1) Describe the overall topic of your Senior Project.
The overall topic of my project is animal care. I will help find rescued animals a new home.
2) What is your previous experience in this area of study?
I do not have any experience in this area. However, I love animals and have always enjoyed being
with them and I would really like to help find new homes for animals.
3) To what career will you connect this project (required)?
This project is connected to being a Pet Care Worker.
4) Describe what you are proposing to do for your Product step-by-step and in detail. Write on the
back of this sheet if necessary.
For my product I am planning on creating a handbook for new pet owners and a section in the
handbook will be for children, so they can understand how to take care of their new pet. First, I plan
on meeting with my facilitator to discuss my ideas. Secondly, I plan to volunteer at the shelter to
familiarize myself with the animals and the shelter. Thirdly, I plan to purchase products to create my
handbook and I will have my facilitator help me with the information that will be in the handbook.
Fourthly, I will research and gather information on what is the most important information or things
a new pet owner should know. Then, I plan on giving out these handbooks for free at adoption
events. Lastly, I will create and purchase wristbands that advertise pet adoptions and I will sell each
wristband for $1.00 at fundraisers and at school. The revenue earned from the wristbands will be
donated to the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. I will also volunteer at the animal shelter with the
Creekview Homeless Pet Club and I will assist in fundraisers for the shelter.
5) How is this projecta “learning stretch” and a challenge for you?
This project will teach me on what it’s like to help helpless animals that depend on people for their
needs. It will show me and open my eyes to what a lot of animals go through, and that not enough
people are helping animals in need. I hope this project will help me decide if this area of work is
something I want to pursue in the future.
6) What are your estimated costs for completing the Product, and how will you fund these costs?
2. My estimated cost is around $300 or less. The wristbands will cost around $100, paper and materials
for handbooks around $100 or less, gas and other extras another $100. These costs will be funded by
my parents.
7) Who have you chosen (or are considering choosing) as your Project Facilitator?
The Cherokee Animal Shelter said they would provide me with a project facilitator, and her name is
Carol Mudd.
8) What is this person’s expertise in this field?
She has volunteered and has helped the animals in the shelter for many years.
