Domestic violence, also known
as domestic abuse is a pattern of
behavior which involves the abuse by one
partner against another in an intimate
relationship such as marriage.

Abusers use many tactics to exert power over
their spouse or partner:
Physical abuse is abuse involving contact intended
to cause feelings of intimidation, pain, injury, or
other physical suffering or bodily harm.
Sexual abuse is any situation in which force or
threat is used to obtain participation in unwanted
sexual activity. It is an act of aggression and
violence.

Emotional abuse can include humiliating the
victim privately or publicly, withholding
information from the victim, isolating the victim
from friends and family etc.
Verbal abuse is a form of emotionally abusive
behavior involving the use of language. Verbal
abuse can also be referred to as the act of
threatening.
Economic abuse is a form of abuse when one
intimate partner has control over the other
partner's access to economic resources.
In some parts of the world, specific forms of
domestic violence, such as honor killings, acid
attacks and dowry violence, are common.

perpetuate domestic
violence:
CULTURAL:
• Gender specific
socialization
• Belief in superiority
of males
• Customs of marriage

• lesser legal status of
women either by
written law or by
practice.

On children: child who is exposed to
domestic abuse during their
upbringing will suffer in their
developmental and psychological
welfare
Physical: Bruises, broken bones,
head injuries and internal bleeding
are some of the acute effects of a
domestic violence incident that
require medical attention and
hospitalization.
Psychological: Among victims who
are still living with their
perpetrators high amounts of stress,
fear, and anxiety are commonly
reported. Depression is also common.
Many after effects include mental
stress, alcoholism, and drug
addiction.
20. REMEDIES
Developing good attitude since child hood.
Ban the movies and serial which show abuses
on women
Establishing some institutions which train
women in protecting themselves.
creating awareness among people by using
papers, printed t-shirts etc..
