Stars - Columbia
• Columbia, First signed to Columbia in
2002. Just before their first full album was
to be released they were dropped. The
band had traction on MySpace and this
kept the band together. Then then signed
to Mosley Music Group.
3. Arctic Monkeys
• They signed to Domino records in 2005.
unlike other bands they have not signed to
a bigger label. They like the “DIY” element
of the label and the producer Laurence
Bell. Franz Ferdinand also signed to
Domino
4. Bastille – Pompeii - Virgin
• In December 2010 they signed to Virgin
Records (Part of EMI). Before that they
released a 7” which only sold 300 copies
through an independent record label.
5. The Kooks – Virgin Records
• The Kooks signed to Virgin Records in
2005 after being together for only 4
months. The soon released their first
album Inside In/Inside Out. Virgin records
is part of EMI, who are associated with
rock bands. So this signing makes sense
as they are one of the more rocky indie
rock groups.
6. EMI
• EMI is one of the largest and most
successful record labels.
• They have artist signed to them such as:
Katy Perry, Pink Floyd, Corinne Bailey
Rae, Sir Simon Rattle, Snoop Dogg, The
Beatles, Beastie Boys, LukeBryan and
Coldplay.
7. Universal Music Group
• Is the largest record company, they are
vertically integrated so they deal with with
signing the artist, making the music and
making and running the ads. They also sell
merch for most of the people they have
signed.
• People who they have signed include: Mariah
Carey, JustinBieber, Nicki Minaj, Adele, Taio
Cruz, Cheryl Cole and Mumford and Sons.
