This document outlines a radio station format targeting 55-year-old Fred who enjoys classic rock artists. It includes segments on target listeners, controversial speech topics, linking songs, providing news/weather, and example playlists. The demo aims to inform and engage older audiences with music from the 40s-60s, discussions on issues like gay marriage, and news relevant to their interests.
2. TARGET LISTENER
• An example of our target listener is a 55-
year-old man. His name is Fred and he
likes to listen to singers such as the
Beatles, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra.
• Fred likes to listen to the radio by himself
sitting in his armchair. He prefers to listen to
the radio when he is alone because he
likes to be more relaxed (without his wife
talking through the songs and news!).
• Our Gold format is perfect for Fred
because we only play music that is from
the 40’s to 60’s (some will possibly be from
the 70’s, depending on the artist and the
song).
• Also, our radio station aims to keep the
listener informed, as there will be regular
detailed weather, news and travel
updates. There will also be some comfort
elements to our show, as there will be
some ring ins or competitions. This is
because the older generation are said to
like this element of a radio show.
3. SPEECH CONTENT- GAY MARRIAGE
• We could get good ‘responses’ from the
audience.
• It is quite a controversial topic and our target
audience would have very different opinions
to a younger audience.
• The plan was to get people phoning, texting
and emailing in.
• Topical, relevant to age because it is a
talking, discussion is thought provoking.
• Jeremy Vine BBC Radio 2. Phone in show.
Controversial subjects. He has for and against
people.
• Our audience would relate to a debate style
program.
4. LINK INTO A SONG
• When putting this together, I put both my recorded link
and the song onto Audacity.
• I then edited the speech and sound levels.
• I found this easier than expected because my speech
ended just before the singing started, so I spoke up to
the vocal.
• This song is relevant to the target audience because
although Madonna was around in the 80’s and not
the 60’s, the audience would still like her because they
still grew up with her as a singer- and her songs are
well known to most audiences.
5. INFORMATION
• For the news and weather content, we looked up stories
that are happening and wrote them up.
• We chose about 4 stories and went into detail about
each of them.
• We also chose some that were ‘breaking news’ and
some for fun, such as the Diamond Jubilee
• This is relevant to our target audience because they are
the type of people who are most eager to hear news
from around the world- and we have shown this with the
news from France and Syria.
6. EXAMPLES OF OUR PLAYLIST
• For our demo, we chose two
songs that would appeal to our
target audience.
• These were Madonna’s
‘Material Girl’ and Elvis Presley’s
‘Jailhouse Rock’.
• We chose these because Elvis
was an iconic figure around the
time that our target audience
was growing up and Madonna
is known by most audience
groups, both young and old.
7. SUMMARY
• Overall, we think that our demo is very
suitable for our audience.
• It has music from the right eras, a
detailed news and weather
update, and speech content that
sparks a debate, which is a type of
show that our audience appreciates.
