Introduction
1. The hippie subculture was originally a youth movement that arose in the United States during the
mid–1960s and spread to other countries around the world.
2. The word 'hippie' came from hipster, and was initially used to describe beatniks who had moved
into New York City's Greenwich Village and San Francisco's Haight–Ashbury district.
3. The origins of the terms hip and hep are uncertain, though by the 1940s both had become part of
African American jive slang and meant "sophisticated; currently fashionable; fully up–to–date".
4. The Beats adopted the term hip, and early hippies inherited the language and countercultural
values of the Beat Generation.
5. Hippies created their own communities, listened to psychedelic rock, ... Show more content on

. Between 1896 and 1908, a German youth movement arose as a countercultural reaction to the
organized social and cultural clubs that centered around German folk music.
Ethos and characteristics
1. Hippies sought to free themselves from societal restrictions, choose their own way, and find new
meaning in life.
2. One expression of hippie independence from societal norms was found in their standard of dress
and grooming, which made hippies instantly recognizable to one another, and served as a visual
symbol of their respect for individual rights.
3. Through their appearance, hippies declared their willingness to question authority, and distanced
themselves from the "straight" and "square" (i.e., conformist) segments of society.
4. Personality traits and values that hippies tend to be associated with are "altruism and mysticism,
honesty, joy and nonviolence".

Leading proponents of the 1960s Psychedelic Art movement were San Francisco poster artists such
as: Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso, Bonnie MacLean, Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley, and Wes
Wilson. Their Psychedelic Rock concert posters were inspired by Art Nouveau, Victoriana, Dada,
and Pop Art.
The "Fillmore Posters" were among the most notable of the time. Richly saturated colors in glaring

Impact On The British Invasion
The British Invasion took place during the mid–1960's. British musicians began to look toward their
American counterparts for inspiration, copying their styles and advertising to fans in the United
States. By this point, British youth had been interested in American rock and roll since the 1950's,
captivated by its pronounced beats and suggestive lyrics (Robbins). However, Britain did not have
the same musical background as the United States. In the States, rock and roll emerged from a
coalescence of Country and Western, Rhythm and Blues, and Pop music (Stuessy). Because of this,
rock from the United States had deep roots, while rock from Britain before the mid–1960's lacked
depth and was simply an imitation. Eventually, rock began to take off in Britain from two main
locations: Liverpool and London. This music became insanely popular in both Britain and the
United States (Robbins). When studying the British Invasion, it is important to analyze the musical
differences between Liverpool and London, as well as look at why this music became so popular in
the United States.
Due to Britain's obsession with rock and roll, skiffle became popular once again. Skiffle is a type of
music originating from jug bands and requires minimal instruments. Many skiffle bands used a
guitar, banjo, and rudimentary instruments such as a kazoo (Williams). The ever–popular Beatles
got their start as a skiffle band titled The Quarrymen in the town of Liverpool, England. The
Quarrymen was formed in

Analysis Of The Poem ' Howl '
Historic Analysis of '' Howl '' ''Howl'' was a poem written by Allen Ginsberg in 1956. For us to
understand the poem it is necessary for us to understand the history behind the poem. '' Howl '' was
published in 1956, right after the devastating World War II. After WWII that's when the American
dream was in full force throughout the whole world. Many Immigrants were trying to migrate to the
US at that time for a better living. At the same time media was becoming big and powerful gaining
trust from citizens while television was on its peak being the most important part of the media
growth as it exported an immense number news to consumers. While Americans were busy with the
new experience of having, news transmitted to them on the comfort of their houses, others worked
hard to get a movement started, from the streets, to the bars at night. A group of poets would gather
together to express their arts of literature written by them. Ginsberg's '' Howl '' was Beat generation's
first heartbeat, as the poem was first performed at Six Gallery in San Francisco in 1955 it was the
moment when Beat generation was built. As the poem was published in 1955 with the City Lights
Bookstore in San Francisco, the poem was considered one of the best American poem to be
performed. The members of that movement were professional writers although ''Howl'' was the first
foremost Beat generation work to be printed. The beat generation style of writing was something
different that nobody had the guts

I Want To Become A Career In Music
Loud music blared throughout the house while everyone attempted to sleep. Yes, It was me, a
promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and
selling beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio
engineers, and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite
difficult being a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to diversify
my music. Because of my experiences with music I've grown to have exceedingly strong traits of
versatility and commitment. I've also become remarkably resilient to hardships. I've made beats for
popular artist such as Post Malone, Famous Dex, Lil Lonnie, ... Show more content on

With the help of beat sales and self studying methods, I was able to secure my first studio, in which
I produced a few beats that only received a couple dozen views at a time. A few years later, after
constant study, struggle and perseverance, through self–doubt and peer pressure, I was able to
become an average producer. I receive over two million views on my youtube channels and over a
million views on my website monthly. People buy my beats to help fund me for future development.
During school, I always receive notifications from. different people asking for a unique beat or to
license one that they took interest in. I fell in love with making beats and I was ecstatic to find out
that there was a career that could further develop my skills. My love for beats keeps me dedicated to
becoming one of the best producers, even if it takes a long time. This dedication allowed me to not
only be committed to my music, but also, to everything I do. This devotion also caused me to
become a tenacious individual that doesn't let any obstacle interfere with my goals
Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. I was facing peer pressure, the
weird change in environment, and basically every other typical problem a freshman faced. When I
told people about my love for producing beats, many people doubted my skills and tried to kill my
dreams. However, I refused to let go of my passion for making beats and continued to strive for my
goal,

Johnson In Between Dreams
Jack Johnson is a soulful singer songwriter and guitarist who released his third album In Between
Dreams on the 1st of March 2005. Ideation around Johnsons music style has come solely from his
diverse background by which he was bought up in Hawaii. He portrays his attitudes of ease and
calmness to life within all his pieces by making them informal and natural. In Between Dreams
showcases his vocal and instrumental style thoroughly. He experiments with various styles and
variations of music (reggae, love stories, and cruisy, laid back tunes). His album is a collection of 14
mellow and simple songs that are pleasing to the ears and easy to enjoy.
Johnsons image, views and thoughts about life are well portrayed in his music. He has an

Throughout the 14 songs they all consist of a narrative or are centred around a theme of relaxation.
Johnsons style of music is very much folk rock and acoustic rock. Found within his albums he may
create a reggae styled piece, occasionally pop and soca singing styles. He mixes up his styles by
which he may use a slight variation where an electric instrument may be visible. This adds a little
difference to his song to make a more upbeat tune that can correspond with positive lyrics. Found
within Better Together (1st song of the album) is one of the example of songs that show a little
difference in comparison to his other songs. This can be found at the 1:00 minute mark where the
begins to have a highlight and it louder than all other instruments. At this point Johnson stops
singing. The piano is accompanied by the bass and a consistent drum beat that continues throughout
the whole song. This album is highly liked and most popular with backpackers as it can simplify
every issue and can make you feel safe and at

I Love Spanish Music Has Good Beats
Fresno, Texas is in Fort Bend County. Fort Bend County consists of various cities and Fresno is
amongst these cities. Fresno is a very beautiful diverse small town with about 19,000 populations.
The Blacks and African Americans are the major population right next to the Hispanics population.
The citydata.com states that the Hispanics are the second largest group living in Fresno. On the race
chart, they are 33.1 percent making them about 6,318 residents. However, the Hispanics brings
culture to the community especially when it comes to music, events, schools, nonprofit
organizations, small businesses and restaurants. As I walk around the environment, I can hear

I enjoyed taking these walk on the neighborhood streets because it brings so many memories. Life
had made it that sometimes we can be so busy with work or school that we tend to miss the little
things that life has to offer; the fresh air reminds me of my high school days. I went to Hightower
High School located here at Fresno and my school consists of African Americans and Hispanics so I
enjoyed the best of both worlds and cultures. As I walk past my old high school, I noticed that the
school buses were parked outside ready to pick up the students to take them back home. It is very
easy to notice the diversity of students, which consists of blacks and Hispanic plus few others races.
I also noticed the closeness of the two dominate race. I see a couple of interracial couples amongst
the students. Personally, I love to see the harmony of different race coming together as one or at
least accepting and learning from each other. I think that the world will be a much better place if we
can all accept and love each other as we love ourselves. It is very easy to find this pure love amongst
the younger generations then the older generations. On a lighter note, I think that the community
should expand a little more. The community needs more infrastructure, more developments, middle
schools, businesses and organizations. For example, Fresno is divided into two visible sections, the
first half of the section has residential and the

Youth Culture And Subculture Developed
Youth culture existed before the Second World War and it did not suddenly appear after 1945.
However, it emerged after that time for various reasons that will be explained later on this essay.
There were many factors of how youth culture and subculture developed such as: demographic
changes, National Service, education and raising the school leaving age, the economic period and
music. And these factors also helped shape people's experiences of them. B Demographic changes
were the first and one of the reasons why youth culture created such anxiety. Because of survived
married soldiers coming back from the Second World War, there was a 'baby boom', which meant
that the number of people under twenty grew from 3 million in 1951 to 4 million in 1966. (Osgerby,
2005) B There were two changes that happened and established youth as a group with certain needs
and problems. The first one was Butler's education act of 1944, and that raised the school leaving
age from 12 to 14. Further changes were made in 1947 raising it to 15 and 16 in 1972. Which meant
that it allowed children to go to secondary school. The second change was the development of youth
services such as youth clubs, which made these young people do something useful in their leisure.
(Osgerby, 2005) B Another factor that helped shape the development of youth culture was the
introduction of the National Service in 1948 and that conscripted

Essay on Analysis of Kinuta
Kinuta, which is also known as The Fulling Block, is a noh play written by Zeami. The characters,
which appear in this play, are: The Husband, a local squire (waki), His Sword–bearer (wakizure), A
maid, Yugiri (tsure), The Wife (maeshite), A Manservant (ai), and The Spirit of the wife, after her
death (nochijite). The Jo, or introduction of the play, begins with the very first line of the Husband
(waki), because it establishes the basis of the play and introduces the shite, or the Wife:
"You have before you a squire from Ashiya in Kyushu. Presently I am staying in Miyako, where I
have a lawsuit of mine to look after. Although I had not thought I would be in Miyako long, this year
is already my third, and I am very worried about my wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This separation has caused the Wife to encounter anxiety, which led her to believe that her husband
no longer loves her. Furthermore, the play's duality of love and hatred is established. As the play
continues, the Wife's psychological state is further revealed and it is evident that she is no longer in
her right mind. "...Were they a dream, these three autumn years; were they a dream, these three
autumn years; I should wake from sorrow, yet do not" (Tyler 162). Here, the Wife is no longer able
to distinguish her reality from her dreams. I do not find fault with her anxieties, absent state of mind,
and beliefs that her husband no longer loved her, because in the past, if a husband did not return to
the wife after three years, it was believed that the couple was divorced. Later in the play, as the Wife
and the Maid continue their interactions, they hear someone in the village beating a fulling block.
The fulling block was used to beat the silk of a robe to restore its luster (Tyler 159). As the Wife
hears the beating of the fulling block she is reminded of a tale:
"In China, a man named Sobu was taken captive by the Huns. Imagining him lying sleepless
through the cold nights, the wife and child he had left behind climbed a high tower and beat a fulling
block. And perhaps the message of their love did reach him, for Sobu in his

Personal Narrative On The Field
My palms were sweaty as I began the process of gearing up for what was ahead of me. The many
ideas of what I could possibly accomplish today were whirling around in my head. One beat up shin
guard after another, I covered them with a crystal clear white sock to match the dark colored jersey. I
took a deep breath lacing up my new cleats I've been longing to wear out. The talk from around me
was not my focus at the moment, so I stood quietly and put in my ear buds. Soon enough my nerves
got the best of me, my fingers started to trace over my shorts and my long chestnut brown hair was
occasionally twiddled with. I slung my bag over my shoulder and my cleats hit the hard ground. We
gathered in two perfectly straight lines and followed the captains to the nicely cut green. I could
smell the victory into what I had worked so hard for, yet the stress that led up to this made me
believe otherwise. The booming music from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

fidgeting on the bench. I gripped my fingers beneath the wood until my knuckles were bleached
white. I picked at the maroon paint that lined my seat to bring my mind somewhere else. The
numerous digits sprinted past me leaving me with a gust of air. I was surrounded by the constant
cheering of fans from all around.
My last name was shouted from my left and my body immediately cascaded from the bench to the
bright sideline. The man in the striped shirt waved me over from the other side of the elongated
field. This was my chance, all the sweat and tears from preseason would finally pay off. My hand

Beat Countercultural Movement Essay
To say that the Beat generation has affected modern culture seems at first to be no great revelation;
it is inevitable that any period of history will affect the time that follows. The Beat generation is
especially significant, though, because of its long lasting impact on American culture. Many aspects
of modern American culture can be directly attributed to the Beat writers, primarily Allen Ginsburg,
William Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Jack Kerouac. (Asher) Their influence has changed the
American perception of obscenity, has had profound effects on American music and literature, and
has modified the public's views on such topics as sex and drug use. The label "Beat Generation" was
first publicized in a 1952 New York Times Magazine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many lines in Howl would have been considered obscene by the standards of his time, especially,
"who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy." (Howl)
Prior to 1957, obscenity was legally defined as anything that "has a substantial tendency to deprave
or corrupt its readers by inciting lascivious thoughts or arousing lustful desires." (Obscenity) Since
much of Howl is concerned with illicit drug use and sexual deviancy, it clearly meets these
requirements. Now, however, no second thought is given to works such as "Howl." Our culture has
changed so drastically that not only has what was once considered obscene become accepted, but it
has been raised to the status of literature. The Beatniks, as they eventually came to be known, also
had a strong influence on music and literature. The artists of the then–emerging musical style of
rock and roll, such figures as the Beatles and Bob Dylan, were affected by the movement. In fact,
"Beatles" was spelled with an "a" because of Kerouac's influence on John Lennon. Paul McCartney
played guitar for one of Ginsberg's albums. Bob Dylan toured with Ginsberg, and considered
Ginsberg and Kerouac both to be major influences. Many of the themes of rock and roll

Outkast's Song 'Misfit Today, Icon Tomorrow'
"Misfit today, Icon tomorrow" The song Hey Yeah is written and sung by Outkast's Andre 3000.
Anyone who has ever the song knows how incredibly happy the beat sounds and the lyrics appear
but it is not until you shut off the music that you truly begin to understand the dark tale being told.
The artist himself even says in the song," Y'all don't want me here you just want to dance." He is
saying you are so distracted listening to the upbeat rhythm and exciting dance theme you never
realize that the artist is sharing a sad but lesson about relationships and the roots of the lyrics you
can see are motivate by his own life experience of living in home with strong love. So ultimately no
one who is into songs really understands him there making him feel like a pariah or his words, an
Outkast. All of this is discretely exposed in hyper and inspirational method in the song which is
misleading but tells you that even if faced with walls you can get around them and still make it big
in life if you really care about it. Whether or not people understand your passion, drive, goals and
ambition is up to them, all you can decide is how you carry yourself. The lyrics to "Hey Yeah" ...

give everything a chance because there can be a first time for everything no matter what it is.

My Adventure : A Special Adventure
A Special Adventure
I was walking into the kitchen about to get a snack, when I heard a familiar voice shouting to me,
"Sadie, guess what? I got tickets to a Britt Nicole concert!" my BFFTLEWE (best friend for totally–
like–ever without exception), Macey, beamed happily. "My parents said that I could take a friend!"
While she kept going on about how much fun it would be to go, I kept thinking to myself. Will she
pick me? Will I get to go to that concert to see one of my favorite stars perform? I really want to go
to that! "So, who are you going to have come with you?" I asked with a very unsteady, yet curious,
hopeful tone. "You obviously!!" she replied with an "I thought that was clear" tone. It felt like the
weight of the world was lifted off my shoulders when she told me this, but what happened next was
a nightmare. When I arrived at my house later that night, I had explained to my parents about the
concert that Macey invited me to.
"Please let me go!!!" I begged.
"No," my mother strictly answered.
"Why not? This isn't fair!"
"Because your sister doesn't get to go," she calmly, yet rigorously replied. That's when I walked to
my room, and decided not to tell Macey until tomorrow.
The next day, I went to Macey's house.
"Why can't you come," she asked me.

The beat of my heart thumps harder by the second as my high school volleyball coach announces at

award within the Wright County. After playing volleyball for eight years as a setter, assisting 1,134

mentally and physically I knew there might be a chance I had a shot at getting one of the two
awards. However my hardworking, and valuable teammates are just as talented.
Captain, starting libero, and MVP Skyler Wallisch can get low and pick up anything. She's my right
hand as a setter, I can rely on her to get the first pass up to me. She is a very important player and
has different colored jersey to signify her position as a libero on the court. Also Co–Captain Ashley
Fuhrmann has a good chance at getting one of the awards. She can jump really high for her height,
and swing fast. Many of my assists came from her. The Honorable Mention Award is given to a
player whose name was brought up, and signified as a valuable athlete in a meeting held with all the
Wright County volleyball coaches. The All–Conference Award is handed out to six players out of

Beats: A Music Analysis
In music, the beat is what someone's tapping foot or clapping hands respond to. It is defined as "a
regular, recurrent pulsation that divides music into equal units of time" 1. In marching or rock
music, the beat can be easily felt and is powerful. It can happen every quarter of a second; and even
up to every one and a half seconds. Beats are important to composers because they, "form the
background against which the composer places notes of varying lengths"1. Without a beat, all notes
could not be measured, because beats are used as a basic unit of time.
Rhythm is how music flows through time. Specifically, rhythm is defined as, "the particular
arrangement of note lengths in a piece of music"1. An interesting aspect of rhythm is that it has the
ability to flow freely, and it can match the beat at some time or not at all. Rhythm of a melody is
important to a music piece, because it is what gives the music personality.
Meter is defined as, "the organization of beats into regular groups"1. Based on the number of beats
in a measure, there are many types of beats. A duple meter is a measure that as two beats. A triple
meter has a pattern of three beats. The highest beat count is a septuplet meter, which has seven beats

A tempo can be considered fast or slow. A fast tempo is "associated with a feeling of energy, drive,

ten different Italian tempo markings that tells what the dynamic of the tempo is. For example, the a
moderately slow tempo is called andante, while a tempo that is as fast as possible is called
prestissimo. The reason why there are so many tempo markings, is because it's important to be
specific as possible when indicating the amount of tempo in music. However, it is not possible to

Negative Effects Of Listening To Music
Introduction Stress is one of the most common symptom of life. No one knows how to treat it. There
has been no "forever" cure. Only ways to prevent it, short–term. Listening to music has always been
beneficial to a person's health through stress–reducing effects (Thoma et al., 2017). This is
comprised of: the decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, the ability to worry less about what has
happened and more on the future. Stress varies with the heart rate therefore, when a high rate equal
higher stress than if the heart rate was low. Another benefit is that you are able to concentrate better
and increase productivity, as you aren't focusing on what has already happened (Psych Central,
2017). This is where a chain of events are set off after experiencing any stressful situation (Heart,
2017). Stress has a direct correlation to the heart rate and its ability to change suddenly. The body
releases the adrenaline causing your breathing and heart rate accelerates as well as blood pressure to
rise incredibly (Heart, 2017). These factors cause your body to react in a similar way to the 'fight or
flight' response. This prepares your body and mind to deal with the results of the situation at hand
(Heart, 2017). Ways to help reduce stress levels including music involve: singing or shouting along
to music as it is a great tension releaser, (Psych Central, 2017) also playing an instrument has been
used as a strategy to deal with stress, as well as just simply listening to music (MSU

The Beat Movement And Kerouac's On The Road
The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers.
The word beat originally meant "weary" but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of
this movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular
work and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs.
Works that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg's long, free verse poem, Howl,
published in 1956, and Jack Kerouac's novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957.
Alan Freed's listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that
grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock 'n' roll. In the early and
mid–1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis
Presley brought rock 'n' roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who
bought their records. Elvis Presley, the unofficial "King of Rock 'n' Roll," first developed his
musical style by singing in church and listening to gospel, country, and blues music on the radio in
Memphis, Tennessee. Not surprisingly, many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Berry managed to achieve crossover appeal with white youths without alienating his black fans by
mixing blues and R&B sounds with storytelling that spoke to the universal themes of youth. In the
late 1950s, songs such as "Johnny B. Goode,"Sweet Little Sixteen" and "Carol" all managed to
crack the Top 10 of the pop charts by achieving equal popularity with youths on both sides of the
racial divide. "I made records for people who would buy them," Berry said. "No color, no ethnic, no

A Writers Beat: A Type of Expression Essay
When people are asked the question, what is beat? The usual definition one might think of would be
as the main accent in music and poetry. It also might be defined as the act of hurting or defeating
someone. But beat is not just all about the flow of music or to strike another person. Beat is also a
type of expression, whether in writing, music, or art, it is about being free or having the freedom to
do what is in one's mind. It is all about disaffection and non–conformity. Beat is about being
yourself and not being forced with the compliance with the living standards of society. Beat is about
breaking boundaries, opening up and letting free of oneself. Beat sparked in the early 1950s with a
group of writers who wrote about the cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Kerouac has also published other novels that are prominently about drugs and poverty. Buddhism
has also influenced the Beat writing in so many ways. The concept of having an open–minded view
and perspective, questioning the restriction of the government, religion and other official
establishments. Beat has also been adapted in many different ways. Beat was considered being
different; but now, everyone strive to be different from one another. It has affected the current
generation, and how everyone wants to do their own thing, and everyone thinks differently now. It
has come to the point that there is no unity in people. Everyone has different opinions. Everyone has
their own story to tell to the point that no one is willing to listen to anyone anymore. People are all
bombarded with these ideas about being a better person, that everyone strives to be that one thing,
that people forget about the real meaning of the Beat, to be yourself, and not conform with the
society. It is good how everyone has that freedom to say what they want to say, but sometimes
people do not have any filter, and tend to hurt other people. They abuse the excuse that just because
they have the right to do something, that it is okay to do it without any repercussions. Beat has been
misinterpreted. Modern music these days has no influence of the Beat. Every other song in the radio
has a swear word on them. It either would be about abuse, violence, drug, sex, or

The world whizzed past me in the comfort of the car, the cold blanket of air unable to reach my pale
skin through closed windows and blasting heaters. The radio was quiet, the music providing
ambience on top of the rumbling of the car's engine. The last beat of the current song ended, filling
the car with silence. After a few heartbeats, on came the next song, and I turned my head to look at
the radio, hand outstretching to turn the dial up. As the strong, pulsing notes of the electric guitar
filled my car, a smile came on to my face. It pulled me back, all those years ago, to a night I was
ready to party and had hoped it would never end. The song had only just been released and radios
everywhere played it, announcing so very often that tonight would be a good, a wonderful, an
exciting night. I stared out the window, bouncing in my seat to the beat. Up came my school, a
lively hub of parents and schoolchildren alike, despite the time of night. As soon as the car came to a
stop, I flew out, clutching my ticket in my hand and leaving my poor mother to chase after me with
my spending money and jacket. My eyes scanned the steady scream of schoolmates flowing in to
the hall, absentmindedly reaching out to take my money and jacket as I joined the line. My mum
gave me a hug, a kiss, a farewell, and then left me in the line, eagerly hopping from foot to foot as I
moved closer to the music. As it came my turn to greet the bouncer, I handed him my ticket with
excitement and pride. He looked it over, crossed me off the list, and then, taking my right hand,
pressed an orange stamp to the skin. I admired it, bold and in the shape of a ticket, and watched out
of the corner of my eye as he gestured me inside. I straightened up, raised one foot, and passed the
line from quiet night to booming disco. The party had begun. I found my friends and joined them,
forgetting the world as I lost myself to the music. We yelled along to the lyrics we knew, grabbed
hands and formed a circle of nothing but pure, childish fun. We joined the conga line, played in the
bubbles, and staggered carefully under the limbo bar until we lost balance and crashed to the ground
in a giggling heap. Several hours had passed when my stomach

American Literature : The Beat Generation
A form of literature evolved around the 50s that changed the course for all writers to come. This new
style of writing arose from the literature movement known as the Beat Generation. It motivated a
change. During this time the authors questioned societal norms and were unafraid to address
previously forbidden topics such as sex, drugs, and other deviant behaviors or in other words the
"dark" aspects of life. These writers not only wrote but experienced much of what they penned.
They often lived the disapproved lifestyle about which they translated for the public to read. Thanks
to the Beat Generation discrimination and other issues alike were forced to be addressed. They were
the spark for change. The Beat Generation was a generation that wanted to see a change in the
structure of society and significantly impacted different art forms, especially literature.
The Beat Generation was an advancement in societal views. During this time period, many people
began to question the rules of society. The Beat Generation was a movement which propelled
change in the views of conservative America. Many confuse the beatniks of the 60s with the original
beat movement. Actually, the beat generation took place in the 1940s and 1950s right after World
War II ("Beat"). This era was the start of the Cold War which was referred to as the Red Scare. The
Government was worried about loyalty to the U.S. and the threat of communists, also known as

Pumped U Kicks Analysis
Title – 'Pumped Up Kicks'
Pumped u kicks is a great pop number by indie pop American band named Foster the People. Mark
Foster (the lead vocalist of the band) has written and recorded the song while working as a
commercial writer. The song came out in September 2010 and it was actually a debut by the group
members of the band. As a musical composition, the song Pumped up Kicks worked wonders as it
got much fame in lesser time. The track managed to touch many hearts because of its lyrics.
My first interpretation about this song was depressing and initially, I perceived the lyrics as silly.

The second time around when I listened the song from different perspective, I understood what
exactly the lyricist and the singer is trying to convey throughout. I perceived that the song is not
giving any wrong message; rather it is trying to open the eyes of the populace through giving a
grand message. It somewhat portrays that the mental condition of children becomes worse when
they find themselves isolated and when they realize that they are not loved by anybody. Therefore,
they fall prey into bad companies and bad habits. Negativity allures them much more than the other
positive things of society. Then they are no more able to understand the difference between anything
good or bad. The song was written from dogmatic youth with vicious thoughts, where the victim
Robert is someone around whom the lyrics and the entire song revolve. "Robert's got a quick hand,
He'll look around the room; he won't tell you his plan". With the help of this name, the plight of
every young kid has been told. I felt that the song gives a massage to the parents of teenagers that
how youth behaves and prevails in the outer world, especially when they start growing and
fostering. Moreover, how quickly they get indulge to so many bad habits. "He's got a rolled
cigarette, hanging out his mouth he's a cowboy kid, Yeah found a six shooter gun In his dad's closet
hidden oh in a box of fun things, I don't even know." The lyrics speaks itself like every now and
then, young children start finding their source of fun and time pass in those useless things such as
smoking cigarettes at very early age, playing with guns, hanging out unnecessarily, and this is what
attracts them much more than anything useful. This is the age when children get so quick in doing
any task, they get so impulsive and impatient in completing anything. In my

Noah had snuck out plenty of times, but never with a camera in his hand. By now, he had the
process down to a science, how to slip away and return unnoticed, how to convince his mother he

truth and threatened to bring his operations to an end. All of them were so distracted anyway, caught
up in their own thunderstorm, whisked away on their own adventures and not noticing the saga they
could be participating in, the ultimate adventure if only they all dared. His mother went to sleep at
midnight, and she wasn't going to wake up. She downed more than her fair share of a wine bottle at

mark, the sins and wrongdoings splitting him further. Angie had to be an angel, because while her
family was shattered and even her own little brother was splintering, she slept until dawn. She was
going to a college, a good one, and because of her diligence and her brains, she wouldn't drown in
loans. Next to the front door, Noah had propped a backpack up against the wall. From it, he fished
out car keys, hissing as they crashed against each other. He packed his car halfway down the block
tonight so his mother wouldn't hear it as it scuffled down the driveway, see the headlights as he sped

sent another glance towards upstairs, to his mother's bedroom. She would hate him for this. She
would destroy him for this. "Noah." It wasn't a question, but something true and certain. It came

Apple, Inc., The Electronics And Beats Music
Apple acquires Beats. Apple, Inc., the electronics giant, has acquired Beats Music and Beats
Electronics, the headphones giant, for $3.2 billion. Apple has enough money to buy or build any
company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats
Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company "could
build about anything that you could dream of," adding that acquiring Beats would give them a "head
start" and add "kindred spirits" to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience
that both Dr. Dre, a well–known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the
Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip–hop
and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats
Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer
market for high–end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service.
The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards
streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads –– which iTunes dominates ––
dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora
and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of
America (CBS News/AP, 2014).

Entertainment not only consists of movies, music, and television but also literature. The beat
generation spoke against how materialistic people were, and they just simply spoke up that is why
they were seen as rebels. "In the world of literature and art, the Beats stood in opposition to the
clean, almost antiseptic formalism of the early twentieth century Modernist,"(The Beat Generation)
that is what the Beat generation stood up for. Where literature had a turning point was in 1956 when

Language, Language And Language
Have you ever listened to someone from another country speak English? A lot of times, people
speaking a second language will pronounce things a little differently than native speakers, or they
will talk at a different rhythm. Languages have their own pace, places where you expect people to
pause or speed up or articulate more clearly. We call this part of language an accent. People
speaking a secondary language may have a foreign accent, while those speaking a native tongue
have a local accent. Music is a lot like this. Musical rhythms tend to have natural accents, emphases
on certain notes within a meter. Just like fitting in with a new culture requires learning their accent,
accents are essential to understand musical conversation.
Metric Accents
Accents in music can appear in a few basic forms. Let 's start with the simplest. In many languages,
parts of speech contain natural accents. In Spanish for example, the last syllable is naturally
emphasized in most words. Music is the same in that there are natural accents within every score.
Every musical composition is divided into measures, units of a set number of beats, and certain
beats naturally carry more emphasis than others. The most important is the downbeat, the first beat
of a measure. The downbeat is always naturally accented, so there is no need to provide an accent
mark over it. We call an accent that occurs naturally in a measure a metric accent. In most Western
music, the first and third beats have metric

Kerouac corresponds to the "Beat Generation" of 1950's. Both of these generations were after wars.
It is not coincidence, wars make people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and
pain through literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote
songs, which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the most talented

I'd just tromper you with everybody. You couldn't stand it" (p.62). Jake is lost; he could not fully
realize himself as a normal man. This problem means that he could not have sex, he could not marry,
and finally he could not have a normal family with children. All of these problems made him get
drunk often, as alcohol helped him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn
asked him: "Don't you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you're not taking
advantage of it? Do you realize that you've lived nearly half the time you have to live already?" and
he answers, "Yes, every once in a while." (p.30). So, alcohol was an escape from his problems and

Literary Devices In Ed Sheeran's Give Me Love Song
Knowingly or not, poems are either read or listened to each day, usually as a song. Poetry comes in a
variety of forms, but what many are not aware of, is that songs are also a form of poetry. Songs are
poems just placed with a beat behind it. They are made up with the goals to affect the listener with
their words and song structure. One songwriter, Ed Sheeran, builds his songs using several literary
devices. At first listen to one of his songs, Give Me Love, it can be interpreted as another love song.
But after reviewing the lyrics, it can be noticed that he brings his words to life through specific
diction, a certain mood, and a theme to bring the words to life. Analyzing any poem or song can give
the reader a deeper understanding, or sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theme is the story or message that the author is trying to send through his work, to the readers. In
this case, Ed Sheeran is trying to get the theme of this song across by the conflict in the storyline, his
use of epimone and the tone of the song. At a first listen to Give Me Love, it seems like any other
love anthem. But a deeper analyzes revels that there is conflict in his words and heart. He starts off
singing the first line of the song, which is "Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up
alone". It can already be brought to attention the he is in need and feeling alone. The song goes on
and he is struggling for the love of his partner. He says "I just wanna hold ya" right after stating that
he'll give in to calling her once he is drunk. In the line "give a little time to me or burn this out", Ed
is asking for another chance, to give it one more time or to give it up. Yet in the line "it's been a
while but I still feel the same, maybe I should let you go" he is conflicted within himself. He still
loves her, he is willing to take another chance at love but he knows time has passed and maybe it's
time to move on. An epimone is commonly used when attempting to make a point. It is when a word
or phrase is repeated to show emphasis on it. When Sheeran sings "give me love" repeatedly in the
chorus, and shouts "love me!" at the end, it comes through as despair. He constantly repeats it for the
purpose of showing that he is begging for love. The persistence in his voice is accompanied by and
undertone of hurt and anger, which can also be conveyed ad the theme to this song. That being said,
because of the way he shouts certain words and softly speaks other words, it gives the theme a very
specific tone. When listening to Sheeran recites his lyrics, the tone at the begging is very calm, sad
and understanding, he is asking for love again. By the end of the song the tone changes to furious
and passionate, he is

My Favorite Toy
When I look back to my childhood I try to think of toys that I played that helped my development
move along. The one toy that I remember is the "see and say", a toy that looked like a wheel with
multiple pictures, every time I would pull the string it would stop at a picture and make the sound of
the animal shown. This toy helped with assimilation and accommodation. With the increase in
technology and knowledge toys have become much more advanced. As I walked down the toy aisle
and played with multiple bright, loud and fun toys, it was hard to choose a specific toy to research.
There was a variety of toys and games; including playing mats with buttons, sing along chairs and
bath time fun toys. The toy that stood out to me the most was the bright beats, dance and moves beat
Bo. The fact that it was colorful and shaped like a cute animal caught my eye quickly. As I played
with the toy a pushed multiple buttons it played songs and moved to the beats, just like me. The toy
also recited the ABCs and counted many numbers. The final aspect of the beat Bo is an ability to
record your voice and remix it into a fun song; this sealed the deal for me. The toy is manufactured

Michael Jackson – "Beat It"
In 2009, we lost one of the greatest entertainers in music history, however his music still lives on,
inspiring and touching people's heart. I have always been a fan of Michael Jackson, and the reason
why I picked this song is because it presents a strong message. Not only did
Jackson make a powerful statement with his lyrics, he also made one with his choice of rhythm and
beats. The guitars and drums that were used, give the song a dramatic rock vibe. According to music

The second verse talks about making the right choice to just go away instead of shedding blood, and
trying to be a tough guy. The third verse simply describes that even if one chooses to walk away, it
is better to be alive than to risk it. The fourth verse in my opinion talks about the consequences of
fighting and that if one chooses to be violent, chances are that they will get hurt.
As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although "No One wants To Be
Defeated." It is better to go because in the end "It Doesn't Matter Who is Wrong Or Right."
Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead
of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts).
As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize the
meaning of the song. I heard a police siren which could symbolize that if you get involved with
gangs and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing
sounds. The breathing sounds could represent the sound of someone running away and catching a
breath. I could detect sounds as if someone was getting punched and sounds of blades which could
represent a fight. While searching for different meanings of the song I came across an interesting

Hip Hop Music: Beat-Making
Beat making, specifically hip hop, was born out of poor communities. The urban ghetto is the home
of hip hop. With little or no money to buy instruments, young people looked at other ways to make
music. In the 70's, the turntable became the new instrument for creating scratches, loops, breaks, and
beats. DJs exploited its uses frequently. In 1979, the first digital sampler and drum machine was
produced by Roger Linn, the Linn LM–1. The next year (1980), the Roland TR–808 drum machine
would become one of the most popular electronic instruments, helping to produce more hit records

Similarities Between Beatniks And Hipsters
The subcultures "Beatniks" and "Hipsters" have proven to media and society that they have an urge
for individualism. This is not something that has gone unnoticed by anyone, especially in the 1950's
with the beatniks. As a rise in each of their cultures, they have both experienced harsh criticism,
attacking their style and how they approach life. There are many different views on how beatniks
and hipsters lived/live their lives. Today, it is easy to tell the differences and similarities between
beatniks and hipsters, because there are many of them. The Beat Movement, beginning in the

The beatniks had a different outlook on how to deal with problems and tragedy in society. Most of
the ways this idea of "change", came about was through articles, literature, films, and music. This
made the message of the Beat Movement spread across quickly. Whether it was bad or good news,
the beatniks were still getting publicity through the media. The media today still plays an important
role when learning about the beatniks of the 1950's. Their interpretation of these individuals led
most of society to make absurd assumptions about them. For example, they were accused of being
Communists and even homosexuals. Instead of sugar–coating their lives like most Americans
resulted to, the beatniks chose an alternative. They went about their lives in a calm way, and
approached life with realistic destinations in a spontaneous manner. Although, their main purpose,
from what I've collected, was to stand out or be "cultural escape artists" (Carney, Jay), the end result
was the opposite. The beatnik population grew increasingly throughout the years and became once
again, what everyone else was doing. The movement was something that people saw as extreme, but
the beatniks' actions, whether it was intentional or not, were the stepping stones into a different view

Bollywood Beats : The Music Of Bollywood Music
Bollywood Beats
Bollywood music has been an integral part of my childhood. This is largely due to the fact that all
Bollywood films are essentially musicals. Each movie has up to four if not more musical numbers
with synchronized, colorful choreography. I learned much of the Hindi language and South Asian
culture by watching these Bollywood movies. I found a sense of identity through listening to the
music within these films.
Before developing my own taste in music, I was already listening to music from these movies. My
parent immigrated to the United States from India and although I was born in American, I am still
very connected to my heritage. Growing up I recall my mom in the kitchen, garlic, turmeric along
with many other Indian spices with names I don't know in English, filled the air. My dad always
kept the TV on with Bollywood music videos playing. I heard and watched the beautiful Indian
women on the big TV screen moving their hips to the music. My sister often imitated the folks on
the screen and tried to convince me to follow, but I preferred spinning in circles by myself.
Often folks ask me what my favorite type of music is. I answer with Bollywood music and this
suffices for folks but in realness, I have a hard time describing the diversity of Bollywood music.
There is versatility: upbeat, soft, slow, classics and traditional. There are many genres of Hindi
music, but I think I enjoy it most because it is in Hindi. I enjoy hearing a different language and

Life's Life
Let me ask you a question.
Are you working to live, or living to work?
There was a study done, a hospital study on 100 elderly people facing death close to their last
breath. They were asked to reflect about their life's biggest regret.
Nearly all of them said they regretted not the things they did but the things they didn't do.
The chances they never took, because they were too scared, too tired, too busy, too broke.
Studies show that you will spend 92 120 hours of your life, working.
Let me say that again... you will spend 92 120 hours of your life, working.

The footage included in the ad encompasses the undiscovered aspects of Australia, many of which
are natural. Opening with the ocean, our largest source to attract tourists, gentle waves can be heard.
It then shows a woman looking out over a view of Cape Schanck, and a relaxing beat begins to play
as we are shown the breathtaking view, creating a desire by the audience, to be there and experience
it firsthand. We circle a rock, gradually zooming out to a birds–eye view of the vast blue sea,
symbolising that there is so much more about Australia, people have yet to experience. The footage
then swaps to show a green rainforest, a sunset, ocean, grass, sky, Australia's natural beauty
capturing the audience's attention. An uplifting beat grows louder, as we then swap to footage of
people doing the variety of activities and unique experiences we offer. Things such as a walk along
the beach, sandboarding, a slide into a lake, a step into Aboriginal culture, the city and the surf or
simply the fact that you can go anywhere in thongs. The range of activities appeals to our large
target audience, as something for everyone, no matter the age. We follow a group of friends as they
walk out into the beach, then change to a birds eye view of the group and then zoom out to see the
gorgeous Whitsundays beach. The beat drops as we switch Mumbulla Falls and a GoPro sliding
down the rocks into the creek, giving our audience an adrenalin

Music Is More Than Just Carrying A Tune Or Beat
Mastering how to sing is more than just carrying a tune or beat, it is about learning to handle the
critics. Music is all based on opinions and is a make or break industry. Going through high school
and now in college, I can look back and thank my middle school choir teacher for building my
confidence and back bone. It all began at eleven years old when I realized my passion for singing
and thus, joined the middle school choir.
The first day of choir, through the door lumbered in this enraged, irritable woman and the sight of
her immediately caused the whole room to go silent. In such a harsh tone she demanded, "Sit down
and shut your mouths!" Taking a closer look at my choir teacher, I noticed her short black hair that
she later stated, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Numerous times, I sang and each time, she wouldn't say anything; no smile or discontentment.
Reading the list of solo names, I would be upset, but I kept going, not understanding the truth or
reason behind why she never chose me.
The hatred she held for me became clear during the beginning of my sixth grade year when I began
auditioning for the musical. Surprisingly, I got a part, but when the lead backed out, she had to open
auditions again. Knowing this information, I stepped up, to later find out I was the only one who had
stepped forward and of course, was ignored. The new lead ended up being a classmate of mine, who
had never been in choir or a play before. My frightened attitude towards this teacher became anger
and this was only the beginning of the teacher's wrath against me. Next came the belittling and
harassment, which began in seventh grade. My middle school's clothing policy was strict but
common; skirt must be arm length, shoulders must be covered, and etc. To the choir teacher, this
was not the case. Each day, if felt as though she would make it her mission to humiliate my outfit
choices even when in many cases, I was standing next to another girl in a provocative outfit. I
remember it was Mid–October, when I wore an orange t–shirt with black leggings and a mini skirt
over. Mind you, I had seen my parents before I left the house and both of them approved. To this
day, I still can feel her masculine and intimidating hands grasp

Carnatic Music

  • 1. Carnatic Music Introduction 1. The hippie subculture was originally a youth movement that arose in the United States during the mid–1960s and spread to other countries around the world. 2. The word 'hippie' came from hipster, and was initially used to describe beatniks who had moved into New York City's Greenwich Village and San Francisco's Haight–Ashbury district. 3. The origins of the terms hip and hep are uncertain, though by the 1940s both had become part of African American jive slang and meant "sophisticated; currently fashionable; fully up–to–date". 4. The Beats adopted the term hip, and early hippies inherited the language and countercultural values of the Beat Generation. 5. Hippies created their own communities, listened to psychedelic rock, ... Between 1896 and 1908, a German youth movement arose as a countercultural reaction to the organized social and cultural clubs that centered around German folk music. Ethos and characteristics 1. Hippies sought to free themselves from societal restrictions, choose their own way, and find new meaning in life. 2. One expression of hippie independence from societal norms was found in their standard of dress and grooming, which made hippies instantly recognizable to one another, and served as a visual symbol of their respect for individual rights. 3. Through their appearance, hippies declared their willingness to question authority, and distanced themselves from the "straight" and "square" (i.e., conformist) segments of society. 4. Personality traits and values that hippies tend to be associated with are "altruism and mysticism, honesty, joy and nonviolence". Their Psychedelic Rock concert posters were inspired by Art Nouveau, Victoriana, Dada, and Pop Art. The "Fillmore Posters" were among the most notable of the time. • 3. Impact On The British Invasion The British Invasion took place during the mid–1960's. British musicians began to look toward their American counterparts for inspiration, copying their styles and advertising to fans in the United States. By this point, British youth had been interested in American rock and roll since the 1950's, captivated by its pronounced beats and suggestive lyrics (Robbins). However, Britain did not have the same musical background as the United States. In the States, rock and roll emerged from a coalescence of Country and Western, Rhythm and Blues, and Pop music (Stuessy). Because of this, rock from the United States had deep roots, while rock from Britain before the mid–1960's lacked depth and was simply an imitation. Eventually, rock began to take off in Britain from two main locations: Liverpool and London. This music became insanely popular in both Britain and the United States (Robbins). When studying the British Invasion, it is important to analyze the musical differences between Liverpool and London, as well as look at why this music became so popular in the United States. Due to Britain's obsession with rock and roll, skiffle became popular once again. Skiffle is a type of music originating from jug bands and requires minimal instruments. Many skiffle bands used a guitar, banjo, and rudimentary instruments such as a kazoo (Williams). The ever–popular Beatles got their start as a skiffle band titled The Quarrymen in the town of Liverpool, England. The Quarrymen was formed in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For us to understand the poem it is necessary for us to understand the history behind the poem. '' Howl '' was published in 1956, right after the devastating World War II. After WWII that's when the American dream was in full force throughout the whole world. Many Immigrants were trying to migrate to the US at that time for a better living. At the same time media was becoming big and powerful gaining trust from citizens while television was on its peak being the most important part of the media growth as it exported an immense number news to consumers. While Americans were busy with the new experience of having, news transmitted to them on the comfort of their houses, others worked hard to get a movement started, from the streets, to the bars at night. A group of poets would gather together to express their arts of literature written by them. Ginsberg's '' Howl '' was Beat generation's first heartbeat, as the poem was first performed at Six Gallery in San Francisco in 1955 it was the moment when Beat generation was built. As the poem was published in 1955 with the City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco, the poem was considered one of the best American poem to be performed. Yes, It was me, a promising young producer with a passion for music.By the time I was 14, I was marketing and selling beats online. At a young age, I began surrounding myself with other producers and audio engineers, and as a result, I began to learn useful techniques to become more successful. It is quite difficult being a consistent music producer, therefore, I am compelled to work diligently to diversify my music. Because of my experiences with music I've grown to have exceedingly strong traits of versatility and commitment. I've also become remarkably resilient to hardships. I fell in love with making beats and I was ecstatic to find out that there was a career that could further develop my skills. My love for beats keeps me dedicated to becoming one of the best producers, even if it takes a long time. This dedication allowed me to not only be committed to my music, but also, to everything I do. This devotion also caused me to become a tenacious individual that doesn't let any obstacle interfere with my goals Being in high school often presented me with many adversities. Fresno is a very beautiful diverse small town with about 19,000 populations. The Blacks and African Americans are the major population right next to the Hispanics population. The citydata.com states that the Hispanics are the second largest group living in Fresno. On the race chart, they are 33.1 percent making them about 6,318 residents. I enjoyed taking these walk on the neighborhood streets because it brings so many memories. Life had made it that sometimes we can be so busy with work or school that we tend to miss the little things that life has to offer; the fresh air reminds me of my high school days. I went to Hightower High School located here at Fresno and my school consists of African Americans and Hispanics so I enjoyed the best of both worlds and cultures. As I walk past my old high school, I noticed that the school buses were parked outside ready to pick up the students to take them back home. It is very easy to notice the diversity of students, which consists of blacks and Hispanic plus few others races. I also noticed the closeness of the two dominate race. I see a couple of interracial couples amongst the students. Personally, I love to see the harmony of different race coming together as one or at least accepting and learning from each other. I think that the world will be a much better place if we can all accept and love each other as we love ourselves. It is very easy to find this pure love amongst the younger generations then the older generations. On a lighter note, I think that the community should expand a little more. The community needs more infrastructure, more developments, middle schools, businesses and organizations. • 13. Youth Culture And Subculture Developed Youth culture existed before the Second World War and it did not suddenly appear after 1945. However, it emerged after that time for various reasons that will be explained later on this essay. There were many factors of how youth culture and subculture developed such as: demographic changes, National Service, education and raising the school leaving age, the economic period and music. And these factors also helped shape people's experiences of them. B Demographic changes were the first and one of the reasons why youth culture created such anxiety. Because of survived married soldiers coming back from the Second World War, there was a 'baby boom', which meant that the number of people under twenty grew from 3 million in 1951 to 4 million in 1966. (Osgerby, 2005) B There were two changes that happened and established youth as a group with certain needs and problems. The first one was Butler's education act of 1944, and that raised the school leaving age from 12 to 14. Further changes were made in 1947 raising it to 15 and 16 in 1972. Which meant that it allowed children to go to secondary school. The second change was the development of youth services such as youth clubs, which made these young people do something useful in their leisure. (Osgerby, 2005) B Another factor that helped shape the development of youth culture was the introduction of the National Service in 1948 and that conscripted ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Essay on Analysis of Kinuta Kinuta, which is also known as The Fulling Block, is a noh play written by Zeami. The characters, which appear in this play, are: The Husband, a local squire (waki), His Sword–bearer (wakizure), A maid, Yugiri (tsure), The Wife (maeshite), A Manservant (ai), and The Spirit of the wife, after her death (nochijite). The Jo, or introduction of the play, begins with the very first line of the Husband (waki), because it establishes the basis of the play and introduces the shite, or the Wife: "You have before you a squire from Ashiya in Kyushu. Presently I am staying in Miyako, where I have a lawsuit of mine to look after. Although I had not thought I would be in Miyako long, this year is already my third, and I am very worried about my wife ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This separation has caused the Wife to encounter anxiety, which led her to believe that her husband no longer loves her. Furthermore, the play's duality of love and hatred is established. As the play continues, the Wife's psychological state is further revealed and it is evident that she is no longer in her right mind. "...Were they a dream, these three autumn years; were they a dream, these three autumn years; I should wake from sorrow, yet do not" (Tyler 162). Here, the Wife is no longer able to distinguish her reality from her dreams. I do not find fault with her anxieties, absent state of mind, and beliefs that her husband no longer loved her, because in the past, if a husband did not return to the wife after three years, it was believed that the couple was divorced. Later in the play, as the Wife and the Maid continue their interactions, they hear someone in the village beating a fulling block. The fulling block was used to beat the silk of a robe to restore its luster (Tyler 159). As the Wife hears the beating of the fulling block she is reminded of a tale: "In China, a man named Sobu was taken captive by the Huns. Imagining him lying sleepless through the cold nights, the wife and child he had left behind climbed a high tower and beat a fulling block. The many ideas of what I could possibly accomplish today were whirling around in my head. One beat up shin guard after another, I covered them with a crystal clear white sock to match the dark colored jersey. I took a deep breath lacing up my new cleats I've been longing to wear out. The talk from around me was not my focus at the moment, so I stood quietly and put in my ear buds. Soon enough my nerves got the best of me, my fingers started to trace over my shorts and my long chestnut brown hair was occasionally twiddled with. I slung my bag over my shoulder and my cleats hit the hard ground. We gathered in two perfectly straight lines and followed the captains to the nicely cut green. • 19. Beat Countercultural Movement Essay To say that the Beat generation has affected modern culture seems at first to be no great revelation; it is inevitable that any period of history will affect the time that follows. The Beat generation is especially significant, though, because of its long lasting impact on American culture. Many aspects of modern American culture can be directly attributed to the Beat writers, primarily Allen Ginsburg, William Burroughs, Neal Cassady, and Jack Kerouac. (Asher) Their influence has changed the American perception of obscenity, has had profound effects on American music and literature, and has modified the public's views on such topics as sex and drug use. The label "Beat Generation" was first publicized in a 1952 New York Times Magazine ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many lines in Howl would have been considered obscene by the standards of his time, especially, "who let themselves be fucked in the ass by saintly motorcyclists, and screamed with joy." (Howl) Prior to 1957, obscenity was legally defined as anything that "has a substantial tendency to deprave or corrupt its readers by inciting lascivious thoughts or arousing lustful desires." (Obscenity) Since much of Howl is concerned with illicit drug use and sexual deviancy, it clearly meets these requirements. Now, however, no second thought is given to works such as "Howl." Our culture has changed so drastically that not only has what was once considered obscene become accepted, but it has been raised to the status of literature. The Beatniks, as they eventually came to be known, also had a strong influence on music and literature. The artists of the then–emerging musical style of rock and roll, such figures as the Beatles and Bob Dylan, were affected by the movement. In fact, "Beatles" was spelled with an "a" because of Kerouac's influence on John Lennon. Paul McCartney played guitar for one of Ginsberg's albums. Bob Dylan toured with Ginsberg, and considered Ginsberg and Kerouac both to be major influences. Many of the themes of rock and roll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. Beats: A Music Analysis In music, the beat is what someone's tapping foot or clapping hands respond to. It is defined as "a regular, recurrent pulsation that divides music into equal units of time" 1. In marching or rock music, the beat can be easily felt and is powerful. It can happen every quarter of a second; and even up to every one and a half seconds. Beats are important to composers because they, "form the background against which the composer places notes of varying lengths"1. Without a beat, all notes could not be measured, because beats are used as a basic unit of time. Rhythm is how music flows through time. Specifically, rhythm is defined as, "the particular arrangement of note lengths in a piece of music"1. An interesting aspect of rhythm is that it has the ability to flow freely, and it can match the beat at some time or not at all. Rhythm of a melody is important to a music piece, because it is what gives the music personality. Meter is defined as, "the organization of beats into regular groups"1. • 33. Negative Effects Of Listening To Music Introduction Stress is one of the most common symptom of life. No one knows how to treat it. There has been no "forever" cure. Only ways to prevent it, short–term. Listening to music has always been beneficial to a person's health through stress–reducing effects (Thoma et al., 2017). This is comprised of: the decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, the ability to worry less about what has happened and more on the future. Stress varies with the heart rate therefore, when a high rate equal higher stress than if the heart rate was low. Another benefit is that you are able to concentrate better and increase productivity, as you aren't focusing on what has already happened (Psych Central, 2017). This is where a chain of events are set off after experiencing any stressful situation (Heart, 2017). Stress has a direct correlation to the heart rate and its ability to change suddenly. The body releases the adrenaline causing your breathing and heart rate accelerates as well as blood pressure to rise incredibly (Heart, 2017). These factors cause your body to react in a similar way to the 'fight or flight' response. This prepares your body and mind to deal with the results of the situation at hand (Heart, 2017). Ways to help reduce stress levels including music involve: singing or shouting along to music as it is a great tension releaser, (Psych Central, 2017) also playing an instrument has been used as a strategy to deal with stress, as well as just simply listening to music (MSU ... • 35. The Beat Movement And Kerouac's On The Road The beat movement is expressed the social and literary nonconformity of artists, poets, and writers. The word beat originally meant "weary" but came to refer as well to a musical beat. Followers of this movement, called beats or beatniks, lived nonconformist lives. They tended to shun regular work and sought a higher consciousness through Zen Buddhism, music, and, sometimes, drugs. Works that capture the essence of this era include Allen Ginsberg's long, free verse poem, Howl, published in 1956, and Jack Kerouac's novel of the movement, On the Road, published in 1957. Alan Freed's listeners responded enthusiastically, and Freed began promoting the new music that grew out of rhythm and blues and country and pop. He called the music rock 'n' roll. In the early and mid–1950s, Richard Penniman, Chuck Berry, Bill Haley and His Comets, and especially Elvis Presley brought rock 'n' roll to a frantic pitch of popularity among the newly affluent teens who bought their records. The radio was quiet, the music providing ambience on top of the rumbling of the car's engine. The last beat of the current song ended, filling the car with silence. After a few heartbeats, on came the next song, and I turned my head to look at the radio, hand outstretching to turn the dial up. My eyes scanned the steady scream of schoolmates flowing in to the hall, absentmindedly reaching out to take my money and jacket as I joined the line. My mum gave me a hug, a kiss, a farewell, and then left me in the line, eagerly hopping from foot to foot as I moved closer to the music. As it came my turn to greet the bouncer, I handed him my ticket with excitement and pride. He looked it over, crossed me off the list, and then, taking my right hand, pressed an orange stamp to the skin. I admired it, bold and in the shape of a ticket, and watched out of the corner of my eye as he gestured me inside. Therefore, they fall prey into bad companies and bad habits. Negativity allures them much more than the other positive things of society. Then they are no more able to understand the difference between anything good or bad. "Robert's got a quick hand, He'll look around the room; he won't tell you his plan". With the help of this name, the plight of every young kid has been told. I felt that the song gives a massage to the parents of teenagers that how youth behaves and prevails in the outer world, especially when they start growing and fostering. Moreover, how quickly they get indulge to so many bad habits. "He's got a rolled cigarette, hanging out his mouth he's a cowboy kid, Yeah found a six shooter gun In his dad's closet hidden oh in a box of fun things, I don't even know." The lyrics speaks itself like every now and then, young children start finding their source of fun and time pass in those useless things such as smoking cigarettes at very early age, playing with guns, hanging out unnecessarily, and this is what attracts them much more than anything useful. This is the age when children get so quick in doing any task, they get so impulsive and impatient in completing anything. In my ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By now, he had the process down to a science, how to slip away and return unnoticed, how to convince his mother he really was sick and not nursing a hangover, and how to bribe Angela when she came close to the truth and threatened to bring his operations to an end. All of them were so distracted anyway, caught up in their own thunderstorm, whisked away on their own adventures and not noticing the saga they could be participating in, the ultimate adventure if only they all dared. Angie had to be an angel, because while her family was shattered and even her own little brother was splintering, she slept until dawn. She was going to a college, a good one, and because of her diligence and her brains, she wouldn't drown in loans. Next to the front door, Noah had propped a backpack up against the wall. He shouldered the backpack, readjusting his balance as the weight shook him back and forth. He sent another glance towards upstairs, to his mother's bedroom. She would hate him for this. She would destroy him for this. "Noah." It wasn't a question, but something true and certain. It came from the voice of an angel. Apple has enough money to buy or build any company they want to from ground up. So, why did Apple acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music? According to NBC News, Apple CEO Tim Cook told Re/Code that the company "could build about anything that you could dream of," adding that acquiring Beats would give them a "head start" and add "kindred spirits" to company (Wagstaff, 2014). Given the years of musical experience that both Dr. Dre, a well–known legendary artist and music producer and Jimmy Iovine, the Chairman of Interscope Geffen A&M Records have and the energy they have brought to the hip–hop and pop cultures, it is no wonder that Apple would have made the decision to acquire Beats Electronics and Beats Music. In just six years, Dr. Dre and Iovine has sealed the whole consumer market for high–end headphones. Beats also unleashed Beats Music, a streaming music service. The negotiations take place at a critical time: the music market has seen a massive shift towards streaming and away from downloads. U.S. revenue from downloads –– which iTunes dominates –– dropped 1 percent to $2.8 billion in 2013, while streaming music revenue from the likes of Pandora and Spotify soared 39 percent to $1.4 billion, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (CBS News/AP, 2014). • 53. Language, Language And Language Have you ever listened to someone from another country speak English? A lot of times, people speaking a second language will pronounce things a little differently than native speakers, or they will talk at a different rhythm. Languages have their own pace, places where you expect people to pause or speed up or articulate more clearly. We call this part of language an accent. People speaking a secondary language may have a foreign accent, while those speaking a native tongue have a local accent. Music is a lot like this. Musical rhythms tend to have natural accents, emphases on certain notes within a meter. Just like fitting in with a new culture requires learning their accent, accents are essential to understand musical conversation. Metric Accents Accents in music can appear in a few basic forms. Let 's start with the simplest. In many languages, parts of speech contain natural accents. In Spanish for example, the last syllable is naturally emphasized in most words. Music is the same in that there are natural accents within every score. Every musical composition is divided into measures, units of a set number of beats, and certain beats naturally carry more emphasis than others. The most important is the downbeat, the first beat of a measure. The downbeat is always naturally accented, so there is no need to provide an accent mark over it. We call an accent that occurs naturally in a measure a metric accent. In most Western music, the first and third beats have metric ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ernest Hemingway corresponds to the "Lost Generation" of 1920's and Jack Kerouac corresponds to the "Beat Generation" of 1950's. Both of these generations were after wars. It is not coincidence, wars make people devastated and lost. People tried to overcome problems and pain through literature and music. Writers put all their emotions on the paper, musicians wrote songs, which described the hard time they had. These two generations produced the most talented writers of our days. This problem means that he could not have sex, he could not marry, and finally he could not have a normal family with children. All of these problems made him get drunk often, as alcohol helped him to forget about problems for a little time. Once, Robert Cohn asked him: "Don't you ever get the feeling that all your life is going by and you're not taking advantage of it? Do you realize that you've lived nearly half the time you have to live already?" and he answers, "Yes, every once in a while." (p.30). Poetry comes in a variety of forms, but what many are not aware of, is that songs are also a form of poetry. Songs are poems just placed with a beat behind it. They are made up with the goals to affect the listener with their words and song structure. One songwriter, Ed Sheeran, builds his songs using several literary devices. At first listen to one of his songs, Give Me Love, it can be interpreted as another love song. But after reviewing the lyrics, it can be noticed that he brings his words to life through specific diction, a certain mood, and a theme to bring the words to life. Analyzing any poem or song can give the reader a deeper understanding, or sometime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Theme is the story or message that the author is trying to send through his work, to the readers. In this case, Ed Sheeran is trying to get the theme of this song across by the conflict in the storyline, his use of epimone and the tone of the song. At a first listen to Give Me Love, it seems like any other love anthem. But a deeper analyzes revels that there is conflict in his words and heart. He starts off singing the first line of the song, which is "Give me love like her, 'cause lately I've been waking up alone". It can already be brought to attention the he is in need and feeling alone. The song goes on and he is struggling for the love of his partner. He says "I just wanna hold ya" right after stating that he'll give in to calling her once he is drunk. In the line "give a little time to me or burn this out", Ed is asking for another chance, to give it one more time or to give it up. Yet in the line "it's been a while but I still feel the same, maybe I should let you go" he is conflicted within himself. He still loves her, he is willing to take another chance at love but he knows time has passed and maybe it's time to move on. An epimone is commonly used when attempting to make a point. It is when a word or phrase is repeated to show emphasis on it. When Sheeran sings "give me love" repeatedly in the chorus, and shouts "love me!" at the end, it comes through as despair. He constantly repeats it for the purpose of showing that he is begging for love. The persistence in his voice is accompanied by and undertone of hurt and anger, which can also be conveyed ad the theme to this song. That being said, because of the way he shouts certain words and softly speaks other words, it gives the theme a very specific tone. When listening to Sheeran recites his lyrics, the tone at the begging is very calm, sad and understanding, he is asking for love again. By the end of the song the tone changes to furious and passionate, he is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As mentioned earlier the chorus defines to just walk away although "No One wants To Be Defeated." It is better to go because in the end "It Doesn't Matter Who is Wrong Or Right." Jackson uses very powerful words and explains that it is always best to look out for yourself instead of proving yourself to others. It is not worth the struggle (songfacts). As I was analyzing the song, I was listening for specific sounds and noises that would symbolize the meaning of the song. I heard a police siren which could symbolize that if you get involved with gangs and violence, you will end up in jail. I also heard a snapping sound and deep breathing sounds.
