With the oath of creating power of humanity, the Bengali New Year observed.
The DU VC on Thursday celebrating the eve asked to establish values of family unity and
sensitivity towards children and women.
‘The mother and child’ the theme was embedded in the consciousness on the eve, the Dhaka
University VC Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the colorful celebration rally of
Pohela Boishakh namely ‘Mongol Shova jatra’, said in a press release.

from premise of the Dhaka university Fine Arts department upon the leadership of the VC.
The students of the university, teachers and apart from race, color, age, sex or profession, people
from all the classes of the society took part in the rally which started from the Shahbagh circle
crossing the streets of Ruposhi Bangla to TSC, the rally ended at premise of Fine Arts
department of the university.
The presentation of the symbols on the theme ‘The mother and child’ the ‘Mongol Shova jatra’
have added a new theme in the social perspective of the nation; the flourished consciousness of
mind has been expressed. Each and every structure used in the ‘Mongol Shova jatra’ carried a
unique motive by unveiling the power of the Bengali culture. Enormous symbolic masks, dhol,
dugdugi, aktara, and with rhythmic harmony of flutes, the university has introduced the
importance of humanity, family unties and with oath to advance Bangladesh in the Bengali new
year 1423, stated in the press release.
The VC Professor Dr. AAMS Arefin Siddique thanked all concerned on behalf of the university
authority while inaugurating the Bengali New Year celebration. The VC expressing wellness of
all said expecting the wellness of the mother and child means expecting the wellness of the world
residents. With respect to the father of the nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the three million
martyrs of the great freedom fight he enchanted wellness of the country citizens and called to
make the advancement of the country and the society towards development using the power of
2. humanity. By expecting the overall wellness of the country he asked to flourish the expectation
of the great minds. Society, family and the overall unity standing of the Bengali nation is the
result of today’s pohela Boishakh, he added. By transforming the infirmity of oldness to the
message of the newness is the moral of the celebration of the Bengali New year. The children
have to be addressed in the mind. The children will lead the world for them the world has to be
secured. The country, society and the family have to ensure security for children. The role of
mother on the development of the children is important. Our hope from the ‘Mongol Shova jatra’
is the establishment of values on the sensitivity towards children and women using the unity of
family.
At 8:00 am of the morning with the cultural programme by the music department of the
university at the spread of the banyan tree the arrangements of the celebration kicked off. The
VC delivered his welcoming speech on the inauguration of the New Year’s Eve expressing
thanks and importance of the day and later also joined the inauguration ceremony arranged by
the Bangla department and alumni association at Arts department premise. In the programme
Emirates Professor of the university Dr. Anisujjaman, other teachers along with current and
alumni members of the university were present took part in the cultural programme to celebrate
Bengali new year day. Upon initiative of the Theater and Performance studies department the
students performed country songs and ‘Pot gaan’ from 10am to 1pm at the Natmondal premise.
The programme was addressed with gratitude by the chairman of the department Sudip
Chokroborty while inaugurating the programme in the morning.
At evening, a colorful New Year celebration programme took place at the club circle of the
university with cultural events and inauguration of the ‘Nondon circle’. The VC Professor Dr.
AAMS Arefin Siddique as a chief guest and Pro-VC (administration) Professor Dr. Shahid
Akhter Hussain as special guest and the Treasurer of the university, Professor Dr. Md. Kamal
Uddin was also present in the programme. Welcome speech was delivered by the club secretary
and Dr. Md. Bahauddin club president Professor Dr ABM Shahidul Islam delivered his
concluding speech in the programme. The DU VC also inaugurated the eye-attractive circle of
the club premise in the programme. The event was ended with a colorful cultural activity.
Besides, at the Amtola of the university, a new year’s celebration programme took place by the
performance of the youth and children. A day-long cultural programme took place at the
3. university’s ‘Mal Chattar’ area along with other entertainment programmes in the different areas
of the university. Special friendship dinning event was arranged in the different halls of the
university on the celebration eve of the Bengali New Year 1423, the press release added.
