Black People Rights
In 1931, nine black teenage boys were accused of raping two white women. Back then the white
people had more rights than the black people. The white people always called the black people
"niggers" which they didn't like. When they went to court for the boys, the room was filled with a lot
of white people and very few blacks. The boys were sentenced to death and the 13 year old boy was
sentenced to life in prison. This documentary is to inform us about what happened between 1931 to
1933. The trails were affected by all the racism in the U.S. because of all the prejudice. The trails
impacted our country by the way the white and black people were different from each other, the
politics that were involved, and how ordinary people got involved..
During this time there was a lot of racism in the south. The blacks didn't have any of the rights that
the white people had. "We was just mindin' our own business, when one of them said, 'This is a
white man's train. All you Nigger bastards unload." When the black people got onto the train the
white people didn't want them to ride on the train because it is a white people train. When the black
people tried to get on the train they had a fight with the white people. The reason why they had a
fight with the white people was because they were sitting still and they didn't want them to get on
the train. "They beat on us with their fists, they kicked and trampled on our legs. The sheriff said to
me: 'see that gallows, nigger. If

Effects Of Racism On Black People In 1963
Have you ever thought of what it like in 1963? Have you ever thought about how black people were
treated back then? Well, 1963 was a hard time. There was racism, a lot of violence, and hatred. To
start off, in 1963 there was a lot of racism. Back then some people thought there was something
wrong with you because of your skin color. With there being racism there was a lot of segregation.
Segregation meant that white and colored people had to use different things like use of public like
bathrooms or drinking fountains. They also weren't allowed or were served separately at restaurants.
Some of the things like rest stops were worse than whites only. In "Watsons Go To Birmingham
1963", they stop at a rest stop and it was bad. Kenny says, "I went to the door in the little log cabin
that had 'men' carved on it. As soon as I opened the door I gagged! A seat on a piece of wood with a
great, big, open hole!" Now that doesn't seem very clean to me! ... Show more content on

Down in the southern states segregation was big. Some African – American people decided to
peacefully protest against segregation. This included marches and sit ins at restaurants. Not all the
white people liked that happening. That lead to racist terrorism. Some of the most well known
incidents were things like "Bloody Sunday." In "Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963", and incident
happened while they were in Alabama. Joetta was going to sunday school and the church was
bombed. It is known as "The 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing." Luckily Joetta wasn't hurt but

The Black People Of America
Dear black people of America since a young age I've learned that I had to assimilate to two separate
cultures. One being the son of two native nigerians I've had to understand my roots and second
being black in America has an whole other culture and traditions the come along with it. Both
cultures I have grown up with but I can never be fully belong to just one so in a way I have always
been an outsider trying to seek acceptance from the two cultures. But my comprehension and my
appreciation for both of my cultures have never faltered or questioned. Although at a tender age I
was introduced to a great divide of the two cultures making one of my cultures to be a joke. The day
I decided to wear my traditional dashiki to school was an eye opening experience which shown me
how colonization has made africans to be ridiculed.
However being african has also taught me that africans ridicule black americans as well for traits
they believe only reside with being a black america. White culture ridiculing black americans this
transcended to the black american culture using white idealism to deride african. The term " Akata "
is a popular west african term which means black americans but in insult form. Africans look at
black americans as people with no culture and ignorant from their past and blood. The divide
between africans and black americans is prevalent on both sides. Although the term " akata " doesn't
hold any strong historical hate like for example the term " nigger " it is

Killing Of Black People Essay
This year, the American police have already killed more than 500 people. Of those, 25% have been
Black, even though Black people make up only 13% of the population. Last week in Louisiana, two
White police officers killed a Black man named Alton Sterling while he sold CDs on the street. The
very next day in Minnesota, a police officer shot and killed a Black man named Philando Castile in
his car during a traffic stop while his girlfriend and her four–year–old daughter watched.
Overwhelmingly, the police do not face any consequences for ending these lives. Our community
knows these tragedies, too. Anthony Nunez, Melissa Ventura, Pedro Villanueva and Alex Nieto were
all killed by police officers, though none of it was caught on film.
Yet even as we hear about the dangers faced by interactions with police, our instinct is sometimes to
distance ourselves from the victims (and this social justice issue), especially when the victims are
Black. We wonder why they didn't "just obey the officer" or we look for other information about the
victim that justifies their death. When a policeman shoots a Black person, you might think it's the
victim's fault because you see so many media images showing Black people as "thugs" and
criminals. Those images take hold in people's minds ours included. It becomes too ... Show more

Social Classification Of Black People
Black people is a term used in certain countries, often in socially based systems of racial
classification or of ethnicity, to describe persons who are perceived to be dark–skinned compared to
other given populations. As such, the meaning of the expression varies widely both between and
within societies, and depends significantly on context. For many other individuals, communities and
countries, "black" is also perceived as a derogatory, outdated, reductive or otherwise
unrepresentative label, and as a result is neither used nor defined. Different societies, such as
Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Africa, apply differing criteria
regarding who is classified as "black", and these social constructs have also changed over time. In a
number of countries, societal variables affect classification as much as skin color, and the social
criteria for "blackness" vary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the 18th century, the Moroccan Sultan Moulay Ismail "the Bloodthirsty" raised a corps of 150,000

white because they have some distant white ancestry. Sadat's mother was a dark–skinned Nubian

The Conflict Between White People And Black People
The bloodiest "Civil War" war in the United States history was not cure of everything. After the war,
social problems existed for long years. White people and black people kept fighting. Racism was a
very big problem. White people killed lots of black people for no reason. Even after KKK, white
people kept causing problems and killing black people. One of the examples is the Elaine Race Riot.
This bloody riot started in September 30, 1919 in Phillips County 's Elaine Town in Arkansas. In this
essay, I am going to write about this riot and its details.
The Elaine Riot was one of the biggest conflict between white people and black people in the United
States history. A shooting incident started the riot. It happened at a meeting of the Progressive
Farmers and Household Union of America and it led white people to start a riot against black people
in Elaine town in Phillips County, Arkansas and surrounding areas. Around 200 of black people and
5 white people were killed. However, exact number is not known.
The incident happened in September 30, 1919. Around 100 black sharecropper, who were working
on the white landowner 's plantations, attended a meeting of the Progressive Farmers of Household
Union of America. The meeting was at a church in Elaine. The purpose of the meeting was the black
sharecroppers had problems with their payments and they wanted to solve it.

Sambo: Negative Stereotypes Of Black People
People naturally categorize themselves, this allows people to fit into social groups. Also people
naturally categorize others, this is how social norms and stereotypes are made. Historically, African
Americans have been stereotyped in a way to make them seem inferior to the white people around
them. Using media as a main outlet for portraying black people, caricatures developed. The longest
lasting and most easily recognizable today are Sambo, Mammy and Sapphire. Sambo began as a
child's book in the 1800's. In the story black men were represented as constantly happy and not
aware of the problems of real life. Sambo during the slavery era and after as not useful to his
household or society as he was very lazy and irresponsible. Today, one can see Sambo in black
comedies and entertainment. Tracy Morgan presents himself with Sambo characteristics in his acting
and routines. His notoriety only extends a long lived negative stereotype of black men. The impact
of Sambo effects African American males in all parts of society. ... Show more content on

A woman who would raise children and take care of household duties. This role was similar to a
house wife but there was to be no sexual relations between the master and the mammy. The mammy
allowed white women to feel higher in society, closer to the white man. Physically she was
heavyset, dark skinned, usually had her hair wrapped and large breasted. She was loyal to the house
and kind while more abrasive and in charge at her own home. Again entertainment was an avenue of
exploiting this stereotype. The best known mammy in entertainment today would be Tyler Perry's
Madea. The cinema success of his character has shown many people an old image of what a mammy
was. Madea is known for ridiculous antics like attacking people and going to jail but also takes care
of her people. Though Tyler Perry is not the first, Big Mama was also a mammy figure. Even older

The Violence Of Black People And People Of Color Essay
Since its not so humble beginnings in the early 1600s, the country in which we live has had a
plethora of incidents regarding the mistreatment of black people and people of color. From slavery,
to lynchings, to assassinations, and so forth, the pain and suffering of African–Americans has been
very much apart of the "rich" history of the United States of America. Even so, with each new
generation, we as a people have continued to face abuse and exploitation. At this point in our
ongoing narrative, the premise of our grief has shifted to shed a light on the prominence of brutality
in American police force practices.
This ever so popular conversation begins with Trayvon Martin in the year of 2012. Martin was a 17
year black boy who was attacked and shot by neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman (29) as
he was walking home from a convenience store (Trayvon Martin Shooting 1). This young man was
the first police brutality victim since Rodney King to receive an abundant amount of media coverage
and public support. His death reinstated a nationwide conversation about the mistreatment of
African–Americans when it comes to law enforcement in this country. It caused many people to
come up with a plan of action, and not long after he passed, the infamous nationwide movement
referred to as "Black Lives Matter" ensued (Herstory 1).
Regardless of this one tragic incident, it has come to be understood that the murder of innocent
black people by the hands of police has not ceased to

Black People And The American Revolution
Throughout history, black people have been oppressed. As far back to the Middle Passage and
American Revolution. In this essay, I am going to investigate the ways black people resisted their
ill–treatment. I will do this by investigating different time periods between the Middle Passage and
the American Revolution so that we may find trends. From my investigations, we see in what ways
and for what reasons their resistance varied by their time and location in history. Additionally, we
will be able to see how their resistance calmed as they became more familiar to the land, and as they
began to see America as home.
In the Middle Passage, Africans were captured and sold by other Africans of their native land. They
were then packed on a ship as if they were cargo. The conditions on that ship were unsanitary and of
poor life quality, that many were struck with various illnesses. When many of the slaves aboard felt
their growing despair, they attempted to resist their oppression by ending their lives so that they may
mess with the slave business. This is evident in The Making of African American, pg. 63, where we
read that: "Some slaves...were determined to destroy themselves. They waiting the right moment
and threw themselves into the sea and the waiting sharks. When the crew––determined to protect its
valued cargo––blocked the way with nets and other barriers, slaves starved themselves."
This quote shows us that during the beginnings of slavery, at the time of the Middle

IT'S ok to stop black people for no reason and take them to jail. They don't care because they now if
they get stopped they are just going to get a ticket and go on with the their life."Tyquan said one day
he was standing on a wall and the wall had graffiti on the wall. And the police arrested him and said

Persuasive Essay On Black People
Geeta Gandbhir and Blair Foster wrote, "To keep him safe, they may have to tell the child they love
that he risks being targeted by the police, simply because of the color of his skin." This statement is
in regard to the conversation that black parents must give their sons. I remember when I was
younger, my parents sat me and my brothers down and proceeded to give us "the talk." In the black
community, this talk isn't about sex, but instead about what cops will do to you if you do not comply
completely. Honestly, I didn't truly understand until I had an encounter of my own. Black people are
exposed to an unfair amount of stereotyping and profiling. For this reason, I think that black people
should act a certain way when they are in the presence of the police. From the start of a police
encounter, black people have a disadvantage. They are more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested,
and even hurt or killed. In a study done by Stanford researchers, they found that in cities in North
Carolina, black people hold 30 percent of the total searches done in a traffic stop. This number is
astounding because blacks only make up about 10 percent of the population. (Andrews) My mom
told me to never keep anything bad on me so this would never be a problem. Even if black people
don't have anything on them, there still is a high risk of being injured or worse. While unarmed,
black people have a much higher chance of being shot. Janell Ross wrote, "Black males continued to

Apparently, black transgender men and women receive the most threat, anger, and hatred most from
their fellow black people compared to other races even if they appear to be fighting for the same
racial issues that affect all black Americans.
Atlantis Narcisse, the founder of Save our Sisters, an organization that supports black transgender in
Houston, Texas, said that she has received more support from white Americans and believes that her
fellow African–Americans may not stand with her in case she is attacked. Black people may be
willing to support black drug dealers or a black man being beaten to death but they will not stand up
for black transgender men or women who are being murdered.
She also claimed that they are considered a joke by the community. Most of the black community's
views on transgender is affected by their religion and church. There is also a standard where black
men are viewed as having more physical advantage in terms of survival.
If you are a black male and show signs of femininity, it is considered a weakness on your part. This
could lead to consequences for black transgender people. Based on an estimate analysis count by a

Black People Vs White People
"Get up now!" a furious bus driver spits out at one of his passenger who is sitting there as still as a
statue, despite the steaming driver leaning over her. She knew eventually the driver would kick her
out of the seat that she got to first, so without saying anything she gets up and stands in the back.
She remembered to keep her temper as she walked to the back and so she didn't do anything to stop
those snarls from the white people. She looked up from the ground when she reached the back of the
bus. She saw all the whites in the front of the bus sitting on nice clean seats. She looked down again.

Do you know why? Because they had a different skin color. That's why! It is outrageous. They were
separated into groups of black people and white people, which is very prejudice. The white people
didn't bother to see what type of people the black people were. They didn't see if they were
respectful or not, which isn't fair because it wasn't a choice for them to choose whether they wanted
their skin color to be black or white. Yes, they would stay the color they were born to be. No magic
is going to appear. Anyways, according to the laws from the past, buses were also separated into
sections of whites and blacks. If the seats in the front of the bus (where the white people sat) were
full they took the seats from the back of the bus (where the black people sat). Yes, black people had
to give up their seats so that the white people could sit. In the text Heart and Soul The Story of
America and African Americans, chapter 11, page 86, it stated "She took a seat at the front of the
"colored" section of the bus. Now if you can believe this, when a white fellow got on the bus, the
driver told her to get up and give her seat to him. Excuse me? Mrs. Parks said no." This is a situation
that happened on the bus with someone named Rosa Parks. Now, not everyone is brave enough to
do what Rosa Parks did. Most black people would immediately obey, for they didn't want to be
thrown in jail. However, Rosa Parks wanted people to know that white folks can't just boss white
folks around. The black folks have to start standing up for themselves. Black people should have the
right to stay where they are on a bus. They were there first. It is is unfair and injustice to the blacks.

Fences: Black People and Wilson
Joseph Fernandez
Ms. Reilly
World Lit
27, January,2010
The Isolation and Alienation of Troy in Wilson's Fences August Wilson's Fences is a play about life,
and an extended metaphor Wilson uses to show the crumbling relationships between Troy and Cory
and Troy and Rose. Troy Maxson represents the dreams of black America in a majorly white world,
a world where these dreams were not possible because of the racism and attitudes that prevailed.
Troy Maxson is representative of many blacks and their "attitudes and behavior...within the social
flux of the late fifties, in their individual and collective struggles to hew a niche for themselves in
the rocky social terrain of postwar America" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And then I want you to stay on the other side...You stay on the other side of that fence until you
ready for me (Wilson, 77).
There is also the literal fence in the play, which Rose wants Troy to build around their yard. Troy
wonders why Rose would want a fence when they have virtually nothing of value to steal. Bogumil
believes that, "A fence to Rose has spiritual significance, solace to comfort her during the times she
must intervene in the dysfunctional relationship between her son Cory and husband Troy...(48). The
beginning of Act One, Scene Two begins with Rose singing to herself, "Jesus, be a fence around me
every day...." (Wilson, 21). While Troy is building fences to keep people out, Rose builds a fence to
keep them in, as she, "dearly desires to preserve the family she has never had" (Bogumil, 48). Rose
herself says to Troy, "...you know I ain't never wanted no half nothing in my family. My whole
family is half.....Can't hardly tell who's who (Wilson, 68).
Alan Nadel believes that Wilson is making a political statement with the metaphor of a fence. He
sets up his argument with the assertion that. "the idea of a fence is inextricable from the idea of
property" (86). He continues in this vein, linking property to humans, linking humans as a form of
property to the days of slaveholding. He then says that one of the human ideals of freedom was in
ownership; ownership of property. He states that in previous times, "Race or skin color was just
such a fence.

Black People Involved In The Tuskegee Experiment
The government allowed and approved scientific experimentation on innocent humans. Making

The scientific syphilis observation was completely immoral in every way. People were lied to, and

Most people do not know about the Tuskegee study of Untreated Syphilis. The supposed study was

Black People Say Black Lives Matter
When you hear anybody say "black lives matter", they are saying it for a reason. When they say
"black lives matter", they are trying to say that you can't just take advantage of black people and do
bad things to them, even if they do little things wrong. So many people are stereotyping black
people because the small amount of black people who do things wrong and some news station tells
everybody what they did wrong, but there is the vast majority of black lives who are actually trying
to do something with their life. So these people are just trying to say that a black life is just as good

Stereotypes Of Black People
Stereotyping is when something is believed about a group of people that is untrue or only partly
true. When someone stereotypes against a group of people they tend to not understand that group or
do not want to understand them. Black people, to me, are the most stereotyped race. They are
stereotyped as being lazy, loud, they steal, love chicken and watermelon, the women get pregnant
and the men are well–endowed. As humans we tend to allow negative stereotyping to determine our
thoughts, feelings, and our lives in general. People start to believe things that are not true and teach
others that it is acceptable and tolerable to do so. According to April Kemick, from the University of
Toronto, it has been proven that stereotyping has a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

blood pressure. Watermelon also has nutritional benefits being as it is full of vitamins like Vitamin
A, C and B6. It is very low in calories and rich in potassium, even the seeds provide iron and fiber.
Watermelon also aids in the anti–inflammation of arthritic joints. It is an antioxidant proven to help
prevent heart attacks and cancer. Chicken and watermelon have plenty of wonderful qualities to

There is a great deal of jokes and humility towards black people about this stereotype. There is a

America was not founded by black people. Instead, Americans brought black people to America to

slavery. That did not necessarily make everything right. They were still a numerous amount of
prejudice people that would not abide to these laws and would still treat them as if they had no
rights. This situation has not been fixed to this day. The difference from years ago to now, there is

Should Black People Buy From Their Own Businesses?
Should Black People Buy From Their Own Businesses? When African people arrived on the shores
of the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean, the world was altered completely. Following slavery,
especially in America, money went directly to white people because the jobs were governed by
them. Today, the majority of wealthy people are white. As times have changed, Asians, Middle
Easterners, and Latinos or Hispanics have become business owners in the U.S., while the people that
buy from them are mostly their own people, and black Americans. There are successful businesses

A study on racial profiling indicates that African Americans are profiled the most in businesses and
when making purchases (out of every other race included in the research), though a lot of people
have blinded themselves in thinking that since Obama's election, racism has been eradicated
(Bennett, Hill and Daddario 332–338). The same study discovered that some white restaurant
staffers seek to avoid even waiting on black people. It's safe to say that all people want to do when
entering a store is to leave with something, but why are minorities being profiled as if they need to
steal them? There is a big line between respect and invasion, and white–owned businesses have
crossed completely over that line too many times. Meanwhile, black businesses are very scarce, so
the majority of the race almost has to buy from other shops. Minority workers are consistently not
hired for jobs because of the lack of skills, though they are denied job training from white employers
(Vedder and Galloway 90). The government's minimum wage policy allows racial discrimination
within employer choices, and has since 1931 when the Davis–Bacon act was enabled. This act was
designed to protect Northern white workers from competition with black workers, and is still
enacted today, but not for discriminatory reasons. The authors describe the results of the act saying,

Oppression Of Black People In The Usa
An article called the oppression of black people in the USA today states that the systematic
oppression of black Americans is deeply embedded in the fabric of US society. In spite of the fact
that prejudice burdens numerous ethnic gatherings, bigotry against dark individuals is "supported"
by a racist belief system developed from bondage and the hundred year old politically–sanctioned
racial segregation arrangement of Jim Crow which demands their inadequacy to whites. Despite
hidden today, it supports the terrible disparity in instruction, job, housing, medicinal services, and
levels of poverty dividing white and black Americans. Research has demonstrated that there is still
unquestionable confirmation that the criminal equity framework is

The Sambo Stereotypes Of Black People
The origins around the view of black people are formed from slavery (Green 1998). The abolishing
of slavery only increased stereotypes about black people (Green 1998). The oldest stereotype about
black men is Sambo. The Sambo stereotype date back to the colonization of American. Sambo was a
"dumb, child–like man who was happy to be slaves, but do to his natural affinity for laziness
required his slave master contain direction" (Green 1998). The Sambo stereotype was embraced by
mainstream white society and was "featured on music, literatures, games and restaurant menus"
(Green 1998). The theatre received its first taste of black stereotype with the created of Jim Crow in
the 19th century. Jim Crow character was created by T.D. Rice who painted

Analysis Of The Education Of Black People By James Anderson
This book, written by James Anderson, discusses the broad theme of the education of black people
in the South from 1860 to 1935, which spans from the Reconstruction period following the Civil
War to the Great Depression. Anderson looks at black education from a cultural, political, and
economical perspective. One of the main points that this book discusses is the differing views of
different groups when discussions about the education of black people first began. He discusses the
original plans to create an educational system that would further develop emancipation for the black
students, and how that did not actually end up occurring. Students were eventually forced into
schools that were seen as suppressing black people, and eventually led

Describe the position of black people in the USA in 1945.
Blacks in the USA in 1945 were not considered as equal; the treatment of people was based on their
skin colour, a practice that had been going on for many years before, even after the Reconstruction
of society after the Civil War in which the blacks were "liberated" from slavery. In theory, blacks
were free to work and live where they wanted, but the figures at the time told a different story: by
1960, around 17% of the workforce of "white–collar" workers, i.e. professional, technical,
administration, etc., were blacks, while the whites remained the majority at 47%. The "blue–collar"
work, such as craftsmen, manual labourers, etc. – jobs that are renowned for needing less skill and
education – had 40% of the workforce as blacks, and 36% ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Plessy vs. Ferguson (1896) case was when Homer Plessy refused to sit in the "coloured" car of
a train and sat in the "white" section instead. The case went to Supreme Court, and they ruled that
Plessy was guilty and sentenced him to pay a fine or go to jail. This was considered the most
shameful ruling of the Supreme Court in history; it shows the extent of the discrimination against
blacks, even after slavery was abolished– even though Plessy was 1/8 black and 7/8 white, he was
still considered as black in the eyes of the Louisiana law. Although many people thought that this
ruling was shocking, there wasn't much that could be done, since they did not have a definite leader
to show them what the do; everything that the movement did was relatively unorganised, with
maybe one person leading the others. People such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Booker T.
Washington tried to unite blacks under one leadership, but it did not work, because everyone has
different opinion on what should be done about the discrimination problem.
Dr Martin King Jr. was a black leader that advocated peaceful resistance; because of this, many
whites accepted him because they knew that he would not cause violence, but blacks did not like
this as peaceful protest could

The Black And Colored People
The problem in the communities of the black and colored people in America is there need to feel
equal to their dominator. What happens with the black and colored people is they succumb to lower
levels than they are worth and capable of to appease the problem. For example during the separate
but equal era black business were booming, Black Wall Street was thriving, and black children were
just as smart if not smarter than their other counter parts. Not by choice but because they had to be
in order to compete the same is true today but less so. Their education was not monitored and didn't
have to be white washed because it was ran by the people that looked and lived like them. During
desegregation the life of American African people changed forever, in some ways for better and
other ways for the worse.
Integration was the turning point in the wrong direction for black people in my opinion. This was
the start of internalized colonization done by European Americans. The American Africans have
become "assimilated" and very docile or "overconformity" as Ruth Caven would say, to European
culture. In doing this some black leaders will go out of their way not to step on the toes of European
Americans because they feel a closeness and familiarity. This feeling of closeness hinders the ability
to call them on the carpet for slavery, segregation, and all the other crimes up to date. In beating
around the bush the problem cannot be addressed in any way shape or form. Not talking about

Black People Stereotypes
Today a Black man has killed someone. Today a Black woman gave birth to a fatherless child.
Today a Black child was arrested for stealing. Is this really how the media presents Black people?
Throughout the century, Black people have been portrayed as violent, ignorant, and mis educated
negroes because those are the only things the media will broadcast. Black people are not
acknowledged as much as they should be. You will never hear about a Black person going off to
college or receiving a scholarship. The media won't broadcast the positive things Black people have
done to better themselves and their community, they are not giving any recognition for their
accomplishments. Many studies have shown the media's bias and how they are damaging the ...

Meaning that they would have to start off telling every criminal case there is that was done by
Blacks and other races that have committed a crime. Other ways to solving the stereotypical
problems of Blacks would be to stop promoting Black violence and bad things in general that
discerns Blacks in a negative light. Like the roles that Black people play in movies such savages,
gang banger, baby mama, single mothers etc.The media is important for various reasons. for
instance, television is important because it is a dominant source of of the media. With sitcoms,
movies, and news reports all being shown on television, a negative image of Blacks in these things
does not do Blacks social any justice. With that being the case, everyone may not have much one on
one time with Blacks, or everyone may not know Blacks personally so they take what they think
they know about Blacks from the media causing them to then form their own perceptions about
Blacks. In conclusion, solutions to this world issue would be more ownership by African Americans
in the fields of media. Having more Blacks in charge would be the gateway to get more positive

Throughout history the voice of the black man has been silences and his rights oppressed. There was
a time where we as black people were only seen as a number but we have overturned this and
continue to flourish in the community and workplace today. We have survived centuries of violence
and racism and our resilience and refusal to back down or susseed has brought us to the place we are
today. We have fought strongly together for the right to be treated equally and to be given the same
opportunities as the white man. Today, thanks to the grace of god, we see the fruit of our labor and
have the chance to receive an education and better ourselves as a black community. Now more than

Struggle Of The Black People
Struggle of the Black people in the southern Plantation Tradition stories have played a great role in
the lives of many children worldwide. Traditional stories have always carried with its hidden
meanings with each tackling a certain theme. The themes presented always refer to a certain period
or a certain event in some place. The stories use different literary stylistic devices to hide some of
the themes being presented or being passed to other generations. The oral traditions of African
Americans were responsible for the creation of the stories. This is the language pattern and speech
ways of African Americans slaves which are evidenced by the survival of West African beliefs
(Flora and MacKethan 7). One of the stories that have been widely used today is the story Uncle
Remus, His Songs and His Sayings. The story was written by Joel Chandler Harris and it uses an
allegory to present the suffering that the black people underwent in the southern plantation (Flora
and MacKethan 920). The book reflects the powerlessness of the black people and the white
domination over African Americans. It shows how the African Americans had to use trickery to
withstand the treatment they received from the white man. One of the widely known stories in the
book is The Wonderful Tar Baby. In this story, Brer Rabbit is walking, and he encounters the tar
baby, a doll made of both tar and turpentine to trap Brer Rabbit (Chandler 9). Brer Fox successfully
entraps Brer Rabbit by setting the Tar

Why Black People Are Poor
In the United States, the poor are becoming poorer while the rich are becoming richer. This it
nothing new, however it has been brought to light more recently due to the upcoming presidential
election as well as the accessibility of this type of information. Although wealth inequality and poor
distribution of wealth is an issue, marginalized communities such as the Black community are
disproportionately affected by the wealth gap due to institutionalized racism in the USA. The
continuation of discriminatory policies and lack of understanding creates a cyclic environment
where Black people are not able to gain as much economic freedom and prosperity while groups in
power blame them for "not working hard enough" or "taking handouts." It is ... Show more content

I will be using this sociological lens as well as journal articles to further explore the idea of the
"poor black" and why its root cause is white supremacy and racism. Gentrification forces poor
people out of their own communities and makes it harder for them to live there, thus recreating a
community as rich and white. One study focused on the gentrification of neighborhoods in Atlanta
as an "upgrading" of urban areas by the affluent. The journal article describes how over time, as
white people enter a community, the property values and property taxes go up. As Black people's
home value and taxes increase, they are less able to pay for the living costs associated with the area,
and are then forced to sell their home to a different more affluent white person. As the taxes
increase, more money goes to the schools in the area, and then there is another instance where only
white people are getting better education because they can afford it. Many people defend
gentrification, claiming that it, as a fact, makes a community better since there becomes more value
for the homes and more economic growth, however they are not considering the negative aspects
and racist nature of gentrification. They don't see gentrification as a "new" colonialism, and are not
open to seeing the issues with pushing less wealthy Black people out of a neighborhood.
Gentrification does in fact

In both the past and modern times, black people in America have been in danger from our society,
but not all agree upon the proper response to this danger. It is obvious that black people in America
have faced racial discrimination from both authorities and regular people in the past, but this danger
continues into the present. Although it is agreed that this danger exists and needs a response, not all
black men agree upon the actions that should be taken in this response. Black people, even today,

It is disturbing seeing how cops treat people of color. I see it in the news everyday now. Before it
was not that bad but now this year has been the worst year. Many innocent people getting killed.
Going to jail just because the were accused of doing something they did not do. In my own opinion I
think this coming up year is going to be worse than others since our new president is racist. In one
of the podcasts it showed that Trump has said for black people to go back to Africa. He created more
hate towards colored people. What made it more upsetting is that we are afraid for this coming year
to come. Those two cases that I had chosen to write about I think were the worst because Philando
Castile was shot in front of his child. His child had to see him take his last breaths. I know for a fact
he did not want his child to see him be killed especially by an officer. Who we go to if we are in
trouble. Now who will we be able to trust. All because they had a broken tail gate light. He couldn't

there is Kalief who ended up taking up his life just because he was convicted for something he did

Black People and South Africa
The movie invictus portrays a very controversial issue that has been presented throughout history in
many ethnic groups and is seen in societies up to these days. The apartheid is clearly pictured in the
movie through many of the attitudes and actions that people take towards the other race they live in
their day by day. What is more, Mandela constitutes one of the most important figures in South
Africa, especially for the black race as he liberated them from the apartheid. From those days
Mandela has been recognized worldwide as a major symbol of the rainbow nation; a reality of

Over many years Black people have struggled with getting their rights, and still are even to this day.
There were many events that contributed to the disenfranchisement of Black people. Such as, how

Compromise of 1877, the whites were taking Black's rights, also the Northerners didn't stop the

contributed to the disenfranchisement of Black people of their rights was the Ku Klux Klan (KKK).

The Black People And The Civil Rights Movement
Looking back on the history of black people in America, we have come a long way. We still have a
long way to go, even though some progress has been made. Black people started as slaves, who
were the victims of rape, murder, and many other brutal things. Then came the civil rights period
where most black people were free persay, but still lacked basic human rights. Today, black people
in America are living in a place that appears to be equal and racially unbiased. This however, is not
true. Black people are still exposed to racism, and unfair treatment. However, many people believe
that racism and racial injustice do not exist in America. I believe that the progress, that has been
made thus far should be attributed to protesting instead of politics. Though politics has aided in the
rise and development of black people, protesting has played a bigger role. Protests are what lead to
political gain in black history during the civil war period, the civil rights movement, and in the
present. Protesting is the best way to achieve racial justice in America, because protesting sets the
foundation for political change to occur.
One of the biggest and bloodiest protests in the history of America would be the civil war. It divided
the country into two sides, the south and the north. This war can be considered a protest because the
south was displeased with the abolitionist movement going on in the rest of America, and wanted to
secede and form its own country so a war broke out. The

Tar Baby by Toni Morrison 7. What is the symbolic function of the African woman who spits at
Jadine? Tar Baby Toni Morrison's novel might for some be a novel of cultural awakening. One also
might at their first reading and perhaps also by reading the different studies made on Tar Baby,
restricted to an interpretation that sees Jadine, Morrison's protagonist, as woman who has,
consciously or unconsciously, lost her "ancient properties" (305) and internalized the values of a
white culture. Jadine has totally disconnected herself from her racial identity and cultural heritage.
This reading is supported by the fact that Jadine has got her education in Europe with the financial

Jadine refute Ondine's views of black womanhood when she tells her some of the things that are
expected of her from society Jadine tells Ondine that: "I don't want to learn how to be the kind of
woman you're talking about because I don't want to be that kind of woman" (282). This, according
to Rayson (1998), might be interpreted as Jadine's "rejecting the roles of mother, daughter, and
woman to stay the tar baby" (Rayson, 95), however it marks her becoming aware of what kind of
woman she is by the end of the novel. Jadine's inclination toward upward social mobility leads to
her separation from the Afro–American roots and the tar quality that Morrison advocates. This kind
of flaw in Jadine effectively disqualifies her as a black woman capable of nurturing a family and by
large the community. Jadine's perception of an ancestral relationship from which she is estranged
occurs when she sees an African woman in a Parisian bakery. When she is celebrating her success as
model evidenced in her appearance on the cover of Elle, Jadine becomes nervous or perhaps
uncomfortable by the African woman in yellow attire. She triggers an identity crisis in Jadine at the
moment when she should have felt more secure with her professional achievement assured by
beauty and education. In his African woman, Jadine catches a glimpse of beauty, a womanliness, an

Black People Rights

  • 1. Black People Rights In 1931, nine black teenage boys were accused of raping two white women. Back then the white people had more rights than the black people. The white people always called the black people "niggers" which they didn't like. When they went to court for the boys, the room was filled with a lot of white people and very few blacks. The boys were sentenced to death and the 13 year old boy was sentenced to life in prison. This documentary is to inform us about what happened between 1931 to 1933. The trails were affected by all the racism in the U.S. because of all the prejudice. The trails impacted our country by the way the white and black people were different from each other, the politics that were involved, and how ordinary people got involved.. During this time there was a lot of racism in the south. The blacks didn't have any of the rights that the white people had. "We was just mindin' our own business, when one of them said, 'This is a white man's train. All you Nigger bastards unload." When the black people got onto the train the white people didn't want them to ride on the train because it is a white people train. When the black people tried to get on the train they had a fight with the white people. The reason why they had a fight with the white people was because they were sitting still and they didn't want them to get on the train. "They beat on us with their fists, they kicked and trampled on our legs. The sheriff said to me: 'see that gallows, nigger. If ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Effects Of Racism On Black People In 1963 Have you ever thought of what it like in 1963? Have you ever thought about how black people were treated back then? Well, 1963 was a hard time. There was racism, a lot of violence, and hatred. To start off, in 1963 there was a lot of racism. Back then some people thought there was something wrong with you because of your skin color. With there being racism there was a lot of segregation. Segregation meant that white and colored people had to use different things like use of public like bathrooms or drinking fountains. They also weren't allowed or were served separately at restaurants. Some of the things like rest stops were worse than whites only. In "Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963", they stop at a rest stop and it was bad. Kenny says, "I went to the door in the little log cabin that had 'men' carved on it. As soon as I opened the door I gagged! A seat on a piece of wood with a great, big, open hole!" Now that doesn't seem very clean to me! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Down in the southern states segregation was big. Some African – American people decided to peacefully protest against segregation. This included marches and sit ins at restaurants. Not all the white people liked that happening. That lead to racist terrorism. Some of the most well known incidents were things like "Bloody Sunday." In "Watsons Go To Birmingham 1963", and incident happened while they were in Alabama. Joetta was going to sunday school and the church was bombed. It is known as "The 16th Street Baptist Church Bombing." Luckily Joetta wasn't hurt but many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. The Black People Of America Dear black people of America since a young age I've learned that I had to assimilate to two separate cultures. One being the son of two native nigerians I've had to understand my roots and second being black in America has an whole other culture and traditions the come along with it. Both cultures I have grown up with but I can never be fully belong to just one so in a way I have always been an outsider trying to seek acceptance from the two cultures. But my comprehension and my appreciation for both of my cultures have never faltered or questioned. Although at a tender age I was introduced to a great divide of the two cultures making one of my cultures to be a joke. The day I decided to wear my traditional dashiki to school was an eye opening experience which shown me how colonization has made africans to be ridiculed. However being african has also taught me that africans ridicule black americans as well for traits they believe only reside with being a black america. White culture ridiculing black americans this transcended to the black american culture using white idealism to deride african. The term " Akata " is a popular west african term which means black americans but in insult form. Africans look at black americans as people with no culture and ignorant from their past and blood. The divide between africans and black americans is prevalent on both sides. Although the term " akata " doesn't hold any strong historical hate like for example the term " nigger " it is ... • 7. Killing Of Black People Essay This year, the American police have already killed more than 500 people. Of those, 25% have been Black, even though Black people make up only 13% of the population. Last week in Louisiana, two White police officers killed a Black man named Alton Sterling while he sold CDs on the street. The very next day in Minnesota, a police officer shot and killed a Black man named Philando Castile in his car during a traffic stop while his girlfriend and her four–year–old daughter watched. Overwhelmingly, the police do not face any consequences for ending these lives. Our community knows these tragedies, too. Anthony Nunez, Melissa Ventura, Pedro Villanueva and Alex Nieto were all killed by police officers, though none of it was caught on film. Yet even as we hear about the dangers faced by interactions with police, our instinct is sometimes to distance ourselves from the victims (and this social justice issue), especially when the victims are Black. We wonder why they didn't "just obey the officer" or we look for other information about the victim that justifies their death. When a policeman shoots a Black person, you might think it's the victim's fault because you see so many media images showing Black people as "thugs" and criminals. Those images take hold in people's minds ours included. It becomes too ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are telling you this out of love, because we don't want this issue to divide us. • 9. Social Classification Of Black People Black people is a term used in certain countries, often in socially based systems of racial classification or of ethnicity, to describe persons who are perceived to be dark–skinned compared to other given populations. As such, the meaning of the expression varies widely both between and within societies, and depends significantly on context. For many other individuals, communities and countries, "black" is also perceived as a derogatory, outdated, reductive or otherwise unrepresentative label, and as a result is neither used nor defined. Different societies, such as Australia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, the United States and South Africa, apply differing criteria regarding who is classified as "black", and these social constructs have also changed over time. In a number of countries, societal variables affect classification as much as skin color, and the social criteria for "blackness" vary. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He claims that black–looking Arabs, much like black–looking Latin Americans, consider themselves white because they have some distant white ancestry. • 11. The Conflict Between White People And Black People The bloodiest "Civil War" war in the United States history was not cure of everything. After the war, social problems existed for long years. White people and black people kept fighting. Racism was a very big problem. White people killed lots of black people for no reason. Even after KKK, white people kept causing problems and killing black people. One of the examples is the Elaine Race Riot. This bloody riot started in September 30, 1919 in Phillips County 's Elaine Town in Arkansas. In this essay, I am going to write about this riot and its details. The Elaine Riot was one of the biggest conflict between white people and black people in the United States history. A shooting incident started the riot. It happened at a meeting of the Progressive Farmers and Household Union of America and it led white people to start a riot against black people in Elaine town in Phillips County, Arkansas and surrounding areas. Around 200 of black people and 5 white people were killed. However, exact number is not known. The incident happened in September 30, 1919. Around 100 black sharecropper, who were working on the white landowner 's plantations, attended a meeting of the Progressive Farmers of Household Union of America. • 13. Sambo: Negative Stereotypes Of Black People People naturally categorize themselves, this allows people to fit into social groups. Also people naturally categorize others, this is how social norms and stereotypes are made. Historically, African Americans have been stereotyped in a way to make them seem inferior to the white people around them. Using media as a main outlet for portraying black people, caricatures developed. The longest lasting and most easily recognizable today are Sambo, Mammy and Sapphire. Sambo began as a child's book in the 1800's. In the story black men were represented as constantly happy and not aware of the problems of real life. Sambo during the slavery era and after as not useful to his household or society as he was very lazy and irresponsible. Today, one can see Sambo in black comedies and entertainment. Tracy Morgan presents himself with Sambo characteristics in his acting and routines. His notoriety only extends a long lived negative stereotype of black men. The impact of Sambo effects African American males in all parts of society. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A woman who would raise children and take care of household duties. Physically she was heavyset, dark skinned, usually had her hair wrapped and large breasted. She was loyal to the house and kind while more abrasive and in charge at her own home. Again entertainment was an avenue of exploiting this stereotype. The best known mammy in entertainment today would be Tyler Perry's Madea. The cinema success of his character has shown many people an old image of what a mammy was. Madea is known for ridiculous antics like attacking people and going to jail but also takes care of her people. Though Tyler Perry is not the first, Big Mama was also a mammy figure. • 15. The Violence Of Black People And People Of Color Essay Since its not so humble beginnings in the early 1600s, the country in which we live has had a plethora of incidents regarding the mistreatment of black people and people of color. From slavery, to lynchings, to assassinations, and so forth, the pain and suffering of African–Americans has been very much apart of the "rich" history of the United States of America. Even so, with each new generation, we as a people have continued to face abuse and exploitation. At this point in our ongoing narrative, the premise of our grief has shifted to shed a light on the prominence of brutality in American police force practices. This ever so popular conversation begins with Trayvon Martin in the year of 2012. Martin was a 17 year black boy who was attacked and shot by neighborhood watchman, George Zimmerman (29) as he was walking home from a convenience store (Trayvon Martin Shooting 1). This young man was the first police brutality victim since Rodney King to receive an abundant amount of media coverage and public support. His death reinstated a nationwide conversation about the mistreatment of African–Americans when it comes to law enforcement in this country. It caused many people to come up with a plan of action, and not long after he passed, the infamous nationwide movement referred to as "Black Lives Matter" ensued (Herstory 1). Regardless of this one tragic incident, it has come to be understood that the murder of innocent black people by the hands of police has not ceased to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Black People And The American Revolution Throughout history, black people have been oppressed. As far back to the Middle Passage and American Revolution. In this essay, I am going to investigate the ways black people resisted their ill–treatment. I will do this by investigating different time periods between the Middle Passage and the American Revolution so that we may find trends. From my investigations, we see in what ways and for what reasons their resistance varied by their time and location in history. Additionally, we will be able to see how their resistance calmed as they became more familiar to the land, and as they began to see America as home. In the Middle Passage, Africans were captured and sold by other Africans of their native land. They were then packed on a ship as if they were cargo. The conditions on that ship were unsanitary and of poor life quality, that many were struck with various illnesses. When many of the slaves aboard felt their growing despair, they attempted to resist their oppression by ending their lives so that they may mess with the slave business. This is evident in The Making of African American, pg. 63, where we read that: "Some slaves...were determined to destroy themselves. They waiting the right moment and threw themselves into the sea and the waiting sharks. When the crew––determined to protect its valued cargo––blocked the way with nets and other barriers, slaves starved themselves." Many white people think IT'S ok to stop black people for no reason and take them to jail. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Black People Geeta Gandbhir and Blair Foster wrote, "To keep him safe, they may have to tell the child they love that he risks being targeted by the police, simply because of the color of his skin." This statement is in regard to the conversation that black parents must give their sons. I remember when I was younger, my parents sat me and my brothers down and proceeded to give us "the talk." In the black community, this talk isn't about sex, but instead about what cops will do to you if you do not comply completely. Honestly, I didn't truly understand until I had an encounter of my own. Black people are exposed to an unfair amount of stereotyping and profiling. For this reason, I think that black people should act a certain way when they are in the presence of the police. From the start of a police encounter, black people have a disadvantage. They are more likely to be stopped, searched, arrested, and even hurt or killed. In a study done by Stanford researchers, they found that in cities in North Carolina, black people hold 30 percent of the total searches done in a traffic stop. This number is astounding because blacks only make up about 10 percent of the population. (Andrews) My mom told me to never keep anything bad on me so this would never be a problem. Even if black people don't have anything on them, there still is a high risk of being injured or worse. While unarmed, black people have a much higher chance of being shot. Hearn saw a video on social media featuring an interview with Lil Duval, a black comedian on a morning radio show in New York City called The Breakfast Club. The show caters to a viewership of African–Americans. Apparently, black transgender men and women receive the most threat, anger, and hatred most from their fellow black people compared to other races even if they appear to be fighting for the same racial issues that affect all black Americans. Atlantis Narcisse, the founder of Save our Sisters, an organization that supports black transgender in Houston, Texas, said that she has received more support from white Americans and believes that her fellow African–Americans may not stand with her in case she is attacked. Black people may be willing to support black drug dealers or a black man being beaten to death but they will not stand up for black transgender men or women who are being murdered. She also claimed that they are considered a joke by the community. Most of the black community's views on transgender is affected by their religion and church. There is also a standard where black men are viewed as having more physical advantage in terms of survival. If you are a black male and show signs of femininity, it is considered a weakness on your part. This could lead to consequences for black transgender people. • 25. Black People Vs White People "Get up now!" a furious bus driver spits out at one of his passenger who is sitting there as still as a statue, despite the steaming driver leaning over her. She knew eventually the driver would kick her out of the seat that she got to first, so without saying anything she gets up and stands in the back. She remembered to keep her temper as she walked to the back and so she didn't do anything to stop those snarls from the white people. She looked up from the ground when she reached the back of the bus. She saw all the whites in the front of the bus sitting on nice clean seats. She looked down again. She looked at her skin. She couldn't hold it anymore, she kicked a rock in front of her, luckily, it didn't got too far. It flew a few inches ahead. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Do you know why? Because they had a different skin color. That's why! It is outrageous. They were separated into groups of black people and white people, which is very prejudice. The white people didn't bother to see what type of people the black people were. They didn't see if they were respectful or not, which isn't fair because it wasn't a choice for them to choose whether they wanted their skin color to be black or white. Yes, they would stay the color they were born to be. No magic is going to appear. Anyways, according to the laws from the past, buses were also separated into sections of whites and blacks. If the seats in the front of the bus (where the white people sat) were full they took the seats from the back of the bus (where the black people sat). Yes, black people had to give up their seats so that the white people could sit. In the text Heart and Soul The Story of America and African Americans, chapter 11, page 86, it stated "She took a seat at the front of the "colored" section of the bus. Now if you can believe this, when a white fellow got on the bus, the driver told her to get up and give her seat to him. Excuse me? Mrs. Parks said no." This is a situation that happened on the bus with someone named Rosa Parks. Now, not everyone is brave enough to do what Rosa Parks did. Most black people would immediately obey, for they didn't want to be thrown in jail. However, Rosa Parks wanted people to know that white folks can't just boss white folks around. The black folks have to start standing up for themselves. Black people should have the right to stay where they are on a bus. They were there first. It is is unfair and injustice to the blacks. • 27. Fences: Black People and Wilson Joseph Fernandez Ms. Reilly World Lit 27, January,2010 The Isolation and Alienation of Troy in Wilson's Fences August Wilson's Fences is a play about life, and an extended metaphor Wilson uses to show the crumbling relationships between Troy and Cory and Troy and Rose. Troy Maxson represents the dreams of black America in a majorly white world, a world where these dreams were not possible because of the racism and attitudes that prevailed. Troy Maxson is representative of many blacks and their "attitudes and behavior...within the social flux of the late fifties, in their individual and collective struggles to hew a niche for themselves in the rocky social terrain of postwar America" ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And then I want you to stay on the other side...You stay on the other side of that fence until you ready for me (Wilson, 77). There is also the literal fence in the play, which Rose wants Troy to build around their yard. Troy wonders why Rose would want a fence when they have virtually nothing of value to steal. Bogumil believes that, "A fence to Rose has spiritual significance, solace to comfort her during the times she must intervene in the dysfunctional relationship between her son Cory and husband Troy...(48). The beginning of Act One, Scene Two begins with Rose singing to herself, "Jesus, be a fence around me every day...." (Wilson, 21). While Troy is building fences to keep people out, Rose builds a fence to keep them in, as she, "dearly desires to preserve the family she has never had" (Bogumil, 48). Rose herself says to Troy, "...you know I ain't never wanted no half nothing in my family. My whole family is half.....Can't hardly tell who's who (Wilson, 68). Alan Nadel believes that Wilson is making a political statement with the metaphor of a fence. He sets up his argument with the assertion that. "the idea of a fence is inextricable from the idea of property" (86). He continues in this vein, linking property to humans, linking humans as a form of property to the days of slaveholding. He then says that one of the human ideals of freedom was in ownership; ownership of property. He states that in previous times, "Race or skin color was just such a fence. ... When someone stereotypes against a group of people they tend to not understand that group or do not want to understand them. Black people, to me, are the most stereotyped race. They are stereotyped as being lazy, loud, they steal, love chicken and watermelon, the women get pregnant and the men are well–endowed. As humans we tend to allow negative stereotyping to determine our thoughts, feelings, and our lives in general. People start to believe things that are not true and teach others that it is acceptable and tolerable to do so. That did not necessarily make everything right. They were still a numerous amount of prejudice people that would not abide to these laws and would still treat them as if they had no rights. When African people arrived on the shores of the Americas, Europe, and the Caribbean, the world was altered completely. Following slavery, especially in America, money went directly to white people because the jobs were governed by them. Today, the majority of wealthy people are white. As times have changed, Asians, Middle Easterners, and Latinos or Hispanics have become business owners in the U.S., while the people that buy from them are mostly their own people, and black Americans. The same study discovered that some white restaurant staffers seek to avoid even waiting on black people. It's safe to say that all people want to do when entering a store is to leave with something, but why are minorities being profiled as if they need to steal them? There is a big line between respect and invasion, and white–owned businesses have crossed completely over that line too many times. Meanwhile, black businesses are very scarce, so the majority of the race almost has to buy from other shops. Minority workers are consistently not hired for jobs because of the lack of skills, though they are denied job training from white employers (Vedder and Galloway 90). The government's minimum wage policy allows racial discrimination within employer choices, and has since 1931 when the Davis–Bacon act was enabled. Anderson looks at black education from a cultural, political, and economical perspective. One of the main points that this book discusses is the differing views of different groups when discussions about the education of black people first began. • 45. Describe the position of black people in the USA in 1945. Blacks in the USA in 1945 were not considered as equal; the treatment of people was based on their skin colour, a practice that had been going on for many years before, even after the Reconstruction of society after the Civil War in which the blacks were "liberated" from slavery. In theory, blacks were free to work and live where they wanted, but the figures at the time told a different story: by 1960, around 17% of the workforce of "white–collar" workers, i.e. professional, technical, administration, etc., were blacks, while the whites remained the majority at 47%. The "blue–collar" work, such as craftsmen, manual labourers, etc. – jobs that are renowned for needing less skill and education – had 40% of the workforce as blacks, and 36% ... The case went to Supreme Court, and they ruled that Plessy was guilty and sentenced him to pay a fine or go to jail. This was considered the most shameful ruling of the Supreme Court in history; it shows the extent of the discrimination against blacks, even after slavery was abolished– even though Plessy was 1/8 black and 7/8 white, he was still considered as black in the eyes of the Louisiana law. Although many people thought that this ruling was shocking, there wasn't much that could be done, since they did not have a definite leader to show them what the do; everything that the movement did was relatively unorganised, with maybe one person leading the others. People such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Booker T. Washington tried to unite blacks under one leadership, but it did not work, because everyone has different opinion on what should be done about the discrimination problem. • 47. The Black And Colored People The problem in the communities of the black and colored people in America is there need to feel equal to their dominator. What happens with the black and colored people is they succumb to lower levels than they are worth and capable of to appease the problem. For example during the separate but equal era black business were booming, Black Wall Street was thriving, and black children were just as smart if not smarter than their other counter parts. Not by choice but because they had to be in order to compete the same is true today but less so. Their education was not monitored and didn't have to be white washed because it was ran by the people that looked and lived like them. During desegregation the life of American African people changed forever, in some ways for better and other ways for the worse. Integration was the turning point in the wrong direction for black people in my opinion. This was the start of internalized colonization done by European Americans. The American Africans have become "assimilated" and very docile or "overconformity" as Ruth Caven would say, to European culture. In doing this some black leaders will go out of their way not to step on the toes of European Americans because they feel a closeness and familiarity. This feeling of closeness hinders the ability to call them on the carpet for slavery, segregation, and all the other crimes up to date. Traditional stories have always carried with its hidden meanings with each tackling a certain theme. The themes presented always refer to a certain period or a certain event in some place. The stories use different literary stylistic devices to hide some of the themes being presented or being passed to other generations. The oral traditions of African Americans were responsible for the creation of the stories. This is the language pattern and speech ways of African Americans slaves which are evidenced by the survival of West African beliefs (Flora and MacKethan 7). One of the stories that have been widely used today is the story Uncle Remus, His Songs and His Sayings. The story was written by Joel Chandler Harris and it uses an allegory to present the suffering that the black people underwent in the southern plantation (Flora and MacKethan 920). The book reflects the powerlessness of the black people and the white domination over African Americans. It shows how the African Americans had to use trickery to withstand the treatment they received from the white man. One of the widely known stories in the book is The Wonderful Tar Baby. I will be using this sociological lens as well as journal articles to further explore the idea of the "poor black" and why its root cause is white supremacy and racism. Gentrification forces poor people out of their own communities and makes it harder for them to live there, thus recreating a community as rich and white. One study focused on the gentrification of neighborhoods in Atlanta as an "upgrading" of urban areas by the affluent. The journal article describes how over time, as white people enter a community, the property values and property taxes go up. As Black people's home value and taxes increase, they are less able to pay for the living costs associated with the area, and are then forced to sell their home to a different more affluent white person. As the taxes increase, more money goes to the schools in the area, and then there is another instance where only white people are getting better education because they can afford it. Many people defend gentrification, claiming that it, as a fact, makes a community better since there becomes more value for the homes and more economic growth, however they are not considering the negative aspects and racist nature of gentrification. • 71. The Black People And The Civil Rights Movement Looking back on the history of black people in America, we have come a long way. We still have a long way to go, even though some progress has been made. Black people started as slaves, who were the victims of rape, murder, and many other brutal things. Then came the civil rights period where most black people were free persay, but still lacked basic human rights. Today, black people in America are living in a place that appears to be equal and racially unbiased. This however, is not true. Black people are still exposed to racism, and unfair treatment. However, many people believe that racism and racial injustice do not exist in America. I believe that the progress, that has been made thus far should be attributed to protesting instead of politics. Though politics has aided in the rise and development of black people, protesting has played a bigger role. Protests are what lead to political gain in black history during the civil war period, the civil rights movement, and in the present. Protesting is the best way to achieve racial justice in America, because protesting sets the foundation for political change to occur. One of the biggest and bloodiest protests in the history of America would be the civil war. It divided the country into two sides, the south and the north. This war can be considered a protest because the south was displeased with the abolitionist movement going on in the rest of America, and wanted to secede and form its own country so a war broke out. • 73. Black People Tar Baby by Toni Morrison 7. What is the symbolic function of the African woman who spits at Jadine? Tar Baby Toni Morrison's novel might for some be a novel of cultural awakening. One also might at their first reading and perhaps also by reading the different studies made on Tar Baby, restricted to an interpretation that sees Jadine, Morrison's protagonist, as woman who has, consciously or unconsciously, lost her "ancient properties" (305) and internalized the values of a white culture. Jadine has totally disconnected herself from her racial identity and cultural heritage. This reading is supported by the fact that Jadine has got her education in Europe with the financial assistance of Valerian Street (her aunt's and uncle's ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jadine refute Ondine's views of black womanhood when she tells her some of the things that are expected of her from society Jadine tells Ondine that: "I don't want to learn how to be the kind of woman you're talking about because I don't want to be that kind of woman" (282). This, according to Rayson (1998), might be interpreted as Jadine's "rejecting the roles of mother, daughter, and woman to stay the tar baby" (Rayson, 95), however it marks her becoming aware of what kind of woman she is by the end of the novel. Jadine's inclination toward upward social mobility leads to her separation from the Afro–American roots and the tar quality that Morrison advocates. This kind of flaw in Jadine effectively disqualifies her as a black woman capable of nurturing a family and by large the community. Jadine's perception of an ancestral relationship from which she is estranged occurs when she sees an African woman in a Parisian bakery. When she is celebrating her success as model evidenced in her appearance on the cover of Elle, Jadine becomes nervous or perhaps uncomfortable by the African woman in yellow attire. She triggers an identity crisis in Jadine at the moment when she should have felt more secure with her professional achievement assured by beauty and education. In his African woman, Jadine catches a glimpse of beauty, a womanliness, an innate elegance, a nurturer, an ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 77. The Black People Song Video Analysis There was a boy in a new middle school who had a black mom who was in South Carolina with two brothers, a step–mom who was white and was way better at being a mom. And he also had a dad who was puerto rican. The boy moved to a new state in 2013 and started a new life in a town called Plymouth. I was excited but once he started 1rst grade he was always being called and said stupid jokes about being black. This moved on to middle school which was way worst than being joked in elementary school. The middle school was way different, and some of the reasons why it was so different was because it had sports teams, you walk around the hallways to get to classes, and was to elementary schools put together and that is why it is so different. There were kids that think they are cool and bully or make fun of anyone who they don't like and this is something that is going to come back to bother me! ...
