Myofascial pain syndrome is a condition that affects the fascia and causes regional pain. It is characterized by the presence of trigger points, which are hyperirritable points within tightened bands of muscle. Trigger points can be active, causing local or referred pain, or latent with the potential to become active. They are activated by overuse, trauma, poor posture, or other medical conditions and can perpetuate through nutritional deficiencies, hormones, infections, allergies, or lack of oxygenation. Treatments include stretching, heat therapy, dry needling, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, massage, acupuncture, and medications like analgesics or muscle relaxants. Exercises are also important for strengthening and conditioning muscles as trigger points are inactivated
