This document summarizes the responses to a questionnaire about preferences for film genres, elements, and plot points. Key findings include:
- Comedies are the most popular genre, so including comic elements would appeal to more viewers.
- Respondents prefer unexpected or unpredictable endings over expected ones.
- Viewers want elements of multiple genres like romance, thriller, and comedy combined in one film.
- Similar films that are well-liked provide examples of soundtracks, genres, and narratives to emulate.
- An unexpected yet entertaining ending with death, obsession, and unhealthy love would match audience desires.
2. This question was just to see
who was answering the
questionnaire. Male and female
demographics desire and
expect different things from a
film to suit their preference.
For example, A male may want
to see an attractive female in
the film but to a female
audience member, this factor is
not important. This idea comes
from the male gaze theory.
3. This question allowed me to know
which answers were coming from
my demographic.
This data tells me that all of the
answers came from people in the
age bracket of 15-24, meaning I
can take all responses into
consideration since they are
relevant and come from a relevant
source.
4. This information tells me what genre
of film this selection of my
demographic would usually go for.
The highest was comedy, before
romance.
My short film is a merge of romance
and thriller, so with romance and
thriller scoring a decent percentage,
this is important to know that it is
something my target audience would
watch.
Since comedy scored so highly, it is
important that I take this into
consideration and think about
inserting some elements of comedy in
my short film.

6. • This question aimed to gather as much information on how to end my story as
possible. Since working on AS Media, I have only researched how to open a
film, so this question was important when planning how to finish my short
film.
• I wanted to find out whether something expected and fairy tale-like was
preferred over something unexpected.
• The results show that clearly a more unexpected and unpredictable ending is
the preferred one by many. When planning my short film and editing, I will
ensure the ending is not predictable so that the audience is as shocked as
they desire to be.
7. • This question aimed to gain
information about the kind of film
my demographic would like.
• It is clear that one option is not
preferred as most people chose
to have elements of all three in
the film.
• When planning my film, I will keep
in mind that my audience would
like to see elements of all of these
types of film in one.
• It is also clear that focusing on
more than one of these elements
will appeal to a much broader
audience.

10. • This question allowed me to see what other films my audience
watch in their spare time.
• From this, I can see what kind of soundtracks, genre and narrative
my audience like. Furthermore, this is handed to me with the
explanations as to why they liked the film, enabling me to take
these elements and insert them into my film.
11. • This question asked my audience
without directly asking them, what
they want to see from my film.
• An unexpected ending scored the
highest, following a continuous
correlation throughout the responses-
that an unexpected, shocking yet
entertaining ending is desired.
• Death also scored highly, this is
something that can be interjected into
the shocking ending.
• Obsession and unhealthy love scored
highly, this is a bonus as the narrative
of my short film deals with this kind of
obsessive behaviour and dependency.
12. The majority of the answers to this question tell me that the
ending of my short film needs to be shocking in a way that is
an enjoyable realisation for the audience.
It is important that I include as much as I can that my
demographic want to see to ensure they would watch it, and
that institutions would deploy it.
