Introduction
Red foxes were introduced in Australia by settlers in the 1830s. The Red Foxes spread quickly
throughout Australia to become a very damaging species to the environment. European settlers
introduced red foxes so they could use them in fox hunting because they had nothing to hunt. The
red fox is one of the largest of the fox species in the world.
Red foxes are part of the "Canidae" family and are related to dogs, jackals, coyotes and wolves.
There is over 20 foxes In the world but the only fox found in Australia was the Red Fox.

The Red Fox was first introduced to Australia in around 1871. A small number were shipped from
England for the purposes of sport hunting, and released into the wild in southern Victoria around
Geelong, and also in South Australia.
The Red Foxes were brought to Australia for the sport of fox hunting. Fox hunting is where hunters
chase and kill wild foxes using special dogs trained for sport. Hunters dressed in their uniforms let
their specially trained foxhounds off the leash to sniff out foxes hiding in bushes. The hounds chase
the frightened foxes as they run away from the hounds. The hunters chase the hounds until the fox
escaped or was killed.
At the time, no one knew what a major problem the Red Foxes would become for Australian farmers
and the extent of the damage they would cause to our environment. By 1893 foxes were so
damaging that they were considered pests.

Today was the first day of our applied theatre project for environmental education at David Fleay's
Wildlife Park. We started the day by getting into costumes and roaming around the park. Originally
this was done in pairs, but seeing the amount of people that actually came to the park we decided
that going as a group of all four of us would be the most beneficial, as we didn't want to see the
same people twice. As it was our first day we were all a bit nervous, but Afri and Georgia's
engagement with the children at the park was successful, they were taught the "secret call" of
"Coowee!" and they enjoyed the animals being there. Next time, the animals could engage more and
be more present in this activity. Next was the performance. The performance went exceptionally
well, and the audience of around fifteen children (and their parents) were engaged and participating
the entire time. Though, due to this the performance ran longer than expected and we were unable to
do the "eco Hero Pledge". We also underestimated the amount of people that would be there, and it
was hard for one person to hand out all the Eco Hero badges, and so next time I will be assisting
Lydia with handing those out. The workshop also went really well, we had lots of the participants
come in and create Bilby ears with us and it was a lot of fun. As a facilitator I felt my own personal

The problem begins back in early childhood. Children are so innocently blind that they do not
realize that occupational sex segregation appears in their every day life. An example of this is shown
in Nemerowicz's book, Children's Perception of Gender and Work Roles. Nemerowicz asked fourth
grade children to draw a man at work and a woman at work. Eighty–six percent of the pictures
showed men in jobs associated with power and labour of some kind (Mackie, 1990). Men were
drawn as construction workers, policemen, firemen, doctors and businessmen. On the other hand,
women were shown as housekeepers, nurses, cashiers and secretaries. Using Nemerowicz's results it
is safe to say that children had to have learned occupational sex segregation somewhere. Was it their
parents, their teachers or their toys that had this stereotypical affect on them? Since early sex
segregation like this occurs, differences between men and women in a child's future work
