2. What makes a good filming location?
• Good lighting
• Accessibility
• Is parking available for cast, crew, and equipment vehicles?
• Is it in a quiet location (away from traffic, train tracks
factories, and outdoor fountains)?
• Is there available electricity to plug in our lights?
• If we're shooting far from home, are there overnight
accommodations nearby?
• Is there air-traffic noise if the site is on route to the airport?
• Can we get permission to shoot there? Do we need a permit?
Can we afford to film there?
3. Filming in private homes rather than studios has
become more common as people search for ways
to make small films, especially in the credit crunch.
Although many would not be to happy by the
thought of their well-kept home being taken over
by a film crew, for those prepared to take the risk of
this, the reward may be worth it. If we wanted to
film in a public place we would need to get
permission from the appropriate local authority as
they are responsible for the public land. If we
needed to do this we would have used the UK
Screen Agencies as they would help us get in
touch with the appropriate local authority.
4. We have assessed our location and have decided there are
no potential problems with it. We will not be affected by the
weather as we are inside for most of the shots. There are only 3
shots outside of the front of the house and we have decided
the weather will not matter. Even if it is raining heavily it will
make it look more of a thriller as it looks dark and dull. It is in
one of our own houses (Ben Jacksons house) so it was easy to
get permission as his parents were fine about us filming there.
Obviously because it is only a small film and we are walking to
his house we will not need parking space for cast, crew and
equipment vehicle's. The only risks we have with our location
are general risks such as tripping and lifting. To see how we will

page. However the one possible downside to filming in this
location is the fact that his parents may accidently get in the
way of some shots. Overall I believe that our location fits with
our genre. This is because we wanted to make it look as
realistic as possible and using one of our own houses helps us
do this. It adds tension as the audience would believe this
could happen to anyone.
