In order to discuss pop art I have chosen to examine the work and to some extent lives of Roy
Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol who were two of the main forces behind the American movement. I
intend to reflect the attitudes of the public and artists in America at this time, while examining the
growing popularity of pop art from its rocky, abstract expressionist start in the 1950s through the
height of consumer culture in the 60s and 70s to the present day.

Art. Warhol moved to New York in 1948–49 where he started work as a graphic designer, creating
adverts for fashion magazines such as Glamour, Vogue and Harper's Bazaar. Andy Warhol shot to

between two young men, Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym. Georg believes that the land
currently under Ulrich's name actually belongs to him, therefore steals game from Ulrich's land just
to spite him (Saki 82–83). After confronting each other, it is made clear that they both wish to take
the other's life (83). Suddenly, a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree, causing it to pin both men to
the ground (84). The Machine That Won the War portrays the story of three men,
Lamar Swift, John Henderson, and Max Jablonsky, who are discussing Earth's victory in the war
against the planet Deneb (Asimov 1). Everyone believes that an ingenious computer called

information and changed it until they thought it appeared to be accurate (1–4). Differences in these

The Compare and Contrast of The Story of an Hour And The Interlopers In the two stories The
Interlopers and The Story of an Hour, there are many similarities and many differences. With
different authors, the plots hold very different themes, climax, and rising actions. Though the two
stories are very different, there are some similarities when you look close enough. The Story of an
Hour revolves around a woman named Louise Mallard who has heart trouble. When her sister
Josephine breaks the news to her that her husband was a part of a lethal train accident, Louise does
not take the news well and locks herself in her room. While in solitude, she looks out an open
window. She sees trees, smells approaching rain, and hears a peddler yelling out what he's selling.
She realizes with the death of her husband brought her a freedom. She could now live for herself.

Many people desire to get something, and they fight each other to win their desire. They consider
each other their enemies and do whatever it takes to be better than one another. When the enemies
need help for same problem, they unite themselves to solve the problem. The short story "The
Interlopers" by Saki is about unification and reveals how enemies become allies in harsh situations.
Ulrich von Gradwitz and Georg Znaeym were enemies because Ulrich was the owner of the forest
land, and Georg was trying to steal Ulrich's forest land. They met in the middle of the forest and
tried to kill each other. However, they were trapped by the huge tree that fell from a fiery storm.
Waiting for their men to rescue them, Ulrich offered Georg a wine. Ulrich von Gradwitz told Georg
Znaeym that if Ulrich's men come faster than Georg's men then Ulrich will tell the men to rescue
George first, and that they have better things to do than "getting the better of a boundary dispute"
(Saki 86). The quote shows that Ulrich wanted to be friends with Georg rather than fighting over

traps us in blindness. Saki has a theme of blood throughout the story. Saki states, "[A] s boys they
had thirsted for one another 's blood," (7). The dictionary has a word for this definition– bloodlust.
As stated before, this is slightly ironic, being that the bloodlust was in boys; boys who are supposed
to be innocent and honorable. He continues with, "Georg, who was nearly blinded with the blood
which trickled across his eyes" (8). According to the Merriam–Webster dictionary, bloodlust is the
'desire to kill or maim others'; In order to kill things, you need to see them. Saki goes on to stating,
"No, I can scarcely see anything; there is so much blood caked round my eyes," said Georg, "and in
any case I don 't drink wine with an enemy" (9). This blindness is caused by the bloodlust between
the two souls, or in other words, they are being blinded by their animalistic nature. Georg's
