Sesshu Toyo Research Paper
In many Chinese paintings bear inscriptions, texts written on the same surface as the picture, or
colophons, texts written on attached pieces of paper or silk. Calligraphy and painting have always
been closely related but China held calligraphy much higher than painting. A long tradition ties all
the pictures and poetry together. Many artists added seal impressions in redin to identify themselves.
No other Chinese form of art has such a worldwide admiration as porcelain. Artists often decorated
ceramics, such as porcelain in colored designs or pictures, working with finely ground minerals
suspended in water and a binding agent. Chinese used lacquer, made from the sap of a Asiatic sumac
tree, to cover wood. The Asiatic sumac tree is native to central and southern China. When the
lacquer dries it prevents wood from decaying. China is one of the world's great economic powers. ...

During that time, gardens played a major role in Zen Buddhist monasteries. Zen followers hoped to
accomplish enlightenment. Many Zen schools taught that meditation is a long–term practice that led
to enlightenment. Few Japanese artists traveled to China to study their art or architecture. Sesshu
Toyo was one who studied on the mainland. His work included that Splash–Ink style, a technique in
touch with Chinese roots. The Japanese also carried the traditional tea ceremony all the way from
China. The practice spread to other social groups. During the Edo period, woodblock prints became
a trend. People with a steady income would collect the prints and paste the works to their walls. The
blocks were planks of fine–grained hardwood, mainly cherry. In the post WWII period, many

How Did Egypt Affect Its Economy
1. Egyptian survivals and flourishing economy were dependent on agriculture. Agriculture provided
rich and bountiful resources. Abundance relied on their river. The positives are the earl farmers grew
crops, raised farm animals, and hunted birds and fish to supplement their diet. The negatives were
when the eaters were too high or too low, severe food shortages occurred.
2. The crops that were grown in Egypt were wheat, barley, red and white grape vineyards. We have
adopted all of the crops native to Egypt. If we didn't adopt crops from other places, our agriculture
economy would be lacking because wheat and barely play a large role in our daily diet. The
vineyards help ferment wine, which is very abundant in North America. I'm not sure exactly ...

Africa's arts and crafts had finely molded pottery, elephant masks called Mukenga. The difference of
this elephant mask is that is symbolizes power and leadership. It can relate to elephant hunting.
Another craft they have are headdresses. Theirs contain scales that represent ritual importance and
symbolize power, family, and knowledge. Asia also has pottery but theirs is mostly glazed. An art
they have is the helmet, or kabuto. The kabuto disguised samurais and protected their heads and
necks. The kabuto is also used for intimidation and symbolizes longevity. Another art would be the
Buddah sculpture. Each Buddah displays symbolic gestures such as raising their right hand; which
means reassurance. When the Buddah is raising their left hand, they are giving a blessing. Lastly,
Europe also has pottery but is often made with a frosted glass. They aren't very symbolic and mainly
concentrate more on intricate designs. For example, there is a fan and case, which are hand–carved
with fine point needle stitches enhancing an array of floral

Fast Food Controversy Issues In Today's World
One of the most controversial discussions in today's world is concerned with hobby issues. A variety
of foods and drinks belong to indiscreet and fundamental parts of every ceremony and party.
Without any doubt, all the people all around the world with the different cultures, at least, like and
are interested in a certain kind of foods and drinks that most of them are local ones. Since I moved
to Canada I have been into and tried fast foods like KFC, white spot and of course McDonalds. They
sound pretty good, but homemade Persian foods are something else. In Iran, there aren't many
people eating fast food, although there are few popular fast food places in Tehbhhran, but they are
not often very crowded. In Iran, there are 31 provinces and each ... Show more content on

I haven't seen any Persian restaurants that don't serve this food. Kabab koobideh, Kabab means
"cooking on fire" and koobideh is the style that meat was prepared, Kabab koobideh is grilled on

saffron), accompanied by grilled tomatoes. Sumac is usually served as a tableside garnishing spice

the kind of meat that consumes fat. Koobideh consumes only a few ingredients made up of grated
onion, ground beef, pepper and salt ("Turmeric & Saffron: Kabab Koobideh – Persian Grilled
Ground Lamb On Skewers") [3]. One Optional thing you can do is to add a tablespoon of saffron,
sumac, turmeric but It totally depends on individual's preference and tastes. I'm not a big fan of
using (joosh–e shirin) which in English is baking soda in cooking, but a few times I have taken my
friend's advice and added a teaspoon of baking soda to tenderize the meat mixture and I liked the
result. The best thing to do is to buy your meat on the same day that you are going to grill it, but if
you like to shop a day before that's totally fine but you have to prepare the mixture and put in the
refrigerator to keep fresh. Kababs are always served with grilled tomato, if you don't like tomatoes

Their wings are long, but the legs and tails are reasonably short. The beak is short and straight. The
males are vivid blue on top and brick–red on the throat and breast, while the females are grayish on
top with bluish wings and tail and a subtle orange–brown breast. Eastern Bluebirds measure to about
6.3–8.3 inches. The Eastern bluebird usually lives in in open country around trees, but with little

A Girl's Story By David Arnason Analysis
Appearance versus reality in David Arnason's "A Girl's Story" Self reflexive writing is a method
used by authors where they write about writing. It is often an abstract concept, and the way that
David Arnason uses it in his narrative "A Girl's Story" adds a unique perception to the story.
Throughout the story it is made clear that, at times, things may be entirely different than they appear
to be at first glance, and how, in general, meanings are not absolute. The piece of writing "A Girl's
Story" is a story about a writer, writing a story about a girl who is having problems with her fiancé
as she feels unfulfilled. It is supposed to be a somewhat cliché short story, as the writer even
acknowledges that himself. He does this by stating why he made various decisions when
constructing the main character such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This story is self reflexive, because the author writes about the process he used to write what
eventually became "A Girl's story." He also includes the story he wrote in the story, as well as his
own experiences while writing it, so as a result, two separate storylines are created. In the storyline
of the girl, the author describes the scenery at the side of the river. He adds many details about the
scenery such as "Under the innocent sheen of the mirroring surface, the current is treacherous." and
"The undergrowth too, is thick and green, hiding the poison ivy, the poison sumac and the thorns."
(A Girl's Story) These details may suggest events to come in the future of the story. The author
acknowledges the details he has written by saying "I slipped a lot of details in there and provided all
those hints about strange and dangerous things under the surface. That's called foreshadowing" (A
Girl's Story) In the literal sense this paragraph is an example of appearance versus reality, as stated
by the author

Native American Basketry History
Native American is the most widespread art developed of basketry. Basketry is weaving or sewing
pliable materials into two– or three dimensional artifacts, like mats or containers. Craftspeople and
artists specialised in making baskets are usually referred to as basket makers and basket
weavers. The oldest known baskets have been carbon dated to between 10,000 and 12,000 years old,
earlier than any established dates for archaeological finds of pottery, and were discovered in Fayum
in upper Egypt. Other baskets have been discovered in the Middle East that are up to 7,000 years
old. They traditionally make their baskets from the materials available locally. Arctic and Subarctic

Tijuana River Wetlands
Background: Geology The Tijuana National Estuarine Research Reserve, administered by the U. S.
Fish and Wildlife Service and California Department of Parks and Recreation, is the southwestern
most nature reserve in the continental United States. It is bordered by Mexico and the city of Tijuana
on the south, the Pacific Ocean on the west, the city of Imperial Beach (the southwestern most city
in the continental U.S.), the U.S. Navy Auxiliary Landing Field on the north, and South San Diego
on the East. The estuary itself extends well into Mexico. The Tijuana River drains a watershed of
1,735 square miles. Three–fourths of this watershed is in Mexico. The reserve is located on 2,500
acres of wetlands and coastal dunes. Of these acres, 1,660 are uplands, 120 are non–tidal fresh water

geologic development since the late Cenozoic Era, approximately 65 million years ago (Schoenherr,
59). As continental drift carried the North American continent westward, tectonic uplift raised the
shore line several hundred feet above the current sea levels. Over time, the river wore through the
uplifted terraces, though the narrowness of the floodplain indicates that the flow was generally not
large. In the Holocene Epoch(200,000 years ago), as the polar caps melted and the sea rose, the
exposed continental shelf was reclaimed by the ocean. As the ocean waters rose, rivers were covered
and lagoons were formed as sandy barriers formed deposited by long shore drift

Iranians clean and rearrange their homes. They make new clothes, bake pastries and germinate seeds

The origins of NOROOZ are unknown, but they go back several thousand years predating the
Achaemenian Dynasty. The ancient Iranians had a festival called "Farvardgan" which lasted ten
days, and took place at the end of the solar year. It appears that this was a festival of sorrow and
mourning, signifying the end of life while the festival of Norooz, at the beginning of spring signified
rebirth, and was a time of great joy and celebration
The other ancient symbolic representation of NOROOZ is based around the idea of the triumph of
good over evil. According to the Shah–nameh (The Book of Kings), the national Iranian epic by
Ferdowsi, NOROOZ came into being during the reign of the mythical King Jamshid; when he
defeated the evil demons (divs) seizing their treasures, becoming master of everything but the

The Search For The Magic Lake
"The Search for the Magic Lake" is a folktale from Ecuador that takes place during the Inca Empire
(Cole 767). The story starts by explaining that the emperor's son is sick and nothing has been able to
cure him. Distraught, the emperor goes to a priest and asks what can be done to save his child. The
priest tells him that the only thing that can cure the child is water from a magic lake at the end of the
world. The king is too old to make the journey himself so he offers a reward to anyone that can
bring him the water. One family hears about the reward and the two oldest brothers decide to go on
the quest but their father tells them that they need to return by harvest time, the brothers promise and
go on their way. Much later the brothers realize that they won't be able to find the lake in time but
they still want the reward so they take water from a random lake and deliver that to their king (Cole
768). The king immediately gives the water to his son but it has no effect. The king goes to a
magician and asks why the water isn't working, the magician reveals that the king has been deceived
by the brothers and the king becomes outraged and sentences the brothers to prison. When the
family finds out about this the youngest daughter, Sumac, offers to go look for the magic lake in
hopes that if she can bring back the water, she can convince the king to free them. With no other
option the family sends her to find the water (Cole 769). Two days into her search a few

Dumas was comfortable with her new name; her peers finally accepted her as an American. All was

her so well that her peers had no clue about her ethnic identity. This gave her the ability to see right

Herbal Medicine In Native American Medicine
Advanced medicine has it's advantages, but the medicine today mimics the characteristics of plants
used to help people way before man–made treatments. Herbal remedies don't have many of the side
effects drugs have today. Looking into the roots of herbal medicine can make modern medicine
more effective, safer, and healthier for generations to come. Native Americans before they were
exposed to modern medicine and technology, only relied on plant based medicine. The Sumac tree
was used often in Native American culture for both food and health remedies. The Sumac is native
to temperate and subtropical zones and it was grown in North America. It was seen as a sacred plant
that helped improve the lives of the Native Americans. The parts that were usually used were the
root bark, leaves, and berries ("Herbal Medicine"). Sumac was very versatile in that it helped with
many health issues the Native Americans often faced. The active properties the plant contained were
Calcium malate, Dehydro Fisetin, Fisetin, Iodine, Gallic–acid–methyl ester, tannic and gallic acids,
Selenium, and Tartaric–acid (Jackson, Deb, and Karen Bergeron. "Sumac (Rhus Glabra)" ). Usually
the infusion of the bark and roots held most of these helpful qualities. The mixture itself acted as an
astringent, antiseptic, alterative, and a tonic ("Sumac") . The berries on the other hand are used
mainly for bowel complaints.
Regular health issues Native Americans faced included diarrhea, sore throat, rashes, and

Research Paper On Costco
Costco may have awesome pizza, happy employees and heaps of cheap, wholesale products, but
they also sell poison. That's right, amongst the miles of shelf space selling your favorite goods are
pockets of poison. Here are five to look out for. 1.TOMATOES AT COSTCO That's right,
everyone's favorite pasta sauce comes from poison. As a member of the nightshade family, tomatoes
have glycoalkaloids. These are natural pesticides produced by nightshades and are known to be
toxic. By studying mice, it would take 227 mg of the toxin per pound to create a lethal dose. Seeing
as there are 2.3 mg/lb of toxin in a ripe tomato, it would take 15,000 pounds of tomatoes to kill a
150–pound mouse. 2. POTATOES Also, a member of the nightshade family, potatoes ... Show more

The cashew is not a real nut. True nuts, like hazelnuts, from a hard wall around the seed. Not
Cashews. Cashews have a lining around the seed that is filled with a toxic fluid. This is the same
fluid found in poison ivy and sumac, which are relatives of the cashew. Costco probably doesn't sell
shelled cashews, but be on the lookout just in case. 4. ALMONDS Yes, even this supposed
"superfood" can cause us harm. Like cashews, almonds are not nuts. They are seeds. If they are not
introduced to some kind of heat source, almonds are extremely poisonous. These seeds are chock
full of cyanide. For this reason, many countries make it illegal to sell almonds that have not been
processed. Check the label at Costco and most likely, you will find that they have been heat treated.
5. APPLES They say an apple a day will keep the doctor away, but actually, it might bring you two
closer than you'd like. Technically, this fruit you can find at Costco and any supermarket is not bad
for you. It's the seeds that contain ridiculous amounts of poison. Just the seeds from one apple won't

Nacl Environmental Impact
Enviornmental Impact and Financial Burden Chloride deicing agents are the most commonly used
freezing point depression agents. NaCl is the most commonly used because the low cost and high
attainability. Studies have shown that different salts are more effective depending on circumstance
(Warrington, 1998). The largest environmental impact seems to stem from the misuse of different
deicers and can have detrimental effects on the surrounding environment including vegetation,
wildlife, and soil (Buckler and Granato, 1999). The most quantifiable impact is that of the cations
and anions into drinking water and the degradation observed of the environment in the area
surrounding the misused deicers (Bryson and Barker, 2002). Bryson and Barker (2002) ... Show

The first factor was in regards to the actual effectiveness of the deicer by examining freezing point
depression and enthalpy of dissolution. In order to examine freezing point depression, different
amount of NaCl were added to water and the change in temperature was measured. The results
showed that as the amount of solute increased, so did the change in temperature. Enthalpy of
dissolution was also examined in an attempt to find whether or not the reaction between a deicing
agent and water would be endothermic or exothermic. NaCl and KCl were both found to be
endothermic, while CaCl2 and MgCl2 were found to be exothermic. Based on the ability to depress
freezing point, and the exothermic reactivity, MgCl2 was found to be the most effective deicing
agent. Impact on the environment was also examined. Although all Chloride based deicing
compounds are detrimental to the environment, much of the problem stems from the amount of
cations which seep into the surrounding area. Under the preceding notion, MgCl2 was found to be
the most environmental friendly as it holds the greatest potential for freezing point depression and
exothermic reactivity amongst the compounds examined. This means that for every one unit of
MgCl2 used, significantly more units of another compound would be necessary. But, due to factors
such as humidity, MgCl2 and CaCl2 are not the choice by state officials as they have potential to

Moving cities is hard enough but picking up your family and leaving the only country you have ever
known to go to a continent where you do not speak the language or understand the customs has to be
completely mind boggling. The novel The Poisonwood Bible opens with Orleanna Price describing
the sensory input of the Congolese Jungle. As a reader her description allows you to close your eyes
and see the Congolese Jungle as if you are there walking through it too. The Congolese Jungle
sounds like an unforgiving place which adds a suspenseful sense to the already questionable

Alternative Medicine should be considered as effective as prescription and Over–The–Counter drugs
because it is natural, can help prevent sickness, helps spiritually and emotionally, helps block

example Native Americans use different herbs like Comfrey and Wintergreen, also plants like Aloe

Another alternative way is using crystals to heal, it is a clear crystal that sums up clouds and then it
will have to be dipped in salt water to get clear. It helps collect unwanted energy. They also do a

American Economy", people spend about 7 million dollars in Halloween, looking for costumes,
decoration objects, and also in haunted houses. People enjoy scary movies, roller coasters, and
haunted houses. Similarly, people enjoy thrilling literature, as Edgar Allan Poe and Louise Erdrich
poems, "The Raven" and "The windigo" respectively. Both of these authors write and explore death
and the ambiguity of what will happen after death, by using concrete examples of imagery and
symbols, structured paragraphs, and a certain type of diction.
In Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven", the use of imagery and symbolism are one of the main
characteristics of this poem, which makes the reader continually follow the development of the
poem. The most outstanding example of symbolism is the Raven itself, this bird represents death,
the darkness that keeps reminding in his life, after the loss of his loved one Lenore, the bird standing
there by his side, is a representation of questions that he makes about life and

Buttonwood provides food and cover for wildlife such as the white ibis and stone crabs. There are
two main types of Buttonwood; they are primarily identified by the appearance of their leaves, green

Poison ivy is a North American climbing plant of the cashew family that secretes an irritant oil from
its leaves, which can cause dermatitis. Poison ivy is also closely related to mangos, and it's a
member of the tropical cashew family. Poison ivy dates back to the 1600s in North America. It is
found in all of the U.S. except for the states of California, Alaska, and Hawaii. Also it can be found
in southern Canada except for the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador. Poison grows mostly

Washing your hands does not always help though and can make the problem even worse. It can
make it worse by spreading it and making the affected area worse. They have creams and ointments
that you can use to reduce the irritation and the scratching on the skin to help with the rash such as
calamine lotion but it only temporarily stops the itching and it can not cure the poison ivy rash. Also,
some people are allergic to the creams and ointments so they have to get a shot. Although you can
spread the rash by scratching, it is very hard because typically when the oil sinks into your skin it is
very difficult to make it spread on your skin. Even if you have blisters, it will not spread as easily
and it is very unlikely. If it seems like the rash is spreading it is probably still because your body
may still be reacting to the first exposure or you have touched an object exposed to the oil. You can
spread poison ivy on your skin by washing your hands. On occasion, normal soap and water can
cause the oil to spread making the affected area larger than it was before. This is because the

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Firoozeh Dumas 'The F Word'
Immigrants moving to America acknowledge the difficulties they may face but do not realize how
society's opinion becomes a major obstacle for social acceptance. In 2003, the excerpt The "F
Word", from Firoozeh Dumas' Funny in Farsi: A Memoir of Growing Up Iranian in America, was
published by Penguin Random House. The "F Word" narrates the discrimination Firoozeh
experiences throughout her childhood which follows her into adulthood. An analysis of Dumas'
excerpt depicts the elements of style such as figurative language, tone, and rhetorical appeals.
Dumas uses figurative language throughout the excerpt which represents the vast amount of
discrimination she experienced. Throughout the excerpt, Dumas uses various metaphors, and similes
to portray her life as an immigrant in the United States. In her fourth paragraph, Dumas states "It's
like adding a few new spices to the kitchen pantry. Move over, cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for
cardamom and sumac." The spice cabinet Dumas is referring to is a representation of society which
have a close minded view on immigrants. The spices cardamom and sumac are spices rarely used by
individuals, so people tend to stay away from them because they are so uncommon. Dumas is able

How Does Tim O Brien Use Imagery In On The Rainy River
In the short story "On the Rainy River" by Tim O'Brien he has a way of portraying certain events
with great imagery. He uses this imagery to affect the overall tone of the story. O'Brien shows
examples of this from receiving his draft letter, his place of work, and describing what he sees
throughout his journeys. The day that O'Brien got his draft letter helps to set the tone in the
beginning. One example come from the quote "The draft notice arrived on June 17, 1968. It was a
humid afternoon, I remember, cloudy and very quiet, and I'd just come in from a round of golf. My
mother and father were having lunch out in the kitchen." I see this as the last normal day the
character had before his life went up. The way that he says I remember" shows how this was a
moment that he would not forget anytime soon if ever. A little farther in the story from this quote he
talk about how he thinks that he is too good to go to war. I think that this part of the story sets the
tone for his arrogance and frustration. One can see that how he reacted is a big sign of arrogance
beginning in this story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Toxic White Oak Acorn
Research Question: What is the difference in endophytes between a toxic white oak, acorn, and a
non toxic, chinese chestnut?
Our research may be of interest to someone interested in genetically modifying an organism to
exhibit toxic compounds similar to the acorn, so that pests are less likely to eat the crop.
Seedlings grown in the toxic endophytes were more tolerant to the budworms than the seedlings
who were not grown in the etoxic medium, as studied in the experiment cited at the bottom. (Miller,
2014) So a correlation between toxic endophytes and reduced amounts of spruce budworms eating
the plant was found. Thus with our research the toxic endophytes which protect the acorns of the

Poison Ivy Monologue
Poison Ivy
May 15, 2012 at 10:17pm
Poison Ivy by Sydney J. Tanner When I was 19, I was attending Utah State University, in Logan
Utah. I lived in a beautiful canyon in the mountains and went hiking and camping a lot. One
camping trip, being a bit naive and inexperienced I "wiped" with the nearest green leaf I could find.
What followed was an excruciating lesson never to be forgotten. Not being from Utah, I had never
seen or been around poison ivy before. Later that fall, I was on a committee decorating for an
autumn formal dance. I gathered interesting and colorful vines and "weeds" to make thirteen large
wreaths for the walls. After I hung the last wreath for the dance that evening, I realized something
dreadful. Gee, poison ivy changes color in the fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berries white, run in fright." The old adage still stands. As a Wisconsin Master Gardener, I share my
embarrassing story with you for a reason. Some people still don't know what poison ivy looks like.
When I tell this story, I get to hear other people's awkward tales of adventure in the ivy. They range
from honeymoon disasters, to children playing tag in it, to beloved pets rolling in it and then
jumping into bed with their masters that evening. Poison Ivy (Taxicodendron radicans, also called
Rhus radicans) is a member of the Anacardiaceae family (Sumac/Cashew) and is a native woody
plant in Wisconsin. It is considered a noxious weed. It spreads both vegetatively and sexually. The
seeds are spread by animal feces. The plant also sends out underground rhizomes, from which dense
patches of green spring up. It flowers in late spring to early summer. The yellow–white flowers are
clusters of five sepals and five petals–– tiny florets on a stalk, or petiole. The greenish white to all
white, lined fruit forms midsummer to mid–autumn and is technically called a "drupe." Most people
call it a berry. They grow to be about 6 mm wide and stand upright on the stem, instead of

Analysis Of The F Word By Firoozeh Dumas
In Firoozeh Dumas narrative she suse the rhetorical terms ethos, pathos, logos, repetition, and
flashback."The F Word" explains how to overcome obstacles as an Iranian immigrant. She persuades
the audience that they can trust her because she's an immigrant herself . Her move to California
impacted her life forever. Dumas uses Ethos by sharing how she's received her BA from the
University of California,Berkeley. She won a PEN/USA award in 2004 and is an Iranian immigrant
herself making this narrative from someone who had first hand experience, she is someone who can
speak for those who can relate. She felt the need to write this because she never thought that her
name would affect her life in America, surprisingly she learned that her name would be conundrum
she would have to face for the rest of her life. She sends her condolences to those who have to face
the same type of situation.
Dumas explains her flashbacks to the days she would get made fun of during her childhood. It's easy
for the audience to imagine how she was when she was a child. When certain things happen to you
in your childhood they can stick with you for the rest of your life. In this case, she explains how her
name could not be pronounced and how her cousins, other iranian immigrants, would be made fun
of for the name they were given. Duma describes multiple events in such detail because she could
never forget them. Throughout this narrative she uses repetition by repeating the word "name" a
copious amount of times. The whole point of this entry was the result her name gave to her life as an
immigrant in our country. She was motivated to write when she came to a realization that her ethnic
name would become such a barrier for her and her family. In the process of writing this experience
her own father wanted to keep her maiden last name a secret for those who would eventually read it.
In the beginning of the story she makes a reference to the americans that states "move over
cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for cardamom and sumac." The reasoning behind this is that
americans are so use to the same names "spices" that they aren't use to other names "spices" and as
times are changing americans have to realize that they is

Importance Of New Year In Iran
New Year is one of the highlights of the year. For many, it is a time they spend with their loved one

new adventures, new opportunities, and most importantly new beginnings. Every new year brings a
great story for us to begin. All around the world, people celebrate the new year and start a fresh year

Jewish new year that is celebrated on September 20th, or Chinese New Year, which is celebrated
between January 21st and February 20th. There so many other new years that each country and
culture celebrates every year. So today I will tell you about a new year celebration that you might

Why Does This Color Change Occur In The Place?
As everyone in New York can notice, the leaves on deciduous trees change from their usual green
color to a new spectrum of warmer colors, including yellows, reds, oranges, and browns. But why
does this color change occur in the first place? When leaves are green in spring in summer, the color
is attributed to a chemical called chlorophyll. This is where the plant processes and makes its food.
Along with this green pigment, there are also yellow and orange. However, these pigments are
usually masked under the green pigment. Even so, it explains why all plants, or even leaves on the
same plants are not all the same shade (Palm). The colors in leaves are all derived from certain
pigments located within the leaves. Usually, these pigments are only seen in the fall. Yellow
pigments are derived from xanthophyll and chlorophyll B. Orange colors in leaves are from a
pigment called carotene. Chlorophylls A and B give trees a unique green shade to them, depending
on the amount of pigment each leaf has. All of these pigments are used to gather sunlight and make
food for the plant. Red or purple pigments are derived from anthocyanin. ... Show more content on

During this time, the plant stop manufacturing food for themselves. This means that they no longer
are using the chlorophyll, and the pigment disappears. When the green color is gone, one can see the

red colored leaves. Stopping its food production is important for a deciduous plant so sustain winter.
When this time comes around, there is little to no water accessible to the trees. If they did not drop
their leaves, they would slowly dehydrate and die because the water in their leaves would be
evaporated out. Unlike coniferous trees, which have stronger cuticles to retain the water in their

Dumas references many popular things in American culture throughout her essay. When she was
deciding on an American name she states, "Her reasoning made sense, except that Farrah Fawcett

that, "...'Fifi'. Had I a special affinity for French poodles or been considering a career in prostitution,
I would've gone with that one." These two quotes are familiar and able to be laughed at by majority
of Americans because we see exactly what Dumas means by both. She included these two lines that

Want a Great Location and a Project Too?
We had a generous offer from our neighbor, Jim Cumming, in 2007, but we turned it down because
we were at a loss about what to do so soon after Coty's passing. The deal was also structured in a
way that made us a little uneasy. It was probably a mistake not to take that offer, and it was surely a
mistake to ask for significantly more than the first offer when we did the actual listing.
The economy was not doing well when we listed Comfort, and to make matters worse taxes were
rising at a rate that made government spending and inflation look tame by comparison. Between
2006 and 2007 the ambitious local assessor more than tripled the taxable value of our property along

Rhetorical Analysis Of Cheryl Merril's Singing Like Ymac
In "Singing Like Yma Sumac" (2005), Cheryl Merril utilizes various rhetorical techniques in order

Merrill shows this by comparing the elephant to Yma Sumac, a famous singer with a wide range of

and humans aren't that different. Merrill addresses people who like animals by sharing a personal

honoring their culture, preserving their past, and changing the future by passing on their knowledge

sumac kawsay as "good living" or a "way of life that agrees with nature, social responsibility, and
the well–being of individuals and communities" (p. 232). Additionally, the author points out the
mixer of indigenous heritage with Western cultures and newer technologies. Furthermore, Bown

exciting sights, smells, and sounds. Hiking with your Labradoodle can be a lot of fun, but you also
need to take some extra steps to ensure that both of you have a great time. Here are some tips that
will help you get started.
Before you go
Make sure that your dog's vaccinations are current and carry proof when you travel. Also, check to
ensure that the information on your pet's ID and microchip is up–to–date. When hiking through the
woods, your Labradoodle will also need flea, tick, and heartworm preventative.

As dog owners, we have to be ready to take care of our dogs no matter what circumstances arise. Be
sure to bring a basic first aid kit for minor injuries. Sites such as peteducation.com can also provide

On the trail
Now it's time to head out for an adventure. When you're out on the trail, you and your dog are both
ambassadors for everyone who enjoys hiking with dogs. If you keep that in mind, you'll be sure to
make a positive impression.
It's a good idea to keep your dog on a leash at all times, even if it's not required. This will prevent
your dog from getting into an unsafe situation. Unless you're very confident that your dog will obey
your commands no matter what, leashing is best. Always keep your dog on the trail. Be sure to
avoid plants with three leaves such as poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac.
Allow time for frequent rest and water breaks, preferably in a shaded area. If your Labradoodle isn't
wearing booties, stop periodically to check his paws for cuts. Also, if you're in an area where you
might encounter hunters, be sure to get a bright orange vest or bandana for your dog.

Sesshu Toyo Research Paper

  • 1. Sesshu Toyo Research Paper In many Chinese paintings bear inscriptions, texts written on the same surface as the picture, or colophons, texts written on attached pieces of paper or silk. Calligraphy and painting have always been closely related but China held calligraphy much higher than painting. A long tradition ties all the pictures and poetry together. Many artists added seal impressions in redin to identify themselves. No other Chinese form of art has such a worldwide admiration as porcelain. Artists often decorated ceramics, such as porcelain in colored designs or pictures, working with finely ground minerals suspended in water and a binding agent. Chinese used lacquer, made from the sap of a Asiatic sumac tree, to cover wood. The Asiatic sumac tree is native to central and southern China. When the lacquer dries it prevents wood from decaying. We have adopted all of the crops native to Egypt. If we didn't adopt crops from other places, our agriculture economy would be lacking because wheat and barely play a large role in our daily diet. Africa's arts and crafts had finely molded pottery, elephant masks called Mukenga. The difference of this elephant mask is that is symbolizes power and leadership. It can relate to elephant hunting. An art they have is the helmet, or kabuto. The kabuto disguised samurais and protected their heads and necks. The kabuto is also used for intimidation and symbolizes longevity. When the Buddah is raising their left hand, they are giving a blessing. Lastly, Europe also has pottery but is often made with a frosted glass. A variety of foods and drinks belong to indiscreet and fundamental parts of every ceremony and party. Without any doubt, all the people all around the world with the different cultures, at least, like and are interested in a certain kind of foods and drinks that most of them are local ones. Since I moved to Canada I have been into and tried fast foods like KFC, white spot and of course McDonalds. They sound pretty good, but homemade Persian foods are something else. The best thing to do is to buy your meat on the same day that you are going to grill it, but if you like to shop a day before that's totally fine but you have to prepare the mixture and put in the refrigerator to keep fresh. The piece of writing "A Girl's Story" is a story about a writer, writing a story about a girl who is having problems with her fiancé as she feels unfulfilled. It is supposed to be a somewhat cliché short story, as the writer even acknowledges that himself. He does this by stating why he made various decisions when constructing the main character such ... In the storyline of the girl, the author describes the scenery at the side of the river. He adds many details about the scenery such as "Under the innocent sheen of the mirroring surface, the current is treacherous." and "The undergrowth too, is thick and green, hiding the poison ivy, the poison sumac and the thorns." (A Girl's Story) These details may suggest events to come in the future of the story. The author acknowledges the details he has written by saying "I slipped a lot of details in there and provided all those hints about strange and dangerous things under the surface. Herbal Medicine In Native American Medicine Advanced medicine has it's advantages, but the medicine today mimics the characteristics of plants used to help people way before man–made treatments. Herbal remedies don't have many of the side effects drugs have today. Looking into the roots of herbal medicine can make modern medicine more effective, safer, and healthier for generations to come. Native Americans before they were exposed to modern medicine and technology, only relied on plant based medicine. The Sumac tree was used often in Native American culture for both food and health remedies. The Sumac is native to temperate and subtropical zones and it was grown in North America. It was seen as a sacred plant that helped improve the lives of the Native Americans. The parts that were usually used were the root bark, leaves, and berries ("Herbal Medicine"). Sumac was very versatile in that it helped with many health issues the Native Americans often faced. The active properties the plant contained were Calcium malate, Dehydro Fisetin, Fisetin, Iodine, Gallic–acid–methyl ester, tannic and gallic acids, Selenium, and Tartaric–acid (Jackson, Deb, and Karen Bergeron. The largest environmental impact seems to stem from the misuse of different deicers and can have detrimental effects on the surrounding environment including vegetation, wildlife, and soil (Buckler and Granato, 1999). Enthalpy of dissolution was also examined in an attempt to find whether or not the reaction between a deicing agent and water would be endothermic or exothermic. NaCl and KCl were both found to be endothermic, while CaCl2 and MgCl2 were found to be exothermic. Based on the ability to depress freezing point, and the exothermic reactivity, MgCl2 was found to be the most effective deicing agent. Impact on the environment was also examined. Although all Chloride based deicing compounds are detrimental to the environment, much of the problem stems from the amount of cations which seep into the surrounding area. Under the preceding notion, MgCl2 was found to be the most environmental friendly as it holds the greatest potential for freezing point depression and exothermic reactivity amongst the compounds examined. • 29. Poison Ivy Monologue Poison Ivy May 15, 2012 at 10:17pm Poison Ivy by Sydney J. Tanner When I was 19, I was attending Utah State University, in Logan Utah. I lived in a beautiful canyon in the mountains and went hiking and camping a lot. One camping trip, being a bit naive and inexperienced I "wiped" with the nearest green leaf I could find. What followed was an excruciating lesson never to be forgotten. Not being from Utah, I had never seen or been around poison ivy before. Later that fall, I was on a committee decorating for an autumn formal dance. I gathered interesting and colorful vines and "weeds" to make thirteen large wreaths for the walls. After I hung the last wreath for the dance that evening, I realized something dreadful. Gee, poison ivy changes color in the fall. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berries white, run in fright." The old adage still stands. As a Wisconsin Master Gardener, I share my embarrassing story with you for a reason. Some people still don't know what poison ivy looks like. When I tell this story, I get to hear other people's awkward tales of adventure in the ivy. They range from honeymoon disasters, to children playing tag in it, to beloved pets rolling in it and then jumping into bed with their masters that evening. Poison Ivy (Taxicodendron radicans, also called Rhus radicans) is a member of the Anacardiaceae family (Sumac/Cashew) and is a native woody plant in Wisconsin. It is considered a noxious weed. It spreads both vegetatively and sexually. The seeds are spread by animal feces. The plant also sends out underground rhizomes, from which dense patches of green spring up. It flowers in late spring to early summer. The yellow–white flowers are clusters of five sepals and five petals–– tiny florets on a stalk, or petiole. The greenish white to all white, lined fruit forms midsummer to mid–autumn and is technically called a "drupe." Most people call it a berry. They grow to be about 6 mm wide and stand upright on the stem, instead of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Her move to California impacted her life forever. Dumas uses Ethos by sharing how she's received her BA from the University of California,Berkeley. She won a PEN/USA award in 2004 and is an Iranian immigrant herself making this narrative from someone who had first hand experience, she is someone who can speak for those who can relate. She felt the need to write this because she never thought that her name would affect her life in America, surprisingly she learned that her name would be conundrum she would have to face for the rest of her life. She sends her condolences to those who have to face the same type of situation. Dumas explains her flashbacks to the days she would get made fun of during her childhood. It's easy for the audience to imagine how she was when she was a child. When certain things happen to you in your childhood they can stick with you for the rest of your life. In this case, she explains how her name could not be pronounced and how her cousins, other iranian immigrants, would be made fun of for the name they were given. Duma describes multiple events in such detail because she could never forget them. Throughout this narrative she uses repetition by repeating the word "name" a copious amount of times. The whole point of this entry was the result her name gave to her life as an immigrant in our country. She was motivated to write when she came to a realization that her ethnic name would become such a barrier for her and her family. In the process of writing this experience her own father wanted to keep her maiden last name a secret for those who would eventually read it. In the beginning of the story she makes a reference to the americans that states "move over cinnamon and nutmeg, make way for cardamom and sumac." The reasoning behind this is that americans are so use to the same names "spices" that they aren't use to other names "spices" and as times are changing americans have to realize that they is ... • 33. Why Does This Color Change Occur In The Place? As everyone in New York can notice, the leaves on deciduous trees change from their usual green color to a new spectrum of warmer colors, including yellows, reds, oranges, and browns. But why does this color change occur in the first place? When leaves are green in spring in summer, the color is attributed to a chemical called chlorophyll. This is where the plant processes and makes its food. Along with this green pigment, there are also yellow and orange. However, these pigments are usually masked under the green pigment. Even so, it explains why all plants, or even leaves on the same plants are not all the same shade (Palm). The colors in leaves are all derived from certain pigments located within the leaves. Usually, these pigments are only seen in the fall. Yellow pigments are derived from xanthophyll and chlorophyll B. Orange colors in leaves are from a pigment called carotene. Chlorophylls A and B give trees a unique green shade to them, depending on the amount of pigment each leaf has. All of these pigments are used to gather sunlight and make food for the plant. Red or purple pigments are derived from anthocyanin. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During this time, the plant stop manufacturing food for themselves. She also makes the reference when choosing her name that, "...'Fifi'. Had I a special affinity for French poodles or been considering a career in prostitution, I would've gone with that one." We had a generous offer from our neighbor, Jim Cumming, in 2007, but we turned it down because we were at a loss about what to do so soon after Coty's passing. The deal was also structured in a way that made us a little uneasy. It was probably a mistake not to take that offer, and it was surely a mistake to ask for significantly more than the first offer when we did the actual listing. The economy was not doing well when we listed Comfort, and to make matters worse taxes were rising at a rate that made government spending and inflation look tame by comparison. Between 2006 and 2007 the ambitious local assessor more than tripled the taxable value of our property along with many other islanders. We had to hire an attorney and take our case to the New York State Supreme Court to get relief. Our finances had taken a serious hit with our medical and insurance nightmares, and the horrendous school and property taxes combined made it impossible to do much–needed work. A property like ours needed a prosperous buyer who had an interest in restoring those subtle elements that constitute grandeur in a completed project. A brand new house with all the modern conveniences is what many people identify as being the ultimate, but it takes imagination to see the beauty in something less than shiny new. Seeing the Comfort Island house preserved constituted my primary goal. The realtor we picked, Mike Franklin, had a background in historical real estate and a talent for photography. He used ... Rhetorical Analysis Of Cheryl Merril's Singing Like Ymac In "Singing Like Yma Sumac" (2005), Cheryl Merril utilizes various rhetorical techniques in order to provide the reader with the idea that there is music in vocalization of both humans and elephants. Merrill shows this by comparing the elephant to Yma Sumac, a famous singer with a wide range of vocal abilities. The author compares humans with elephants in order to communicate that elephants and humans aren't that different. Merrill addresses people who like animals by sharing a personal anecdote in an appreciative way. Merrill breaks down this abstract idea to explain the idea of communication in music, and then condenses it from a scientific standpoint. Providing the reader with not only the physics of sound, but also the anatomical structure of an elephant which makes such resonant sounds. Sounds that are unique to the elephant.
