rich are encouraging them to move their money elsewhere.
If Obama's administration can't supernaturally fix all of our afflictions, the Republican Candidates

Introduction
In brief, citizens and companies will get a loan from a bank but when the US Government needs a
loan it issues debt by selling Treasury financial instruments to other federal government agencies,
people, companies, state– and local–governments, as well as to such equivalents abroad (Bureau of
the Fiscal Service, 2013). The deficit is the ratio of spending and revenues in one year, but the
national debt or federal debt is the sum of all previous deficits, less whatever sum the federal
government has subsequently repaid. Hence, every annual government deficit due to borrowing is
added to the national (federal) debt. A government surplus can reduce some of the national debt.
Annually, the national debt incurs interest to be paid by the government which is linked to overall
government spending (National Priorities Project, 2016).
This paper will present and discuss the American national debt situation, propose two possible
solutions and finally will endeavor to steer a conclusion as to which solution to follow.

Through the presidency of Barack Obama, the United States was introduced with the Affordable
Care Act (ACA). This act gives the opportunity to individuals and families a greater access to
affordable health insurance options that include medical, dental, vision, and other types of health

Paine uses numerous rhetorical strategies to persuade the American colonists to secede from Great
Britain. Through his use of ethos and logos Paine is able to connect with his audience emotionally
and logically. He also calls on their patriotism and belief in God to commit his audience to his cause.
His work addresses the concerns he has about the oppressive British Empire controlling the
colonies. Paine's article is appropriately titled The American Crisis. Therefore, his audience is the
American colonists. The tone Paine has is highly impassioned. His use of strong embellishing
language helps emphasize the importance of his cause. He capitalizes words such as "freedom"
"tax", "now" and "God" to show that they are key subjects.

In The American Crisis, No. 1, Thomas Paine, a revolutionary writer determined to move Patriots to
action against the British, encouraged, in the midst of the War for Independence, where hope seemed
scarce, hopeless and weary colonists and soldiers to not only persevere, but to flourish during that
trying time. Using various strategies such as intimidation and persuasion, Paine deeply desired to
awaken Patriotism and almost a determined anger in the colonists through his essay. Paine,
throughout the text, used various tones that differed from person to person; for example, when
writing about the British, Paine adopted a derogatory tone but continued to maintain a persuasive
and inspirational tone whilst addressing the colonists. Beginning with a powerful and almost blunt
introduction paragraph, Paine approached the matter of soldiers and colonists losing hope with a
message of encouragement, but also rebuke. Using certain phrases that had a scolding connotation,
such as "the summer soldier and sunshine patriot...shrink", Paine emphasized the cowardice of
soldiers abandoning their posts and also hope, but Paine's ultimate purpose was not to condemn
others into more hopelessness or shame, as shown by his skillful transition to words of

difficulty of the war, but stated that the "harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph." Paine

Abstract
The question of self–identity has been commonly argued in field of the African American literature;
with scholars such as Martin R. Delany and W.E.B Du Bois argue about the emphasis on race and
racial consciousness. Together Du Bois and Delaney stress the importance of the color line, or the
racial segregation in the United States, as a critical part of American history; nonetheless they both
had completely dissimilar thoughts on the subject. Du Bois placed more emphasizes on double
consciousness. He was concerned that African Americans put superiority of one part of their
heritage over the other. On the other hand, Delaney argues that the major problem with identity is
the separation and how it was derived from slavery. However, these arguments have not effectively
addressed the issue of defining one's identity. My paper addresses the issue of successfully
identifying what we consider 'African Americans' with special attention to why there was once only
Black and White with no shades of gray in America. Specifically, in my argument, I will be
examining the monolithic labels, e.g. black, placed on people of African descendants, in order to
show how history has failed to correctly identify 'African Americans.' I will discuss self–identity and

As many adolescent children continue to grow, a majority of them will experience a time period
where they are attempting to figure out who they truly are and what they believe in. During this
time, adolescents can also go through periods of identity crisis and confusion. In the teen comedy,
American Pie, four high school seniors, Jim, Oz, Finch, and Kevin, attempt to lose their virginities
before they all graduate. However, especially for Jim, they all go through struggles when they

Revolutionary War. They had lost New York City to British troops in August, and 11,000 American

Morale is low, and the service contracts of George Washington's troops are about to expire on

Every country's economy is greatly impacted by the beliefs and the attitudes of its citizens;
conversely, the action of the people is affected by the country's economy. In other words, economy
of a nation and character of the citizens are correlated. For instance, in the United States, the
"American Dream" to own a home had a huge influence on the mortgage crisis in 2008. However,
the economy at that time period had been inducing people to buy new home. Likewise, in Greece,
the growing trend of corruption and bribery among the people played a major role in shattering its
economy. As a consequence of the dreadful economy, Greek people are revolting against their
government. While Greece is trying to recover from its devastated state, the overrated American
Dream is still a cause of multiple problems in the US. The tendency to use fulfillment of the dream
as the measure of success among American people is the one of many reason behind the overall

their independence, were in the midst of a conflict with Great Britain. The colonies were suffering
from repeated injuries and usurpations inflicted upon them by the British. As a result of these
inflictions, Thomas Paine and Patrick Henry addressed these injustices, and proved to be very
persuasive through providing reasoning and evidence that moved many colonists to believe that to
reach contentment and peace the colonies had to rid themselves of British rule. Henry and Paine
were successful in swaying their audience, not only because of the rhetorical strategies used, but

Such descriptions of what the British army would push its limits to, such as sending over 200 boats,
possibly frightened the colonists to believe that Great Britain's power was overwhelming (Paine par.
5). It was strategically interwoven into Paine's argument to establish his credibility and inform the
audience that he knew what he was dealing with. The colonists who had not yet sided with the
forces fighting for independence might have begun to question their positions. What else were the
British capable of doing if they won the war? Would it not be better to fight so that the British had a
lesser chance of winning? Paine's intentions, through providing his account, were to arouse the
public to action and trigger men to enlist. Henry, on the other hand, does not use his own experience,
but make many logical arguments, and he points out many things that could cause a colonist to
finally open his or her eyes and see the situation for what it really was. Henry used process analysis
when he came up with the conclusion: "They are meant for us; they can be meant for no other"
(Henry 232). He is clearly providing a reason for why there had been such an enormous
accumulation of British soldiers and ships. Henry also utilized many interrogative and exclamatory
sentences, as did Paine. Paine's most notable example is when he outrightly slandered the Tories,
"And what is a Tory? Good God! [W]hat is he? [...] Every Tory is a coward; for servile, slavish,
self–interested
