1. HISTORY STUDY SKILLS

How to work at home
for History tests
Dear students,
You may find yourself in the following situation this year: HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO
PREPARE THE HISTORY TEST?
Here are some guidelines that are meant to be followed in advance so as to avoid last-
minute surprises.
Have fun!
2. USEFUL
s
• Review the unit every week. Make sure you understand
everything, that you do not need further explanation about
the contents worked on in class with Susana. If you need
further explanation, please, ASK for it!
• During the revision, link the notes worked in class with the
textbook information, in case of need. It is recommended to
do so. Also, add up whatever information you require in your
notebook, since it is for you to work, not just for making it
nice for Susana or me.
• You can start adding terms and building a glossary in your
notebook, so that you can practice history definitions.
• A very useful way of working is designing your own diagrams
and outlines. We will practise that a lot in class!
• Revise all the activities previously worked on in class, and
focus during class corrections. You must be responsible
3. enough for correcting your mistakes. Do not hesitate to
ask, if you have questions!
• Before the test: do not ever start on the last day. NEVER.
Period.
• A very useful way of working is making your own diagrams and
outlines. In any case, reviewing with pen or highlighters and
paper is VERY IMPORTANT.
• Please, do not study by heart. Memorising everything is NOT
the way. Try to understand. Make “the story that history is
telling us” yours. There is sometimes a part you might have to
memorise, but this is not only about it but also (and very
important) about developing strategic thinking.
