Watergate
Glenn L. Venner
Cincinnati State Community College.
After the November shooting of president Kennedy, the nation and the world mourned. While we
mourned another part of our country was raising up for right and the south would be flung into a
racial war. the war in Vietnam would be a lost cause and an embarrassment for LBJ. It would all end
with the embarrassment and the trust lost in our politicians and our president. This will come to
haunt us even today and be known as the Watergate scandal.
On the morning of June 17, 1972, several men were arrested in connection with the burglary inside
the office of the Democratic National Committee located near the Watergate building in Washington,
D.C. The robbery was in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The FBI and the American public need to know just what had happened and that this may not have
been just a typical break–in but a cover up to protect someone. And if so was it an abuse of
presidential power and a deliberate obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, at the same time seven
conspirators were indicted on charges related to the Watergate building break–in. At the instruction
of the President's aides, five pleaded guilty to the charges and avoided trial; while White House
counsel John Dean, testified before a grand jury about the president's crimes. The other two were
convicted in January 1973 for the break–in. By this time, a number of people including Washington
Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, and trial judge John J. Sirica and members of a
Senate investigating committee had begun to think that something bigger was going to break soon.
The break though came when they found out that the President had secretly taped every
conversation that took place in the Oval Office. If the investigating committee could get those tapes,
they would have proof of the president's guilt. Nixon worked very hard to keep those tapes away
from anyone his legal staff advised him that he did not have to hand them over that he had executive
privilege to protect them and to not give them to anyone. However, Senate committee and the
independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox

Was Bill Clinton Impeachment Justified
For this assignment I chose Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was impeached on two charges: lying under
oath and obstruction of justice. Mr. Clinton lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky,
but that was not the grounds for impeachment. So, was Bill Clinton's impeachment justified? No.
There cannot have been an obstruction of justice if the per suite of truth in this case was not itself a
just pursuit. You were lied to, yes by the President, who had an understandable and very personal
reason to lie. Even if that was enough to condemn the dude in guilt, the great and terrible thing
about justice in America is that it is not administered by robots; justice without mercy is cruelty.
Without considering the context of Clinton's lie, without

A Comparison Of Justice In Bohemia And A Scandal In Belgravia
Examine how the crime fiction texts "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "A Scandal in Belgravia"
privilege the dominate values of society and appeal to the audiences sense of justice.
The crime fiction texts "A scandal in Bohemia" and "A scandal in Belgravia" explore the historical
and cultural position of dominant social values and beliefs in society, shaped by the culture and time
of which the texts were written. The audience is invited to consider the ways in which the privileged
ideological assumptions which inform our reading, are important to the meaning we make from the
text through the dominant social values at the time. The way in which the texts represents people,
expectations and behaviours provides the audience with a social commentary in which values are
communicated, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The way in which these dominant values of society are privileged by the texts via their characters
and plot, appeal to the audience's sense of justice through the issues it raises. The issues, including
the obstruction of justice and good vs. evil, lead to appearances of crime and presents the audience
with common features associated with crime fiction, including characters (detectives, suspects) and
red herrings. This appeals to one's sense of justice, thus questioning the audiences view on
preventing crime and their opinion on the pursuit/obstruction of justice through the appearance of
the privileged social values in association with common features of crime fiction.
The idea that patriarchal power places women in an inferior position, particularly in patriarchal
societies and function to maintain the dominant social order, is a value closely followed and in some
ways challenged in "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "A Scandal in Belgravia". Traditionally women
were perceived as being the physically and intellectually weaker sex and in all ways subordinate to
men – a dominant value known to the Victorian

Kwame Kilpatrick Research Paper

Kwame Kilpatrick Crimes and Punishment.
Kwame Kilpatrick was elected Mayor of Detroit at the age of 31 which made him the youngest
person holding the position in the history of the city. Kwame was a charismatic, intelligent, savvy
and ambitious young man with great potential and future ahead of him. During the inauguration
ceremony he was singing on the stage, "Together we stand, divided we fall; let's build a bridge, tear
down the wall" [1]. Instead Kilpatrick tore down the entire city. He stole from the citizens he voted
for and used his position to make money illegally. Extortion, fraud, bribery, conspiracy are among
the crimes that involve 32 more people besides Kilpatrick himself. [2] In 2008 Kilpatrick resigned

The biggest factor in the settlement was the evidence against Kilpatrick and his former Chieft of
Staff, Chistine Beatty, obtained by the officer's lawyer, Mike Stefani. He subpoena the phone and
text messaging records from Skytel. The messages detailed their sexual relationship, indicated of
Mayor misappropriating funds and arranging expense romantic getaways with Beatty. The evidence
contradicted testimony that both Kilpatrick and Beatty gave at trial regarding the intimate
relationship and ouster of Brown. [9] Under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act the Detroit
Free press requested a release of all the settlement–related documents in 2008. This led to the
criminal charges against Kwame Kilpatric and Christine Beatty. In March 2008 they were charged
with misconduct in the office, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and perjury.[10]. Misconduct in
office is a commission of an unlawful act within the official capacity. It carries a maximum sentence
of life imprisonment for the public office employees/ Conspiracy is the agreement between two or
more people to commit a crime. Obstruction of justice may be an attempt to hide and not disclose an
importance piece of evidence (discovery), apprehension or punishment of somebody who committed
a crime. It sometimes includes bribery, murder or physical harm to the key witness. Oftentimes,
obstruction of justice and perjury go hand in hand, as perjury is providing false information under

Donald Trump Persuasive Essay
Does President Donald J. Trump deserve to be impeached after his first year in office? To answer the
previous question first contemplate over what is a president and what makes a good one? According
to Merriam–Webster, a president is "the chief officer of an organization usually entrusted with the
direction and administration of its policies. (pg.1)" An adequate president is a person that can build a
team, create culture, discipline, discipline others, and that knows how to organize. The current
president was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York. Previously, Trump was a real estate
mogul, entrepreneur, and billionaire and does not have any experience in the political field. Being or
becoming a businessman would take a various amount of leadership and social skills, but how does
Donald Trump remain the president today with all the ruthless offenses and lack of experience? This
candidate would not be qualified as a good president due to his reckless determinations, upsurges
and he simply does not meet the requirements.
The article Scholars and Writers for American would disagree with my statements by agreeing that
President Donald Trump should not be impeached after his first year in office. From their
perspective, they have given five appropriate reasons to why they are on President Trump's side. The
first reason is the corruption in government. According to Scholars and Writers for America Donald
Trump promised a proposal, "...for regulatory reform and for ending the

Mill's Utilitarianism
Utilitarianism is a theory in standardizing ethics holding that the best moral action is the one that
maximizes utility. According to Mill, a lot of people misunderstand utilitarianism by thinking that
utility is an obstruction to pleasure. Utility, also known as the Greatest Happiness Principle, is
actually defined as pleasure itself, and the absence of pain. This principle is described as "actions are
right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of
happiness."
Mill develops an account of rights at the end of his book Utilitarianism. He begins by coming up
with things that are commonly categorized as just or unjust. First, it is unjust to deprive someone of
their legal right. Second, it

Racial Profiling Of Michael Brown: Obstruction Of The...
After the horrendous shooting of Michael Brown by an officer in Ferguson, Missouri a petition was
sent to the White House that looks into equipping officers with body cameras on the line of duty.
Since the Michael Brown petition exceeded a hundred thousand signatures the Obama
administration was obligated to respond to the social issue ("#BlackLifesMatter" 1). By observing
officers' encounters with citizens, we'll be able to determine objective evidence of a situation.
Mistreating, framing, or racial profiling towards individuals who are of different descent is an
obstruction of justice. The proposal has rapidly gained popularity through social media, but the topic

Organizational Structure Of Arthur Andersen
Company Background:
Arthur Anderson Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) was established in 1913 into the Accounting
industry. They offered tax, consulting, and, auditing services to large corporations everywhere. Their
headquarters were located in Chicago, Illinois and eventually had over 85,000 employees in 84
different countries (Collins, 2016). By the 1990's Arthur Andersen had become one of the largest
accounting firms, and was recognized as one of the "big five." Along with being one of the largest
accounting firms Arthur Andersen was also one of the most reputable. There were many factors that
distinguished Arthur Andersen from other accounting firms, and the most notable were the honesty
and integrity Arthur Andersen had established for the company (Moore & Crampton, 2000).
Andersen set high standards which in turn resulted in the growth of their prestige. Many companies
came to Arthur Andersen because of the trust it had established in the public and in the accounting
Industry. One of the ways Arthur Andersen established their reputation was through their
organizational structure and the culture of the company.
Arthur Andersen followed a centralized management structure, a structure that follows one central
line of command, and promised the firm would speak as one voice and as one firm. This would
remain true no matter how large the company became. The company adopted this as its culture, and
employees followed, given that Andersen was very selective when hiring

Examples Of Allegory In Animal Farm By George Orwell
The book Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, is an allegory to the Russian revolution.
Meaning that events in the book correlate to an event during the Russian Revolution. All of the
characters are a representation of a historical figure. Napoleon represents Joseph Stalin, Old major is
Karl Marx, and Squealer is the Pravda. The character Farmer Jones represents the historical figure
Tsar Nicholas II, but is also similar to the modern figure .
Farmer Jones owns Manor Farm, he is a lazy alcoholic. He doesn't treat the animals with respect,
and they get tired of it. In the book the animals finally rebel when Mr. Jones fails to feed them all
day, because he was drunk a a bar. He is run off the farm by the animals. Later in to book, Farmer

Sanctuary Cities
A Sanctuary city is a city that does not permit municipal funds or resources to be applied in
furtherance of enforcement of federal immigration. However, Sanctuary cities are not and should not
be a practice within the United States. The problem is that Sanctuary cities defy federal law,
endangers the citizens of that city and propose taxes that do not benefit the people who pay them.
According to the Daily wire, local, state, and federal statistics were sorted through to find that:
"'illegal immigrants are three times as likely to be convicted of murder as members of the general
population and account for far more crimes than their 3.5–percent share of the U.S. population
would suggest'"(Aaron Bandler, 9 Things You Need To Know About Illegal Immigration And
Crime). The data shown isolates the crime rates of the undocumented immigrants compared to an
average United States citizen. However, because there are many articles showing contradicting
statistics, the fault in that is that the others articles trying to prove that undocumented immigrants do
not raise crimes. The fault there is that those reports calculate the average crime rate of the city
instead of isolating cases.

Drug Pros And Cons Essay
There are also some pro and cons of drug testing. Although drugs are seen in a negative manner
there are some advantages. Performance enhancements are also used to help recover from injuries
quickly. Drugs can also help reduce anxiety, pain, and stress. Drugs are known to have more of a
negative effect on health than positive (Jost, Kenneth 24). Although, they are known to have a short–
term enhancement they, "cause impotence, worsening acne, balding and "steroid rage." (Jost,
Kenneth 26). Another con of drug use is creating an unfair advantage. Performance enhancements
do not create a level playing field but rather a competitive advantage. The use of drugs can also
create health problems and death. Once addicted it may be hard to become sober. The use of steroids
can create liver abnormalities, altered appearances, and psychiatric illnesses(Wong, Glenn 50).
Finally, the use of drugs can create legal penalties and expenses. A major case in the professional
sport industry that has a huge influence on anti–doping are the following is BALCO. BALCO is a
scandal that involves the use of performance enhancements. Barry Bonds a former Major League
Baseball player was found to be in a scandal with his former trainer Greg Anderson. Because
Anderson was found guilty of giving athletes steroids this led to the speculation of Bonds using
drugs. His defense was that the drugs were used for arthritis and dietary needs. However, Barry
Bonds were convicted for four counts perjury and one

President Richard Nixon's Resignation In The United States
President Richard Nixon did several things while in office that eventually led to his resignation in
1974. The most significant is that he plotted to wiretap and steal from different offices and other
spaces to gather information to help lead to re–election and he also tried to cover up and lie about
the scandal when it all unfolded. 1) "Nixon created a special investigative unit known as the
"plumbers" to gather information..." (Foner, GML, 1031). These "plumbers" were all former
employees for the CIA, which later led the FBI to believe that the break–ins where operated by the

The Obstruction Of Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm
The Obstruction of Power Throughout Animalism
"The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior
knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership"– Pages 27–28. The book that this
is present in, is Animal Farm by George Orwell. George Orwell wrote Animal Farm hoping his
readers would see the comparison to the Soviet Union through allegory, and symbols. The Animal
Farm was ultimately a failure because of power; more specifically, because the obstruction of power.
Throughout the book it is seen how most animals in power obstruct certain rights, this greatly
impacts the influence of power on the animals. The majority of the downfall of Animal Farm is
based around how the animals have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of the obstruction of power is on page 80, "That was our mistake, comrade. For
we know now it is written down in the secret documents that we have found – that in reality he was
trying to lure us to our doom." This quote came from when Napoleon was talking about the Battle of
Cowshed with Boxer. The documents they "found" were most likely forged by Napoleon and
Squealer themselves making it seem that Snowball was a traitor. They were also taking advantage of
the animals' inability to read, and the fact that the animals looked up to the pigs.
Obstruction of power never would have occurred if the peace, and unity, from the start of the book,
continued on for the rest of it. For example, there is a great difference between Snowball's rule, and
Napoleon's. Snowball believed in the actuality of Communism/Animalism and that all animals
should work together on equal grounds to look forward to a greater future. Napoleon was crazed for
power, and when he had finally gotten it, he abused and misused it. Napoleon made it obvious that
he was "more equal" than all other animals, and that they were on lower grounds then he and his
main conspirators were. Napoleon twisted the Seven

Mrs. Maloney: Long And Hard Punishment
Dora Castillo Pivec
Honors English

I believe that Mrs. Maloney deserves a long and hard punishment for the murder of her husband, Mr.
Maloney. Some reasons as to why she deserves a long and harsh time in prison is that she committed
first–degree murder, covered up and destroyed evidence, lied to the police, and she could possibly
be a danger to others. Firstly, Mrs. Maloney murdered her husband Mr. Maloney. She committed
murder by bashing her husband in the back of the head with a frozen lamb leg. First degree murder
under accordance to the law is punishable by death or life in imprisonment. Secondly, Mrs. Maloney
had tried to cover up the crime by destroying the evidence in a rather clever and ironic way. She fed

The Pros And Cons Of Murdere Punishment
Have you ever wondered how many innocent people are serving time in prison? Well, in 2015, 149
people were exonerated from prison because they were falsely convicted of crimes. One of the many
incidents of this was the case against Glenn Ford. He was sentenced to death by electrocution in
1984 for robbery and first degree murder of Isadore Rozeman. He spent 30 years in prison until
2014, when he was exonerated. The reason for choosing this topic is because although numbers are
decreasing, there are still people who have been falsely convicted and sent to prison; and at least
4.1% of innocents are on death row. We must stop this corruption of false convictions in the court.
If "false conviction" is an unfamiliar term, a false conviction is when an innocent defendant is
convicted of a crime they never committed. This is considered an injustice because there are more
than 8,000 people who are on death row for something they never did. The courts should be where
the people find the truth of the trial, but this rarely happens. Some trials may have the truth come to
light, but not many. Instead, it has only resolved conflicts between the defendant and plaintiff. As
stated prior, although there are decreasing numbers, it is still an injustice that occurs.
There are many ways that false convictions occur. One example is what prosecutors do with
evidence. It has been shown that some prosecutors would fabricate, or create evidence illegally to
show the defendant's guilt, or hide

A Synopsis of the Movie Fletch Essay
"Fletch" The movie "Fletch", staring Chevy Chase, is a movie about an investigating reporter for a
Los Angeles newspaper, Erwin Fletcher "Fletch", loitering around a beach in attempt to pass as a

out who is behind the whole thing. While "working" the beaches, Fletch runs into a businessman
who asks him to murder him so his wife will inherit the life insurance policy. Fletch, being the

Although Fletch did not actually steal a credit card and charge things to it, he did fraudulently use
Mr. Underhill's credit at the club to get food and drinks for himself. I think proving theft in this case
against Fletch would not be so hard to prove in the Court of Law simply because there is so much
evidence and the crime follows the books exactly. On the other hand, proving credit fraud might be
a little tougher to successfully charge Fletch with. Since Fletch did not actually use a credit device,
which by my knowledge is the only way to get in trouble for credit fraud, it might be easier for the
defense to get around. Either way, Fletch did commit multiple crimes in this scene, which could be
punishable by jail time. Around the middle of the movie, police officers come to the beach to
"arrest" the black man in the movie, another drifter on the beach. In attempt to find out more, Fletch
goes to the scene of the arrest and tries to stop the police from beating this man. Although the police
officers were using excessive force, Fletch has no right to interfere with an arrest by a law
enforcement officer. According to the law regarding Obstructing Justice, one is guilty of obstruction
of justice is he/she unlawfully attempts to interfere with the administration of courts, the judicial
system, or law enforcement officers. In this particular case, Fletch interferes with a law enforcement

Obstruction Of Justice In Huckleberry Finn
Obstruction of justice is the act of interfering with the procedures of the court or its officers. These
acts include threatening witnesses, inappropriate talk with jurors, hiding evidence, or inferring with
an arrest, which are all punishable crimes (LII Staff "Obstruction of Justice"). In modern times,
obstruction of justice happens regularly. For example, in June of 2015, a man by the name of David
Daoud Wright was charged on multiple accounts, one of which was obstruction of justice. Wright
was charged with obstruction of justice for alleged deleting all information and data from his laptop

The Pros And Cons Of President Nixon And The Watergate 7
After the break–in, Nixon needed to protect his image so that American's could still trust him. To
accomplish this, he let a number of employees take the blame for him. The Watergate Seven were a
group of men involved in the scandal, who were also advisors and aides to President Nixon. On
January 8, 1973, these men were put to trial. With urges from Nixon, five of the seven pleaded
guilty. Then on January 30, 1973, six of Nixon's aides and the lawyer for his re–election committee
were charged with perjury, obstruction of justice, and conspiracy to cover–up the break in. This
included John Mitchell, Harry Haldeman, John Ehrlichman, Charles W. Colson, Gordon Strachan,
and Kenneth Wells Parkinson. However, after the trial, CIA operative, James W. McCord, wrote a
letter to Judge John Sirica. In which he claimed that the defendants had pleaded guilty under duress.
He also said that they committed perjury and that others were involved in the Watergate break–in.
Leading to further pressure being put on Nixon and his alleged involvement in the break–in.
Eventually, Nixon's deceitful involvement would be revealed to the American public. When the
events of Watergate started to become revealed, Nixon still defended his innocence. On a televised

interview, he stated, "In all my years of public life, I have never obstructed justice. I'm not a crook.

1) What did Arthur Andersen contribute to the Enron disaster?
Arthur Andersen (AA) contributed to the Enron disaster when it has failed to the management by
failing to have Enron establish and enforce its own internal control. There has been flaws to AA's
internal control. There has been assumption that AA partners were too motivated by revenue
recognition thus, overlooking several criteria when providing their services to Enron. Additionally,
AA also recognised the retention of audit clients as vital and a loss of any clients would be
disadvantaged to an auditor's career. In AA internal control, the person who is able to make most of

Of these transactions, most of it was not in the interest of Enron of Enron's shareholders; such as
profits and cash flows were manipulated and grossly inflated which caused misleading to the

which is accounting rules used to prepare, present and report financial statements for a wide variety
of entities used in United States. AA also did not advise Enron's audit committee that Enron's CFO –
Andrew Fastow – and his helpers were involved in significant conflict of interests. Enron's politics
and internal control was also found out to be inadequate to protect the shareholders interests. These
should have made known and clear as these are responsibilities of an auditor. AA has also make the
mistake by which it did not act upon evidence found or neither has it find any audit evidence
relating to the numerous share rights transferred to SPEs and the side deals between Enron and
banks which remove the banks' risk from transactions. In auditing, audit documentations are key

Bill Clinton Scandal Analysis
The scandal between Former President Bill Clinton and his intern Monica Lewinsky is one of the
most well known scandals in United States history. This scandal that took place from 1995 to 1997
had at least 10 sexual encounters involving Clinton and Lewinsky. This series of encounters, along
with other things led to President Clinton being impeached.
There were a few people who were involved. One of the most important people is Bill Clinton. He
was the 42nd president of the United States. The next individual is Monica Lewinsky, who was an
intern at the White House who had clearance to get into the Oval Office. Another person involved is
not one who was physically involved in the scandal. This person is Betty Currie. She was the person
who granted or denied people access into the Oval Office. She ended up having to testify in the

The Impeachment of President Bill Clinton The impeachment of President Clinton is something that
will be remembered forever. Along with the fact that a presidential impeachment has only happened
one other time since the Civil War, the publicity that came with the Clinton trial was extensive
(Miller 2004). While the Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives had
vastly different views on impeaching President Clinton, the fact that only five Democratic
Representatives voted to impeach him truly shows how wide that gap was between the two parties.
Clinton was impeached on the grounds of perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice, with the
vote on both articles extremely close, a 228–206 vote on perjury to a ... Show more content on

Whatever the merits of that argument, such action is clearly unnecessary. There is no need or
justification for us to take this important action in such haste" (Rothenberg and Sanders 2000). In
another case, Democrat Rush Holt defeated Republican Michael Pappas in the 1998 contest of New
Jersey's 12th Congressional District, but Pappas still cast his vote on the impeachment. Holt
believed that Pappas should withdraw his impeachment vote because "it's a matter of historic
significance and he doesn't have to answer to anybody" (Rothenberg and Sanders 2000). Against
Holt's and many others' views, Pappas, along with the other thirty–nine representatives in their final
term, participated in the impeachment trial while facing no electoral accountability (Rothenberg and
Sanders 2000). While the Democrats still could have received some votes from the departing
Republican representatives, the chances that enough Republican representatives would vote non–
guilty to create a Democratic majority were very slim. In the 105th Congress, the House of
Representatives consisted of 227 members from the Republican Party, 207 members from the
Democratic Party, and one member who was Independent but sided with the Democrats
(Congressional Pictorial Directory). With the fifty–two percent Republican majority, as long as all
227 Republicans voted for the counts of impeaching Clinton, no Democratic votes would be needed.

Boston Marathon Bombing Case Study
The Boston Marathon Bombing occurred on April 15, 2013. Three people died during the bombing.
Several were injured two–hundred sixty more. (boston.com) The suspects were students at the
University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Each suspect was arrested for the connection with the
Bombing on May 1, 2013. There were several witnesses during their case. The charges were severe.
Dzhokhar was ordered to pay restitution to the victims. There were a lot of law enforcement
personnel involved in the case. Investigative techniques were used to link the suspects to the
Bombing. Investigators had evidence to prove who set off the bombs during the marathon.
Surveillance cameras showed two of the suspects. Dzhokhar was carrying a bag and a phone. The
bombs were set off seconds away from each other. Two of the suspects were found by the police
because they hijacked a car while using a gun and when the suspect escaped he went into a gas
station and contacted the police and that's when they received all the information they needed to get
the suspects into custody. There were charges brought against Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Azamat
Tazhayakov and Dias Kadyrbayev. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was the person that planned the bombing. He
and his friends faced thirty counts of charges alleging that he and his brother set off bombs killing
two women and an eight–year–old boy. Dzhokhar's friends were charged with conspiracy, heroin

Pardoning Nixon: Obstruction Of Justice Or Punishment Enough?
Pardoning Nixon: Obstruction of Justice or Punishment Enough? Following Nixon's resignation in
the year 1974, Gerald Ford replaced Richard Nixon as the 38th president of the United States, an
event that would change the future of America. Due to the Watergate scandal, an incident where
President Nixon was accused of deleting White House tapes that supposedly proved he coordinated
an illegal break–in to the Watergate Hotel, Nixon felt he was no longer fit to serve as president.
Rather than face impeachment, Nixon opted to resign, leaving his vice president in charge. In lieu of
facing charges for obstruction of justice, Ford granted Nixon a pardon, which eliminated any
possibility of a trial. Consequently, President Ford's pardon caused much controversy as to whether
or not this proved that the president was above the law. For this reason, many argue that Nixon
should be put on trial for his crimes, while others believe the humiliation in resignation was
punishment enough. While both statements have valid arguments, one has more reason to believe
that Nixon deserved to be put on trial due to the equality of all lawbreakers and the impact the
scandal on the American people. Although the president exerts a great amount of power over the
American people, he should not have immunity in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

has made a powerful impact on the way Nixon views government

Justice In Plato's The Republic
The Republic, written by Plato, examines one major question throughout the readings and it is
"What is justice?" To the common eye justice can be easily defined with a quick look in a dictionary
and is often defined as being fair. Plato's main character, Socrates goes to much deeper lengths than
this to define what justice is. This essay will look to reassess the discussion of justice between
Socrates and Polemarchus and identify a problem that arises with justice, "the love of ones own". To
better explain this problem an example derived from Polemarchus' and Thrasymachus' versions of
justice will be used. I will also briefly touch on the story of The Ring of Gyges to further convey
how "the love of ones own" is an obstruction to justice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Ring of Gyges provides a ring that can make its owner invisible. This invisibility adequately
exemplifies that human beings will do unjust acts if they are not being watched such as steal
(Republic 41). These acts further prove that many act in self–interest and totally neglect the idea of
what justice really is. This is a huge problem. This problem later presents a basis for why Socrates
just city has so many boundaries and restrictions. This is absolutely necessary in creating just people
who do not act out of urges and self–love but rather out of necessity to help the city as a

The Pressures Of Running A Successful Business
The pressures of running a successful business may present ethical dilemmas at one point or another
in the life of a business leader. Consider the many leaders and entrepreneurs who face challenging
situations. One such leader is Arthur Andersen who became bankrupt and was forced to shut down
his prestigious ninety–year–old auditing company, finding himself in the middle of several scandals,
but one in particular befell him for good. From a man of integrity, for over ninety long years, to his
infamous conduct which resulted in him being brought to court and indicted by the Securities and
Exchange Commissions (SEC) before a grand jury for making bad leadership decisions.
In October, 2001, Arthur Andersen, the supervisor of the Enron account, found himself in deep hot
water with the Enron Oil Company in Texas, as the SEC announced that an investigation into the
accounting of Enron was pending (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). On November 8, 2001, Enron
was forced to present its financial statements of five years to which Andersen was the auditor
(Ferrell, 2011). About five hundred and eighty–six million dollars in losses were ascertained and
therefore, Enron, was forced into bankruptcy one month afterwards (Ferrell, 2011). By December
2001 Enron filed bankruptcy (Ferrell, 2011). This event triggered a domino effect and as Enron's
accountant, Andersen was charged for obstruction of justice.

Similarities Between Clinton And Johnson
The presidencies of Bill Clinton and Andrew Johnson were unusual compared to all the rest. Clinton
and Johnson were both impeached by the U.S Representatives, but were never kicked out of office
by the Senate. However the two impeachments were similar and different in many ways. The first
president to ever be put on trial for impeachment was Andrew Johnson. Johnson would start out as
the running mate for Lincoln and would become his vice president. In 1865, Johnson would take
over as president following Lincoln's assassination. During his presidency his power and popularity
would decline massively. Within months of each other he would veto the Freedman's Bureau Bill
and the Civil Rights Bill, but they would be passed over his veto. Riots would soon start to break
out. In February 1867, congress would pass the Tenure of Office Act, which would in hopes keep the
Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton, at ease. Johnson would be punished because he violated this act
due to suspending and then dismissing the Secretary of War. His impeachment trial began in 1868.

Martha Stewart Ethical Behavior
Introduction
Martha Stewart is an American Home decorator Icon surrounded by accusations of Inside trading,
Obstruction of justice, False statements and Conspiracy. Her trial and investigation lasted for two
years ending with her being found guilty of charges and convicted to spend time in jail, home arrest
and probation. In this work I will expose Martha Stewart's behavior and why her actions were
considered outlaw, unethical and unprofessional. I will also explain which ethical behavior she used
and how that affects her image, financial status, social position, fame and followers.
But who is Martha Stewart and what is her background? I personally didn't know who Martha

The Security and Exchange Commission is the organization who monitors fraudulent transactions
and insider trading. Some experts in ethical behavior consider inside trading the most dramatic form
of utilitarian ethics.
Martha's Ethical Behavior
Since 2002 Martha Stewart was investigated by the SEC and the FBI for Inside Trading but it is
interesting that she wasn't found guilty or accused on any of those charges; she was charge for
conspiracy, obstruction of justice and false statement. It was her un–ethical behavior what drove her
into innumerable allegations and public embarrassments. There are at least four issues in this case
where ethics play a very interesting and critical role; Freedom of speech, Conspiracy, Right of
property and Inside trading.
1. Freedom of Speech
When Martha Stewart was accused the first problem presented was the Media and how her case was
going to be handled. Martha's Stewart lawyer Robert Morvillo along with Martha's publicist and
show producers orchestrated a plan to keep Martha's image as clean and honest as possible. They
didn't waste time by using the media, Martha's TV show and Magazine to defend her position and
manipulate the public opinion towards Martha's innocence. It is clear that in court previous
information and announcements of her innocence will create in the future juror's minds the
reasonable doubt needed to find her innocent. The judge immediately imposed a gag order to control
the flow of information and to avoid

Were the Whitewater Hearings a persecution by Republicans or a justified inquiry?
Abstract
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman." was one of Bill Clinton's famous political one–
liners. In the past decade, many people have made it their mission to prosecute Democratic
President William Jefferson "Bill" Clinton for committing real estate fraud known as the Whitewater
scandal and his involvement in numerous illicit sex scandals like the Paula Jones lawsuit and the
Monica Lewinsky lawsuit to name a few. The significance of the Whitewater trials and the
impeachment of the president is that it served as an example for future presidents and assured the

Paragraph one
The Whitewater Scandal was a fraudulent land scheme involving the former Governor of Arkansas,
William Jefferson Bill Clinton and his wife Hilary Rodham Clinton who partner with Susan and Jim
McDougal to purchased land worth $203,000 with the intention of building vacation homes. It was
called the Whitewater Development Corp. In 1982, their venture unfortunately failed and Clinton
brought a small saving and loans association: Madison Guaranty. This eventually raised suspicions,
which led federal regulators to question Madison Guaranty's financial stability and lending
practices. It is important to remember the alleged wrongdoing all occurred before Clinton was
elected president in 1992, but the investigation continued into the presidents' second term in office
in 1996. Even though the Whitewater Development failed financially, neither President Clinton nor
Hilary Clinton were able to pocket any profit. Once Bill Clinton announced that he was running for
president, the national media began investigating Clinton (Gormley, Ken). The national media
discovered that the Whitewater Development associated the Clintons in dealings that were
questionable to the extent of corruption through illegal loans. Further investigation revealed that
Clinton was also abusing his powers in the office by pressuring women to interact in sexual
activities with him. From the Republicans perspective, the impeachment of Clinton exacerbated the

Explain The Three Branches Of Government
Branches of US Government The Three Branches and their Powers The three branches of the US
government are the judiciary, the executive and the legislature. The judiciary consists of the
Supreme Court and other courts. The Legislature is also known as Congress is made up of the House
of Representatives and the Senate (The White House, n.d). The president heads the executive arm of
the government and he works with thousands of workers who facilitate the execution of the
government's mandate. The constitution vests power in the three arms so that they are able to carry
out their mandate. The judiciary enjoys the power to interpret the law and issue rulings on numerous
issues (The White House, n.d). Justices are the main parties in this branch and they are able to make
rulings that are to be honored. The constitution also offers the executive the power to implement
laws and policies. The president is at the forefront in implementing the policies of his
administration. The executive wields power over such issues as health, education and defense. The
US Congress enjoys the power to make laws. State and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I also believe that justice is an integral component of integrity and government officials serving in
the judiciary who obstruct justice commit corruption. The mismanagement of public funds and the
obstruction of justice are examples of corruption in the executive and judicial arms of the
government. An example of corruption in the legislature is an instance where a member of Congress
who accepts bribes from the business community. I have observed that corruption is more rampant
at the state levels of government. The case of Bob McDonnall who served as Virginia Governor and
convicted on corruption charges makes this clear. McDonnall betrayed public trust and his case

When a company restructures its operations, GAAP requires that the company recognizes the cost of
restructuring and associated liabilities. The auditor should examine restructuring charges and
reserves by reviewing FASB pronouncements and EITF statements to ensure that everything is

review actions taken by management that indicate that the restructuring is moving along as planned.
Auditors should test estimates by review restructuring documents and mathematically test those

Racial Discrimination In The 19th Century Essay
A Criminal Obstruction of Justice: Racial Discrimination in the 19th Century The Merriam–Webster
dictionary defines lynching as "to put to death (as by hanging) by mob action without legal approval
or permission." The South's so–called "lynch law" was viewed as having ultimate supremacy over
court proceedings. Over the course of ten years, there were more than a thousand documented cases
of lynching in the United States. It is suspected that there were even more cases that went
undocumented. White Americans also tended to downplay the actual severity of hangings and
lynchings, especially in newspapers and editorials. There were many ways in which African
Americans were discriminated against by whites that led to the obstruction of justice, ... Show more

The first excuse basically consisted of the belief that murder was necessary in order to put an end to
alleged 'race riots'. However, no individual was found to be part of an insurrection, and no riot was
proven to have happened. When this excuse no longer permitted the lynchings to keep happening,
Southerners had to come up with a second excuse during Reconstruction. The second excuse was
based on the terrifying ideal of 'Negro domination' and the fact that African Americans legally held
the right to vote alongside the white man. Whites were outraged that black men held any rights at
all, and were determined to keep the government under the control of white men. However, as both
the North and outside countries continued to call for the end to this brutality, a third more solid
excuse had to be made. The third and final excuse claimed that African Americans must be killed in
order to put a stop to (and avenge) assaults against women. This was the most damaging
justification and it made the whole world believe that black men deserved the lynchings bestowed
upon them. None of these excuses were ever substantiated. African Americans were hanged without
ever getting a fair trial for their 'crimes'. When a journalist attempted to expose the South's horrible
crimes for what they were, many well–known figures and newspapers attempted to stop

Watergate. Glenn L. Venner. Cincinnati State Community

  • 1. Watergate. Glenn L. Venner. Cincinnati State Community Watergate Glenn L. Venner Cincinnati State Community College. After the November shooting of president Kennedy, the nation and the world mourned. While we mourned another part of our country was raising up for right and the south would be flung into a racial war. the war in Vietnam would be a lost cause and an embarrassment for LBJ. It would all end with the embarrassment and the trust lost in our politicians and our president. This will come to haunt us even today and be known as the Watergate scandal. On the morning of June 17, 1972, several men were arrested in connection with the burglary inside the office of the Democratic National Committee located near the Watergate building in Washington, D.C. The robbery was in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The FBI and the American public need to know just what had happened and that this may not have been just a typical break–in but a cover up to protect someone. And if so was it an abuse of presidential power and a deliberate obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, at the same time seven conspirators were indicted on charges related to the Watergate building break–in. At the instruction of the President's aides, five pleaded guilty to the charges and avoided trial; while White House counsel John Dean, testified before a grand jury about the president's crimes. The other two were convicted in January 1973 for the break–in. By this time, a number of people including Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, and trial judge John J. Sirica and members of a Senate investigating committee had begun to think that something bigger was going to break soon. The break though came when they found out that the President had secretly taped every conversation that took place in the Oval Office. If the investigating committee could get those tapes, they would have proof of the president's guilt. Nixon worked very hard to keep those tapes away from anyone his legal staff advised him that he did not have to hand them over that he had executive privilege to protect them and to not give them to anyone. However, Senate committee and the independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 3. Was Bill Clinton Impeachment Justified For this assignment I chose Bill Clinton. Bill Clinton was impeached on two charges: lying under oath and obstruction of justice. Mr. Clinton lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky, but that was not the grounds for impeachment. So, was Bill Clinton's impeachment justified? No. There cannot have been an obstruction of justice if the per suite of truth in this case was not itself a just pursuit. You were lied to, yes by the President, who had an understandable and very personal reason to lie. Even if that was enough to condemn the dude in guilt, the great and terrible thing about justice in America is that it is not administered by robots; justice without mercy is cruelty. Without considering the context of Clinton's lie, without ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. A Comparison Of Justice In Bohemia And A Scandal In Belgravia Examine how the crime fiction texts "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "A Scandal in Belgravia" privilege the dominate values of society and appeal to the audiences sense of justice. The crime fiction texts "A scandal in Bohemia" and "A scandal in Belgravia" explore the historical and cultural position of dominant social values and beliefs in society, shaped by the culture and time of which the texts were written. The audience is invited to consider the ways in which the privileged ideological assumptions which inform our reading, are important to the meaning we make from the text through the dominant social values at the time. The way in which the texts represents people, expectations and behaviours provides the audience with a social commentary in which values are communicated, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The way in which these dominant values of society are privileged by the texts via their characters and plot, appeal to the audience's sense of justice through the issues it raises. The issues, including the obstruction of justice and good vs. evil, lead to appearances of crime and presents the audience with common features associated with crime fiction, including characters (detectives, suspects) and red herrings. This appeals to one's sense of justice, thus questioning the audiences view on preventing crime and their opinion on the pursuit/obstruction of justice through the appearance of the privileged social values in association with common features of crime fiction. The idea that patriarchal power places women in an inferior position, particularly in patriarchal societies and function to maintain the dominant social order, is a value closely followed and in some ways challenged in "A Scandal in Bohemia" and "A Scandal in Belgravia". Traditionally women were perceived as being the physically and intellectually weaker sex and in all ways subordinate to men – a dominant value known to the Victorian ... Kwame Kilpatrick was elected Mayor of Detroit at the age of 31 which made him the youngest person holding the position in the history of the city. Kwame was a charismatic, intelligent, savvy and ambitious young man with great potential and future ahead of him. During the inauguration ceremony he was singing on the stage, "Together we stand, divided we fall; let's build a bridge, tear down the wall" [1]. Instead Kilpatrick tore down the entire city. He stole from the citizens he voted for and used his position to make money illegally. Extortion, fraud, bribery, conspiracy are among the crimes that involve 32 more people besides Kilpatrick himself. [2] In 2008 Kilpatrick resigned and was charged ... The evidence contradicted testimony that both Kilpatrick and Beatty gave at trial regarding the intimate relationship and ouster of Brown. This led to the criminal charges against Kwame Kilpatric and Christine Beatty. In March 2008 they were charged with misconduct in the office, conspiracy, obstruction of justice and perjury.[10]. • 9. Donald Trump Persuasive Essay Does President Donald J. Trump deserve to be impeached after his first year in office? To answer the previous question first contemplate over what is a president and what makes a good one? According to Merriam–Webster, a president is "the chief officer of an organization usually entrusted with the direction and administration of its policies. (pg.1)" An adequate president is a person that can build a team, create culture, discipline, discipline others, and that knows how to organize. The current president was born on June 14, 1946, in Queens, New York. Previously, Trump was a real estate mogul, entrepreneur, and billionaire and does not have any experience in the political field. Being or becoming a businessman would take a various amount of leadership and social skills, but how does Donald Trump remain the president today with all the ruthless offenses and lack of experience? This candidate would not be qualified as a good president due to his reckless determinations, upsurges and he simply does not meet the requirements. The article Scholars and Writers for American would disagree with my statements by agreeing that President Donald Trump should not be impeached after his first year in office. From their perspective, they have given five appropriate reasons to why they are on President Trump's side. The first reason is the corruption in government. • 11. Mill's Utilitarianism Utilitarianism is a theory in standardizing ethics holding that the best moral action is the one that maximizes utility. According to Mill, a lot of people misunderstand utilitarianism by thinking that utility is an obstruction to pleasure. Utility, also known as the Greatest Happiness Principle, is actually defined as pleasure itself, and the absence of pain. This principle is described as "actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness." Mill develops an account of rights at the end of his book Utilitarianism. He begins by coming up with things that are commonly categorized as just or unjust. After the horrendous shooting of Michael Brown by an officer in Ferguson, Missouri a petition was sent to the White House that looks into equipping officers with body cameras on the line of duty. Since the Michael Brown petition exceeded a hundred thousand signatures the Obama administration was obligated to respond to the social issue ("#BlackLifesMatter" 1). By observing officers' encounters with citizens, we'll be able to determine objective evidence of a situation. They offered tax, consulting, and, auditing services to large corporations everywhere. Their headquarters were located in Chicago, Illinois and eventually had over 85,000 employees in 84 different countries (Collins, 2016). By the 1990's Arthur Andersen had become one of the largest accounting firms, and was recognized as one of the "big five." Along with being one of the largest accounting firms Arthur Andersen was also one of the most reputable. There were many factors that distinguished Arthur Andersen from other accounting firms, and the most notable were the honesty and integrity Arthur Andersen had established for the company (Moore & Crampton, 2000). Andersen set high standards which in turn resulted in the growth of their prestige. Many companies came to Arthur Andersen because of the trust it had established in the public and in the accounting Industry. One of the ways Arthur Andersen established their reputation was through their organizational structure and the culture of the company. Arthur Andersen followed a centralized management structure, a structure that follows one central line of command, and promised the firm would speak as one voice and as one firm. This would remain true no matter how large the company became. The company adopted this as its culture, and employees followed, given that Andersen was very selective when hiring ... The character Farmer Jones represents the historical figure Tsar Nicholas II, but is also similar to the modern figure . Farmer Jones owns Manor Farm, he is a lazy alcoholic. • 19. Sanctuary Cities A Sanctuary city is a city that does not permit municipal funds or resources to be applied in furtherance of enforcement of federal immigration. However, Sanctuary cities are not and should not be a practice within the United States. The problem is that Sanctuary cities defy federal law, endangers the citizens of that city and propose taxes that do not benefit the people who pay them. According to the Daily wire, local, state, and federal statistics were sorted through to find that: "'illegal immigrants are three times as likely to be convicted of murder as members of the general population and account for far more crimes than their 3.5–percent share of the U.S. population would suggest'"(Aaron Bandler, 9 Things You Need To Know About Illegal Immigration And Crime). The data shown isolates the crime rates of the undocumented immigrants compared to an average United States citizen. However, because there are many articles showing contradicting statistics, the fault in that is that the others articles trying to prove that undocumented immigrants do not raise crimes. • 21. Drug Pros And Cons Essay There are also some pro and cons of drug testing. Although drugs are seen in a negative manner there are some advantages. Performance enhancements are also used to help recover from injuries quickly. Drugs can also help reduce anxiety, pain, and stress. Drugs are known to have more of a negative effect on health than positive (Jost, Kenneth 24). Although, they are known to have a short– term enhancement they, "cause impotence, worsening acne, balding and "steroid rage." (Jost, Kenneth 26). Another con of drug use is creating an unfair advantage. Performance enhancements do not create a level playing field but rather a competitive advantage. The use of drugs can also create health problems and death. Once addicted it may be hard to become sober. The use of steroids can create liver abnormalities, altered appearances, and psychiatric illnesses(Wong, Glenn 50). Finally, the use of drugs can create legal penalties and expenses. A major case in the professional sport industry that has a huge influence on anti–doping are the following is BALCO. BALCO is a scandal that involves the use of performance enhancements. Barry Bonds a former Major League Baseball player was found to be in a scandal with his former trainer Greg Anderson. The most significant is that he plotted to wiretap and steal from different offices and other spaces to gather information to help lead to re–election and he also tried to cover up and lie about the scandal when it all unfolded. 1) "Nixon created a special investigative unit known as the "plumbers" to gather information..." (Foner, GML, 1031). These "plumbers" were all former employees for the CIA, which later led the FBI to believe that the break–ins where operated by the CIA. • 25. The Obstruction Of Power In George Orwell's Animal Farm The Obstruction of Power Throughout Animalism "The pigs did not actually work, but directed and supervised the others. With their superior knowledge it was natural that they should assume the leadership"– Pages 27–28. The book that this is present in, is Animal Farm by George Orwell. George Orwell wrote Animal Farm hoping his readers would see the comparison to the Soviet Union through allegory, and symbols. The Animal Farm was ultimately a failure because of power; more specifically, because the obstruction of power. Throughout the book it is seen how most animals in power obstruct certain rights, this greatly impacts the influence of power on the animals. Another example of the obstruction of power is on page 80, "That was our mistake, comrade. For we know now it is written down in the secret documents that we have found – that in reality he was trying to lure us to our doom." This quote came from when Napoleon was talking about the Battle of Cowshed with Boxer. The documents they "found" were most likely forged by Napoleon and Squealer themselves making it seem that Snowball was a traitor. They were also taking advantage of the animals' inability to read, and the fact that the animals looked up to the pigs. Obstruction of power never would have occurred if the peace, and unity, from the start of the book, continued on for the rest of it. For example, there is a great difference between Snowball's rule, and Napoleon's. Snowball believed in the actuality of Communism/Animalism and that all animals should work together on equal grounds to look forward to a greater future. Napoleon was crazed for power, and when he had finally gotten it, he abused and misused it. Napoleon made it obvious that he was "more equal" than all other animals, and that they were on lower grounds then he and his main conspirators were. Napoleon twisted the Seven ... • 27. Mrs. Maloney: Long And Hard Punishment Dora Castillo Pivec Honors English Session 1 I believe that Mrs. Maloney deserves a long and hard punishment for the murder of her husband, Mr. Maloney. Some reasons as to why she deserves a long and harsh time in prison is that she committed first–degree murder, covered up and destroyed evidence, lied to the police, and she could possibly be a danger to others. Firstly, Mrs. Maloney murdered her husband Mr. Maloney. She committed murder by bashing her husband in the back of the head with a frozen lamb leg. First degree murder under accordance to the law is punishable by death or life in imprisonment. • 29. The Pros And Cons Of Murdere Punishment Have you ever wondered how many innocent people are serving time in prison? Well, in 2015, 149 people were exonerated from prison because they were falsely convicted of crimes. One of the many incidents of this was the case against Glenn Ford. He was sentenced to death by electrocution in 1984 for robbery and first degree murder of Isadore Rozeman. He spent 30 years in prison until 2014, when he was exonerated. The reason for choosing this topic is because although numbers are decreasing, there are still people who have been falsely convicted and sent to prison; and at least 4.1% of innocents are on death row. We must stop this corruption of false convictions in the court. If "false conviction" is an unfamiliar term, a false conviction is when an innocent defendant is convicted of a crime they never committed. This is considered an injustice because there are more than 8,000 people who are on death row for something they never did. The courts should be where the people find the truth of the trial, but this rarely happens. Some trials may have the truth come to light, but not many. Instead, it has only resolved conflicts between the defendant and plaintiff. As stated prior, although there are decreasing numbers, it is still an injustice that occurs. There are many ways that false convictions occur. One example is what prosecutors do with evidence. It has been shown that some prosecutors would fabricate, or create evidence illegally to show the defendant's guilt, or hide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Synopsis of the Movie Fletch Essay "Fletch" The movie "Fletch", staring Chevy Chase, is a movie about an investigating reporter for a Los Angeles newspaper, Erwin Fletcher "Fletch", loitering around a beach in attempt to pass as a beach junkie with the intention of getting to the bottom of the drug trade and attempting to figure out who is behind the whole thing. While "working" the beaches, Fletch runs into a businessman who asks him to murder him so his wife will inherit the life insurance policy. Although Fletch did not actually steal a credit card and charge things to it, he did fraudulently use Mr. Underhill's credit at the club to get food and drinks for himself. I think proving theft in this case against Fletch would not be so hard to prove in the Court of Law simply because there is so much evidence and the crime follows the books exactly. On the other hand, proving credit fraud might be a little tougher to successfully charge Fletch with. Since Fletch did not actually use a credit device, which by my knowledge is the only way to get in trouble for credit fraud, it might be easier for the defense to get around. Either way, Fletch did commit multiple crimes in this scene, which could be punishable by jail time. Around the middle of the movie, police officers come to the beach to "arrest" the black man in the movie, another drifter on the beach. In attempt to find out more, Fletch goes to the scene of the arrest and tries to stop the police from beating this man. Although the police officers were using excessive force, Fletch has no right to interfere with an arrest by a law enforcement officer. According to the law regarding Obstructing Justice, one is guilty of obstruction of justice is he/she unlawfully attempts to interfere with the administration of courts, the judicial system, or law enforcement officers. These acts include threatening witnesses, inappropriate talk with jurors, hiding evidence, or inferring with an arrest, which are all punishable crimes (LII Staff "Obstruction of Justice"). In modern times, obstruction of justice happens regularly. For example, in June of 2015, a man by the name of David Daoud Wright was charged on multiple accounts, one of which was obstruction of justice. Wright was charged with obstruction of justice for alleged deleting all information and data from his laptop and erasing the call log from his phone, and also for instructing his uncle to destroy his personal laptop (Redmond, Lisa "Everett Man Charged By Feds With Obstruction of Justice"). ... To accomplish this, he let a number of employees take the blame for him. The Watergate Seven were a group of men involved in the scandal, who were also advisors and aides to President Nixon. On January 8, 1973, these men were put to trial. With urges from Nixon, five of the seven pleaded guilty. He also said that they committed perjury and that others were involved in the Watergate break–in. Leading to further pressure being put on Nixon and his alleged involvement in the break–in. Arthur Andersen (AA) contributed to the Enron disaster when it has failed to the management by failing to have Enron establish and enforce its own internal control. There has been flaws to AA's internal control. There has been assumption that AA partners were too motivated by revenue recognition thus, overlooking several criteria when providing their services to Enron. Additionally, AA also recognised the retention of audit clients as vital and a loss of any clients would be disadvantaged to an auditor's career. Along with the fact that a presidential impeachment has only happened one other time since the Civil War, the publicity that came with the Clinton trial was extensive (Miller 2004). While the Republican and Democratic members of the House of Representatives had vastly different views on impeaching President Clinton, the fact that only five Democratic Representatives voted to impeach him truly shows how wide that gap was between the two parties. Clinton was impeached on the grounds of perjury to a grand jury and obstruction of justice, with the vote on both articles extremely close, a 228–206 vote on perjury to a ... In another case, Democrat Rush Holt defeated Republican Michael Pappas in the 1998 contest of New Jersey's 12th Congressional District, but Pappas still cast his vote on the impeachment. Holt believed that Pappas should withdraw his impeachment vote because "it's a matter of historic significance and he doesn't have to answer to anybody" (Rothenberg and Sanders 2000). Against Holt's and many others' views, Pappas, along with the other thirty–nine representatives in their final term, participated in the impeachment trial while facing no electoral accountability (Rothenberg and Sanders 2000). While the Democrats still could have received some votes from the departing Republican representatives, the chances that enough Republican representatives would vote non– guilty to create a Democratic majority were very slim. In the 105th Congress, the House of Representatives consisted of 227 members from the Republican Party, 207 members from the Democratic Party, and one member who was Independent but sided with the Democrats (Congressional Pictorial Directory). Following Nixon's resignation in the year 1974, Gerald Ford replaced Richard Nixon as the 38th president of the United States, an event that would change the future of America. Due to the Watergate scandal, an incident where President Nixon was accused of deleting White House tapes that supposedly proved he coordinated an illegal break–in to the Watergate Hotel, Nixon felt he was no longer fit to serve as president. Rather than face impeachment, Nixon opted to resign, leaving his vice president in charge. In lieu of facing charges for obstruction of justice, Ford granted Nixon a pardon, which eliminated any possibility of a trial. Consequently, President Ford's pardon caused much controversy as to whether or not this proved that the president was above the law. For this reason, many argue that Nixon should be put on trial for his crimes, while others believe the humiliation in resignation was punishment enough. While both statements have valid arguments, one has more reason to believe that Nixon deserved to be put on trial due to the equality of all lawbreakers and the impact the scandal on the American people. To the common eye justice can be easily defined with a quick look in a dictionary and is often defined as being fair. Plato's main character, Socrates goes to much deeper lengths than this to define what justice is. This essay will look to reassess the discussion of justice between Socrates and Polemarchus and identify a problem that arises with justice, "the love of ones own". To better explain this problem an example derived from Polemarchus' and Thrasymachus' versions of justice will be used. From a man of integrity, for over ninety long years, to his infamous conduct which resulted in him being brought to court and indicted by the Securities and Exchange Commissions (SEC) before a grand jury for making bad leadership decisions. In October, 2001, Arthur Andersen, the supervisor of the Enron account, found himself in deep hot water with the Enron Oil Company in Texas, as the SEC announced that an investigation into the accounting of Enron was pending (Ferrell, Fraedrich, Ferrell, 2011). It was called the Whitewater Development Corp. In 1982, their venture unfortunately failed and Clinton brought a small saving and loans association: Madison Guaranty. Over the course of ten years, there were more than a thousand documented cases of lynching in the United States. It is suspected that there were even more cases that went undocumented. However, no individual was found to be part of an insurrection, and no riot was proven to have happened. The second excuse was based on the terrifying ideal of 'Negro domination' and the fact that African Americans legally held the right to vote alongside the white man. Whites were outraged that black men held any rights at all, and were determined to keep the government under the control of white men. However, as both the North and outside countries continued to call for the end to this brutality, a third more solid excuse had to be made. The third and final excuse claimed that African Americans must be killed in order to put a stop to (and avenge) assaults against women.
