How Did Marilyn Monroe Impact The World
Could you imagine being one of the youngest fashion icons of your generation, willing to stand out
so much that you had a dress sewn to you? Well Marilyn Monroe did (Life. Time Inc). Marilyn
Monroe brought many great ideas of beauty to the 1960's era. Marilyn Monroe was also a major
fashion icon. An everlasting impact was made in the 1960's through Marilyn Monroe's life, iconic
style and beauty and she continues to be recognized for it even today.
Marilyn Monroe's story is different than other well known celebrities. She didn't have a perfect
childhood growing up which is one of the many things that helped her grow and become who she
was.
Marilyn Monroe had a very unique family situation. Growing up, Marilyn lived with only her
mother, Gladys Baker, for a short time ("About Marilyn Monroe"). Edward Mortenson, the father of
Marilyn Monroe had left her mother before Marilyn was born and Marilyn had never met him.
Taking the place of Marilyn's absent father was her stepfather, Stanley ... Show more content on

She believed that shoes played a very important role in fashion. Marilyn usually would have her
shoes specially designed for her and would also sometimes have them altered by shaving a fraction
of one heel lower than the other to help acquire her signature walk. (Mancoff, Debra). When
choosing shoes she would usually go with peep–toe sandals or heels to show off her pedicure
(Dove, Laurie L). Most people think of red swarovski crystal stiletto pumps when they think of
Marilyn Monroe's signature shoe (Indulgy).
Marilyn believed in accessorizing her outfits as much as possible and she did as much as she could.
She loved diamonds and jewelry and would wear them with almost everything, even swimsuits
(Dove, Laurie L). When having a bad hair day Marilyn Monroe would wear a headscarf to cover it
up. She would also wear head scarves to accessorize an outfit. (Persad,

Mckibben End Of Nature
When it comes to nature everyone has their own personal experience that either made them
appreciate the worlds beauty a little more or transformed them from the inside out, yet humans have
long been blamed for the destruction of everything wild. What is it about nature that William
Mckibben describes in his book End of Nature which makes us "think of people as small and the
world as large" and how did this change to where "the opposite has become the truth." (Mckibben
XV) Humans have put their fingerprints all over the natural world and made it to where they
demand control of it all, instead of nature demanding to control man. This inclination for humans to
think they can make nature whatever they want it to be becomes an issue that must be tackled at a
global scale, starting with each individual's treatment of nature. The end of nature predicted by
Mckibben occurs when we ignore the warning signs that are glaring right at us, and choose to not ...

Even though we separated ourselves from nature in the attempt to salvage some beauty in the world
we still "began to alter places where we were not," through by–products of our industrialized
society. (Mckibben XX) Mckibben says "it is also true that we are apart of nature" (Mckibben XXI)
while Cronon wants us to see that "wilderness is more a state of mind than a fact of nature."
(Cronon 493) While Cronon wants humans to separate themselves from the wild, Mckibben asks us
to confront nature head on. We are apart of it and"we possess the possibility of self–restraint" so we
still have the means to stop abusing the natural order. In order to do this "we would need to change
the ways we move ourselves around, the spaces we live in, the jobs we perform." (Mckibben XXII)
We can start by thinking of practical ways to affect the environment positively, starting in the

Scotch Monologue
I wish I remembered more of my life. There are snapshots in my head but there are long sections
where I find it impossible to file in the gaps. I blame the scotch (no, I didn't drink as a child). I drink
a lot of scotch nowadays and that could be a contributing factor. So I am going to start at the
beginning and put things in place, but they may not be in the right order. But you won't know that,
would you, you weren't there. I can pretty much put anything here and you will have no choice but
to believe it. I will make you this promise: I will not lie to you. I may embellish, or down right just
get it wrong, but I will not lie to you.

myself as I moved from the front hallway to the kitchen. Everything was black, red, and white with
dragons everywhere. It was a far cry from my Aunt Jo's house with the plastic covered couch and
painting of French Aristocrats dancing at a ball that hung on the wall. I'll stick with the plastic
covered furniture, thank you.
One of the more interesting aspect of our house is that we lived across the street from a cemetery.
Ironically, this would not be the last time I did that. The house we lived in when the kids were born
was right behind a Ukraine's church's cemetery. I'll get to that later.
I don't remember the denomination of the church, but the cemetery must have been there for a long
time. I remember seeing some of the gravestones with dates going back as far as the early 1700s.
But I was a kid, I didn't think much about living across from a cemetery; that's just where I grew up.
So I lived on the block. The block. That was a term.

Disneyland History
Disneyland 's History [pic] One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where
children and parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a "magical park," the more
imaginative and elaborate it became. The original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the
Burbank studios where his employees and families could go to relax. Although, World War II put
those plans on hold. During the war, Walt had time to come up with new ideas, and creations for his
magical park. It was soon clear that 8 acres wouldn 't be enough. Finally in 1953, he had the
Stanford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100–acre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed
space to build rivers, waterfalls, and mountains; he would have ... Show more content on

Walt said: "All of us have a cause to be proud of our country 's history, shaped by the pioneering
spirit of our forefathers. . .Our adventures are designed to give you the feeling of having lived, even

"make dreams come true" from the lyrics of "When You Wish Upon a Star." Walt said: "What
youngster. . .has not dreamed of flying with Peter Pan over moonlit London, or tumbling into Alice
's nonsensical Wonderland? In Fantasyland, these classic stories of everyone 's youth have become
realities for youngsters–of all ages–to participate in." Fantasyland would feature a large Sleeping
Beauty Castle, and a Fantasy Village. Tomorrowland was created as a look at the "marvels of the
future." Walt said: "Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. Our scientists today are opening the doors of
the Space Age to achievements that will benefit our children and generations to come. . .The
Tomorrowland attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in

The Maltese Falcon Analysis
Major Works
The following list is a great start for those who want to read the classic hard–boiled stories that have
defined what is meant by a hard boiled fiction. The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. The
Postman Always Rings Twice by James M Cain. It caused a scandal with its explosive mix of
violence and sex. The torrid story of Frank Chambers, the amoral drifter, Cora, the sullen and
brooding wife, and Nick Papadakis, the amiable but inconvenient husband, has become a classic of
its kind, and established Cain as a major novelist with a spare and vital prose style and a bleak
vision of America. Cain's another work Double Identity. Here, Walter Huff is an insurance
investigator like any other until the day he meets the beautiful and dangerous Phyllis Nirdlinger and
falls under her spell. Together they plot to kill her husband and split the insurance.
Another writer Raymond Chandler's work The Long Goodbye deals about a down–and–out drunk
Terry Lennox dying millionaire, Philip Marlowe to handle the blackmailer of one of his two
troublesome daughters, Marlowe finds himself involved with more than extortion. Kidnapping,
pornography, seduction, and murder are just a few of the complications he gets caught up in.
Hammett's innovations were incorporated in the hard–boiled melodramas of James M. Cain (1892–
1977), particularly in such early works as The Postman Always Rings Twice (1934) and Double
Indemnity (1936). Another successor was Raymond Chandler (1888–1959), whose

Walt Disney Struggles
Disneyland Walt Disney just like everyone else had struggles while building the massive amusement
park known as Disneyland. He not only struggled mentally, but also financially ("Disneyland

with ABC and given a loan of $6 million. The struggles were not only during the building process
but also the day of the park opening. ("How"). On opening day 16,000 invitation only people were
invited, but 22,000 extra people showed up with counterfeit tickets. Not only that, but also ("How").

food and drink ran out, a women's high–heel shoe got stuck in the wet asphalt of Main Street USA,

that had happened that day there was a gas leak that had caused several of the themed areas to be
temporarily closed. But, the struggles didn't only happen on the first day when the invitation only
guest was invited to come. They also happened the following day when the park had finally been
open to the public. Rides and attractions broke down under the pressure of too many guests, opening
and closing periodically to make way for television crews ("Disneyland History"). And not to
mention the staggering cost on the first day of its long history, Disneyland charged visitors $1.00
admission (about $6.50 in today's dollars) to get through the gate and see three free attractions in
four themed lands ("Disneyland History"). When the park had been open, there were eighteen

Marilyn Monroe Research Paper
Marilyn Monroe was abused as a girl and suffered alot, but did you know what evolved from all of
it? Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson, later baptized as Norma Jeane Baker.
Marilyn was beautiful, talented, young, rich, everything she could possibly want. But behind that
happy lucky face, Marilyn was a different person. Marilyn was unsure, self destructive, and had a
disabling drug and man problems, she isn't very perfect as most people say.Marilyn was almost
smothered at two and nearly raped at six. At sixteen Marilyn worked in an aircraft, she was a
stewardess. It was her first job that she liked because she met and married a man she called Daddy.
Daddy decided to go to the military and Marilyn was discovered and started her modeling
career, with them going separate ways, divorced in 1946. No one knows Monroe's biological father.
Some say it was Gladys' second husband, Martin Mortensen. Gladys Baker Mortensen, mother of
Marilyn, was a film–cutter at RKO studios. She was alone and mentally ill. and was taken to a
mental hospital, Marilyn went to a foster home. Gladys and Martin were separated before M arilyn's

To most women she wasn't just beautiful(2).She was more than that. She was a role model who
showed young woman they could triumph over a troubled past and still grow up to be anything they
wanted. She wasn't especially skinny, she had a good sense of humor, and she always seemed to be
herself(2). She changed forever the way we look at woman in acting, modeling, and sports. Men
always say things that women are not suppose to do because they think its un–feminine. Marilyn
proved them wrong, she encourages women to do what they love, even if it doesn't seem lady–like.

Thus became very human need of entertainment. Most of the hard boiled crime fiction stories
involve private investigators as the hero, though Sherlock Holmes was a private eye and the stories
aren't hard–boiled, and Cain never wrote a detective novel. They are realistic, in the sense that
people who go out and get a private investigator license are hired to solve crimes, which is more
than the village vicar or the head of the gardening club can say. These situations will definitely
make a curiosity in eyes of the reader than the normal occasions.
The Setting As we discussed earlier the setting for hardboiled detective fiction is usually a large city,
an urban area, or an industrial area. The cities tend to be dark, dangerous places run by corrupt
politicians, gangster syndicates, and an occasional corrupt police officer. Often the stories
themselves have more night scenes than daylight scenes, which contribute to the overall dark
atmosphere of the stories thus, can create more mind blowing occasions. Hard boiled fiction covers
a broad range of writing about crime and the people involved in criminal activity or violence, the
police, private detectives, criminals, lawyers, and so on. The plots range from the solving of the
mystery of who committed the crime to following the

The Legendary Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe's legend remains as the ultimate blonde bombshell and as one of the most
recognizable faces ever to grace the silver screen. Born June 1, 1926 she was baptized Norma Jean
Baker. Her turbulent youth was due to an absentee father and a mentally unstable mother. By 1933
she went to live with her mother's best friend, Grace McKee, and she was the first to give Norma
Jean the idea of becoming a movie star.
Despite her new found love of cinema and hollywood celebrities, her childhood continued to be
chaotic. After 1935 she moved through a number of foster homes, and she was even sexually
abused. At the end of 1942 Norma Jean married her first husband James Dougherty While he was
overseas fighting in World War II, Norma Jean got a factory job. Soon after a photograph of her at
work appeared in a military magazine and she began her modeling career.
She became a sought after model and her success caught the attention of an executive at 20th
Century Fox. He helped make Norma Jean a star by altering her appearance and changing her name
to prepare her for Hollywood. Marilyn Monroe was chosen as her name because of her resemblance
to Broadway actress Marilyn Miller and because Monroe had been her mother's maiden name.
Her acting career started with small roles. One of her first appearances was as a brunette in the Marx
Brothers film Love Happy. Her first substantial roles came in 1950 with The Asphalt Jungle and All
about Eve. Those films both casted her as a dimwitted

"All little girls should be told they are pretty, even if they aren't."
She was pretty all right and graced the covers of thirty–three magazines in 1945. When her husband
returned from war in 1946, he found that there was no room for him and his wife divorced him in
Reno in June of 1946. That same year she began doing pin–up and cheesecake pictures for covers of
magazines. She had a photo session with Andre de Dienes and he asked Norma Jeane to marry him,
but she was recently divorced, free, and independent. Nevertheless, he got her on covers of major
magazines. Shortly after this, in July 1946, she got a short contract with Twentieth Century–Fox.
Then she changed her name to Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn for the musical star Marilyn Miller and

After six months of acting classes and dance lessons, she was finally told to report for work on a

The Great Depression By President Franklin D. Roosevelt Essay

Style Of Filmmaking In The Killing, By Stanley Kubrick
Stanley Kubrick is known for his distinct style of filmmaking in such films like "2001: A Space
Odyssey" and "A Clockwork Orange." While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from
Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking.
"The Killing" is a 1956 noir film and Kubrick's third feature film, and was produced by United
Artists with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the
first collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more
films. Unlike famous noir films like "Double Indemnity," "The Killing" did not become instantly
successful, but it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established
filmmaker in his later films. Like almost every Kubrick film, "The Killing" was based on another
material, and in this case, a 1955 low–budget novel titled "Clean Break" by crime novelist Lionel
White. The movie was adapted by hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also
credited, and when compared to the book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and
motivations. The movie does retain the non–linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover
to explain the time change. Between the two, the film did become more popular than the book,
especially when the book's title is often changed to "The Killing" in retrospect.

No answer. Not a good sign. I tried it again, "WHERE ARE YOU?" My voice echoed down Main

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I scanned the area, knowing all too well every dismal facet of this city.
Against the courthouse, a single, blue bicycle with its chain lying on the ground. In front of town
hall, a once lovely rose bed that was now a belligerent thorn bush. Across from the police station,
fourteen abandoned cars that had been gutted out. It's funny, I could have swore– RING! The rush
of newfound adrenaline found its way into my legs, and they jetted me to the only place in town that
had a bell on the front door. The dilapidated Mom and Pop shop had certainly seen its better days.
Its oldest residents were the spiders, whose generations of intricate webs lay in dusty rags. The
shelves were rusting, and were barely supporting what items hadn't already been looted. The
windows definitely had glass in them before, but there was not even a shard of proof on the rotting
plank floors anymore. The lichen had spiraled across the walls, socializing about my losing battle.
After yet another dead end, I continued to walk down this carpet of concrete, knowing it would soon
mold into a jungle of green. Every door hung by its last hinge, groaning with every gust of wind.
Each apartment building had a roof that had either altogether caved in, or looked like a depressing

The Styles Of Mirza Abu Taleb Khan And Lady Mary Wortley...
This creative writing piece will depict a travel narrative of my first day in New York City. In this
piece, I will be mimicking the styles of Mirza Abu Taleb Khan and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu.
Both writers use first hand impressions and vivid descriptions to inform and educate readers about
the cultures of the places they visited as well as how the people from those respective places behave
differently in comparison to where Montagu and Mirza Abu were from. They criticize the cultures
and behaviors for how different they are. However, they also work to convey what they found
remarkable because of those differences from their own countries of origin. This emphasis and
analysis on mannerisms, behavior, and culture reflect my own when I first stepped foot in New
York; I was confused by the mannerisms of the people in the city as well as how different it was
from my home back in Georgia. I hated it at first, yet I grew to understand and appreciate it by the
end of the day. It was an overwhelming concrete jungle that assaulted the senses. A cacophony of
noise bombarded my ears while a mélange of scents permeated the air. It's not nearly as quiet as it is
back home. Not even close. It was just as hot, that's not too different. But aside from that, there
wasn't much similarity from the little Georgian suburb I left behind. Even the Atlanta skyline, which
I had previously held in such high esteem, didn't hold a flame to the skyscrapers that seemed to kiss
the clouds. I'm certainly

The Impact Of Much Wildlife Is Dying Because Of Urbanization?
Have you ever wondered how much wildlife is dying because of urbanization? No, you probably
haven 't because although this is a very serious problem, not many people are talking about it.
Everyone believes that it is so great that we have all these new, high–tech buildings, but nobody
stops to think about how it is affecting the environment. Humans have caused irreparable damage so
we do not know what we will be able to salvage for future generations. Although our activities,
structures, and technologies improve our quality of life, they broadly influence local ecosystems and
the Earth 's supply of natural resources. Recently, there have been many new establishments

For example, when a building uses an unreliable water system, it drains and wastes the water from
lakes, rivers, and other water bodies. Buildings are responsible for not just a large percentage of the
world's water use, but a large percentage of wasted water as well. It is estimated that buildings use
13.6% of all potable water, which is around 15 trillion gallons of water per year. Buildings also use
41% of the world's energy. The two other highest energy consumers do not even come close to that
amount! A building's heating and cooling system, lighting system and outlet use all contribute to
determining how much energy is used.
When a structure is planning to be built, the area needs to be cleared so that the structure will have a
flat surface to be stand on. That piece of land may have been home to many important flowers, trees,
and grass. If there happened to previously be a different building standing there, that building would
have to be demolished. Building waste often includes concrete, metals, plastics, wood, glass, bricks,
asphalt and more. This type of waste is then disposed into either landfills or incinerators. Not to
mention the extreme methods of transportation that are required to transport such a huge load of
trash. Garbage like this can damage the wildlife and cause land and air pollution. There are not
many things in this world that money cannot buy, fresh air and beautiful scenery are just two of
them so we need to protect nature for as

only a year old. With her mother not being able to take care of her and not trace of her father, she
was quickly put into the foster care system. Marilyn was shunted from many different homes where
she was abused by one of the foster fathers. Those foster parents were named Albert and Ida
Bolender. Since Marilyn was thrown into many different
homes after that, she was never able to be in a home where she was truly able to feel as loved as a
child should. Many people would call her a "mistake" and say that she did not belong. Till
Marilyn was about seven years of age, she was tossed around different foster care homes and
orphanages. When Marilyn was sixteen, her foster family that she had been living with, had made
the decision to move away. To avoid going back into foster care Marilyn choose to get married to a
man that had been her neighbor, named James Dougherty. She became a housewife, but she found
that she was not happy and became very bored with life when her husband joined the Merchant
Marines in 1943 (Marilyn Monroe Biography).

A Star is Born: Marilyn Monroe Essay
A Star is Born: Marilyn Monroe
I was inspired to write about Marilyn Monroe because she seemed like she knew a lot about life and
everything she went through. She was a big movie star and she fought for what she believed in she
wanted a good part in movies but the directors always put her as a blonde and she had to be dumb
and she didn't like that. She didn't understand because she was intelligent and that is what they
thought of beautiful blonds back then. She was good at everything she did. People wanted to take an
advantage of her. But she was a good person that always got took for granted.

She was sex symbol and lots of men adored her and wanted to be with her. And loved her but people
took advantage of her and never wanted her to be happy. I think she was a good actress and her
husband ended up having a affair and just used her for the wrong reasons. She did have a hard life
and she wanted her dreams to come true. I mean don't everyone want their dreams to come true?
Not all the time only happens once in a lifetime.
Marilyn Monroe died over a Barbiturate overdose she was the sixth greatest female actress and
people classified it was a suicide and people were very hurt that she died because she was a good
person and she loved and believed in herself and she never understood why people took her the
wrong way. Maybe the things she put herself into and other reasons. I think it was a choice that she
wanted to be a sex symbol her career would have probably been better if she was not a sex symbol
people would have took her seriously. Someone said that beauty in not a curse its who you are and
thats counts. And I thought was amazing that is what something I would say because people wanted
to be just like her but nobody could ever be like her.
I would not ever think that if someone so beautiful and smart could be so wrong trying to follow her
dream then that person is wrong! I'm not one really to judge but if she wanted to live out her dream
and she fulfilled it. I loved her movies and it was really good that

The tragic heroine downfall began when she started experiencing drugs. Becoming a drug user was
the fatal mistake she made when everything in her world went upside down. She then became

Film Noir's Influence On American Films
After World War II, the American motion picture studios began releasing films shot in black and
white, with a high contrast style known as Film Noir. Though the roots of this style of film was
greatly influenced by the German Expressionist movement in film during the late 1910–early
1920's, and films that resembled this style were made prior to the war, including the early films by
Fritz Lang, a German director who fled Germany prior to the war to work in America, this film style
would become prevalent during the post WWII era. Besides the shadowed lighting style and the
psychologically expressive mise–en–scène, the film noir plot–lines often surrounded crime dramas
and were greatly influenced by the pulp fiction novels of the period by authors like Dashiell

The Horror Of The Vietnam War
Well Done
Since the Vietnam War was fought in Southeast Asia, it is difficult for many Americans to imagine
what the people of South Vietnam experienced during the Vietnam War. To better understand, the
American people had to rely on eye–witness accounts, film clips, and photographs. One photograph
in particular captures the horror of the Vietnam War. It is the image of Phan Phuc, a naked, nine–
year– old, South Vietnamese girl, taken on June 8, 1972, by Nick Ut. The photograph shows the
horrors of napalm, the emotionless soldiers, and photo–journalists, and children suffering.
Jets tear through the air over a green jungle in Vietnam. What is a beautiful, peaceful, thriving
jungle, with villages and families will soon be a charred ash pit with nothing but the lingering
feeling of what once was. As bombs drop and the liquid fire races through the jungle, everything in
its path is destroyed. Trees that have stood the test of time, burned–over. Resource providing plants
turned to ash. People's homes and everything they have, destroyed. They flee, screaming for their
lives. Mothers and fathers separated from their families. Children left to die in a burning jungle.
While some make it out, most are likely charred to crisp. Left homeless, with nowhere to go. Bodies
lie on the scorched jungle floor like burnt pines in a California wildfire. The smell of burnt flesh
burns your nostrils. Thick, black smog fills the air and begins to flatten out over the acreage. As if it

Rap Vs Poetry Essay
"When I first started rapping, me and a couple brothers would all sit around my place
freestyling while someone beat boxed. I even used to tell all the girls that I was a poet. They seemed
to find it a little more touching than a rapper" (Prince Paul, The Source 16) The lyrics of
rappers are very similar to the words of Black poets. It is argued as to wether or not rap is a viable
form of poetry.
Both discuss similar subjects, write in the same style and use the same type of language in their
writings. When looking at a poem or reading rap lyrics, distinguishing between the two can be
difficult, if not impossible. Both Black rappers and Black poets write about the same subjects. For

"If we don't build we'll be destroyed / Thats the challenge we face in this race of poor and

song "Brown Skin Woman" by KRS–1, are discussing the love for the "brown

poems about love and sex.
In the poem "My Brothers", Haki is sending a message to the other black males about

Water Cycle Is The Most Important Part Of Our Life
Water resource is the most important part of our life. Almost everything cannot leave with water.
From food to production, demand for water is growing. Water in different states constantly moves
and nourish all. Thus, recognizing the water cycle is vital and necessary for development and
Environmental Protection. Introduction Water cycle is also known as "hydrological cycle". It
describes the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. Water is
always changing states between liquid, vapor, and ice. Water cycle has been going on for billions of
years and all life on Earth is dependent on the water cycle. If there is no water cycle, the Earth
would be a lifeless place. There is no clear starting point of water cycle, but the ocean can be
counted as the beginning of it. The sun drives the entire water cycle. Water changes into water vapor
due to the rice of ocean temperature and then evaporates into the air. Freshwater lakes and rivers
have similar evaporated phenomenon. On land, water of transpiration from the plant and land also
change into steam and evaporate into the air. A small amount of water in the air from the sublime,
which is the direct evaporation of ice and snow and it is completely omitted from the melting
process. Updrafts carry water vapor into the atmosphere and water vapor condenses into a cloud due
to the low temperature of atmosphere. Airflow driven cloud to move around the Earth Cloud

Tree In The City Thomas Shapcott Summary
Good afternoon and welcome to Poetry Week. Today I will be talking to you about the topic of
urban life in Australian poetry. During this presentation, I will discuss the poem Tree in the City by
Thomas Shapcott and its representation of urban life. This will then be followed by how the poetic
devices of metaphor and imagery are used in the poem and finally, I will compare it to the taught
poem Phasing Out the Mangroves. I will start by looking at the poem called Tree in the City by
Thomas Shapcott and what is revealed about suburban life by it. Initially, the poem appears to be
depicting a positive outlook on suburban life, and its integration with nature, and having not lost the
connection to it that children have had for years. While remaining ambiguous in its ideas, upon
closer inspection, there are numerous occasions where the poet is insinuating how nature is fading
out as the buildings of urban life take over. As can be seen here (the screen) by the highlighted
words, the poem focuses on the restrictions and changes that urban life has made to nature, as well
as how important this fading element is. For example, "small span" refers to how the city branches

Although done in different ways, it can be seen clearly that both poems focus on the rapidly
increasing disappearance of nature in urban life. Shapcott's Tree in the City gives an ambiguous
approach to this topic, stating that however small, nature is still present and a prominent factor of
childhood, by giving examples of how children spend their time with the tree. On the other hand,
Adamson's Phasing Out the Mangroves paints a purely negative representation of the mangroves
being taken over by the "concrete geometries" of the city, replacing nature with the modern
technologies that we have come to live with today. Despite these differences, both poems are

Marilyn Monroe was born as Norma Jeane Mortenson on June 1, 1926. Marilyn never knew her

Film : Film Analysis Of The Sin City Film
The Sin City film was filmed by several directors led by Frank Miller. Robert Rodriguez and
Quentin Tarantino also took part in the work on the film. These two directors often collaborate
throughout their career, so this was not the first project they worked on in tandem. In this case, the
analysis of the directors' work should take into account the efforts of each of this triad because the
film comprises many elements of the author's style of each director. Like every provincial teenager
in America, Frank Miller adored comics since childhood. He moved to New York to work and
develop in the field of creating graphics. For some time Frank worked for such big companies as
Marvel and DC Comics, which gave him enough experience and skills to realize his own, unique
ideas. Later, "Miller re–read the old comics which had captivated his imagination as a child" (Pérez
275). The Sin City film is an adaptation of his eponymous graphic novel, which he created for
several years. For a long time, the director could not realize his plan and film his comic.
Nevertheless, he did not sell his author rights. Then he came to the aid of Robert Rodriguez, who
shot one of the trial fragments of the future film. "Sin City begins with a three–minute sequence
that is an aesthetic gem– arguably the finest segment of the film" (63). Miller was delighted with
what he saw, and they began to cooperate with Rodriguez. In turn, Rodriguez invited Quentin
Tarantino to take part in the shootings. Tarantino

Marilyn Monroe Theory Essay
Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn Monroe was all that we ever needed, an inspirational woman. Although she died over 50
years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962.
When Marilyn was born
Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin
Edward Mortenson.
Marilyn's Death
Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are
three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn's death was listed as a "probable
suicide," but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug
interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor
wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly
continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group
murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert
there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so
they could keep their reputation and their careers.
When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of "Diamonds are
a girl's best friend" from the movie "Gentleman prefer blondes." For many women back then and
especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She
was a role model.
Her Family Life
The Marilyn we all know and love isn't really Marilyn Monroe. Her real name is Norma Jean
Mortenson. She was the girl who had been helplessly abandoned to a number of foster homes by her
mother and never even knew her father. Norma survived being smothered when she was 2 and when
she was 6 she was nearly raped. Later in her life she lived in an LA orphanage, where she earned 5
cents every month for her work in the kitchen. With that money she was forced to give 1 cent to the
nearby church every week.
Her Relationships
Out of the many relationships Marilyn had, her first marriage was with James Dougherty. She was
married to him from 1942 and then in 1946 they divorced. Her second marriage was with Joe
DiMaggio from 1954 to 1955. Her

time of the 1800's and force Europe to implies Africa (Kerridge, n.p.). The word "imperialism"
means the period of colonization of Afri can and Asian countries by European states, the USA and
Japan in the 19th century, on the other hand it means an idea that was disseminated since the

countries thought to be the first race of the world (Hawkins, n.p.). With new creation such as new

A another resource that they made money off of was oil. This was use to paint, as shown in Kurtz's
paintings from the novella. ''Then I noticed a small sketch in oils, on a panel, representing a woman
draped and blindfolded carrying a lighted torch. The background was somber almost black. The
movement of the woman was stately and the effect of the torchlight was sinister" (Conrad, pp. 25)
According to Conrad's novel, one in many particular scratches Kurtz's sketch of a blindfolded
woman carrying a lighted torch was used painted with oils. The women represents Liberty and
Justice (Conrad, pp.25). While the torch and having her blindfolded represents seriously powerless
(Conrad, pp.25). In the "Heart of Darkness", Marlow discovers the oil painting in the
Station(Conrad, pp.25). Marlow attention towards the painting shows his intelligence of the artist's
name(Conrad, pp.25). It is because of the oil image that Marlow desire to get to know Kurtz
(Conrad, pp.26). After ivory and palm oil were discovered at the Congo then rubber was invented.

Marilyn Monroe Conspiracy Theory
Marilyn Monroe was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. Her first name was Norma
Jeane Mortensen, but she has gone by Marilyn Monroe since 1946. She ended up legally changing it
to Marilyn Monroe in 1956. Monroe's childhood was definitely a challenging and difficult one as
she was in foster care for most of it. She was sexually assaulted many times, and even said that she
was raped when she was only eleven years old. She later dropped out of school and married her
boyfriend, Jimmy Dougherty in 1942 at the age of only 16. Later on, Monroe became a model and
due to her career divorced Jimmy in 1946. Monroe later signed her first movie contract, but didn't
gain much attention until staring in the 1950s film, The Asphalt Jungle. Monroe ... Show more

There was no residue left inside her to think it was from the pills so it must have been from a lethal
injection. There are many theories to how Marilyn Monroe may have been murdered. Some people
think that Monroe's death was murder from John F. Kennedy and Bobby Kennedy, (with whom
Marilyn supposedly have had affairs with), saying that she knew too much about the Kennedy
family and that she was going to announce the secrets publicly to the world, and Bobby Kennedy
was in Los Angeles that weekend. Fred Otash claimed that he had bugged Marilyn Monroe's room
and had heard her screams as Bobby Kennedy suffocated her to death. The other theory is that the
Kenney's sent the mafia to go murder her. The last one was that Dr. Greenson, her doctor, overdosed
her not knowing that she was already on other medication. I later found out that the writer of the
article had no background information which led me to believe that he or she was a fraud. If it was
from lethal injection then why wasn't any needle marks found? I started to believe another theory
that Marilyn Monroe died by a dose of enema. Supposedly she was a fan of enema, but to perform
the enema dose there must have been another person to give the lethal dose to her. So people
believed it was her doctor, Dr. Greenson. I believed this, until I found out that the article was written
by an intern for the website history news network. Clearly, there is just not enough real evidence
and professional researchers/organizations to prove that Marilyn Monroe was

How Did Marilyn Monroe Impact The World

  • 1. How Did Marilyn Monroe Impact The World Could you imagine being one of the youngest fashion icons of your generation, willing to stand out so much that you had a dress sewn to you? Well Marilyn Monroe did (Life. Time Inc). Marilyn Monroe brought many great ideas of beauty to the 1960's era. Marilyn Monroe was also a major fashion icon. An everlasting impact was made in the 1960's through Marilyn Monroe's life, iconic style and beauty and she continues to be recognized for it even today. Marilyn Monroe's story is different than other well known celebrities. She didn't have a perfect childhood growing up which is one of the many things that helped her grow and become who she was. Marilyn Monroe had a very unique family situation. Growing up, Marilyn lived with only her mother, Gladys Baker, for a short time ("About Marilyn Monroe"). Edward Mortenson, the father of Marilyn Monroe had left her mother before Marilyn was born and Marilyn had never met him. Taking the place of Marilyn's absent father was her stepfather, Stanley ... Most people think of red swarovski crystal stiletto pumps when they think of Marilyn Monroe's signature shoe (Indulgy). Marilyn believed in accessorizing her outfits as much as possible and she did as much as she could. • 2. Mckibben End Of Nature When it comes to nature everyone has their own personal experience that either made them appreciate the worlds beauty a little more or transformed them from the inside out, yet humans have long been blamed for the destruction of everything wild. What is it about nature that William Mckibben describes in his book End of Nature which makes us "think of people as small and the world as large" and how did this change to where "the opposite has become the truth." (Mckibben XV) Humans have put their fingerprints all over the natural world and made it to where they demand control of it all, instead of nature demanding to control man. This inclination for humans to think they can make nature whatever they want it to be becomes an issue that must be tackled at a global scale, starting with each individual's treatment of nature. The end of nature predicted by Mckibben occurs when we ignore the warning signs that are glaring right at us, and choose to not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though we separated ourselves from nature in the attempt to salvage some beauty in the world we still "began to alter places where we were not," through by–products of our industrialized society. (Mckibben XX) Mckibben says "it is also true that we are apart of nature" (Mckibben XXI) while Cronon wants us to see that "wilderness is more a state of mind than a fact of nature." (Cronon 493) While Cronon wants humans to separate themselves from the wild, Mckibben asks us to confront nature head on. We are apart of it and"we possess the possibility of self–restraint" so we still have the means to stop abusing the natural order. In order to do this "we would need to change the ways we move ourselves around, the spaces we live in, the jobs we perform." I blame the scotch (no, I didn't drink as a child). I drink a lot of scotch nowadays and that could be a contributing factor. So I am going to start at the beginning and put things in place, but they may not be in the right order. But you won't know that, would you, you weren't there. I can pretty much put anything here and you will have no choice but to believe it. I will make you this promise: I will not lie to you. I may embellish, or down right just get it wrong, but I will not lie to you. I was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 24th, 1958. Family legend had it that my mother, a woman ... I'll stick with the plastic covered furniture, thank you. One of the more interesting aspect of our house is that we lived across the street from a cemetery. Ironically, this would not be the last time I did that. The house we lived in when the kids were born was right behind a Ukraine's church's cemetery. I'll get to that later. I don't remember the denomination of the church, but the cemetery must have been there for a long time. I remember seeing some of the gravestones with dates going back as far as the early 1700s. • 4. Disneyland History Disneyland 's History [pic] One day Walt Disney had a vision. It was a vision of a place where children and parents could have fun together. The more Walt dreamed of a "magical park," the more imaginative and elaborate it became. The original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the Burbank studios where his employees and families could go to relax. Although, World War II put those plans on hold. During the war, Walt had time to come up with new ideas, and creations for his magical park. It was soon clear that 8 acres wouldn 't be enough. Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100–acre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed space to build rivers, waterfalls, and mountains; he would have ... Fantasyland would feature a large Sleeping Beauty Castle, and a Fantasy Village. Tomorrowland was created as a look at the "marvels of the future." Walt said: "Tomorrow can be a wonderful age. Although, Walt had trouble working on Tommorrowland. He said that "right when we do Tommorrowland, it will be out dated." • 5. The Maltese Falcon Analysis Major Works The following list is a great start for those who want to read the classic hard–boiled stories that have defined what is meant by a hard boiled fiction. The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett. The Postman Always Rings Twice by James M Cain. It caused a scandal with its explosive mix of violence and sex. The torrid story of Frank Chambers, the amoral drifter, Cora, the sullen and brooding wife, and Nick Papadakis, the amiable but inconvenient husband, has become a classic of its kind, and established Cain as a major novelist with a spare and vital prose style and a bleak vision of America. Cain's another work Double Identity. Here, Walter Huff is an insurance investigator like any other until the day he meets the beautiful and dangerous Phyllis Nirdlinger and falls under her spell. Together they plot to kill her husband and split the insurance. Another writer Raymond Chandler's work The Long Goodbye deals about a down–and–out drunk Terry Lennox dying millionaire, Philip Marlowe to handle the blackmailer of one of his two troublesome daughters, Marlowe finds himself involved with more than extortion. Kidnapping, pornography, seduction, and murder are just a few of the complications he gets caught up in. Hammett's innovations were incorporated in the hard–boiled melodramas of James M. Cain (1892– 1977), particularly in such early works as The Postman Always Rings Twice (1934) and Double Indemnity (1936). Another successor was Raymond Chandler (1888–1959), whose ... • 12. Style Of Filmmaking In The Killing, By Stanley Kubrick Stanley Kubrick is known for his distinct style of filmmaking in such films like "2001: A Space Odyssey" and "A Clockwork Orange." While those films do showcase the sense of auteurship from Kubrick, his earlier works are more conventional when compared to the 1950s style of filmmaking. "The Killing" is a 1956 noir film and Kubrick's third feature film, and was produced by United Artists with a $200,000 investment and $320,000 budget from James B. Harris. This was also the first collaboration of producer James B. Harris and Kubrick, and would later on produce two more films. Unlike famous noir films like "Double Indemnity," "The Killing" did not become instantly successful, but it became more noteworthy in the retrospect as Kubrick became an established filmmaker in his later films. Like almost every Kubrick film, "The Killing" was based on another material, and in this case, a 1955 low–budget novel titled "Clean Break" by crime novelist Lionel White. The movie was adapted by hardboiled author Jim Thompson, in which Kubrick was also credited, and when compared to the book, Thompson did expand the roles of the characters and motivations. The movie does retain the non–linear structure of the book, and it also adds voiceover to explain the time change. • 17. The Styles Of Mirza Abu Taleb Khan And Lady Mary Wortley... This creative writing piece will depict a travel narrative of my first day in New York City. In this piece, I will be mimicking the styles of Mirza Abu Taleb Khan and Lady Mary Wortley Montagu. Both writers use first hand impressions and vivid descriptions to inform and educate readers about the cultures of the places they visited as well as how the people from those respective places behave differently in comparison to where Montagu and Mirza Abu were from. They criticize the cultures and behaviors for how different they are. However, they also work to convey what they found remarkable because of those differences from their own countries of origin. This emphasis and analysis on mannerisms, behavior, and culture reflect my own when I first stepped foot in New York; I was confused by the mannerisms of the people in the city as well as how different it was from my home back in Georgia. I hated it at first, yet I grew to understand and appreciate it by the end of the day. It was an overwhelming concrete jungle that assaulted the senses. A cacophony of noise bombarded my ears while a mélange of scents permeated the air. It's not nearly as quiet as it is back home. Not even close. It was just as hot, that's not too different. But aside from that, there wasn't much similarity from the little Georgian suburb I left behind. Buildings are responsible for not just a large percentage of the world's water use, but a large percentage of wasted water as well. It is estimated that buildings use 13.6% of all potable water, which is around 15 trillion gallons of water per year. Buildings also use 41% of the world's energy. The two other highest energy consumers do not even come close to that amount! A building's heating and cooling system, lighting system and outlet use all contribute to determining how much energy is used. When music was not the predominant programming, then sound quality was not as important to audiences, but as music came to rule the airwaves, FM radio drew in new listeners because of its high–fidelity sound ... • 25. The Horror Of The Vietnam War Well Done Since the Vietnam War was fought in Southeast Asia, it is difficult for many Americans to imagine what the people of South Vietnam experienced during the Vietnam War. To better understand, the American people had to rely on eye–witness accounts, film clips, and photographs. One photograph in particular captures the horror of the Vietnam War. It is the image of Phan Phuc, a naked, nine– year– old, South Vietnamese girl, taken on June 8, 1972, by Nick Ut. The photograph shows the horrors of napalm, the emotionless soldiers, and photo–journalists, and children suffering. Jets tear through the air over a green jungle in Vietnam. What is a beautiful, peaceful, thriving jungle, with villages and families will soon be a charred ash pit with nothing but the lingering feeling of what once was. As bombs drop and the liquid fire races through the jungle, everything in its path is destroyed. Trees that have stood the test of time, burned–over. Resource providing plants turned to ash. People's homes and everything they have, destroyed. They flee, screaming for their lives. Mothers and fathers separated from their families. Children left to die in a burning jungle. While some make it out, most are likely charred to crisp. Left homeless, with nowhere to go. Bodies lie on the scorched jungle floor like burnt pines in a California wildfire. The smell of burnt flesh burns your nostrils. Thick, black smog fills the air and begins to flatten out over the acreage. As if it is chasing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Robert Louv's Last Child In The Woods The days of making mud–pies, running around the neighborhood, getting poison ivy from exploring the river are dwindling down with the change in society and cultural values. Children of the millennial generation are encountering new issues defined by a term identified by Robert Louv in his book, Last Child in The Woods, as Nature Deficit Disorder (NDD). I even used to tell all the girls that I was a poet. They seemed to find it a little more touching than a rapper" (Prince Paul, The Source 16) The lyrics of rappers are very similar to the words of Black poets. It is argued as to wether or not rap is a viable form of poetry. Both discuss similar subjects, write in the same style and use the same type of language in their writings. The lyrics in the song "Brown Skin Woman" by KRS–1, are discussing the love for the "brown woman" and also sex with the "brown woman". Haki Madhubuti also writes his poems about love and sex. From food to production, demand for water is growing. Water in different states constantly moves and nourish all. Thus, recognizing the water cycle is vital and necessary for development and Environmental Protection. Introduction Water cycle is also known as "hydrological cycle". It describes the continuous movement of water on, above, and below the surface of the Earth. Water is always changing states between liquid, vapor, and ice. Water cycle has been going on for billions of years and all life on Earth is dependent on the water cycle. If there is no water cycle, the Earth would be a lifeless place. There is no clear starting point of water cycle, but the ocean can be counted as the beginning of it. The sun drives the entire water cycle. Water changes into water vapor due to the rice of ocean temperature and then evaporates into the air. Freshwater lakes and rivers have similar evaporated phenomenon. On land, water of transpiration from the plant and land also change into steam and evaporate into the air. A small amount of water in the air from the sublime, which is the direct evaporation of ice and snow and it is completely omitted from the melting process. During this presentation, I will discuss the poem Tree in the City by Thomas Shapcott and its representation of urban life. This will then be followed by how the poetic devices of metaphor and imagery are used in the poem and finally, I will compare it to the taught poem Phasing Out the Mangroves. I will start by looking at the poem called Tree in the City by Thomas Shapcott and what is revealed about suburban life by it. Initially, the poem appears to be depicting a positive outlook on suburban life, and its integration with nature, and having not lost the connection to it that children have had for years. While remaining ambiguous in its ideas, upon closer inspection, there are numerous occasions where the poet is insinuating how nature is fading out as the buildings of urban life take over. As can be seen here (the screen) by the highlighted words, the poem focuses on the restrictions and changes that urban life has made to nature, as well as how important this fading element is. For example, "small span" refers to how the city branches of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Shapcott's Tree in the City gives an ambiguous approach to this topic, stating that however small, nature is still present and a prominent factor of childhood, by giving examples of how children spend their time with the tree. On the other hand, Adamson's Phasing Out the Mangroves paints a purely negative representation of the mangroves being taken over by the "concrete geometries" of the city, replacing nature with the modern technologies that we have come to live with today. • 36. Film : Film Analysis Of The Sin City Film The Sin City film was filmed by several directors led by Frank Miller. Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino also took part in the work on the film. These two directors often collaborate throughout their career, so this was not the first project they worked on in tandem. In this case, the analysis of the directors' work should take into account the efforts of each of this triad because the film comprises many elements of the author's style of each director. Like every provincial teenager in America, Frank Miller adored comics since childhood. He moved to New York to work and develop in the field of creating graphics. For some time Frank worked for such big companies as Marvel and DC Comics, which gave him enough experience and skills to realize his own, unique ideas. Later, "Miller re–read the old comics which had captivated his imagination as a child" (Pérez 275). The Sin City film is an adaptation of his eponymous graphic novel, which he created for several years. For a long time, the director could not realize his plan and film his comic. Nevertheless, he did not sell his author rights. Then he came to the aid of Robert Rodriguez, who shot one of the trial fragments of the future film. "Sin City begins with a three–minute sequence that is an aesthetic gem– arguably the finest segment of the film" (63). • 38. Marilyn Monroe Theory Essay Marilyn Monroe Marilyn Monroe was all that we ever needed, an inspirational woman. Although she died over 50 years ago, she is still as much as a role model to what she was to young women in 1962. When Marilyn was born Marilyn was born on the 1st of June 1926. Her mother was Gladys Baker and her father was Martin Edward Mortenson. Marilyn's Death Marilyn died on the 5th of August 1962. It was unsure about how she died. Because of that there are three theories. The first theory is suicide. The cause of Marilyn's death was listed as a "probable suicide," but they never managed to find a suicide note. The second theory is Accidental drug interaction. It is said that she had developed an addiction to Nembutal so she chose to let her doctor wear her off the medication by switching to chloral hydrate but some people think that she secretly continued taking Nembutal. The third theory is murder. It suggests that an individual or group murdered her to keep her silence as when she met president John.F.Kennedy and his brother Robert there were rumours of them both having affairs with Marilyn, so they payed someone to kill her so they could keep their reputation and their careers. When you think of Marilyn Monroe you might think of her enticing performance of "Diamonds are a girl's best friend" from the movie "Gentleman prefer blondes." For many women back then and especially today she is much more than the dumb blondes she played in most of her movies. She was a role model. Her Family Life The Marilyn we all know and love isn't really Marilyn Monroe. Her real name is Norma Jean Mortenson. She was the girl who had been helplessly abandoned to a number of foster homes by her mother and never even knew her father. Norma survived being smothered when she was 2 and when she was 6 she was nearly raped. Later in her life she lived in an LA orphanage, where she earned 5 cents every month for her work in the kitchen. With that money she was forced to give 1 cent to the nearby church every week. Her Relationships Out of the many relationships Marilyn had, her first marriage was with James Dougherty. She was married to him from 1942 and then in 1946 they divorced.
