A single-pass transmembrane protein or a multi-pass transmembrane protein would contain a hydrophobic alpha-helix that is inserted into the plasma membrane. These proteins span the membrane with one or multiple hydrophobic alpha-helices. Peripheral and GPI-anchored proteins are attached to only one side of the membrane.
