2. What makes skateboarding so
interesting and unique?
Skateboarding was
started by a couple of
surfers who took their
roller skates and
attached them to their
surf boards.
Soon people took
wooden planks and
attached their roller
skates to the plank.
3. Types of Skateboarding
There are many
different styles of
skateboarding, Vert,
Street, Long boarding,
and Street Surfing.
The most popular
styles of
skateboarding are
street and vert.
4. Street Skating
Street skating is more popular
than it has ever been!
Almost anything can be used
in street skateboarding like,
handicap ramps, hand rails,
stairs, benches and much
more.
Flip tricks and grinding is used
more in street skating than in
vert skateboard.
5. Street Skating (continued)
California is very well
know for street
skateboarding.
Street skateboarding is
banned in certain places
like personal property,
school yards, parks and
many more places.
Street skating seems to be
a little more popular than
vert skateboarding today.
6. Vert Skateboarding
Vert stands for vertical.
Vert skateboarding mainly
involves half pipes which
are ramps that are in a U
shape like the one shown.
Grab tricks and stalls are
used more often in vert
skating than in street
skating.
7. Vert Skating (continued)
Legend has it that this is the
story of how vert skating was
first started.
One night, a teenage boy was
home alone with his friends.
So the guy and his friends
drained his parents’ pool
because they thought it would
be a cool place to skate. Ever
since then, skateboarders find
creative places to skate.
8. Vert Skating (continued)
Half pipes, bowls, and
Mega-Ramps are also
used in vert
skateboarding.
Professional
Skateboarders are
either vert skaters or
street skaters.
9. Tony Hawk
During my research I learned
about a legendary skateboarder
named Tony Hawk. Tony Hawk
has accomplished one of the
biggest things in skateboarding
history! He did the 900! The 900
is doing a 2 and a half spin in
the air!
Tony Hawk has won many titles
and medals. Tony has many
skateboarding video games. He
also has his own clothing line
and shoe company. He is
probably one of the most
successful skateboarders in
history!!!
10. Research Summary
Skateboarding is so interesting and unique
because it gives kids and teenagers
freedom and thrills! Skateboarding gives
people of all ages the feeling of being
themselves and that they can’t be judged!
11. Research Process
I chose skateboarding because I
skateboard but I didn’t know much about
the background of skateboarding.
I used resources that sounded good for me
based on Mrs. Morton’s recommendations.
I picked the book I used by flipping through
the first few pages of the book to see if it
looked good.
12. Research Process
I picked PowerPoint because I was familiar
with it and I knew how to add a little bit of
effects to make my presentation better.
I learned so much about skateboarding and
how it started. I didn’t even know that there
were so many different types of
skateboarding. I learned everything from
how skateboarding was started to facts
about skateboarding legends.
