How Will the State Rate Our School?
State Testing Accountability for 2014-15:
Parents and schools will receive assessment results
for each student, but scores will not be calculated into

Let’s begin by reviewing the goals of ACT Aspire. ACT Aspire is a longitudinal assessment system that measures student growth towards college and career readiness from the elementary grades, beginning in [CLICK] grade 3, through early high school; South Carolina’s summative assessment will cover grades 3-8. Given that we know that [CLICK] learning gaps emerge early and become harder to remediate as students approach middle school and high school, the importance of being “on target to college and career readiness” beginning in Grade 3 is critical to having all students graduate from high school ready for college and other post-secondary learning opportunities. ACT Aspire offers the exciting opportunity to provide information to help all students get on track early.
Depending on the grade and subject, most assessments have between 30 – 60 items.
[To show participants more information, click on any of the hyperlinks to show individual tables for each subject – links to http://www.discoveractaspire.org/assessments/test-items - scroll down to see Item Counts.]
For planning purposes, it is also helpful to know how long it takes to administer the entire summative assessment. Generally, it takes approximately 4 hours to complete the entire battery of subject tests. It is helpful to note that you are able to administer these assessments on different days within the test window so as to avoid assessment fatigue.
[**Remind participants that this does NOT include:
-time to read directions
-student time to read directions
-time to count and pass out materials
-time to collect and count materials
What is the moral of this story…the actual test will take longer than these designated times and they should plan accordingly when building a custom assessment schedule.]
The resulting knowledge and skills are measured in two types of question formats in ACT Aspire for p:
[CLICK] Selected-response tasks, otherwise known as multiple-choice.
[CLICK] Constructed-response tasks which require students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding by generating their own responses.
For planning purposes, here are the specific dates of testing for the Spring assessment. Writing and English are scheduled for Tuesday, April 28; Reading is scheduled for Wednesday, April 29; and Mathematics is scheduled for Thursday, April 30. Make-up testing and the optional Science test can be delivered through May 13.
