– One’s conscience is not always reliable.

– Our conscience is like a clock, which works
properly only if set properly.

– “Everyone else is doing it”
– Listen to Jesus describing the end of the majority…

– Following the majority can be like the blind
leading the blind. Luke 6:39

– “The preacher (priest, rabbi, etc.) says its okay”
– The Bible warns us, showing that religious leaders can be
“blind leaders of the blind” Mt. 15:12-14
– They can be ministers of Satan. 2 Cor. 11:13-15
– There are false teachers with destructive ways. 2 Pet. 3:1-3
– Following the wrong minister can lead you to destruction!
7. The Christian’s Authority
In Morality
• Jesus has ALL authority. Mt. 28:18
– In all areas including sexual morals and behavior.
Ephesians 4:17-24
– He will one day judge all of mankind. Acts 17:30-31
– The standard of judgment will be His words!
John 12:48
– Jesus IS the ultimate standard of authority in
morality.

In Morality
• Jesus delegated authority to His apostles…
– To receive them is to receive Him. Mt. 10:40; Jn. 13:20
– They were sent as ambassadors for Christ. 2 Cor. 5:20
– To ensure reliability Jesus sent them the Holy Spirit.
John 14:26; 16:12-13
– They proclaimed the whole counsel of God. Acts 20:27
– Christians are to accept the apostles words as truth.
1 Corinthians 14:37; Acts 2:42

• Jesus delegated authority to His apostles…
– Their authority pertains to areas of morality.
– As Paul charged in 1 Thessalonians 4:1-8…
• Addressed sexual immorality and marital
faithfulness
– He likewise wrote to those in Ephesus. Eph. 4:17-32
• Addressing lewdness, greediness, and deceitful
lusts, lying anger, stealing, foul language…
– Morality is an integral part of the truth that is in Jesus.
10. The Truth In Jesus Is
The Authority of Morality
• You don’t have to go through life
confused about morality.
• The Christian need not be confused about
morality. Ephesians 4:21
• God has given all things that pertain to life
and godliness. 2 Peter 1:3
• If you are looking for truth as it pertains to
morality, let Jesus and His apostles be your
guide. John 14:6
