Abstract This paper will go over the malware known as PoSeidon, malicious code that is meant to
steal both credit and debit card information by infecting point–of–sale (PoS) machines in various
stores. This paper will also go over how the attack was performed and how the code affected the
target devices. We will also take a look at possible ways that this kind of attack could have been
prevented.
Background
PoSeidon is malware that is aimed at exploiting PoS machines to illegally obtain customers' debit
card and credit card information. The two biggest victims of PoSeidon have been Target, who was
attacked in 2013 and lost information of up to 110 million customers (Alaimo, 2015), and Home
Depot in 2014 that lost up to 56 million records (Krebs, 2014). This malware is a serious threat to
every business that uses POS machines to conduct business. PoSeidon attacks a part of the POS
machine that many people did not recognize was a potential vulnerability. According to Lucian
Constantin, the PoSeidon malware used a method called "memory scraping", which scanned the
Random Access Memory (RAM) for credit and debit card information that was not encrypted. With
the information sitting on the RAM of the PoS machine unencrypted, it was wide open to an attack

Final Report
In all honesty, I did not know what to expect when heading into this internship. I knew my boss on a
personal level being that he is my brother–in–law but I only had brief experiences working
alongside him and his employees. The very first day Derek, my employer made his expectations
loud and clear he was to have 110% and nothing less. The first week on my internship I was
assigned to sorting through seemingly endless amounts of red iron and tin among other things with a
skid steer. Overtime I went from having very little familiarity with the piece of equipment to having
spent days maneuvering through the mud and sand that was behind the shop. One day as I was
riding I was reminded of a time in Mr. Fritt's Concrete class where the class took turns learning to
operate a skid steer belonging to OSUIT it was very satisfying to realize how far I had come.
The next week I received even more practice on the skid steer as I was told I was to spend quite a bit
of time mowing a couple of different locations with a brush hog and for the next few days that was
the mission. I spent many hours on something that may have seemed meaningless to many and learn
to take pride in it. Mid way through the week I went to my first real site. The facility was owned by
a company called Archrock. I only spent a day there but in that little bit of time I was hit with a

my brothers' and my favorite thing to do. The only thing that could get better is if we could operate

farm that was far away from home, all went well, until one weekend an accident occurred. The farm

On the Move My family and I depended on my father for a paycheck every month to pay for bills
and groceries, but one month the paycheck never came. My father had lost his job from Caterpillar
in Decatur, Illinois. When it happened, I was in third grade, and I had no worries, didn't care about
how I looked, and made sure that I was doing well in school. My younger brothers were in
kindergarten and preschool at the time, were six and three years old, and only cared about the toys
they wanted from the store. My mother was a stay at home mother, and tended to the house and all
of our needs at home when it occurred. My father had lost his job, my family lost the paycheck that
paid for everything.

Plane 351 Possibility Report
On Wednesday November 2nd Mather Gateway MHR had a fog diversion resulting in plane 351
being diverted to fog SMF as per the airports contingency plan. At 06:45 the operation used K
loader 994407 to unload the plane and discovered that the left front platform actuating cylinder was
leaking. The operator also complained there was no brakes. They continued to operate the loader
until a supervisor became concern at the size of the leak. At 06:59 I was called by Dean Mann in the
Air IE department and was advised of the situation. I began making phone calls to Manjeet Nagar

The loader was PMI'd on 10/28/16 and the stairs PMI'd 10/27/16. These were the first PMI's
performed by the OSS based at SMF and an uncertified Global mechanic performed the PMI's, On
Monday, the lead mechanic from MHR, Manjeet arrived at SMF to move the equipment from its
original location on the tarmac to its new location specified by the airport. It was at that time
Manjeet identified a problem with the brakes and a leaking actuator. Manjeet advised his supervisor
and the onsite mechanic of the issues with this equipment. He ordered parts and had them brought
over for install. They were not installed. The contributing factors to this safety concern are as
followed: New outside service unfamiliar to UPS operational requirements. Non–certified people
performing a PMI. Lack of follow up by the OSS mechanics and supervisor. Gateway supervisor not
informed of potential issues when identified. These issues have been reviewed and documented with

As reported in The Globe and Mail on March 22, 2012, Raymond James analyst Theoni Pilarinos
points out that Caterpillar's latest figures, while still impressive, show a moderate decrease in sales
growth. Machinery sales in February fell to 21 percent from 27 percent in January, while engines
sales growth decreased to 13 percent from 22 percent. This somewhat troubling trend also extended
to Caterpillar's global operations. In the Asia/Pacific region, growth slowed from 31 percent in
December 2011 to 20 percent in February 2012 (CBS News March 20, 2012).
This drop in sales may suggest that Caterpillar has reached its' peak and is likely to come back down
to Earth, along with their stock price. It is never smart to invest in a company that has likely reached
their peak, since there is nowhere to go but down. Investors should be wary of this news and should
probably hold off on buying Caterpillar's stock until the price inevitably comes back down due to
the slow sales growth.
Financial Ratios Potential investors examining Caterpillar's stock's value will see that Cat
outperforms the competition in almost every area concerning stock valuation. Earnings per share is a
measure of a company's net income relative to the number of shares of common stock outstanding.
