there is mercy. Eph. 2:4
2. We can have victory over guilt if we…
a. Confess our sin and our faith in
Jesus. 1 John 1:9; Rom. 10:9-10
b. Confession of sin is a part of
individual and corporate worship.
i. At the Jordan John’s followers were baptized, confessing
their sins (Matthew 3:6; Mark 1:5).
ii. Today we are encouraged to confess our sins to one
another. James 5:16
c. We can be released from the guilt of sin by coming to the Lord
and trusting in His mercy. Hebrews 11:6; James 1:6
Relying and Trusting the Blood!
I. Jesus, Our Priest – Hebrews 7
a. A Perpetual Priest… 18-21
b. The Law was weak and useless in many ways. Heb. 7:18; Gal.
4:9; Rom. 8:3
c. Law is holy and good… Romans 7:12
i. Yet it was only temporary, as a schoolmaster Gal. 3:21-
25; 2 Cor. 3:7
ii. Good it could do… Convict of sin… Rom. 3:20
d. Unable to make right for those who sin. Hebrews 10:1-4
i. The old law could not secure from death Hebrews 2:14-
15
ii. It could not perfect us. Heb 7:11; 10:1
e. We have hope in Christ! 1 Timothy 1:1
i. He brings us into the presence of God. Heb. 10:19-22
ii. He’s the hope of salvation and pardon. 1 Thes. 5:9;
1 Cor. 1:30
iii. Hope from a sworn oath by God. Heb. 7:20-21

2. II. Jesus, The Perpetual Intercessor: Hebrews 7:22-28
a. He is our Guarantor. Heb. 6:17-20
i. Through Him we have a better covenant, the gospel! Heb.
7:22
1. It makes right through His sacrifice Heb. 7:27
2. It perfects through His sacrifice Heb. 9:14-15
ii. He intercedes always. Heb. 7:25
1. He promises mercy Heb. 4:16; Jude 21
2. His blood cleanses us from guilt Heb. 9:9; 10:2, 22
iii. He meets our needs. Phil. 4:19
1. Our need of pardon for what
we owed.
2. Our need of salvation
Eph. 1:7
3. Rescues us from the
consequences of sin –
eternal punishment. 1 John 2:25
Application:
The life in Christ depends on our obedience to Christ and faith in His
precious blood. Hebrews 5:9; 1 Peter 1:17-25
1. Have the right mindset. Hate sin, and do not take it lightly!
1 Thessalonians. 5:22
2. Confess your sins. Confession leads to pardon. 1 Jn. 1:9
3. Seek prayers from the saints. James 5:16
4. Trust in Jesus’ sin cleansing blood. Rev. 1:5
5. Always remember Acts 8:22! Trust God that He will forgive you
when you repent and confess your sins.
