The Electoral College Is The Best Interests Of All The People
The Electoral College has long been controversial, and is subject to both criticism and defense. To
understand why either side is valid we must look at its values and its weaknesses, its pros and cons.
The Electoral College was devised to proportionally dole out the power of selecting our executives
geographically. In doing so the Electoral College gives otherwise marginalized portions of the U.S.
population a voice. Adversely the Electoral College can be seen as an obstruction to democracy and
the will of the people. Whether or not the Electoral College serves the best interests of all the people
in United States is up to debate. This paper functions to reveal what validities either argument may
include.
The Electoral College was founded on the idea that no entity, federal or popular, should have the
power to singularly determine the outcome of electing our country's executive. Founding father
James Madison writes in the Federalist papers about his concern regarding tyrannical factions that
arise in pure democracies. Madison in Federalist Paper No. 10, recognizes a faction as "...a number
of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated
by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the
permanent and aggregate interests of the community." (The Federalist Papers) In order to combat the
"tyranny of the majority" while maintaining a democratic selection process of our

Robert G Simmons Leadership Traits
Robert G. Simmons
Robert G. Simmons is arguably one of the most experienced and intelligent judges Nebraska has
ever had on its Supreme Court. With a diversified portfolio, Simmons earned his position as NE
Chief Justice. Coming from a family built upon hard–work, Robert is a prime example of some of
the better opportunities that awaited western migrants and their families. Robert Simmons'
Midwestern ideals helped him become a hard–working individual who emphasized the fundamental
understanding of efficient government structure, and who also encouraged civic duties, values and
responsibilities under the philosophy of law, religion, and freedom for future generations. He knew
the state well and sought to ensure that it had a say in national ... Show more content on

Many of the students found the reading assignments to be the most enjoyable part of the class. Each
of the books were relatable in some way or another. River City Empire by Orville Menard revealed
to students the untold history of Omaha's political past. The book illustrated parts of Omaha that are
still around today. Students could easily visualize these areas and recognize what has changed
throughout time and what hasn't. The same goes for Willa Cather's novel One of Ours and Friday
Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger. While reading, students were able to compare the stories and put
them into context based on their own past experiences. Unlike River City Empire, One of Ours and
Friday Night Lights depict the small town vibe where time really has stood still. These books proved
to be significant in following class discussions, because frankly some people are still unaware of the
societal realities within their own state. And for those who were never familiar with Nebraska and
Great Plains culture, it was lesson over how the progressive, 21st century ideology really hadn't

Native American Beliefs And Beliefs
Native American Religions and Cultures in the Midwest
[Thesis]
Native American religions in the Midwest shaped the way for their tribes to grow their religions
opened up many opportunities to create alliances but also start wars. The culture that was introduced
by their religions help them and help us understand more about the time and place they were in; The
people of these tribes are still affected dearly by these religions so much that they are still followed
till this day.
[History and Story]
The history and lore of the Sioux tribes religion are quite interesting. They had massive birds called
Thunder birds they came down when there was or right before a storm and would swoop up small
children and animals; Or there was the White Buffalo Woman who gave each tribe a medicine pipe
that allowed the medicine man that was the tribe's head religious figure communicate with spirits for
guidance and to find a small glimpse of the future. These are the things that make the Sioux religion
exotic, but understandable with logical reasons for their beliefs. I'm now going to briefly go over
Sioux history to help the reader understand

Ponca Indian Tribe Research Paper
I chose to research the Ponca Indian Tribe because they started out in the midwest, and currently still
live in Nebraska. The 4 elements I have elected to write about are the social organizations, their
customs and traditions, language, and the forms of government involved with the Ponca Indian
Tribe.
The Ponca tribe started out in Minnesota, and in the early 1700's they were relocated to western
banks of the Missouri River into present day Nebraska. They settled along the Ponca Creek in Knox
County Nebraska located in the northeastern part of the state. The Ponca tribe had a rough road to
finally settling in Nebraska, and Oklahoma. They were moved out by the Sioux Indians in the early
1700's, and faced many hardships. In 1879 the government kicked off the Ponca Indians on their
land, and the US government granted them land in the late 1900's. The tribe's leader was Chief
Standing Bear. He was an inspiration to the Indian people. He began the trial of chief standing bear
when he filed a lawsuit against the US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the traditions is the Ponca cemetery. The cemetery was established in 1880, and many people
from the tribe are still buried there The top of the hill marks where the first repatriation first took
place of their ancestors where they were in museums before they were buried prior to 1880. Their
tribal museum is another piece of history that belongs to the Ponca Indians. The museum has history
archives, a tribal library, community learning center, and culture department offices. In 1994 the
Ponca held their first ever Pow–Wow after the tribes federal reinstatement in 1990. Traditionally,
their Pow–Wow's are a celebration for fall harvests, successful hunts, all births, deaths, weddings of
tribal members over the last year, and a gathering place for other tribes, friends, and relatives to
meet and celebrate. Dancing is one of the main traditions the Ponca Indian people

Case Study: The Prairie Acre
In 1932 at The University of Kansas four women–Agnes Thompson, Amida Stanton, Rose Morgan,
and Hannah Oliver made it their mission to designate an area known to many at KU called the
Prairie Acre, as a space to be protected for future generations. The plot of land that is located on the
southeast corner of campus behind Blake hall is the only vestige of native prairie that has been
untouched by modern landscaping and maintenance techniques. The importance of preserving and
restoring the prairie has been a conversation that has been ongoing for more than 83 years now.
Faculty and alumni worked hard to promote the protection of this plot of land in the 1940's but like
many projects during that time, the focus on preserving the prairie acre took ... Show more content

Not only will supporting and reintroducing native species help to limit and reduce the use of
pesticides, it can also help to reduce the overall cost of maintenance and water use. Once the prairie
has been reestablished it is expected to flourish and with the help and oversight of the parties
involved in the long term maintenance plan will prove to be an overall positive project for everyone.
In order to fulfill the obligations required in a project like this we are seeking financial help from
university Alumni and those who are interested in supporting conservation and preservation on KU
Campus. The intention is that this space will be utilized and enjoyed by anyone who spends time on
campus. It will create community connections that can be shared with students of all ages. Projects
like this are beneficial in this day an age for everyone, we have to make protecting our land a
priority but can only do that with the support of the University and its donors. Please take a look at

The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion
Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of
America during the latter half of the nineteenth century.
The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways.
In the second half of the 1800 's, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on
Western expansion in the United States.
"Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities,
and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in
a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money." ("Railroad"
85) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then came the construction gangs who, working in shifts, graded
(flattened) the land by as much as a hundred miles a stretch. Behind them came the track–laying
crews, each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals.
For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to
$48,000, for mountainous land ("Railroad" 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track
included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and food,
which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had the twin
advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of the East
coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials, except
timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference between
the two companies was their work–forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from immigrant
Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the
Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky
while the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas
110).
While the Easterners were racing through the prairie, the Westerners were stripping foothill forests,

The Process Of International Relations
I. Introduction
Many important decisions rest in the hands of the leaders of the countries of the world. These
decisions determine peace and war, trade agreements, and other highly important choices. So, it is
very important that those whom are elected into office will do what is best for their country. To
understand the process of international relations, we must first understand how these leaders are
elected in the first place. Much of this comes down to mathematical processes, and without these,
voting processes would most likely be very corrupt.
Each country elects its leaders differently, but many run on the same principles. Many countries run
democratically, and rely on the plurality voting system, a method where the candidate that is ranked
first is elected. This method is very popular because it involves a good balance of the people and
their votes and those of an elected group making decisions. One of the countries with the longest–
running democracies is the United States. A country that is simultaneously heralded and criticized
for its system of governing, the United States is a prime example of the plurality voting system in
action.
I decided on this topic because of how interested and invested I am in systems of governing and
politics around the world. My personal belief is that if you are not aware of what is happening in the
world around you, then you are at a grand disadvantage when taking part in your country's political
affairs. I have lived in the United

Nebraska State Budget
Assignment 4.2
Abstract
The State of Nebraska has a biennium budget that is set from 2013 all the way to 2015. Knowing
what is in your budget and how to properly gauge what will be needed for the coming two years in
each department is an important aspect to a successful budget. The person in charge of the budget
for each department needs to know how to properly budget and respond to the needs of the state in
the most fiscal way possible. A budget is only as good as the person who is running it. The Nebraska
State budget is complex, but with the right amount of team work and dedication, it seems to run very
smoothly.
Nebraska State Budget The Nebraska State budget is set on a biennium basis. Since this is the case
the budget will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It gives a broad overview of the total estimated costs of all the areas that are being run in the state.
The appropriations that are shown in the 2012–13 current fiscal year are those adopted by 2011
regular session and were further broken down during the 2011 special session of the 102nd
legislature. The Governor's budget recommendations for FY 2013–14 expect a general fund increase
by four point nine percent over the two year period. By doing this the Governor is exceeding the
minimum reserve requirement of fourteen point eight million for the next biennium. This type of
foreshadowing is what is helping Nebraska to look at the overall big picture and to try and stay
within the state allowable budget as closely as possible. The planning even estimates all the way into
the 2015–17 biennium that would set the future growth at five percent and also leave a General
Fund balance in excess of the minimum reserve requirement (Heineman, 2013).
Revenue Generation, Expenditures, and Services The State of Nebraska does a good job of showing
what the state's budget is being spent on and to which programs the money for the state is going.
When looking at the state's budget there are several items that have been considered for the
biennium. The State of Nebraska sets its recommendations by each functional area that are broken
down into general government, agriculture, environment and natural resources, economic
development, human resources development,

Persuasive Essay On The Electoral College
The 2016 election between Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, and Republican candidate, Donald
J. Trump, was one of the most tense elections in American History. The time leading up to the
election was full of suspense for the citizens of the country. The election ended with Hillary Clinton
winning the popular vote of the country by 2,865,075 votes. Although Clinton won the popular vote,
Trump won the Electoral College. This example in history along with many others, proves that the
Electoral College is inefficient and should be abolished. The Electoral College does not give the
voter enough say in the election, while it only helps decide a majority party for the state. The
Electoral College gives more power to the larger states, causes confusion in the result of a tie, and is
inefficient in today's society.
In 1787 when the Electoral College system was created by the Constitutional Congress, the group
wanted to keep room between the population and the election. It was decided that each state would
get a certain amount of electoral votes based on the population size. In total there are 538 electoral
votes, but a majority of at least 270 votes must be obtained to win the election. Throughout this
essay one will become better educated on the Electoral College and why it does not work for today's
society. From the beginning of the use of the Electoral College it has made the presidential elections
unpredictable. The candidates can win the popular vote by a large majority

Descriptive Essay On A Old Dog
Our previous dog had just died and we had to put him asleep because he was really old and sick. He
had cancer in many spots in his body, he had a massive tumor, and he felt all around miserable. After
his sad death within a few months we decided to get a new dog. My dad wanted a hunting dog so
that narrowed our options of what type of dog that we could get. The dogs we wanted the most were
an Irish setter, English setter, or a German shorthaired pointer which was the type of dog that had
just died. All the English setters either costed way to much or were on the opposite side of the
country. Some of them were even in different countries. All the Irish setter puppy's were too far
away or to much except one breeder had them in Missouri which wasn't to far but we wanted to see
if we could find anything else especially because there were a lot of pointers that were in our price
range.
There was one pointer that we wanted a lot so we decided to meet him at a field with the previous
owner. His name was Willy and he was a pointer that we found on a rescue sight. He was about a
year old and he was already being trained to hunt. After we met him we thought about getting him in
about a week.
It was Saturday and we were going to pick up the new dog the next day. We got a phone call from
the person who was giving him a temporary house. Once my dad got off the phone he said, " I just
got off the phone with the temporary owner and she said she took Willy to work and

The Pros And Cons Of Tobacco-Free Policy

are known to cause cancer in humans. (1). Worldwide, the use of tobacco kills over 7 million people
every year and it costs households and governments more than $ 1.4 trillion through healthcare
expenses and lost productivity. (2) Research conducted by the CDC in 2015 has shown that "tobacco
use is the leading cause of preventable disease and death in the United States, and cigarettes are the
most commonly used tobacco product among U.S. adults" (3). For the sake of saving life, some
universities have banned tobacco use on campus. The University of Nebraska–Lincoln currently
allows smoking provided that the smoker is not within the prohibited areas–10 feet away from some
buildings and 25 feet from other buildings (4). "The university is the only institution in the
University of Nebraska system that does not have a tobacco–free policy. Other Nebraska institutions
of higher education –– including Creighton University, Bellevue University, Clarkson College,
College of Saint Mary, York College and the Nebraska Methodist College –– have adopted smoke–
free campus policies" (5). However, the university has as well adopted a new tobacco–free policy
that is going to save life of many college students. "Effective January 1, 2018, the University of

Warren Buffett's Assassination

as stockbroker and served as a U.S. congressman. His mother, Leila Stahl Buffett, was a
homemaker. Buffett was the second of three children and the only boy. Buffett demonstrated a knack
for financial and business matters early in his childhood. Warren often visited his father's stock
brokerage shop as a child, and chalked in the stock prices on the blackboard in the office. At 11
years old he made his first investment, buying three shares of Cities Service Preferred at $38 per
share. The stock quickly dropped to only $27, but Buffett held on tenaciously until they reached
$40. He sold his shares at a small profit, but regretted the decision when Cities Service shot up to
nearly $200 a share. By the age of 13, Buffett was running his own businesses as a paperboy and

Social Culture Of The Pawnee Tribe
The Pawnee tribe is a Native American tribe that was originated from Nebraska and had very unique
cultural elements. The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social Organizations,
Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the Social Organizations I
will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For Customs and Traditions
I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed. For Language I will discuss
the written and the unwritten language as well as the common language with the other bands. Lastly
I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on their rituals, and their beliefs. I believe that
the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the way they lived. The social organization of the
Pawnee tribe consisted of the social class, and the political organization. The Pawnee tribe was
divided into four main bands – the Chaui or the "Great Band", the Kitkahahki or the"Republican",
the Pirahauerat or the "Tappage" and the Skiri or the "Wolf Pawnee". These four bands made up the
political organization. The Chaui are generally recognized as being the leading band although each
band was autonomous, that is until outside pressures from the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw
the Pawnee drawing closer together. (Legends of America) The Pawnee's social classes were set up
in a series of hierarchical divisions. The highest class consisted of chiefs followed by warriors,

The Autobiography Of Malcolm X
Do something about it. Everyone has problems from struggles in life. Malcolm X told his life story
of how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to
Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically by taking a
stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today's "modern" standards. Using his personal
life experience with racism towards African–Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for
all with a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort
to voice his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more
effective message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and
relatability to establish a dominant impression upon the reader's mind. An example of this tone is
when Malcolm, at a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm
tells Alex that "It has always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I
can to be prepared" (4). The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel
empathy for him, but to appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in.
When Malcolm chooses to state "die by violence" (4) instead of describing what kind of violence or
with more emotion, he gets the reader past the emotional aspect of his belief with this stolid diction

The American Dream
The "American Dream" is an idea which is commonly interpreted as working towards a dream or
aspiration one has until it has been achieved. This idea is so significant in American society because
it encourages people to elevate themselves in society and to aspire to become something great. In
theory, this concept is a great model to live by and to encourage a nation to propel themselves into
their own unique ideas of success. Even if it is difficult and there are many barriers that exist and
have existed, those who have continued to pursue a passion or movement have always seemed to
succeed. American culture is full of real and fictional "Rags to Riches" stories because it is always a
real option and possibility to pursue in American society. Many of the people who have their own
rags to riches stories include Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, and Oprah Winfrey. From any limitation
which anyone has faced, there always has seemed to be someone who has risen up from those
struggles and prejudices in order to fulfil their interpretation of the American Dream. Many people
are able to fulfill the American Dream from many backgrounds, but all had the same ambitions to
pursue ones dream.
A good example which shows that barriers do not define one's ability to pursue their dreams is
Warren Buffett. Buffett was born in the American midwest during the later parts of the Great
Depression in which he was commonly exposed to poverty, and in his early life was poor himself. In
his youth, Buffett

Essay on The Life and Writing of Liza Ward
The Life and Writing of Liza Ward
Liza Ward I imagine wore pearls and a sweet grin; she wrote of abiding emptiness. An image of
neatly trimmed edges in navy blue with long brunette waves of classic beauty, her words echo with
hollow despair and the impossibility of overcoming the past. Answering the phone for this interview,
a high–pitched, girlie voice chirps "Hi, how are you?" with genuine interest. Her novel speaks from
the other side, from the silence of a happy life.
After reading her first novel, Outside Valentine, I expected a measured, soft voice that would stretch
around the ball of emptiness at the center of all that is human, a voice that arcs in stabbing, eloquent
tones, speaking from the beyond of some enlightened ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The novel grew out of her need to "make meaning out of something that was so brutal and
meaningless." Reading factual accounts of the murders wasn't enough for Ward; she needed to write
the story and live the experience to make sense of it all. In her own words, "I had to live it, to write
it. When you're writing a novel, you're so inside the story that you can't step back."
Ward describes truth as "limiting" when trying to really get inside and understand something, "It
didn't seem like I could say what I wanted to say by telling a non–fictional account." The novel is
told from the point of view of three narrators affected by the Starkweather murders. In 1991, Lowell
Bowman's continued inability to cope with his parents' murder is jeopardizing his marriage and
family. In 1962, 14–year–old Susan Hurst is isolated and lonely, abandoned by her manic–
depressive mother and obsessing over Lowell, a victim of the Starkweather murders. In 1958, Caril
Ann Fugate rebels against her parents and the extreme poverty of her life, accepting the love and
devotion of the handsome Charles Starkweather. Many of the details of the story come from fact,
although Ward insists: "when something that really happened inspired me, I put it in, but I never felt
like I had to be grounded in truth."
Interestingly, Ward says that writing the Caril Ann parts of the novel came easiest to her, "which was
really weird, because I mean in essence, she was

Personal Narrative: Sioux County Iowa
Sioux County Iowa isn't so different from any other rural county in the Midwest. We have rich and
poor towns, public and private schools, good and bad police officers, and plenty of rowdy teenagers.
The Midwest however is a very unique place to live. I lived in the country, about ten minutes outside
of Orange City, Iowa. One summer Wednesday night at about 9:00p.m., after I had just gotten back
home from work, I received a text message from my friend Jon, "Get the truck ready. Be at your
house in 10". I sighed. I knew that meant we were up to no good. I'm not sure what really bothered

that we both knew I didn't have any plans. In ten minutes, I somehow managed to get all of my work

expected, brandishing flashlights and tools. He told me that his fiancé, Kaly, was worried about a

We turned our flashlights off, and stood very still. We didn't know if we were about to be face to

Jon began chasing the raccoon with a screwdriver. At this point, I had no idea what to do so I just

The History Of Art In Nebraska And The Great Plains
Art in Nebraska and the Great Plains has been shaped by its diverse groups of inhabitants. Czechs
are one of many groups who added and enhanced artistic endeavors inside Nebraska and the Great
Plains. Czechs have a rich history of artistic pursuits. Famous musicians such as Dvorak and
Smetana, and the country's long theatrical history have shaped Czech individuals. The arts are in
many ways at the heart of Czech culture. Czechs brought this mindset with them into Nebraska and
the Great Plains. Czech immigration, during the 19th and 20th century, contributed to the culture
and arts of Nebraska and the Great Plains as a whole; especially through music, theater, furniture
making, and the Wilber Czech festival. A significant number of Czech ... Show more content on

Kucera states, "Song and music at all times used to accompany man from the cradle to the grave and
were a necessary accompaniment of all important family events." Instruments of note include
bagpipes, violin, clarinet, brass instruments, and accordions. According to Barkan, "Between 1899–
1910... Musicians and actors made up an unusually high percentage (37 percent) of Czech
professionals." Local bands, individuals, and outside traveling artists contributed to the popularity of
Czech music within Nebraska and the Great Plains as a whole.
Czech bands played a significant role in the Great Plains and Nebraska. The Baca Band of
Fayetteville, Texas and the Pekar Band of Damon, Texas found success in the Great Plains.
Similarly, Czech bands are intertwined in the history of Nebraska. For example, The Crete Orchestra
"used to drive to Lincoln back in Governor Butler's day and play at the dances in the capital." In
addition, the Wilber band played for the second inauguration of Governor Butler.
There were several notable individuals who contributed the spread of Czech music in Nebraska, one
of which is Frank Nedela Sr. Nedela Sr. was a well–known and respected musician who lived in

Westward Expansion In America
In the 1800's the federal government was furthering their quest for the fulfillment of their "manifest
destiny"; trying to inhabit the United States from coast to coast. The federal government took
several actions that led to westward expansion. These steps impacted the country and those living in
it in both positive and negative ways. Federal government actions such as the homestead act,
transcontinental railroad, and movement of native Americans to reservations were just some of the
many ways that the actions of the federal government affected U.S. citizens, native Americans, the
economy and many other things. The federal government passed many acts and made several
decisions that led to westward expansion. In 1862, the federal government passed the homestead act.
The Homestead act offered free 160 acres of land to settlers who lived on improved the land for 5
years.(doc 1) Since the land was basically free, this encouraged settlers to emigrate to the west to
start a new life and make a profit. Also in 1862, the government passed the Pacific railroad act. This
allowed the Union Pacific Railroad Company to begin the construction of the transcontinental
railroad and gave them the land and materials needed to do so.(doc 2) These railroads provided a
more efficient way to transport people and supplies to the West and therefore aided Westward
expansion. Similarly, the government's passing of the Dawes Act was in the effort to aid westward
expansion. After Native American

State Medical Malpractice
Creating Change Within Organizations HCS 587
Most hospitals, staff nurse and physicians biggest fear, is being sued for malpractice. As health care
providers, we strive to do right by the patient, always practicing safety first. Medical malpractice,
periodically referred to as medical negligence, it happens when a health care provider violates the
governing standard of care when providing treatment to a patient, the source the patient to suffer an
injury. The United States malpractice system has two objectives: to compensate patients who are
injured through negligence by a healthcare provider and to discourage health care providers from

These laws are passed in every state to have the best interest for all. First provision is that all
practicing physicians must have malpractice insurance. Malpractice insurance is needed as they are
held accountable to pay the first $250,000 to the plaintiff. The limit that the plaintiff can received is
$250,000 per health care provider, a defendant may be more than one health care provider. If you are
for example, filing a law suit against a group of physicians, they each will be responsible for their
portions. When a health care provider (defendant) is held negligent they will just have to pay their
portion. Either way the total limit or cap someone can receive in Indiana is $1,250,00. They also
have in place, a Patient Compensation Fund (PCF). This fund will help with the remainder of what
the plaintiff is awarded, but will not exceed $125,000,00. The PCF will award the plaintiff over the
$250,000 but not more than $125,000,000. Which means Patient Compensation Fund is capped at
$1 million, so it can not exceed $1.25 million
Rational for Selection Indiana was the first state to pass medical malpractice reform legislation in
1975, that shows their initiative to growth the times. Their law has repeatedly endured any
constitutionality challenges. I have to commended a state that has been able to be a head of the

Sacrifice In Bruce Springsteen's Song, Nebraska
Music is something that is needed in everyday life. It fuels creativity, brings people together, and it
even helps people learn. In Bruce Springsteen's song, "Nebraska", it tells the story of Charles
Starkweather, the most notorious killer in Nebraska. Charles Starkweather symbolizes fear for many
people, and will forever haunt not only Nebraska, but the whole world. Lincoln Nebraska seemed
like the perfect place to live. It was a quiet town where everybody seemed to know each other, and
nobody needed to lock their doors at night. It wasn't until December 1, under the cover of darkness,
that everything seemed to change. On that night Charles Starkweather returned to a Lincoln gas
station, robbed the attendant for $100.00, and then led him out a few miles where he proceeded to
shoot him dead. (Spencer). This robbery and murder was just the start of the gruesome spree that
had yet to occur. Almost two months after the killing, with no lead for the case, Starkweather struck
again. Caril Ann Fugate was Starkweather's 14 year old girlfriend, and her parent's didn't like that
fact, so they often got into fights with the 19 year old man. This time, however, Starkweather ended
the fight quickly, killing both Fugate's parents and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

they needed a new car for their escape. They reached Douglas, Wyoming and met Merle Collison,
an older shoe salesman sleeping in his car along the highway. Starkweather began to shoot him,
stopping after another car and police officer pulled up. Starkweather then jumped in the Packard and
sped off, pulling over and surrendering after he got shot in the ear.

The Multicultural Language
In our world today if one were to look into languages they would find that there are around 6,000
languages. So how did all these languages come to be, how come we have so many? Well to answer
that we need to look at some of the most popular languages in the world. Today the majority
language spoken is Chinese followed by Spanish and then English. These languages all came from
another language and then evolved as the world got bigger and grew older. All languages are divided
into a "family." The family is like the main origin of the language. Then that language spreads and
changes up a bit and gets created as a new language. The diffusion of languages is like stated before,
things evolve to adapt to their surroundings, languages shaped up and got either better or worse,
people used the better ones and the worst ones died off, languages that got started in one region may
not even still be in that same region, due to the one word which is changed. Today the popular
language, Chinese can be found spoken by approximately 1,213 million people in China, Taiwan
and Singapore. The second most spoken language, Spanish which has around 329 million speakers
can be found in Spain, Latin America and some in the United States. Lastly the third most spoken
language English which has about 328 million speakers can be found in multiple countries, some of
which include the United States, Australia, New Zealand and the British Isles. Multiculturalism can

Proper Role Of Government Essay
What is the Proper Role of Government? The proper role of government (gov't.) can vary, every
person has their opinion. The government's proper role is to solve universal problems without
causing destruction. This means that the gov't. helps find a solution that is fair and equal for
everyone. For example the government invented bimetallism to solve the problem with money. The
government made changes to the way Native Americans lived so they became more
"Americanized". The government also made the homestead act which helped people move
westward. After the gov't. encouraged American citizens to move westward, they opened the door to
immigrants. The U.S government has made such an impact on the way we live and how people did
live in the old days. The proper role of the gov't. is to find solutions to the problems that humans
cannot solve without having a excessive argument and without violating people's right. The
government has dealt with the problem of backing up money. Bimetallism changed the currency
from coins to paper money. Bimetallism meant that people would exchange gold or silver for
money. One of the biggest concerns people had was that they wanted to make sure that the money
would be backed up by a good source. Backing their money meant that people wouldn't have to deal
with losing money when they would exchange money for gold or silver. People had debated whether
they should back their money by bimetallism or monometallism. Monometalism is when money is

The Plains Indians tribe that I chose to research was the Omaha Tribe. The Omaha Tribe lived near

native to Nebraska. This tribe is still on a reservation in Macy, Nebraska today. This tribe is in
Nebraska because when the Europeans arrived to North America, they drove out the Omaha Tribe
along with many other Plains Indians Tribes. Today, the Omaha Tribe consists of around 6,000
members. The Omaha Tribe was a unique tribe mainly because of what they practiced. The Omaha
Tribe practiced polygamy, which was the practice of one man having multiple spouses. In the
Omaha Tribe, the maximum number of wives that a man could have was three. "Their [the Omaha
Tribe] religion was associated with the practice of medicine, and with their war customs, and with
their gentile systems (https://www.accessgenealogy.com/native/omaha–tribe.htm)." Originally, the
Omaha Tribe commonly lived in bark longhouse villages. However, they then started to become
accustomed more to living in tepees, and that is what they mostly still live in today.
Only men were selected to lead the tribe until 1880. Men from the Omaha Tribe commonly wore
leggings and buckskin shirts with breechcloth. The wore moccasins on their feet. However, in colder
weather, they made long robes out of buffalo hide and wore them in the cold. The shirts were

Reflective Essay On Service
To do service is to help others and to do justice is to serve. With limited service experience and
minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a
professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman
year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the
readings that was discussed in class.
My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the
Freshman Leadership Program. Because this service experience was three years ago I do not
remember all of the details and conversations that I had while doing this service, following is what I
remember of my service experiences. One of the service sites that I went to through this program
was the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. At the club the members of the program were asked to
play with the kids, helped the children make crafts, and teach kids from 12 to 14 years of age about
bullying.
When I think about how I was feeling about this service I did not really understand how I was
helping out the organization or how this was really considered service. I was just walking around
talking to kids who could care less if I was there or not. When I think of who really benefitted from
me going to this service site once a week, my list starts with institutions, Creighton University, the
Freshman Leadership Program, the Boys and Girls Club. Then on a lesser scale

The World Of The New World
Which group of people had the most difficult time being accepted in America and why? When
looking at the migrations of various europeans coming to the new world it becomes clear that not all
groups faced the same level hardships and trouble with integration. While many groups faced
discrimination one group stands out mainly due to the amount of attention that their presence
garnered. I feel that the Irish had the most difficult time for the size of their population when
compared to other european groups. One of the largest waves of migration from the Irish came about
from the potato blight, which had devastated the Irish and caused massive famine. While many

It's apparent that one of the large factors in the discrimination of the Irish was their faith. One of
more damaging aspects of discrimination is the practice of stereotyping, and once again it appears
that the Irish were portrayed in a much worse way than English, German, or French immigrants.
Nativists would lead the charge and paint the newly arrived immigrants as short tempered, old–
fashioned, and drunkards. Examples of political cartoons published during the nineteenth century
depict Irish immigrants as having animalistic features and violent.[3] While many of these people
had come to America with little job skills and hardly no real wealth after the journey and many
employers, influenced by many of these stereotypes, would not the Irish and would even display
signs saying "No Irish Need Apply".[4] The discriminatory practices implemented against
employing certain immigrants hit the Irish hard because groups like the Germans had previously
moved from ghettos into areas like Pennsylvania where they could provide for their own
communities by implementing their own tradesmen and skilled labor. And the French assimilated
fairly well throughout much of the country, so the French stereotypes diminished over time.
Discrimination can take many forms and impact a people in different ways, however with the Irish
much of this discrimination was institutionalized and impacted levels of society in areas like

The Flow of the River, by Loren Eiseley Essay
When reflecting and writing on Eiseley's essay and the "magical element", I balk. I think to myself,
"What magic?", and then put pen to page. I dubiously choose a kiddie pool to draw inspiration from,
and unexpectedly, inspiration flows into me. As I sit here in this little 10x30 foot backyard, the sky
is filled with the flowing gaseous form of water, dark patches of moist earth speckle the yard, the
plants soak up their scattered watering, and the leaves of bushes and trees imbue the space with a
sense of dampness from their foliage. As my senses tune into the moisture that surrounds me, I fill

Of all the ways Eiseley imparts his impressions of water and the manner its magic impregnates the
world, the one not mentioned is the most intriguing to me. The way he was moved to write about
water because of its relationship to his past, is waters definitive magic. The concept of water was the
vehicle that transported his feelings to thoughts, and from thoughts to his narrative. He found
enchantment where others would have just found a mundane substance. He even writes, "...the
enormous mindlessness of space settles down upon the soul." There are others that would contend
that there is more magic in the cosmos than in water, but there is a resonance that is stirred in
Eiseley, by water's magic. When I sit and think about water, these are some sentiments that stream
from me: water, an oasis of cool relief for my throat, when sand dunes and wandering Bedouin
nomads migrate on the desert of my tongue; the last days of elementary school when the tease of a
late spring swim hints at the summer to come, and the time spent slipping the bonds of my corporeal
existence, floating in that ethereal substance; of the cool shade of broad leafed trees drawing water
up to their verdant canopy to their aquatic reservoir, sharing a respite from the unforgiving heat of
an afternoon sun. Water flows through most of my happiest

Election Day After President Of The United States
Election Day is when Americans everywhere get to cast their vote for the next President of the
United States. However, Americans don 't directly vote for President. So, what 's happening on
Election Day then? It is a bit complicated due to a system involving something called the Electoral
College.
The Electoral College is the collection of 538 votes that determine who will be the next President of
the United States of America. The number 538 comes from the number of Representatives, 438, plus
the number Senators, 100, all of which make up Congress. These votes, however, are not given
directly to the citizens; they are divvied up amongst the states. Every state, no matter how populous,
receives a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. The remaining votes are then given out
in proportion to the states ' population (Walenta, 2010).
On Election Day, when citizens go to vote, they are not actually voting for who they want to be the
next President. They are actually only deciding who the electors will be and telling them how they
want them to vote ("Electoralvote.com" ). If a candidate wins the majority of the votes in a state, no
matter how minor, he will obtain all of that state's votes. For example, Florida has 29 votes in the
Electoral College, if one candidate were to receive just 51% of Florida's vote, he would receive all
of the 29 votes, even when 49% of the state did not vote for him.
There are many controversial topics regards the Electoral College and how it

State Library). Warren also built up the state's higher education system based on the University of
California and its vast network of small universities and community colleges. Warren further
supported the Collier–Burns Act in 1947 which, raised gasoline taxes to fund a massive program of
freeway construction. California's gasoline taxes helped to influence the Federal Aid Highway Act
of 1956, which set the scene for highway construction nationwide. Towards the end of his time as
Governor, Warren also stopped enforcing California's anti–miscegenation law after it was declared
unconstitutional in Perez vs Sharp, now allowing marriage between members of different races in
the state of

The Electoral College Is The Best Interests Of All The People

  • 1. The Electoral College Is The Best Interests Of All The People The Electoral College has long been controversial, and is subject to both criticism and defense. To understand why either side is valid we must look at its values and its weaknesses, its pros and cons. The Electoral College was devised to proportionally dole out the power of selecting our executives geographically. In doing so the Electoral College gives otherwise marginalized portions of the U.S. population a voice. Adversely the Electoral College can be seen as an obstruction to democracy and the will of the people. Whether or not the Electoral College serves the best interests of all the people in United States is up to debate. This paper functions to reveal what validities either argument may include. The Electoral College was founded on the idea that no entity, federal or popular, should have the power to singularly determine the outcome of electing our country's executive. Founding father James Madison writes in the Federalist papers about his concern regarding tyrannical factions that arise in pure democracies. Madison in Federalist Paper No. 10, recognizes a faction as "...a number of citizens, whether amounting to a majority or a minority of the whole, who are united and actuated by some common impulse of passion, or of interest, adversed to the rights of other citizens, or to the permanent and aggregate interests of the community." (The Federalist Papers) In order to combat the "tyranny of the majority" while maintaining a democratic selection process of our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With a diversified portfolio, Simmons earned his position as NE Chief Justice. Coming from a family built upon hard–work, Robert is a prime example of some of the better opportunities that awaited western migrants and their families. Robert Simmons' Midwestern ideals helped him become a hard–working individual who emphasized the fundamental understanding of efficient government structure, and who also encouraged civic duties, values and responsibilities under the philosophy of law, religion, and freedom for future generations. He knew the state well and sought to ensure that it had a say in national ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of the students found the reading assignments to be the most enjoyable part of the class. Each of the books were relatable in some way or another. River City Empire by Orville Menard revealed to students the untold history of Omaha's political past. The book illustrated parts of Omaha that are still around today. Students could easily visualize these areas and recognize what has changed throughout time and what hasn't. The same goes for Willa Cather's novel One of Ours and Friday Night Lights by Buzz Bissinger. While reading, students were able to compare the stories and put them into context based on their own past experiences. Unlike River City Empire, One of Ours and Friday Night Lights depict the small town vibe where time really has stood still. These books proved to be significant in following class discussions, because frankly some people are still unaware of the societal realities within their own state. And for those who were never familiar with Nebraska and Great Plains culture, it was lesson over how the progressive, 21st century ideology really hadn't ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Native American Beliefs And Beliefs Native American Religions and Cultures in the Midwest [Thesis] Native American religions in the Midwest shaped the way for their tribes to grow their religions opened up many opportunities to create alliances but also start wars. The culture that was introduced by their religions help them and help us understand more about the time and place they were in; The people of these tribes are still affected dearly by these religions so much that they are still followed till this day. [History and Story] The history and lore of the Sioux tribes religion are quite interesting. They had massive birds called Thunder birds they came down when there was or right before a storm and would swoop up small children and animals; Or there was the White Buffalo Woman who gave each tribe a medicine pipe that allowed the medicine man that was the tribe's head religious figure communicate with spirits for guidance and to find a small glimpse of the future. These are the things that make the Sioux religion exotic, but understandable with logical reasons for their beliefs. I'm now going to briefly go over Sioux history to help the reader understand ... • 7. Ponca Indian Tribe Research Paper I chose to research the Ponca Indian Tribe because they started out in the midwest, and currently still live in Nebraska. The 4 elements I have elected to write about are the social organizations, their customs and traditions, language, and the forms of government involved with the Ponca Indian Tribe. The Ponca tribe started out in Minnesota, and in the early 1700's they were relocated to western banks of the Missouri River into present day Nebraska. They settled along the Ponca Creek in Knox County Nebraska located in the northeastern part of the state. The Ponca tribe had a rough road to finally settling in Nebraska, and Oklahoma. They were moved out by the Sioux Indians in the early 1700's, and faced many hardships. In 1879 the government kicked off the Ponca Indians on their land, and the US government granted them land in the late 1900's. The tribe's leader was Chief Standing Bear. He was an inspiration to the Indian people. He began the trial of chief standing bear when he filed a lawsuit against the US ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Their tribal museum is another piece of history that belongs to the Ponca Indians. The museum has history archives, a tribal library, community learning center, and culture department offices. In 1994 the Ponca held their first ever Pow–Wow after the tribes federal reinstatement in 1990. Traditionally, their Pow–Wow's are a celebration for fall harvests, successful hunts, all births, deaths, weddings of tribal members over the last year, and a gathering place for other tribes, friends, and relatives to meet and celebrate. Case Study: The Prairie Acre In 1932 at The University of Kansas four women–Agnes Thompson, Amida Stanton, Rose Morgan, and Hannah Oliver made it their mission to designate an area known to many at KU called the Prairie Acre, as a space to be protected for future generations. The plot of land that is located on the southeast corner of campus behind Blake hall is the only vestige of native prairie that has been untouched by modern landscaping and maintenance techniques. The importance of preserving and restoring the prairie has been a conversation that has been ongoing for more than 83 years now. Faculty and alumni worked hard to promote the protection of this plot of land in the 1940's but like many projects during that time, the focus on preserving the prairie acre took ... Not only will supporting and reintroducing native species help to limit and reduce the use of pesticides, it can also help to reduce the overall cost of maintenance and water use. Once the prairie has been reestablished it is expected to flourish and with the help and oversight of the parties involved in the long term maintenance plan will prove to be an overall positive project for everyone. In order to fulfill the obligations required in a project like this we are seeking financial help from university Alumni and those who are interested in supporting conservation and preservation on KU Campus. The intention is that this space will be utilized and enjoyed by anyone who spends time on campus. It will create community connections that can be shared with students of all ages. Projects like this are beneficial in this day an age for everyone, we have to make protecting our land a priority but can only do that with the support of the University and its donors. • 11. The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion The Transcontinental Railroad and Westward Expansion Thesis: The transcontinental railroad greatly increased Westward expansion in the United States of America during the latter half of the nineteenth century. The history of the United States has been influenced by England in many ways. In the second half of the 1800 's, the railroad, which was invented in England, had a major effect on Western expansion in the United States. "Railroads were born in England, a country with dense populations, short distances between cities, and large financial resources. In America there were different circumstances, a sparse population in a huge country, large stretches between cities, and only the smallest amounts of money." ("Railroad" 85) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then came the construction gangs who, working in shifts, graded (flattened) the land by as much as a hundred miles a stretch. Behind them came the track–laying crews, each consisting of ten thousand men and as many animals. For each mile of track, the government was loaning the railroad from $16,000, for flat land, to $48,000, for mountainous land ("Railroad" 86). The supplies needed to lay a single mile of track included forty train cars to carry four hundred tons of rail and timber, ties, bridgings, fuel, and food, which all had to be assembled in a depot on the Missouri River. But the Union Pacific had the twin advantages of comparatively flat land and a continuous supply line back to the factories of the East coast. It was quite different for the Central Pacific, which had to fetch most of its materials, except timber, by sea, twelve thousand miles around the tip of South America. Another difference between the two companies was their work–forces. The Eastern work gangs were recruited from immigrant Irish, poor Southern whites, and poor Southern blacks, while the Western crews came mostly from China. The Union Pacific was said to be sustained by whisky while the Central Pacific was said to be sustained by tea (Douglas 110). While the Easterners were racing through the prairie, the Westerners were stripping foothill forests, painfully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Process Of International Relations I. Introduction Many important decisions rest in the hands of the leaders of the countries of the world. These decisions determine peace and war, trade agreements, and other highly important choices. So, it is very important that those whom are elected into office will do what is best for their country. To understand the process of international relations, we must first understand how these leaders are elected in the first place. Much of this comes down to mathematical processes, and without these, voting processes would most likely be very corrupt. Each country elects its leaders differently, but many run on the same principles. Many countries run democratically, and rely on the plurality voting system, a method where the candidate that is ranked first is elected. This method is very popular because it involves a good balance of the people and their votes and those of an elected group making decisions. One of the countries with the longest– running democracies is the United States. A country that is simultaneously heralded and criticized for its system of governing, the United States is a prime example of the plurality voting system in action. I decided on this topic because of how interested and invested I am in systems of governing and politics around the world. My personal belief is that if you are not aware of what is happening in the world around you, then you are at a grand disadvantage when taking part in your country's political affairs. • 18. Nebraska State Budget Assignment 4.2 Abstract The State of Nebraska has a biennium budget that is set from 2013 all the way to 2015. Knowing what is in your budget and how to properly gauge what will be needed for the coming two years in each department is an important aspect to a successful budget. The person in charge of the budget for each department needs to know how to properly budget and respond to the needs of the state in the most fiscal way possible. A budget is only as good as the person who is running it. The Nebraska State budget is complex, but with the right amount of team work and dedication, it seems to run very smoothly. It gives a broad overview of the total estimated costs of all the areas that are being run in the state. The appropriations that are shown in the 2012–13 current fiscal year are those adopted by 2011 regular session and were further broken down during the 2011 special session of the 102nd legislature. The Governor's budget recommendations for FY 2013–14 expect a general fund increase by four point nine percent over the two year period. By doing this the Governor is exceeding the minimum reserve requirement of fourteen point eight million for the next biennium. This type of foreshadowing is what is helping Nebraska to look at the overall big picture and to try and stay within the state allowable budget as closely as possible. The planning even estimates all the way into the 2015–17 biennium that would set the future growth at five percent and also leave a General Fund balance in excess of the minimum reserve requirement (Heineman, 2013). Revenue Generation, Expenditures, and Services The State of Nebraska does a good job of showing what the state's budget is being spent on and to which programs the money for the state is going. • 20. Persuasive Essay On The Electoral College The 2016 election between Democrat candidate, Hillary Clinton, and Republican candidate, Donald J. Trump, was one of the most tense elections in American History. The time leading up to the election was full of suspense for the citizens of the country. The election ended with Hillary Clinton winning the popular vote of the country by 2,865,075 votes. Although Clinton won the popular vote, Trump won the Electoral College. This example in history along with many others, proves that the Electoral College is inefficient and should be abolished. The Electoral College does not give the voter enough say in the election, while it only helps decide a majority party for the state. The Electoral College gives more power to the larger states, causes confusion in the result of a tie, and is inefficient in today's society. In 1787 when the Electoral College system was created by the Constitutional Congress, the group wanted to keep room between the population and the election. It was decided that each state would get a certain amount of electoral votes based on the population size. In total there are 538 electoral votes, but a majority of at least 270 votes must be obtained to win the election. • 22. Descriptive Essay On A Old Dog Our previous dog had just died and we had to put him asleep because he was really old and sick. He had cancer in many spots in his body, he had a massive tumor, and he felt all around miserable. After his sad death within a few months we decided to get a new dog. My dad wanted a hunting dog so that narrowed our options of what type of dog that we could get. The dogs we wanted the most were an Irish setter, English setter, or a German shorthaired pointer which was the type of dog that had just died. All the English setters either costed way to much or were on the opposite side of the country. Some of them were even in different countries. All the Irish setter puppy's were too far away or to much except one breeder had them in Missouri which wasn't to far but we wanted to see if we could find anything else especially because there were a lot of pointers that were in our price range. There was one pointer that we wanted a lot so we decided to meet him at a field with the previous owner. His name was Willy and he was a pointer that we found on a rescue sight. He was about a year old and he was already being trained to hunt. After we met him we thought about getting him in about a week. It was Saturday and we were going to pick up the new dog the next day. We got a phone call from the person who was giving him a temporary house. Once my dad got off the phone he said, " I just got off the phone with the temporary owner and she said she took Willy to work and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His mother, Leila Stahl Buffett, was a homemaker. Buffett was the second of three children and the only boy. Buffett demonstrated a knack for financial and business matters early in his childhood. Warren often visited his father's stock brokerage shop as a child, and chalked in the stock prices on the blackboard in the office. At 11 years old he made his first investment, buying three shares of Cities Service Preferred at $38 per share. The stock quickly dropped to only $27, but Buffett held on tenaciously until they reached $40. He sold his shares at a small profit, but regretted the decision when Cities Service shot up to nearly $200 a share. The cultural elements I chose to go more indepth are Social Organizations, Customs and Traditions, Language, and Religion of the Pawnee tribe. For the Social Organizations I will discuss the social classes, and the political organization of the tribe. For Customs and Traditions I will examine the rules of behavior, as well as the food they consumed. For Language I will discuss the written and the unwritten language as well as the common language with the other bands. Lastly I will talk about the Religion and go into more details on their rituals, and their beliefs. I believe that the longevity of the tribe was directly related to the way they lived. The social organization of the Pawnee tribe consisted of the social class, and the political organization. The Pawnee tribe was divided into four main bands – the Chaui or the "Great Band", the Kitkahahki or the"Republican", the Pirahauerat or the "Tappage" and the Skiri or the "Wolf Pawnee". These four bands made up the political organization. The Chaui are generally recognized as being the leading band although each band was autonomous, that is until outside pressures from the Europeans and neighboring tribes saw the Pawnee drawing closer together. • 32. The Autobiography Of Malcolm X Do something about it. Everyone has problems from struggles in life. Malcolm X told his life story of how he overcame in his autobiography simply called The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley. His life changed the world historically, socially, and especially politically by taking a stand against racism of all kinds which still exists in today's "modern" standards. Using his personal life experience with racism towards African–Americans, Malcolm spreads the word on equality for all with a realistic tone that inspires trust in him. Malcolm X reaches all kinds of people in an effort to voice his thoughts on equality for all using rhetorical and persuasive techniques for a more effective message. From the beginning, the story Malcolm X tells uses a tone of realism and relatability to establish a dominant impression upon the reader's mind. An example of this tone is when Malcolm, at a young age, accepts his ultimate fate that had just befallen his father. Malcolm tells Alex that "It has always been my belief that I, too, will die by violence. I have done all that I can to be prepared" (4). The definitiveness he says this with is not an attempt at making readers feel empathy for him, but to appeal to logic by presenting this as a fact of the kind of world he lives in. When Malcolm chooses to state "die by violence" (4) instead of describing what kind of violence or with more emotion, he gets the reader past the emotional aspect of his belief with this stolid diction ... This idea is so significant in American society because it encourages people to elevate themselves in society and to aspire to become something great. In theory, this concept is a great model to live by and to encourage a nation to propel themselves into their own unique ideas of success. Even if it is difficult and there are many barriers that exist and have existed, those who have continued to pursue a passion or movement have always seemed to succeed. American culture is full of real and fictional "Rags to Riches" stories because it is always a real option and possibility to pursue in American society. Many of the people who have their own rags to riches stories include Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, and Oprah Winfrey. From any limitation which anyone has faced, there always has seemed to be someone who has risen up from those struggles and prejudices in order to fulfil their interpretation of the American Dream. Many people are able to fulfill the American Dream from many backgrounds, but all had the same ambitions to pursue ones dream. A good example which shows that barriers do not define one's ability to pursue their dreams is Warren Buffett. Buffett was born in the American midwest during the later parts of the Great Depression in which he was commonly exposed to poverty, and in his early life was poor himself. In his youth, Buffett ... An image of neatly trimmed edges in navy blue with long brunette waves of classic beauty, her words echo with hollow despair and the impossibility of overcoming the past. Answering the phone for this interview, a high–pitched, girlie voice chirps "Hi, how are you?" with genuine interest. Her novel speaks from the other side, from the silence of a happy life. When you're writing a novel, you're so inside the story that you can't step back." Ward describes truth as "limiting" when trying to really get inside and understand something, "It didn't seem like I could say what I wanted to say by telling a non–fictional account." The novel is told from the point of view of three narrators affected by the Starkweather murders. In 1991, Lowell Bowman's continued inability to cope with his parents' murder is jeopardizing his marriage and family. In 1962, 14–year–old Susan Hurst is isolated and lonely, abandoned by her manic– depressive mother and obsessing over Lowell, a victim of the Starkweather murders. In 1958, Caril Ann Fugate rebels against her parents and the extreme poverty of her life, accepting the love and devotion of the handsome Charles Starkweather. Many of the details of the story come from fact, although Ward insists: "when something that really happened inspired me, I put it in, but I never felt like I had to be grounded in truth." We have rich and poor towns, public and private schools, good and bad police officers, and plenty of rowdy teenagers. The Midwest however is a very unique place to live. I lived in the country, about ten minutes outside of Orange City, Iowa. One summer Wednesday night at about 9:00p.m., after I had just gotten back home from work, I received a text message from my friend Jon, "Get the truck ready. Be at your house in 10". I sighed. I knew that meant we were up to no good. Today the majority language spoken is Chinese followed by Spanish and then English. These languages all came from another language and then evolved as the world got bigger and grew older. All languages are divided into a "family." The family is like the main origin of the language. Then that language spreads and changes up a bit and gets created as a new language. The government's proper role is to solve universal problems without causing destruction. This means that the gov't. helps find a solution that is fair and equal for everyone. For example the government invented bimetallism to solve the problem with money. The government made changes to the way Native Americans lived so they became more "Americanized". The government has dealt with the problem of backing up money. Bimetallism changed the currency from coins to paper money. Bimetallism meant that people would exchange gold or silver for money. At the club the members of the program were asked to play with the kids, helped the children make crafts, and teach kids from 12 to 14 years of age about bullying. When I think about how I was feeling about this service I did not really understand how I was helping out the organization or how this was really considered service. I was just walking around talking to kids who could care less if I was there or not. When I think of who really benefitted from me going to this service site once a week, my list starts with institutions, Creighton University, the Freshman Leadership Program, the Boys and Girls Club. Then on a lesser scale ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Siegfried Hummel Essay N athaniel Jansen, otherwise known as "Siegfried Hummel," was back in his home state of Nebraska for yet another school again with Brenda Brotzman and the enigmatic Nebraskan Dutchman. So far, in the early weeks of the 2014–2015 school years, everything seemed to be business as usual in the Cornhusker State. Whether it was the romancing between him and Brenda, their continued participation in the Jackbooter trade, the precautions they have to make in order to not get caught, and the whole nine yards. But all of that changed on the 10th of October, when Brenda spoke him during their shared lunch period. It was during that point in time, after leaving the cafeteria of their high school, that the two began conversing with each other. "Brenda," Siegfried said to her as they walked to their lockers in the sophomore wing of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Forget what I just said," Siegfried Hummel added, "Anyway, since you now have my attention, what's the story thus far?" "You know how we're both freelance Jackbooters, yet we also happen to have connections 'back east,'" Brenda replied, euphemistically referring to their ties to the Ryanischen für ein Großkatholische Ausbildung. She noticed Siegfried silently nodding his head in agreement, which prompted her to then add, "Well, it turns out that want us to be under employ once again. Chandler the Fair told me that they are some matters that they want to take care of. From what I can tell, it's seems some pretty important stuff that they want us to do, Sieg." "Right, we should talking about this until we get to your locker," Siegfried reminded her, taking note of other students who happened to be within hearing distance of overhearing them, who are simply just doing their daily tasks. "There are people out in the hallways here that do not need to be listening, Breda." Brenda agreed. "Of course, Sieg," she said to him in a flat ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When looking at the migrations of various europeans coming to the new world it becomes clear that not all groups faced the same level hardships and trouble with integration. While many groups faced discrimination one group stands out mainly due to the amount of attention that their presence garnered. I feel that the Irish had the most difficult time for the size of their population when compared to other european groups. One of the largest waves of migration from the Irish came about from the potato blight, which had devastated the Irish and caused massive famine. While many groups like the English, German, and French sought opportunity in the new world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It's apparent that one of the large factors in the discrimination of the Irish was their faith. One of more damaging aspects of discrimination is the practice of stereotyping, and once again it appears that the Irish were portrayed in a much worse way than English, German, or French immigrants. Nativists would lead the charge and paint the newly arrived immigrants as short tempered, old– fashioned, and drunkards. Examples of political cartoons published during the nineteenth century depict Irish immigrants as having animalistic features and violent.[3] While many of these people had come to America with little job skills and hardly no real wealth after the journey and many employers, influenced by many of these stereotypes, would not the Irish and would even display signs saying "No Irish Need Apply".[4] The discriminatory practices implemented against employing certain immigrants hit the Irish hard because groups like the Germans had previously moved from ghettos into areas like Pennsylvania where they could provide for their own communities by implementing their own tradesmen and skilled labor. And the French assimilated fairly well throughout much of the country, so the French stereotypes diminished over time. Discrimination can take many forms and impact a people in different ways, however with the Irish much of this discrimination was institutionalized and impacted levels of society in areas like ... • 66. The Flow of the River, by Loren Eiseley Essay When reflecting and writing on Eiseley's essay and the "magical element", I balk. I think to myself, "What magic?", and then put pen to page. I dubiously choose a kiddie pool to draw inspiration from, and unexpectedly, inspiration flows into me. As I sit here in this little 10x30 foot backyard, the sky is filled with the flowing gaseous form of water, dark patches of moist earth speckle the yard, the plants soak up their scattered watering, and the leaves of bushes and trees imbue the space with a sense of dampness from their foliage. As my senses tune into the moisture that surrounds me, I fill Braedon's artificial pond with water. I stare at the shimmering surface, contemplating Eiseley's narrative, and the little bit of life's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of all the ways Eiseley imparts his impressions of water and the manner its magic impregnates the world, the one not mentioned is the most intriguing to me. The way he was moved to write about water because of its relationship to his past, is waters definitive magic. The concept of water was the vehicle that transported his feelings to thoughts, and from thoughts to his narrative. He found enchantment where others would have just found a mundane substance. He even writes, "...the enormous mindlessness of space settles down upon the soul." There are others that would contend that there is more magic in the cosmos than in water, but there is a resonance that is stirred in Eiseley, by water's magic. When I sit and think about water, these are some sentiments that stream from me: water, an oasis of cool relief for my throat, when sand dunes and wandering Bedouin nomads migrate on the desert of my tongue; the last days of elementary school when the tease of a late spring swim hints at the summer to come, and the time spent slipping the bonds of my corporeal existence, floating in that ethereal substance; of the cool shade of broad leafed trees drawing water up to their verdant canopy to their aquatic reservoir, sharing a respite from the unforgiving heat of an afternoon sun. Water flows through most of my happiest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 74. Election Day After President Of The United States Election Day is when Americans everywhere get to cast their vote for the next President of the United States. However, Americans don 't directly vote for President. So, what 's happening on Election Day then? It is a bit complicated due to a system involving something called the Electoral College. The Electoral College is the collection of 538 votes that determine who will be the next President of the United States of America. The number 538 comes from the number of Representatives, 438, plus the number Senators, 100, all of which make up Congress. These votes, however, are not given directly to the citizens; they are divvied up amongst the states. Every state, no matter how populous, receives a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. The remaining votes are then given out in proportion to the states ' population (Walenta, 2010). On Election Day, when citizens go to vote, they are not actually voting for who they want to be the next President. They are actually only deciding who the electors will be and telling them how they want them to vote ("Electoralvote.com" ). If a candidate wins the majority of the votes in a state, no matter how minor, he will obtain all of that state's votes. For example, Florida has 29 votes in the Electoral College, if one candidate were to receive just 51% of Florida's vote, he would receive all of the 29 votes, even when 49% of the state did not vote for him. There are many controversial topics regards the Electoral College and how it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The regular crews and groups it had, in addition to the recently formed Volksbesatzung and friendly BUG crews, could not stem the rising tide. Yet despite being outnumbered, coupled with critical shortages of vital resources continuing to hamper the RGA's defensive measures by the end of October, it became apparent that something had to be done about the shortages. But after being contacted by Adelburgers Voss and Schäffer about the possibility of doing a favor to her cousin, Brenda convinced her boyfriend to reconsider their stance during the events of the School Year of the Steamroller. She argued to him that their rise to power in the Jackbooter trade in Lincoln, Nebraska was only because of their collaboration with the RGA, and that to knowingly do business with the other factions–at the RGA's detriment–was a contradiction to the last piece of advice the Nebraskan Dutchman gave them. Warren further supported the Collier–Burns Act in 1947 which, raised gasoline taxes to fund a massive program of freeway construction. California's gasoline taxes helped to influence the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956, which set the scene for highway construction nationwide.
