Philosophy Statement Assignment
Its’ my belief though education children should have an environment that they have an active
interested in. Children construct their knowledge and understanding of the world though their
own experiences. I believe children are guided by teachers, family members, peers, and older
children. An approach to teaching and learning is an effective and relevant for experiences that
are meaningful and long-lasting educational for children. Children are curious and are active
hands-on learners. They are able to actively co-construct knowledge with peers and adults.
My decision to pursue career in teaching is due to me watching the growth of children. Being a
mother single mother of three. I believed in them learning and receiving education to it’s fullest.
I did not have the opportunities as a child. Being the youngest of five children, I was not able to
get the guidance and opportunity when it came to education. I cannot think of a better way to
give children the learning and education opportunities that I missed growing up. I know I can be
teacher and teach the importance of education.
My teaching style can be best described as an emergent approach to curriculum and as a
researcher I will provide children with study data all day long. By paying attention and recording
data and using it for new understandings and approaches that allows them to be engaged in a
cycle of inquiry. I will become engaged in the cycle of an ongoing process with children. I will
also look back over time and revisit a hypothesis and learning more as a result of continual
observing and reflecting about children’s ongoing work and developing ideas. I can plan next
steps and responding to children and their questions and theories.
As a Teacher I become as an observer of play listening to children. To guide their
thinking and decision making. I will hold team meetings that including dialogue and reflection
be able to make meaning out of what they seen and heard. I will make decisions based on big
play ideas, repetitive play topics, and intriguing ideas, and build on their long –lasting interests
though planning next steps. I can use children’s ideas throughout the day in what to consider
what is important, how to fit things in the day. I’m able to change the environment to support
children’s ideas, understanding and investigations. Another way is letting go and being able to
watch what happens. Joining children in play and have an authentic conversation with them and
take notes, reflect on what will surprise and puzzle me to see what can be done in response, and
always wondering about and how they can find out.
As a teacher, teaching in a constructivist moral atmosphere. Means children follow
moral rules out of obedience to authority which, is not motivated by fear. I will respect children
allowing them the right to their feelings, ideas and opinions. Being constructivist teacher’s I will
use authority wisely and not use my power as teacher, which will allow children the opportunity
to develop self-confidence, respect for self and others. Which develops an active, inquiring,
creative mind. This allows them to behave in a moral way. Children who exhibit a certain traits
like, honesty, integrity, and generosity which, can determine good and right. I can set-up an
atmosphere that permeates everyday activity and set-up a type of classroom interaction for every
part of a child’s day.
I will get to know students families and connect with families. By building on culturally
responsive partnerships with families. Also understanding families a in a sociocultural context. I
can be there setting up parent conferences with families to share the growth of the child. I can
ask for ideas that will help with educating and development of their children. I will be there to
collaborative problem solving with families. I will create a support environment network for
family’s needs.
I fill that men should be supported they can provide a different perspective in dealing
with situations with children. Boys in particular can benefit from a males positive influence
during the early years of a boy’s life. Men model positive relationships with woman, which boys
see a positive relationship between them both. Men can provide a positive male role model for
boys in how things work from a male prospective. They can be a great communicator with the
fathers of families. Men are great communicators and play with boys.
