In the Montessori Theory section of the Daily Montessori website we explain the
foundation principles and concepts of Montessori theory that can be applied across all ages.
Those principles are: Independence, Observation, Following the Child, Correcting the
Child, Prepared Environment and Absorbent Mind. It is within these concepts we find the
reasoning behind why things are such in a Montessori environment. These are goals and beliefs
that Maria Montessori held with regards to the education of children.
Being a teacher, I’d never train my class to be spoon feeding all the time to my class.
There should be a discovery happen, I trained them challengeable. As their teacher, I trained
them to do the task alone at their very young age. A task that is suited to their age. I just gave
the instruction, or else I just do the task first then they will be the one to do next. Then, they
learned. In other words, I just facilitate them. Through this, it builds themselves to be a
responsible and independent one. Sometimes, it may sound difficult but as I observed they
forced their selves to do those task as long as they can until they made as their daily routine.
And even in doing their activity. Being able to see everything not only enhances planning, it also
means children will incorporate a wider variety of materials into their ongoing activity. When they
encounter a problem carrying out their plans, they will also have a better idea of the alternative
available to help them solve it.
It seems it motivate to a children that they can do the task alone and not depending to
their peer or older one. Also it awakens the child’s interest and eagerness to learn. Not only of
these but also it develop their critical thinking and may have an impact upon their ability to listen
and be open-minded.
