The title has a very deep meaning behind it. We think of lambs as soft, fragile creatures that need to
be protected. We don't like to picture them crying on their way to the slaughterhouse. In a way that
reflects Clarice. Deep inside I believe Clarice is scared, and she doesn't know what to say or do even
when she's being led to her slaughter. As well Clarice still hears "the screaming of the lambs,"
because she believes they won't go away until she can save the victims. I understood most of the
film, however after Hannibal attacks the guards he doesn't escape quickly, he takes his time. It
seems as though he gets lost in the music and is brought back to reality when he hears Sergeant

Clarice Starling, she is assigned to help find a missing woman who has been kidnapped by a
psychopathic serial killer who has been skinning his victims. Clarice tries to gain more insight into

Silence of the Lambs: Eating Other Movies with Fava Beans and a Nice Chianti
Silence of the Lambs is viewed as one of the greatest horror–thriller films, as it has won Academy
Awards in all the top five categories: Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, and
Adapted Screenplay. Some of the people in our ART 105 class might not even want to see this
movie due to its realism of such a dark and painful story, as well as some of the graphic material
shown. This movie, however, is one of the best horror films of the century, in my humble opinion. I
enjoy this movie thoroughly and often watch it in my spare time, so I have plenty of opinions on
every aspect of this movie.
During this entire movie, all the main characters, to me, were all very interesting, as the two(ish)
antagonists are, to this day, traumatizing those who see them without having seen the movie. Clarice
Starling (Jodie Foster), the protagonist, is a very hard worker who is blunt and concerned more

matter how much someone appears to be your friend, you can never be absolutely sure.

Silence of the Lambs focuses on two main characters with problematic mental disorders: Hannibal

remorse for others, which is vividly seen in Hannibal Lector's scenes throughout the movie. For
example, after Lector has killed the police officers in his cell, he stands around, swaying as music
plays, content with what he has just done, instead of feeling bad or guilty about the murders. In
Buffalo Bill's home, the senator's daughter is seen trapped a well–like structure, screaming for help.
Meanwhile, Buffalo Bill acts oblivious to her suffering and is not affected or remorseful about it.

Unlike a lot of viewers, I first saw The Silence of the Lambs at five years old. So, for me, The
Silence of the Lambs is a childhood favorite. Some would say I had an unusual childhood, in this
age where some people actually avoid R–rated movies like the plague. The fact that I saw
Something Wild, which Jonathan Demme directed five years before The Silence of the Lambs, as
well as the original Alien (alone at that), at the same age probably indicates that they were okay with

Instead he focuses on the characters, and I'd be lying if I said he didn't flesh them out very, very,

The Silence of the Lambs is relentlessly thrilling and it holds me to my seat until the last frame
every time I see it, all without relying on excessive gore.
I've already mentioned that The Silence of the Lambs doesn't scare me, so it may – or may not –

Clarice is obsessed with Hannibal and does not have a healthy relationship with him because she

I believe that Silence of the Lambs was the most suspenseful movie we have watched. There were
many things in the movie that messed with one's mind and made them see or believe things that
weren't there. Camera angles, lighting, and the tone of a character's voice can help add suspense to a
film. Also, the amount of irony that was in the film made the viewer be on their toes the whole time.
The Silence of the Lambs could possibly make one have nightmares or be afraid of certain things
because of the way the film was portrayed.
The setting of a film can play a huge part of adding suspense or creating a mood for the film right
off the bat. When The Silence of the Lambs first started Clarice Starling was running through the
woods in the early morning and it was foggy outside. Also, she was alone and suddenly an officer

In The Silence of the Lambs there was a lot of irony going on. Most of it was dramatic irony. Some
examples of dramatic irony was when Agent Starling went to Buffalo Bill's house thinking she was
at some old lady's house and the rest of her company was in Chicago thinking they were at the right

Dr. Hannibal Lector is diagnosed with antisocial personality disorder. Antisocial personality disorder
is defined as a personality disorder in which the person (usually a man) shows a lack of conscience
for wrongdoing and a lack of respect for the rights of others, in other words, he knows what he's
doing is wrong, he just doesn't care, and he lives by his own set of rules. This is evident throughout

Cinematography has the potential to be so much more than just a means to tell a story. When applied
correctly, cinematography has the capability of being like a work of art hanging in a museum.
Cinematography is also able to give a depth and feeling to a film that would otherwise not be
possible. While all movies must use a camera to merely exist, few professionals have mastered the
skill and artistry that cinematography can become. Two cinematographers that I feel use the camera
as a paint brush and their subjects has a canvas are Michael Ballhaus, known for his work in Martin
Scorsese's Goodfellas, and Tak Fujimoto, known for his work in The Silence of the Lambs. Both
cinematographers utilize the power of various levels of close–ups, medium and long shots, various
camera angles, jib and tracking movements, pan and tilt, and focus – just to name a few. While both
films feature killers, the overall plots are fairly different. Yet, through the masterful use of the
camera, both Ballhaus and Fujimoto are able to keep the viewer full engaged and excited to see what
is to come.

They say it's because The Silence of the Lambs was the first movie of the Hannibal Lecter series to
be aired. But how can we compare based on which one came out first? Although it may be the first,
the events that took place in The Silence of the Lambs theoretically happened after the Red Dragon,
thus making Red Dragon the prequel. The Silence of the Lambs stars Jodie Foster, who plays an
F.B.I agent in pursuit of yet another serial killer, and surprise surprise, seeks the help of Hannibal
Lecter. Sound familiar? Although both plots are practically the same, one slightly outshines the
other. Red Dragon does a good job of focusing on the details. Although Silence was the first film, it
was never mentioned how Hannibal Lecter was put behind bars. Red Dragon takes that focus and
shows us exactly how and whom was able to defeat the unstoppable murderer. There is also a big
difference in character development for the killers in both movies. In Silence, the killer is ruthless,
but we don't get to see how he became that way. However, in Red Dragon, the killer is unrelenting,
but we get to see his back story, and in the end we almost have sympathy for him. Both films are

Fears of Film As a person who does not get frightened easily I find that some aspects of certain
horror movies enables them to be scarier than others. I've found, through my seventeen years of
horror movie experience that whenever a filmmaker decides to place entirely plausible scenarios
into their films, or they play with their audiences irrational psychological fears their film becomes a
masterpiece. Contrarily if there is no plot line, unnecessary gore, and too much sex appeal the movie
becomes boring and unwatchable. I do not often rewatch films, yet I often find myself intrigued by a
particular horror film which goes by the name of The Silence of The Lambs. The reason why this
horror film is so great is because it has nearly no jump scares, and no monster like beings. Instead,
The Silence Of the Lambs artfully engages its audience with the reality of the plot. Throughout the
film the audience is met with two very contrasting characters; Doctor Hannibal Lecter, an
imprisoned cannibal psychiatrist, and Clarice Starling an FBI agent who is haunted by her past.
Clarice Starling must use the help on Hannibal Lecter to catch Buffalo Bill, a serial killer who
abducts women, and mends their skin into body suits for himself. While the search for Buffalo Bill
is happening, Clarice is also fighting an internal battle with her traumatic past, due to her having to
resurface her childhood memories, because Dr.Lecter will only give her information on the Buffalo
