The Electoral College has long been controversial, and is subject to both criticism and defense. To
understand why either side is valid we must look at its values and its weaknesses, its pros and cons.
The Electoral College was devised to proportionally dole out the power of selecting our executives
geographically. In doing so the Electoral College gives otherwise marginalized portions of the U.S.
population a voice. Adversely the Electoral College can be seen as an obstruction to democracy and

Many of the students found the reading assignments to be the most enjoyable part of the class. Each
of the books were relatable in some way or another. River City Empire by Orville Menard revealed
to students the untold history of Omaha's political past. The book illustrated parts of Omaha that are
still around today. Students could easily visualize these areas and recognize what has changed

I chose to research the Ponca Indian Tribe because they started out in the midwest, and currently still
live in Nebraska. The 4 elements I have elected to write about are the social organizations, their
customs and traditions, language, and the forms of government involved with the Ponca Indian

The Ponca tribe started out in Minnesota, and in the early 1700's they were relocated to western

decisions determine peace and war, trade agreements, and other highly important choices. So, it is
very important that those whom are elected into office will do what is best for their country. To
understand the process of international relations, we must first understand how these leaders are
elected in the first place. Much of this comes down to mathematical processes, and without these,
voting processes would most likely be very corrupt.
Each country elects its leaders differently, but many run on the same principles. Many countries run
democratically, and rely on the plurality voting system, a method where the candidate that is ranked
first is elected. This method is very popular because it involves a good balance of the people and

The novel grew out of her need to "make meaning out of something that was so brutal and
meaningless." Reading factual accounts of the murders wasn't enough for Ward; she needed to write
the story and live the experience to make sense of it all. In her own words, "I had to live it, to write

Ward describes truth as "limiting" when trying to really get inside and understand something, "It

Ann Fugate rebels against her parents and the extreme poverty of her life, accepting the love and

Sioux County Iowa isn't so different from any other rural county in the Midwest. We have rich and
poor towns, public and private schools, good and bad police officers, and plenty of rowdy teenagers.
The Midwest however is a very unique place to live. I lived in the country, about ten minutes outside
of Orange City, Iowa. One summer Wednesday night at about 9:00p.m., after I had just gotten back
home from work, I received a text message from my friend Jon, "Get the truck ready. Be at your
house in 10". I sighed. I knew that meant we were up to no good. I'm not sure what really bothered
me, the fact that Jon was expecting me to drop all of my plans to go on another escapade, or the fact

In the 1800's the federal government was furthering their quest for the fulfillment of their "manifest
destiny"; trying to inhabit the United States from coast to coast. The federal government took
several actions that led to westward expansion. These steps impacted the country and those living in

transcontinental railroad, and movement of native Americans to reservations were just some of the

In our world today if one were to look into languages they would find that there are around 6,000
languages. So how did all these languages come to be, how come we have so many? Well to answer

The Plains Indians tribe that I chose to research was the Omaha Tribe. The Omaha Tribe lived near
present – day Nebraska and parts of Iowa; however, the Omaha Tribe is most known for being
native to Nebraska. This tribe is still on a reservation in Macy, Nebraska today. This tribe is in
Nebraska because when the Europeans arrived to North America, they drove out the Omaha Tribe
along with many other Plains Indians Tribes. Today, the Omaha Tribe consists of around 6,000
members. The Omaha Tribe was a unique tribe mainly because of what they practiced. The Omaha
Tribe practiced polygamy, which was the practice of one man having multiple spouses. In the
Omaha Tribe, the maximum number of wives that a man could have was three. "Their [the Omaha
Tribe] religion was associated with the practice of medicine, and with their war customs, and with

To do service is to help others and to do justice is to serve. With limited service experience and
minimal justice work, I have a different understanding of what justice is and how I can do it as a
professional. The service work that I have done while at Creighton happened during my freshman
year. My idea of justice comes from how I was raised, some personal experience, and one of the

My experience with service while at Creighton started and ended my freshman year with the
Freshman Leadership Program. Because this service experience was three years ago I do not
remember all of the details and conversations that I had while doing this service, following is what I

was the South Omaha Boys and Girls Club. At the club the members of the program were asked to

Anytime you want a fan wants something another store don't have well I go to the Red Zone, they
have a lot of things different then husker hound. Steve has a store her in Omaha as well as right
across the street from Memorial Stadium where there you can get any last minute items they may
want for game day. When I or any fan wants the game day feeling I shop at the red zone.

Election Day is when Americans everywhere get to cast their vote for the next President of the
United States. However, Americans don 't directly vote for President. So, what 's happening on
Election Day then? It is a bit complicated due to a system involving something called the Electoral
College.
The Electoral College is the collection of 538 votes that determine who will be the next President of
the United States of America. The number 538 comes from the number of Representatives, 438, plus
the number Senators, 100, all of which make up Congress. These votes, however, are not given
directly to the citizens; they are divvied up amongst the states. Every state, no matter how populous,
receives a minimum of three votes in the Electoral College. The remaining votes are then given out
in proportion to the states ' population (Walenta, 2010).
On Election Day, when citizens go to vote, they are not actually voting for who they want to be the
next President. They are actually only deciding who the electors will be and telling them how they
want them to vote ("Electoralvote.com" ). If a candidate wins the majority of the votes in a state, no
matter how minor, he will obtain all of that state's votes. For example, Florida has 29 votes in the
Electoral College, if one candidate were to receive just 51% of Florida's vote, he would receive all
of the 29 votes, even when 49% of the state did not vote for him.

During Warren's time as governor, he focused on progressive ideals of the time like efficiency and
