The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Wednesday nabbed 10 persons for their alleged link with
the recent ATM Booth heist more than 45 days of the sensational robbery that took
place in DBBL ATM booth of Kaliakoir upazila, Gazipur.
Acting on a tip-off, the elite force conducted a raid in front of Jamir Uddin Market in Joydevpur
and arrested the ringleader of the Dutch Bangla Bank’s ATM Booth robbery Mohammad Habib
Rubel (32) along with two of his cohorts – Shahadat (24) and Ismail (28) while they were
moving on a tempo, a kind of transports.
“Rubel is a pickup driver and used to live at Board Bazar area of Kaliakoir Upazila for nearly 13
years. He has also engaged in scrap business,” RAB’s spokesman Mufti Mahmud Khan said.
The law enforcement agency also recovered a pistol and Tk 0.9 million in cash from their
possession during the hunt.
The RAB men claimed that Rubel in the preliminary interrogation confessed their involvement
in the robbery, saying that they were carrying the money, that the elite forced had recovered, to
handover one Shahid who directly took part in the mission.
Following the detainees’ confessional statement, the security force men detained Shahid from
Salna Bazar of Gazipur before unearthing two sharp weapons that were used in committing such
crimes.
According to his statement, the elite force members also conducted another drive at Jashim
Uddin Crossing in the capital’s Uttara area from where they picked up six more individuals in
connection with the robbery. They are Mohammad Farid, Delwar alias Delu, Ibrahim, Nazrul
Islam alias Sabuz, Alamgir Hossain alias Panju Mollah and Md. Hasan Meer.
In the early hours on March 2, 2016, a team of armed robbers stormed into DBBL ATM Booth at
Harinhati of Kaliakoir Upazila in Gazipur and snatched away Tk 18 million on gun point leaving
three persons injured in that attack.
2. Following the incident, private money transferring company Money Plant Link Private Limited
filed a case in this connection with Kaliakoir police station earlier.
Police after recovered the empty steel cases of looted money from the nearby Mymenshing
highway.
