CASE STUDY ONE: COLLEEN M. Colleen M. is a 15-year-old Caucasian girl. She has lived in the state for her entire life. Her father abandoned the family when she was an infant and her mother is currently in a drug rehabilitation facility. Colleen has been living on a farm with her aunt. Although she has no prior contact with the law, she admits to having run away from her aunt in the past, though she always returned on her own. Colleen’s current trouble is centered on a neighbor’s dispute about her dog. After the dog bit the neighbor, the neighbor threatened and attempted to take the dog to animal control. When the neighbor later found Colleen and the dog trespassing on her property, the neighbor verbally threatened to “get” them both. Apparently, the neighbor set fire to a scarecrow on her property to emphasize her point. At this point, Colleen threw a nearby bucket of liquid on the neighbor. The liquid was later determined to be a pesticide. The pesticide burned the skin on contact and triggered an extreme allergic reaction in the neighbor, resulting in her death. Colleen was charged with involuntary manslaughter and was determined delinquent by the court. Colleen claims that she was simply attempting to douse the fire. Coincidentally, a few weeks prior, Colleen had been a passenger of a motor home that had collided with a vehicle driven by the neighbor’s sister. This accident resulted in the neighbor’s sister’s death, though it was ruled an accidental homicide. Witnesses report that Colleen took a pair of fancy shoes off the feet of the corpse and immediately put them on her own feet. Colleen defends her actions by claiming that an observer told her to do this. At the time of her arrest, Colleen’s blood tested positive for opiates. Colleen claims that while traveling with three homeless men, they unknowingly stumbled upon a field of poppies and that before they knew it; the intoxicating aroma caused her to pass out. Abusive foster mother gets 14 years in prison By JOHN IWASAKI, P-I REPORTER Updated 10:00 pm, Friday, December 7, 2007 KENT -- She stabbed her foster daughter's eyes with hypodermic needles, scorched her tongue with a stove-heated fork and dropped 10-pound weights on her feet. Chornice Kabbelliyaa attributed her horrific behavior to severe mental illness, childhood sexual abuse and depression. Her longtime victim -- Kabbelliyaa's cousin -- forgave her in court Friday, even as she pointed out that her relative, in custody for nearly two years, was "locked up and shackled -- exactly how I felt, once upon a time." Judge James Cayce sentenced Kabbelliyaa to 14 years in prison Friday during a hearing at the Regional Justice Center in Kent, saying he doubted the mental assessment of the former foster parent conducted at Western State Hospital. He noted that Kabbelliyaa, 34, who also goes by the last name of Lewis, had not committed similar atrocities on her own children and supposedly had not been found mentally unstable until she was incarcerated. In September, Kabbelliyaa pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault. Kabbelliyaa repeatedly offered her "deepest apologies" and said she was "not making excuses." Her victim, whose words were read in court, accused her cousin of greed and said "the state was so blind to your deceit." A state review of the case released earlier this year found "a system breakdown involving all stakeholders" -- the Department of Social and Health Services, the court system, the court-appointed special advocate program and service providers. Because Kabbelliyaa said she was related to the victim, DSHS and others involved gave less oversight to the case and offered less protection to the girl. School authorities reported concerns about the girl's injuries and said her explanations and stories seemed scripted. The girl felt that "what would happen at home would only get worse" if she spoke out, a prosecutor said in court. But DSHS workers often gave the foster parent, described as combative and intimidating, the benefit of the doubt in investigating complaints, holding her less accountable than a non-relative caregiver. The girl was not removed from Kabbelliyaa's apartment until January 2006. She had lost vision in her right eye and had puncture wounds in her left eye caused by hypodermic needles used to treat Kabbelliyaa's mother's diabetes. Court documents also say that Kabbelliyaa heated forks on a stove and stuck them in the girl's mouth. Kabbelliyaa insisted to social workers and others that it was the girl who was out of control, not her. The girl and her three siblings had become dependents of the state in 1996 after their mother allegedly abused, neglected and exploited some of them. They were then placed with Kabbelliyaa. She recalled during the late 1980s, an odor emanated from the basement and garage prompting Defendant's father, a chemist, to investigate. He found "bones and the residue in the containers." Defendant told him he stripped flesh from an animal he found. As a teen, Defendant had fantasies of killing and mutilating men. After graduating from high school at age 17, he was left alone at home, without money or food, and a broken refrigerator. It is believed by some that this experience, abandonment, and mental illness gave him the justification he needed to commit crimes. However, his own history shows that he had serious problems long before this event. Defendant committed his first murder at age 18. He killed a young hitchhiker he invited to his house, where he killed him with a barbell, then smashed his bones with a hammer because he "didn't want him to leave." He would not kil.

The fake account is used to show romantic interest in the targeted teen, and many deceptive techniques are used to make the targeted teen think that the fake account actually belongs to a real person. The holder of the fake account eventually reveals the trick, posting screenshots on a popular social media platform of embarrassing texts and admissions by the targeted teen. A few days later, the targeted teen waits for the cyberbully outside of school and physically attacks the cyberbully, sending the cyberbully to the hospital. The parents of the cyberbully want to press charges against the targeted teen. Week 3 Before the beginning of a school day, law enforcement arrest a 15-year-old student who attends the local high school. Students, teachers, and even family members describe the student as a “loner.” Some students do not even recognize the student, while others are unaware of his name or refer to him in derogatory terms. The student does have a small group of fellow students with whom he socializes sometimes during lunch, but it’s unclear whether these are friendships outside of school. Case Study The Case of Rick Rick is a 16-year-old male who has had numerous encounters with law enforcement. Currently, Rick is on juvenile probation and attends an alternative school. Among other things, Rick was diagnosed with attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder in his early childhood.
