Ten Instructions To Spread Of Islam In The United States
According to Islamic texts, in the 7th century, the Prophet Muhammad was spoken to by God and instructed on how to enlighten the world with this
new religion called Islam. Over 14 centuries later and Islam is the second largest religion in the world, right after Christianity. In this essay,
comparisons between Christianity and Islam will be used to help better understand the religion of Islam and it is place in being branded as an
Abrahamic religion. Originating in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in the year 622 and then spreading to Asia and the Mediterranean area, followers of Islam
spread their religion and culture to allow it to flourish. Most followers today live in the Asia–Pacific area, but there are actually several million
Muslims currently living in the United States. Muslims follow the central religious text of Islam known as the Qur'an. Followers believe the Qur'an to

Starting off with the basics, we both believe in only one single God. While we have Jesus, Muslims have Muhammad. In the Qur'an there was coming
called the "Ten Commandments" but they sometimes went by the "Ten Instructions" they can be found in "Surat Al An'aam" and in "Surat Al Israa".
These ten instructions basically state that you should be good to your parents, do not kill your children if you are poor, kill no one, and other
instructions to live by. In a similar fashion, the Christianity religion has the Ten Commandments, which were given to Moses by God himself. The Ten
Commandments state that Christians shall have no other Gods but God, shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it, shall
not misuse the name of the Lord your God, shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy, respect your father and mother, must not commit murder,
must not commit adultery, must not steal, must not give false evidence against your neighbor, and finally must not be envious of your neighbor's

Islamic Organizations Post World War II
As we get farther into the book, I become more intrigued into the events that took place in America in regards to Islam. I never actually knew the
broader history behind the enlargement of Islam in the United States. The formation of different Islamic organizations post World War II was very
interesting, because it created a society where Muslim immigrants can unite; such as the Nation of Islam and the FIA. I found that the sociological, and
political aspects of these religion–based communities and organizations were very relevant to the issues that many Muslims had to deal with.
However, some of the organization's teachings and actions seemed questionable. Also, the book is very difficult to understand as it gets very in
depth with fact after fact but not much background information, which makes it hard to follow the points that author, Kambiz GhaneaBassiri is
trying to get across. That being said, I would like to focus on the chapter 6 readings, and the author's style of writing. To begin with, throughout the
book, A History of Islam in America, the author has a specific style of writing where he makes the book extremely dense to read. From chapter one
to chapter six so far, there is a lot of information that he gives us as readers with fact after fact, but not a lot of detail on the main points that he is
trying to make. This can make the reading that we have been doing highly confusing to understand. As he begins to make a very significant point that

October 2014 Islam in Today 's World
Islam is a religion that is widespread throughout our world. People who practice Islam are called Muslims. Regardless of cultural differences, there are
basic tenets of Islam that are commonly held to be true. There are, however, regional differences in such things as how important religion is in daily
life, who is considered a Muslim, and various Islamic practices. This paper will discuss these differences, as well as the history and basic tenets of the
religion. Further, Islam's relationship with Judaism and Catholicism will be explored.
In Arabia, in 570 C.E. the founder and prophet of Islam, Muhammad was born. Muhammad, a Jew, was mediating in a cave when he received a
revelation from the angel Gabriel regarding God. After this revelation, Muhammad began to preach and thereby developed a following of adherents.
He created a federation of Arab tribes and made Islam the basis for Arab unity. After his death in 632 C.E., the Muslim faith continued to expand
through out the region and world (Pollock, 2008, Chapter 6). In the seventh century C.E., a split developed within the Muslim population based on the
line of succession to the prophet and the nature of the leadership of Islam. This split resulted in two sects – the Sunnis and the Shiites. The majority of
the Muslim population was aligned was

The biased and discrimination in United States have always been done with the minority. Muslims have always been a minority in this country
throughout time. They have faced discrimination in society and especially from the government and media. I believe that people running this country
are Anti Islamic due to there view on things. Also this is a Zionist country, which is another reason that makes the media discriminate against the
Muslim's, due to the conflict with Palestine and other Muslim countries. The media has always portrayed Islam in a negative way. The reason the

By preserving the sanctity of the family, the Islamic system provides a strong foundation for a high standard of morality, and values that support the
society from friction and subversion. Islam organizes the interaction of men and women in public and private life, establishes a dress code for both,
encourages marriage at an early age and impose severe punishments for adultery, fornication and homosexuality. (2)
Furthermore, the social system stresses the importance of parent–child relation and regulates custody and monetary responsibility. It addresses the
responsibility towards grand parents, uncles, aunts and cousins from both sides of the family. Islam stresses very strongly neighbors affairs and
encourages providing for the needy. The Western culture view women as a sex objects used for the temptation and pleasure or to sell products. The
Capitalistic machine forced women to abandon their families to make end's meet. Islam considers the woman a human being whose primary mission
is to be a mother, an honorable goal; therefore, she is to be protected and honored. To achieve the social goal, many rules and regulations exist in the
Islamic legal code. The Islamic life style normally prevents unnecessary mixture men and women that preserve the integrity

Democracy And Islam : The Concepts Of Islam And Democracy
"The virtue of democracy is that it has found––in the course of its long struggle against unjust and oppressive rulers––forms and means that still
comprise the best guarantees for protecting people from tyrants" . Democracy epitomizes the Western world and coincides with capitalism. According
to the United States, it is the gold standard for governments. Conversely, political Islam is rising within majority Muslim nations as a counter to
democracy. The rise fuels the debate within the academic sphere over if Islam and Democracy can coexist. Other kindling topics include Muslim
Communism, a Marxist analysis of political Islam, and the concept of Jihad. Islam, and democracy, in a strict definition, are not compatible and,
therefore, political Islam cannot exist within that realm. However, a broadened definition of democracy leaves room for religion to impact the political
landscape, but it cannot be a main factor.
In a strict definition of democracy, religion, including Islam, cannot intertwine with the government because of the Qu'ran. Yusuf Al
–Qaradawi
describes the essence of democracy as that "people choose who rules over them and manages their affairs" ; democracy is of the people by the people.
Contradictory, the divine rule in Islam is that God is all–powerful. Al–Qaradawi argues that Islam can borrow from others and modernize, if it is in
accordance with Shari'a law. However, Shari'a law, in a governmental fashion, cannot exist in a well–functioning democracy because

The Appeal And Spread Of Radical Islam
The appeal and spread of radical Islam within the United States is becoming a serious national security risk. In the past radical Islamic groups such as
ISIS and Al–Qaeda placed cells in the United States for the purpose of taking down the American establishment through domestic terrorism. In order to
counter and even stop this phenomenon, it is essential that law enforcing and the intelligence community understand what makes Radical Islam so
appealing. Moreover, Once Officials figure out the appeal of radical Islam, only then can an effective strategy to combat radical Islam be made and
implemented. Current methods for abolishing radical Islam are not working if anything it has made the situation worse. Therefore, a new strategy is ...

Furthermore, many radical Islamic groups believe that man–made laws are shirk and they are not too be bound by them (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006).
Moreover, the only laws that have a sense of legitimacy in the eyes of radical Islamist is Sharia law (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Which is believed
to be law directly passed down from Allah. In addition, radical groups such as Al–Muhajiroun believe that all actions, decisions and deeds are an act of
praise and worship as long as it follows sharia. Conversely, any deviation from the fundamentalist teachings of Islam is considered sin against God
(Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Therefore, according to radical Islamist those who do not follow the strict interpretations of Islam are doomed to
burn in the fiery pits of hell, while those of follow such teaching will see paradise (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Radical Islamist groups use this
basic principle to keep their members in check. It is also important to note that each Radical Islamist group believes only it can offer its members
the True path to salvations and all other groups are false (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). This ideology is based upon a passage in the Hadiths that
states "And this Ummah will divide into 73 sects all of which will go to hell and they are those who are upon what I and my

Does Violence Stem From Islam? Essay

The Research Paper
Does Violence Stem from Islam Religion and violence often go hand and hand with one another. Focus here is on the more specific question of does
violence stem from Islam. American news networks have had coverage on violence happening in the Middle East routinely each day for the past
decade and a half or more. The question that maybe some Westerners may ask is the religionIslam causing the violence in the Middle East or is it
something else? Fighting in the Middle East is not a new concept as two sects of Islam have been fighting for approximately 14,000 years. Violence
and Islam seem like their bond is quite close stitched with one another. Realizing that violence does in fact stem from Islam and the teaching of the
religion will make understanding the fighting much easier to fathom. Understanding the religion Islam and how it came about will be a big part to
understanding why violence is so rich throughout the religion. "The religion of Islam was revealed to Muhammad ibn Abdullah, who became known
as the Prophet Muhammad, in central Arabia between 610 and 632 C.E." (Riggs). The religion began in the Middle East in Arabia now the country
known as Saudi Arabia in early 600 C.E. Muhammad was considered the last of the prophets of god and the holy prophet. Muhammad spread the
world of Islam until his death one June 8th 632 A.D. "At the head of the shrine 's pantheon was the supreme god, Allah,

Christianity, Christianity And The Teachings Of Christianity
Christianity has specific teachings within its religion that all christians practice. Christians believe in the Trinity which is the Father, Son, and the
Holy spirit. God is the father, son is Jesus, and the holy spirit is a spirit. Another teaching of Christianity is that christian life is marked by baptism.
Baptism is when christians are submerged in water or water is sprinkled over their head and it symbolizes purification. They practice this teaching
because they believe that it is a way of recognizing that Jesus died for their sins, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead. Christians also teach
that the Bible is the word of God and they believe in the Bible and what the Bible says. Islam teaches The Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars of
Islam are Faith, Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage. Faith is the belief of one god, Prayer is praying five times a day, Charity is giving or
donating to those in need, Fasting is only eating after sunset to sunrise for a whole month, and Pilgrimage is the journey to Mecca. The Five Pillars of
Islam are practiced by every Muslim. Another teaching within Islam is that they all believe in one god who is named Allah. The last teaching is that
Muhammad who was the last prophet of their god "Allah" is the messiah, which means Muhammad is their messenger of god.
Monotheism is believing in only one god. Both Christianity and Islam are Monotheistic religions and believe in the same god. They are also similar

Religious Holy War
The religious holy war is a conflict that caused because of the differences in religion, and beliefs between nations, and people. In 2001, After the
attacks of 9/11, as a result, the 43rd U.S. president of the United States George W. Bush declared the "War on terror". After 9/11, the tension, and the
conflict between the Western–Islamic world has been rising and impacted both nations, especially after just one month of 9/11, The war against an
Islamic conservative country like Afghanistan started from the United States. These fast actions caused people to worry it's a religious holy war
between Christianity, and Islam because the attackers of 9/11 were Muslims individuals in a majority Christian's country. By looking at the history of
the religious holy wars starting from crusades in 1095 all the way to the current time, I will demonstrate, compare, and contrast the differences between
the "War on terror" Lead by the United States, crusades, and what groups like ISIS, Al–Qaeda do in the name of Islam, as well as the Islamic concept of
"Jihad". First, to understand why we have holy wars we can go back to History many centuries ago. Historically, the roots, concept, and ... Show more

Islam In America Analysis
According to the book Islam in America by Johnathan Curiel, one can find evidence that the story of Muslims in America all the way back to
beginnings of slave trade to the United States in the 1700's. About 20% of African slaves that were brought to America were Muslims. During this
early times in the country, the number of Muslims is estimated to be around 25,000 but were forced by their owners to convert to Christianity. (Curiel,
2015) Though many Muslim slaves, showed that they had converted, many still held on to their faith in Islam. As the number of Slaves increased from
250,000 to 500,000, it is estimated that the number of Muslims increased. (Curiel, 2015) Through the time of denial of Islam, the Muslims held on and
followed their faith and continued to pass down their faith to family. This continued for many years, until the 1890's when white American Muslims
began to change the role of Islam in the United States. This turning point at such a crucial time for the religion, helped Islam spread throughout the
country. Alexander Webb proclaimed himself as missionary, and spent his time campaigning throughout the country, speaking about the religion, the
building of mosques and more during a time that people believed Islam to be an adversary. (Curiel, 2015) Although, he was flawed in the sense that he

There is such diversity of Islam in America from the Sunni, Sufi, Nation of Islam, Arab–Americans, African–Americans, Iranian–Americans,
Afghan–Americans, European–Americans, Secular Muslims, and Gay and Lesbian Muslims. (Curiel, 2015) Just like many other religions in the
country, there is much left to interpretation for any of the followers of Islam. Currently, New York has the highest amount of Muslims in the United
States at 24% of the population, followed by Illinois at 10%, California at 9%, Texas, at 9%, Michigan at 6%, and New Jersey at 5%. (Curiel,

True Islam Has Been Hijacked
True Islam has been hijacked. The public image of the Muslim community, not only in America, but globally, has been tainted by small groups of
extremists. The extremists' ideas stem from conservative interpretations of the Quran, and are not as widely followed as most people assume. Some
examples from the Quran that extremists interpret differently than most often have to do with the term disbelievers; Quran 48:29, "Muhammad is the
Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves." The "disbelievers" in this verse
refers to those who persecuted and attacked Muslims, this is not a verse guiding Muslims to be unpleasant to non–Muslims; although it is interpreted
that way. It only... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the Golden Age, which is the age of the four rightfully guided caliphs, empires were established. If Islam is likely to gain ground globally, he states
that they must separate faith and state. Mr. Hamid then goes on to state that this is unlikely to happen, because Sharia (Islam canonical law) is tied so
closely with the religion and state. The solution therefore, is stated that Islam should follow Western pattern and separate faith and government. A
partial reason that we continue to see Islam struggling with separating their faith and government is, because some see Islam as a political ideology and
think it never was a religion since they never separated from the government. Another is more simply because many Islamic states have tried numerous
political ideologies, such as: communism, secularism, democracy, tyranny, monarchy, and so on. Keeping Islam's separation issues in mind, the first
event to analyze is the Iranian Revolution, which led to the hostage crisis. The Iranian Revolution was the result of persecuted Iranians who were tired
of the current dynastic governance. The Revolution was led by the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and overthrew Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi,
who was friendly with the United States. The Revolution began in October, 1977 and lasted until January, 1979, whenIran became an Islamic Republic.
This is an important event in Westerners' perceptions of

The Values Of Islam In The United States
In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel
acts committed by individuals and groups who claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries
where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious, fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs.
Many of these judgements are preconceived and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality,Islam and
Christianity are not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god,
although Muslims use the Arabic word, "Allah". There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians believe in and
follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions
do. Although both groups acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the son of God. This is arguably
the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different degrees. Some branches of Christianity follow strict modesty codes while other
branches are more lenient. As is the case in Christianity, there are varying levels of modesty practiced by Muslims. Many Muslims believe that women

Radical Islam In The United States
Counter–terrorism expert Steve Emerson, senior advisor to the RAND Corporation Brian Jenkins, Ryan Mauro and the Clarion Project have
documented and exposed the reality of radical Islam in the United States. "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they
are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world" (1 John 4:1, English Standard Version). Since the attacks on 9/11, the American
public has settled into a false sense of security while the internet has enabled homegrown radicalization and enlarged the footprint of radical Islam
inside the United States. "Many law enforcement officials fear that a new style of jihadist group is appearing, a hybrid of foreign and homegrown
terrorists" (White, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radical Islamic leaders like Osama Bin Laden have made it clear that religion is at the heart of their terrorism and hate towards the West and
particularly the American way of life. The internet is not the only place where disenfranchised and vulnerable individuals are exposed to radical
ideology. The troubling reality is that clerics and mosques around the country allow their houses of worship to be used as training grounds for
radicalization. "The common thread among these organizations is their ideology of Political Islam which aspires to implement sharia governance and
to establish a global Islamic caliphate" (Clarion Project, 2017). Within the Criminal Justice System, radicalization and its threat to corrections and
national security has resulted in creating a balance between prevention and the First Amendment's Free Exercise Clause. The balance is created
through "greater supervision by prison officials of chapel services, control of religious materials in prison, enhanced staff training regarding Islam as a
religion, increased screening of chaplains and religious service" (Popeo, 2006). The FBI's "Don't Be A Puppet" campaign attempts to establish
awareness of violent extremists groups in the youth population, which is most suitable to radical ideological influences. Ultimately, the threats from
radical Islam and its potential attacks will be thwarted if more citizens immediately say something, when they see

Spread Of Islam In North Africa Essay
In the years before the Postclassical Period, the northern African region was predominantly influenced by polytheistic and animistic religions. The
region also held a variety of nomadic cultures that had a major focus on clan and family relationships. In familial roles, men had a different and higher
standard than women. In 610 C.E., the religion of Islam was founded in the northern African region, and the establishment of this religion effectively
revolutionized the region and its effects lasted for years afterwards. The emergence of Islam was the first instance in world history in which a religion,

Islam is portrayed and is commonly accepted as the most violent and largest direct threat to the West. This is a generalization made by most of the
West, but it is not particularly the West or the Islamic people's fault. There is constant turmoil in Islamic countries in the Middle East and these
conflicts are what make the news in the West. The only representation in the media that the Islamic nation gets is that of war. Though most Islamic
people are not violent, the select few that do participate in terrorist groups give the rest of the Islam nation a bad image.

Ever since the bombing of the World Trade Center on February 1993 the United States of America has stepped up its commitment to stopping

The Culture Of Islam And Islam
The Western liberal values of the United States consists of great diversity throughout the entire country. This is a result of the various cultures that
inhabit the United States, who brought their values and culture along with them during their immigration. The culture that corresponds with Islam
varies from the Western liberal culture. This is because the majority of Islam is strictly set on the words of the Qu'ran that were written thousands of
years ago. As a result of Islam's strong beliefs with their traditional values and practices, Islam will not be compatible with western/liberal beliefs
and values. The religion of Islam is extremely set in keeping their faith traditional by strictly following the written word of the Qu'ran. For
example, Muslims believe in six articles of faith which are deeply valued. They consist of the belief in only one God, belief in angels, belief in the
prophets of God, belief in the revealed books of God, belief in the day of judgment, and the belief in destiny and divine decree. These beliefs do not
contribute to the fact Islamic values will not be compatible with western values. It is the corresponding culture of Islam that result in difficulty in
western culture being compatible with Islam. Muslims abide by an extremely strict culture. One example of this is the dress code. The Qu'ran states
that both men and women should "guard their modesty and looks" and women should "draw cover over their bodies and bosoms, and not display their

Islamophobi Understanding Anti-Muslim Sentiment In The West
Following the tragic events that took place on September 11, 2001 (most commonly: "9/11"), the FBI reported an increase in hate crimes, nearly twenty
times more than the usual, against Muslim–Americans (Khan & Ecklund, 2012). After 9/11, anti–Islamic hate crimes against Muslims went from being
the second least reported hate crime of religious–bias incidents to being the second highest reported ("Statistics"). This drastic increase was due to
Muslims being subject to unjust discrimination in the United States caused by negative stereotypes, prejudice and misconceptions which effectively
became more widespread after September 11, 2001. Before 9/11, Muslims were already being stereotyped by the rising media portrayals as being

Rhetorical Analysis Of Donald Trump 's Speech
Donald Trump recently gave a speech discussing rising Radical Islamic Terrorism, immigration from the Middle East, and a need for a rise in
national security while Manchester, New Hampshire on June 13th 2016. He centers his whole speech around discussing how bad a President his
opponent, Hillary Clinton, would be in difficult times. Trump graduated from the Wharton School of Finance in 1968 with a bachelor 's degree in
economics, and has become a very successful businessman. He's the Republican nominee for this upcoming presidential election, and is a very
controversial candidate and person. He has come under fire for many of his views that he discusses in his June 13th speech. While Trump does make
some agreeably points, he renders his speech ineffective because of his heavy reliance on Clinton's opinion to form his own. If Trump were to become
President, his stance on important issues would need to be reached with careful consideration, and not just based on doing the opposite of his
opponents. Trump's speech was written with the goal of discrediting Clinton.Trump discusses how he believes that the rise in terror attacks on US soil
is the direct result of the influx of immigrants from the Middle East. He also believes that the rise in terrorism calls for a rise in national security and
less people entering the country. He claims that if he were president he 'd put a temporary ban on people from areas with proven terror history against

The Change Nature of Islam
A.Introduction
How to describe Islam correctly? This question has been a concern for many International Relations experts. Experts realize that they face new issues
in the New Millennium after almost five decades discussing the Cold War and how to end it. In the Cold War, the United States and the Soviet Union
took a central stage. Both of them were country. In present time, non–state actors have taken part in international politics issues. Terrorists and religious
groups are prominent actor in analyzing the current situation in international politics.
The 11 September 2001 incident had disenchanted experts that Islam is substantial factor in international politics. When experts and mass media tried to

This situation potentially leads Muslims and non–Muslims into conflict. In non–Muslim dominated countries, this situation will not occur due to the
limitedness of Muslim's power.
This statement has clearer and deeper reason rather than other assumption because this explanation is based on verses in The Koran. But, this argument
could not explain some phenomena that occurred in a Muslim country. For example, Indonesia, which is dominated by Muslims, applies democratic
system in it constitution and holds general election to choose their leader and their representative. Actually, democratic system and general election is
not part of The Koran. In fact, the Koran has its own system to choose leader.
Finally, what is the essential core of Islam is a complex question to answer. But, based onMuhammad's leadership historic fact, Islam was not
promoting aggressive approach or anti tolerant values in it early ages. Thus, the approach method to promote Islam is based on actor involved in that
process. The Crusade and Arab–Israel War impact towards Islam
The Crusade is always discussed in two contexts (Supardi–Hasibuan). The first context is that Crusades was part of history repetition and the Western
civilization was against the Eastern civilization at one point. Whereas, the second context is that Crusades was the Holy War between Christian and
Islam for Holy City, Jerusalem.

During the First World War, the American government encouraged suspicion of German

Half of the Arab–Islamic population didn't know about the September 11th attack. Americans still, blamed the Arab–Islamic, while other Americans
blamed every Arab–Islamic and Germans. The Americans did indeed go to war with the Germans, Germany in general, and it was very
heartbreaking. I think that the majority of the Germans didn't even want a war to go on against the United States. Most Americans took the issues and
complications, creating anger and hatred towards the Germans, creating rumors about them who were actually innocent. Both Germans, Arabs and
Islams gone through discrimination after the tragedy. Many Americans who lost their loved ones grew hatred towards the Germans, Arabs, or

Islam And The United States Essay
There is not much information on when Muslims first arrived in America, but there has been evidence that some of the slaves were Muslim, but didn't
have the ability to practice their religion freely, they also tried to accommodate their faith with Christianity, but others were converted. It was about
twenty percent of the slaves in the US were Muslim. One of the first known Muslims in the United States, was a slave from Morocco, named Estevanico,
who was shipwrecked with Spanish Explorers near the where the city Galveston, Texas is. After that there weren't many Muslims coming into the
United States until the twentieth century. This is shown by the evidence that one of the first mosques was built in North Dakota in 1929, and while the
mosque was demolished a Muslim cemetery still stands near the spot of that mosque. Islam started in the 7th century with a prophet named Muhammad.
It is an Abrahamic religion, like Judaism and Christianity, but Muslims believe that Islam is a step further than the other two religions.
According to a Gallup Poll from 2008, out of the 319751 respondents only 946 identified as Muslim, which is around .29 percent of the respondents. In
the Gallup report, they also mention that 35% of Muslim–Americans are African American, 18% are Asian, it is not broken down into whether it is

Islam 's Impact On The United States
Within the past twelve years, Islam has grown to be the second largest religion practiced around the world. Growing up, there weren't many Muslim
people that practiced Islam as there are now. Ten years ago, I would only see about one or two Muslims as I walked down the street, but now I see
many more. In Philadelphia, there are more than 200,000 people who are Muslim, and 85% of those people are African–American. In this city when
people see African–American Muslims who are garbed up they don't discriminate against them. To be a Muslim in this society it causes controversy
because people are constantly pointing out all of the flaws within them. Since 9/11, people seem to always associate Muslims with terrorists. More
importantly, when people hear Muslim terrorists they never assume that they are from any other areas except from the Middle Eastern. Being
young and not knowing the real reasoning behind the attacks of 9/11, I had always looked at Muslims as terrorists. To be specific, I thought they
were mainly Middle Eastern Muslims. I was oblivious to the fact that there are other types of Muslims because all I have ever saw in the media were
those types. It didn't hit me that I was starting to become a victim of discrimination until I was on the bus and I saw a white male dressed up in a
turban thinking that he was going to harm the passengers on the bus. I knew then that I had to alter my opinions about this because I knew that I

Stereotypes: Prejudice In The United States
Prejudice is the preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience. In the United States, the First Amendment is, "Congress shall
make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." The first amendment guarantees freedom of speech,
freedom of the press, freedom to assemble, and most importantly freedom of religion. Regardless of what religion you choose to be, you have the right
to peacefully practice it in the United States. Muslims are among the most prejudiced group in the
United States. Negative media portrayal and closed–minded individuals are the reasons why
Islamophobia continues to grow in the United States.

The stubbornness to learn more from Americans is described as frustrating because their opinions are wrong. If more attention was shown to learning a
little of the other religion, maybe they would come to appreciate Islam more. "Glossing over the problematic aspects of
Islam is highly misleading, and it has several harmful consequences. " (Kilpatrick) The consequence is to refrain from learning that "Islam is a
religion of peace. " (Paul). The Quran interprets the religion of Islam as peaceful.
The cultural gap between American society and muslim–Americans could factor into the presence of Islamophobia. Islam offers a totalized worldview
encompassing all spheres of community intercourse: political, economic, social, etc.The West isolates the spheres of knowledge and action and
enshrines the individual. Muslims are forbidden to eat pork while
Christians eat pork. Alcohol is forbidden in Islam while alcohol is not. They also practice different customs. "Christians and Muslims have a different

Islamophobia In The United States
This paper takes a closer look at Islamophobia in the United States. Islamophobia is defined as irrational fear of Islam and Muslims. Is Islamophobia
real or are Muslims, as some suggest, simply taking advantage of the religious freedoms guaranteed in our Constitution and the tradition of pluralism
and acceptance. Others say Islamophobia exists because Muslims refuse to integrate into American society. Yet others will say Muslims refuse to
integrate because of Islamophobia. "American Islam" and "mainstream Muslim" are both terms that have become highly politicized and must be
understood specific to time and place. The media also plays a role in catering to the fear of Islam and Muslims by Americans. In this paper I will go

According to FBI statistics, since 9/11, there have been more hate crimes committed against Jews than against Muslims (Goldberg, 2010). Fifty–nine
percent of hate crimes are anti–Semitic, as opposed to 14% against anti–Islamic. The ratio hovers around four–to–one. Why are we not hearing more
about Judeophobia? If the United States is so Islamophobic, then why would we troops to liberate Kuwait, prevent Muslim bloodshed in Bosnia
and Kosovo, or protect food supplies for hungry Somalis (Malik, 2005)? If the United States truly hated Muslims, or Islam, does it make any sense
for us to continue battling the Islamic State in Syria? Some believe the claim of Islamophobia is used by politicians as part of a political agenda.
Others suggest Islamophobia is a convenient label used to explain why Muslims are not flourishing in American society. Bottom line is that any
criticism of Islam is labeled Islamophobia. It is a term used by Muslim clerics against anyone who speaks out against Islam. As political satirist Bill

The Modern View Of Islam
The modern view of Islam in the United States is often influenced by the stereotype created by westerners based on the history of military conflict
between the United States and Islamic countries. In turn, the view of Americans has shifted in Islamic countries due to the religious generalization that
has been developed. It is widely known that the United States and Islamic countries have had military conflict in the past, with examples such as the
September 11th attacks or the location and assassination of Osama Bin Laden, however the negative social interaction between these two communities
is seldom addressed within western society. It is the misconception of the Muslim religion and Islamic culture that is to blame for these social biases
which have placed Muslims in America into a social subjugation predominantly by people of non–Muslim religious affiliation in western society. In
parallel and due to this subjugation, a negative opinion of Americans in Islamic countries has been adhered. To address this issue in a two–hour
briefing with the President of the United States, the topic of religious generalization and the physical and social harm it has caused to the Muslim
community will be addressed. Likewise, it is to the concern of the President of the United States that the American reputation has been harmed – as it is
his job to uphold the American reputation within the international realm.

Massive Anti-Islam Sentiment in the United States Essay
Islam is a monotheistic religion, centered around the teachings of the Qu'ran and serving Allah (meaning God in Arabic). However, this Abrahamic
religion has been harshly discriminated against in the United States for years. Most prominently throughout the last twelve years, post September 11th,

contributed to the ill attitudes towards Muslims. This paper will examine how Americans have been socialized in islamophobia within the United States.

September 11th holds many hard and upset feelings around the world today. The harsh actions of Muslim extremists unfortunately completely changed
the way Muslims are treated, especially in the United States. These events, exacerbated islamophobia. Unfortunately, "the terrorist attacks of September
11, 2001, connect Muslims and Islam to terrorism within the geographical borders of the United States." (Byng) Although it has been over a decade
since the attack, many still feel racist and discriminatory attitudes towards Muslims. Muslims are the targeted minority in the United States, "the 9/11
terrorist attacks shifted the social and political context for Muslims in the United States. Terrorism within the geographical borders of the United States
carried out by Muslims places an identity at the center of national and global politics." (Byng) The blame of the horrible terrorist attacks, rather than be
placed on terrorists or religious extremist, has been placed on Islam in America. After September 11th, hate crimes towards Muslims skyrocketed, "the
most dramatic change noted by the report was a more than 1,600 percent increase in reported hate crimes against Muslims –– a jump from 28 hate
incidents in 2000 to 481 last year."

The Between Islam And Middle Eastern Countries
America is predominantly known as the melting pot of the world. It has cultivated a variety of populations in search for a "new life." People from a
variety of religions, races, and ethnicities live in this country and call it their home. People whom identify as Muslims are one of the many groups of
people who live, work, and worship here. Since we live in a country where there are multiple religions and races, it is important that we learn their
customs and culture. Muslims most commonly originate from Africa, and Middle Eastern countries. The religion of this group of people,Islam,
developed in the seventh century. Islam helps put life into perspective and gives hope to the hopeless . The beliefs of Islam revolve around the Quran,
which was written by the prophet Mohammad (Rippin, 2012 p. 5). As stated by Armstrong (2012), the formation of Islam can be summarized as, "a
narrative that tells of the revelations given to the Prophet, the migration to Medina, the battles of the early community, the return to Mecca and the
subsequent conquests under the Rightly Guided caliphs p. 88". The religion of Islam that Muslims identify with is fairly new as compared to other
religious such as Judaism and Christianity. The Quran holds three basic teachings; through law, the previous prophets ( Mohammed), and the final
judgment ( Enlightment). Some of this parallels to what Christians refer to as the Doctrine and Bible of Christ. While many figures and stories found

The Islamic Faith : Born On The Arabian Peninsula
The Islamic faith was born on the Arabian Peninsula. In the sixth century the Arabian Peninsula was a place of refuge from two major apposing
powers the Christian Byzantine kingdom and the Zoroastrain Persian Kingdom (Allen & Tooraw, 2011). During this time Mohammad Ibn
Abadallah was born. When he was forty years old he had his first vision, proclaiming that Allah was the one true god and rejecting the idol worship

There are many religions throughout the world in today's society. One of the religions that is discriminated the most is Islam. Muslims who are part of
the religion are hated because of a terrorist group called Isis. Some of the reasons why they are discriminated is because Isis shares the same religion,
Americans think they are terrorist, and are the fastest growing religion in the world. Although people around the world look at this religion being

Islam in America
In last decade, the United States has become an immigrant society once again, approximately one million immigrants annually entered. It was large
number of immigrants compared to United States history, but also there are lot of diversity in religion and in the characteristics of the new
immigrants. Muslims are one the large number of immigrants who became citizens now in America. However, there are no clear data or number of
how many Muslims live in the United States now. Muslim in America or American Islam has both some equality and quite challenges living in United
States society.
Immigration is one of the challenge for Islam after the 9/11 incident. There is one true story in Moustafa Bayoumi, it is about one boy who got
separated with his father right after the 9/11. The story is mainly about Rami, who is Palestinian who lives in America, and his father who arrested

In recent years, the prevalence of Islamophobia has been on the rise, with a huge outbreak right after the attacks of 9/11 and the recent attacks in Paris.
Oxford Dictionary defines Islamophobia as "the dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force". Before we can
understand Islamophobia in depth, we must understand the definition of racialization, which is the combination of the ideology that the human race is
divided into distinct races, a "historical power relationship" in which groups are racialized are based on specific characteristics that were natural of that

The European influence throughout Islamic regions of South Asia and Africa lead to the rise of hatred towards Islam and the perception that "Muslims
are all foreigners who cannot adapt to Western society" (KayaoДџlu 611). This disgust and animosity receded until recent times in the tragic unfolding
of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. There are those who assert that Islamophobia signifies a new societal reality that "contemporary anti–Islamic
events, incidents, discourse are the result of several recent factors like the 9/11 attacks" (KayaoДџlu 610). Islamophobia has been prevalent in the past,
and the recent attacks of 9/11 have created the most societal issues and controversies for Muslims, as Islamophobia "frustrates non–Western
communities" and "threaten the possibility of global coexistence" (KayaoДџlu 613). ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, is a contradiction
to this statement for the Muslim community however, as they threaten global peace through their bloody theology: beheadings, rape within invaded
communities, and full on attacks on the people and the values of Western society (Vick 14–15). This "Islamic terrorist group," however, is wrongly
perceived as Islamic (as ISIS murders Muslims) and the number of Muslims actually a part of or in support of the group is an anomaly compared to
the near 50% of Islamophobic Americans who hold a strong, negative view of Islam, as a 2006 Washington Post poll suggests (Imhoff 811). Muslims
underwent discrimination since the beginning stages of immigration into the United States. Muslim experiences before the 9/11 attacks were not
thoroughly studied until the issue of Islamophobia became prevalent in this present day. Well–known researcher Edward Said was an early
Arab–American scholar who theorized racialization throughout the 1980's. In her

The September 11th terrorist attacks unleashed unimaginable devastation upon the United States and subsequently upon the Arab–Islamic world.
While the government of the United States scrambled jets and prepared soldiers for war, there was another battle, arguably more important than the
war the United States was preparing to wage. This battle was waged not on battlefields but in classrooms, between scholars who struggled to define
and rectify the democratic deficit in the Muslim world. Theories have been offered ranging from Islam and democracy being diametrically opposed, all

After WWI, Great Britain and France dissected the Ottoman Empire and arbitrarily authored new national boundaries. In 1953, the British and the
United States, in a concerted effort, overthrew the democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddeq because he sought to nationalize Iranian oil; a direct
threat to American and British interests. In March of 2003 the United States contravened the wishes of the international community by invading the
sovereign Arab state of Iraq. Thousands of American troops remain there as an occupying force. These actions by Western democratic powers
marginalized the communities in which they intervened and engendered those same societies with a false view of democracy which remains prevalent

Furthermore, the West in general and the United States in particular, has been accused of, and rightly so, holding the Arab

Pakistan under Zia ul–Haq, when doing so was in its political and military interests. Support of these repressive regimes was tendered while
simultaneously speaking of freedom and "supporting" the democratization of the Muslim world. As a result, it is likely that cited incompatibilities are

The word 'Islamophobia' refers to the fear, dislike, suspicion, or hatred of Muslims. As irrational prejudices go, this one is a fairly new phenomenon. It
became most prominent after the September 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, but certainly existed prior to that (Sheridan 2006).
Islamophobia is nourished by a number of misconceptions which are related to but distinct from these attacks. The so–called 'War on Terror' is
sometimes perceived as a war on Islam. Muslims are depicted in the media and by the United States' government as 'hating freedom', though as we

Donald Trump, who by some sort of bizarre cosmic accident is now being taken seriously as possibly becoming the next President of the United

simply an unapologetic racist. But his comments upon Islam in general, and on the Muslims living in the United States in particular, do have
consequences. One of the claims that Trump has made is that "Islam hates us, there's a tremendous hatred" (Struyk 2016). Let us set aside the fact that
this is not even an English sentence, in as much as Islam is a religion, not a person or set of persons (and therefore is not capable of hatred or any

that many Muslims hate the United States. At the outset of the paper it was suggested that there are good reasons that Muslims hate the United States.

The Koran and the Sunna cover many things that Muslims must go by. Some examples are: diet, marriage, and even the proper way to clean one's
teeth. There are two different groups of Muslims, the Shiites, and the Sunni. The Shiites are those who support the decedents of Muhhamad as their
rightful successors. The Sunni believed that the elections of the first three caliphs were valid. There are five specific rituals that Muslims must follow.
These rituals are known as the five pillars of Islam. These rituals are as follows:
1) Profession of faith. "There is no god but Allah, and Muhhamad is his prophet.
2) Prayer. Muslims must pray five times a day. When they pray, they must pray towards Mecca, the holy city.
3) Charity to the poor. Muslims must contribute to public charities.
4) Ritual fast during Ramadan. Muslims cannot eat from the break of day until the setting of the sun.
5) The pilgrimage to Mecca. Muslims must make at least one pilgrimage to Mecca at one time in their lives.
These are the five rituals that Muslims went by and they did so successfully.
Islam is a way of life, as well as a religion. Those who follow Islam are very dedicated, for they live their whole life submitting themselves to Allah. As
a matter of fact, the word Islam means submission to Allah. In the United States today, Islam is a highly accepted religion in the African American

United States aggression against Islam:
As noted above, the main goal of al Qaeda propaganda is to convince the Muslim world (ummah) that the West is waging a war on (or conducting a
"crusade" against) Islam. All of the detainees at Guantanamo are Muslim, many were jailed without any involvement with al Qaeda, the Taliban, or
militant behavior at all, (Fox News) and some abused. (Center for Constitutional Rights) These facts, manipulated correctly and placed into a certain
context, could be used to convince a susceptible audience that the United States is operating the prison partially to persecute Muslim men, and as an
example of the US targeting Muslims generally.
Al Qaeda uses this imagined war as a rallying cry to convince a small minority in the Muslim world to join its cause, as well as a justification for its
actions – casting them as a "defensive jihad" against the enemies of the faith. In situations when the faith is attacked, according to Daveed
Gartenstein–Ross, "each Muslim has an individual obligation to join the battle ... this must be done by all Muslims," and as Todd Helmus writes, "Al
Qaeda thus calls Muslims to Islam 's defense." (121)
The Canadian Center for Intelligence and Security Studies report explains that, "Al Qaeda 's propaganda portrays the current socio–political system as
one that oppresses and discriminates against Muslims, who are the victims of an international world order dominated by the West – the aggressor and
enemy of Islam." (ITAC

Ten Instructions To Spread Of Islam In The United States

  • 1. Ten Instructions To Spread Of Islam In The United States According to Islamic texts, in the 7th century, the Prophet Muhammad was spoken to by God and instructed on how to enlighten the world with this new religion called Islam. Over 14 centuries later and Islam is the second largest religion in the world, right after Christianity. In this essay, comparisons between Christianity and Islam will be used to help better understand the religion of Islam and it is place in being branded as an Abrahamic religion. Originating in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in the year 622 and then spreading to Asia and the Mediterranean area, followers of Islam spread their religion and culture to allow it to flourish. Most followers today live in the Asia–Pacific area, but there are actually several million Muslims currently living in the United States. Muslims follow the central religious text of Islam known as the Qur'an. Followers believe the Qur'an to be the word of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting off with the basics, we both believe in only one single God. While we have Jesus, Muslims have Muhammad. In the Qur'an there was coming called the "Ten Commandments" but they sometimes went by the "Ten Instructions" they can be found in "Surat Al An'aam" and in "Surat Al Israa". These ten instructions basically state that you should be good to your parents, do not kill your children if you are poor, kill no one, and other instructions to live by. In a similar fashion, the Christianity religion has the Ten Commandments, which were given to Moses by God himself. The Ten Commandments state that Christians shall have no other Gods but God, shall not make for yourself any idol, nor bow down to it or worship it, shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, shall remember and keep the Sabbath day holy, respect your father and mother, must not commit murder, must not commit adultery, must not steal, must not give false evidence against your neighbor, and finally must not be envious of your neighbor's ... • 2. Islamic Organizations Post World War II As we get farther into the book, I become more intrigued into the events that took place in America in regards to Islam. I never actually knew the broader history behind the enlargement of Islam in the United States. The formation of different Islamic organizations post World War II was very interesting, because it created a society where Muslim immigrants can unite; such as the Nation of Islam and the FIA. I found that the sociological, and political aspects of these religion–based communities and organizations were very relevant to the issues that many Muslims had to deal with. However, some of the organization's teachings and actions seemed questionable. Also, the book is very difficult to understand as it gets very in depth with fact after fact but not much background information, which makes it hard to follow the points that author, Kambiz GhaneaBassiri is trying to get across. That being said, I would like to focus on the chapter 6 readings, and the author's style of writing. To begin with, throughout the book, A History of Islam in America, the author has a specific style of writing where he makes the book extremely dense to read. From chapter one to chapter six so far, there is a lot of information that he gives us as readers with fact after fact, but not a lot of detail on the main points that he is trying to make. This can make the reading that we have been doing highly confusing to understand. As he begins to make a very significant point that had to do with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Islam : A Religion That Is Widespread Throughout Our World Islam in Today 's World Christine Salogub Chamberlain Cultural Diversity in the Professions SOCS–350N Marcia Morrison, Ph.D. October 2014 Islam in Today 's World Islam is a religion that is widespread throughout our world. People who practice Islam are called Muslims. Regardless of cultural differences, there are basic tenets of Islam that are commonly held to be true. There are, however, regional differences in such things as how important religion is in daily life, who is considered a Muslim, and various Islamic practices. This paper will discuss these differences, as well as the history and basic tenets of the religion. Further, Islam's relationship with Judaism and Catholicism will be explored. In Arabia, in 570 C.E. the founder and prophet of Islam, Muhammad was born. Muhammad, a Jew, was mediating in a cave when he received a revelation from the angel Gabriel regarding God. After this revelation, Muhammad began to preach and thereby developed a following of adherents. He created a federation of Arab tribes and made Islam the basis for Arab unity. After his death in 632 C.E., the Muslim faith continued to expand through out the region and world (Pollock, 2008, Chapter 6). In the seventh century C.E., a split developed within the Muslim population based on the line of succession to the prophet and the nature of the leadership of Islam. This split resulted in two sects – the Sunnis and the Shiites. The majority of the Muslim population was aligned was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

They have faced discrimination in society and especially from the government and media. I believe that people running this country are Anti Islamic due to there view on things. Also this is a Zionist country, which is another reason that makes the media discriminate against the Muslim's, due to the conflict with Palestine and other Muslim countries. The media has always portrayed Islam in a negative way. The reason the media is biased when it comes to Islam because they hate the Islamic structure and the beliefs. By preserving the sanctity of the family, the Islamic system provides a strong foundation for a high standard of morality, and values that support the society from friction and subversion. It addresses the responsibility towards grand parents, uncles, aunts and cousins from both sides of the family. Islam stresses very strongly neighbors affairs and encourages providing for the needy. The Western culture view women as a sex objects used for the temptation and pleasure or to sell products. The Capitalistic machine forced women to abandon their families to make end's meet. Islam considers the woman a human being whose primary mission is to be a mother, an honorable goal; therefore, she is to be protected and honored. • 5. Democracy And Islam : The Concepts Of Islam And Democracy "The virtue of democracy is that it has found––in the course of its long struggle against unjust and oppressive rulers––forms and means that still comprise the best guarantees for protecting people from tyrants" . Democracy epitomizes the Western world and coincides with capitalism. According to the United States, it is the gold standard for governments. Conversely, political Islam is rising within majority Muslim nations as a counter to democracy. The rise fuels the debate within the academic sphere over if Islam and Democracy can coexist. Other kindling topics include Muslim Communism, a Marxist analysis of political Islam, and the concept of Jihad. Islam, and democracy, in a strict definition, are not compatible and, therefore, political Islam cannot exist within that realm. However, a broadened definition of democracy leaves room for religion to impact the political landscape, but it cannot be a main factor. In a strict definition of democracy, religion, including Islam, cannot intertwine with the government because of the Qu'ran. Yusuf Al –Qaradawi describes the essence of democracy as that "people choose who rules over them and manages their affairs" ; democracy is of the people by the people. Contradictory, the divine rule in Islam is that God is all–powerful. Al–Qaradawi argues that Islam can borrow from others and modernize, if it is in accordance with Shari'a law. However, Shari'a law, in a governmental fashion, cannot exist in a well–functioning democracy because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the past radical Islamic groups such as ISIS and Al–Qaeda placed cells in the United States for the purpose of taking down the American establishment through domestic terrorism. In order to counter and even stop this phenomenon, it is essential that law enforcing and the intelligence community understand what makes Radical Islam so appealing. Which is believed to be law directly passed down from Allah. In addition, radical groups such as Al–Muhajiroun believe that all actions, decisions and deeds are an act of praise and worship as long as it follows sharia. Conversely, any deviation from the fundamentalist teachings of Islam is considered sin against God (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Therefore, according to radical Islamist those who do not follow the strict interpretations of Islam are doomed to burn in the fiery pits of hell, while those of follow such teaching will see paradise (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). Radical Islamist groups use this basic principle to keep their members in check. It is also important to note that each Radical Islamist group believes only it can offer its members the True path to salvations and all other groups are false (Quintan Wiktorowicz, 2006). • 7. Does Violence Stem From Islam? Essay Jesse MacCaughan Professor Worthington ENG–102 7 December 2016 The Research Paper Does Violence Stem from Islam Religion and violence often go hand and hand with one another. Focus here is on the more specific question of does violence stem from Islam. American news networks have had coverage on violence happening in the Middle East routinely each day for the past decade and a half or more. The question that maybe some Westerners may ask is the religionIslam causing the violence in the Middle East or is it something else? Fighting in the Middle East is not a new concept as two sects of Islam have been fighting for approximately 14,000 years. Violence and Islam seem like their bond is quite close stitched with one another. Realizing that violence does in fact stem from Islam and the teaching of the religion will make understanding the fighting much easier to fathom. Understanding the religion Islam and how it came about will be a big part to understanding why violence is so rich throughout the religion. "The religion of Islam was revealed to Muhammad ibn Abdullah, who became known as the Prophet Muhammad, in central Arabia between 610 and 632 C.E." (Riggs). The religion began in the Middle East in Arabia now the country known as Saudi Arabia in early 600 C.E. Muhammad was considered the last of the prophets of god and the holy prophet. • 8. Christianity, Christianity And The Teachings Of Christianity Christianity has specific teachings within its religion that all christians practice. Christians believe in the Trinity which is the Father, Son, and the Holy spirit. God is the father, son is Jesus, and the holy spirit is a spirit. Another teaching of Christianity is that christian life is marked by baptism. Baptism is when christians are submerged in water or water is sprinkled over their head and it symbolizes purification. They practice this teaching because they believe that it is a way of recognizing that Jesus died for their sins, was buried in a tomb, and rose from the dead. Christians also teach that the Bible is the word of God and they believe in the Bible and what the Bible says. Islam teaches The Five Pillars of Islam. The Five Pillars of Islam are Faith, Prayer, Charity, Fasting, and Pilgrimage. Faith is the belief of one god, Prayer is praying five times a day, Charity is giving or donating to those in need, Fasting is only eating after sunset to sunrise for a whole month, and Pilgrimage is the journey to Mecca. The Five Pillars of Islam are practiced by every Muslim. Another teaching within Islam is that they all believe in one god who is named Allah. The last teaching is that Muhammad who was the last prophet of their god "Allah" is the messiah, which means Muhammad is their messenger of god. Monotheism is believing in only one god. In 2001, After the attacks of 9/11, as a result, the 43rd U.S. president of the United States George W. Bush declared the "War on terror". After 9/11, the tension, and the conflict between the Western–Islamic world has been rising and impacted both nations, especially after just one month of 9/11, The war against an Islamic conservative country like Afghanistan started from the United States. These fast actions caused people to worry it's a religious holy war between Christianity, and Islam because the attackers of 9/11 were Muslims individuals in a majority Christian's country. By looking at the history of the religious holy wars starting from crusades in 1095 all the way to the current time, I will demonstrate, compare, and contrast the differences between the "War on terror" Lead by the United States, crusades, and what groups like ISIS, Al–Qaeda do in the name of Islam, as well as the Islamic concept of "Jihad". This can be done by having a strong bedrock education from both sides that teaches young people to be more tolerant, peaceful, and respectful of other religions. • 10. Islam In America Analysis According to the book Islam in America by Johnathan Curiel, one can find evidence that the story of Muslims in America all the way back to beginnings of slave trade to the United States in the 1700's. About 20% of African slaves that were brought to America were Muslims. During this early times in the country, the number of Muslims is estimated to be around 25,000 but were forced by their owners to convert to Christianity. (Curiel, 2015) Though many Muslim slaves, showed that they had converted, many still held on to their faith in Islam. As the number of Slaves increased from 250,000 to 500,000, it is estimated that the number of Muslims increased. (Curiel, 2015) Through the time of denial of Islam, the Muslims held on and followed their faith and continued to pass down their faith to family. This continued for many years, until the 1890's when white American Muslims began to change the role of Islam in the United States. This turning point at such a crucial time for the religion, helped Islam spread throughout the country. Alexander Webb proclaimed himself as missionary, and spent his time campaigning throughout the country, speaking about the religion, the building of mosques and more during a time that people believed Islam to be an adversary. • 11. True Islam Has Been Hijacked True Islam has been hijacked. The public image of the Muslim community, not only in America, but globally, has been tainted by small groups of extremists. The extremists' ideas stem from conservative interpretations of the Quran, and are not as widely followed as most people assume. Some examples from the Quran that extremists interpret differently than most often have to do with the term disbelievers; Quran 48:29, "Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against disbelievers, and merciful among themselves." The "disbelievers" in this verse refers to those who persecuted and attacked Muslims, this is not a verse guiding Muslims to be unpleasant to non–Muslims; although it is interpreted that way. If Islam is likely to gain ground globally, he states that they must separate faith and state. Mr. Hamid then goes on to state that this is unlikely to happen, because Sharia (Islam canonical law) is tied so closely with the religion and state. The solution therefore, is stated that Islam should follow Western pattern and separate faith and government. A partial reason that we continue to see Islam struggling with separating their faith and government is, because some see Islam as a political ideology and think it never was a religion since they never separated from the government. Another is more simply because many Islamic states have tried numerous political ideologies, such as: communism, secularism, democracy, tyranny, monarchy, and so on. Keeping Islam's separation issues in mind, the first event to analyze is the Iranian Revolution, which led to the hostage crisis. The Iranian Revolution was the result of persecuted Iranians who were tired of the current dynastic governance. The Revolution was led by the Grand Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and overthrew Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was friendly with the United States. The Revolution began in October, 1977 and lasted until January, 1979, whenIran became an Islamic Republic. This is an important event in Westerners' perceptions of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. The Values Of Islam In The United States In recent years, Muslims and Arab Americans have become hot topics of conversation in politics and everyday life. Terrorist attacks and other cruel acts committed by individuals and groups who claim Islam have become quite frequent in the United States and across the globe, even in countries where Islam is the dominant faith. These acts have resulted in many people becoming cautious, fearful, and prejudiced against all Muslims and Arabs. Many of these judgements are preconceived and based off of misunderstandings and incorrect assumptions about the Islamic faith. In reality,Islam and Christianity are not so different; many of the values of Christians and Muslims actually coincide. Both Christians and Muslims believe in one true god, although Muslims use the Arabic word, "Allah". There has been much debate over whether Allah is the same God that Christians believe in and follow. Some believe that it is the same God, while others disagree. Regardless, both follow one true God rather than many deities, as other religions do. Although both groups acknowledge the life of Jesus, Muslims believe Jesus to have been a simple prophet and not the son of God. This is arguably the Muslims and Christians also greatly value modesty, to different degrees. Some branches of Christianity follow strict modesty codes while other branches are more lenient. As is the case in Christianity, there are varying levels of modesty practiced by Muslims. Many Muslims believe that women ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the attacks on 9/11, the American public has settled into a false sense of security while the internet has enabled homegrown radicalization and enlarged the footprint of radical Islam inside the United States. Radical Islamic leaders like Osama Bin Laden have made it clear that religion is at the heart of their terrorism and hate towards the West and particularly the American way of life. The internet is not the only place where disenfranchised and vulnerable individuals are exposed to radical ideology. The troubling reality is that clerics and mosques around the country allow their houses of worship to be used as training grounds for radicalization. "The common thread among these organizations is their ideology of Political Islam which aspires to implement sharia governance and to establish a global Islamic caliphate" (Clarion Project, 2017). Within the Criminal Justice System, radicalization and its threat to corrections and national security has resulted in creating a balance between prevention and the First Amendment's Free Exercise Clause. The balance is created through "greater supervision by prison officials of chapel services, control of religious materials in prison, enhanced staff training regarding Islam as a religion, increased screening of chaplains and religious service" (Popeo, 2006). This is a result of the various cultures that inhabit the United States, who brought their values and culture along with them during their immigration. The culture that corresponds with Islam varies from the Western liberal culture. This is because the majority of Islam is strictly set on the words of the Qu'ran that were written thousands of years ago. As a result of Islam's strong beliefs with their traditional values and practices, Islam will not be compatible with western/liberal beliefs and values. The religion of Islam is extremely set in keeping their faith traditional by strictly following the written word of the Qu'ran. • 32. Islam: Discrimination In The United States Religion Discrimination There are many religions throughout the world in today's society. One of the religions that is discriminated the most is Islam. Muslims who are part of the religion are hated because of a terrorist group called Isis. Some of the reasons why they are discriminated is because Isis shares the same religion, Americans think they are terrorist, and are the fastest growing religion in the world. Although people around the world look at this religion being terrorist, they need to understand that the innocent muslims don't want to be a part of the terrorist group. The Islamic religion began in the seventh century by Muhammad (https://www.gotquestions.org/Islam.html). It is scary to know that Muslims and Isis share the same ... But yet, they were blamed for what terrorist have done.Americans differentiate between the "Muslim people" and the "Muslim religion" and they view Islam more unfavorably than they do Muslims. This may have many reasons, but at the core, It is probably easier for many Americans with strong anti–discrimination to express dislike of an abstract idea rather than to appear prejudiced toward people. The contrasting American attitudes on Islam and Muslims have been around for some time, though views of Islam have particularly worsened in the months after 9/11. They never recovered, even the early days of Arab uprising, which generated more sympathy among americans. • 33. Islam In America Research Paper Yui Kikuchi Feb.24.2017 HRS 145 Harvey Stark Islam in America In last decade, the United States has become an immigrant society once again, approximately one million immigrants annually entered. It was large number of immigrants compared to United States history, but also there are lot of diversity in religion and in the characteristics of the new immigrants. Muslims are one the large number of immigrants who became citizens now in America. However, there are no clear data or number of how many Muslims live in the United States now. Muslim in America or American Islam has both some equality and quite challenges living in United States society. Immigration is one of the challenge for Islam after the 9/11 incident. There is one true story in Moustafa Bayoumi, it is about one boy who got separated with his father right after the 9/11. The story is mainly about Rami, who is Palestinian who lives in America, and his father who arrested for being accused of being terrorist and went to jail because of the incident. Through the story, author shows us how difficult it was to live in United Stated as Muslim back them. Today in 2017, is it becoming better and easy for Islam to live in this society. In... • 34. The Spread Of Islamophobia After 9/11 Attacks Sheryar Mirza Professor Eve Van Bergen WRT–102 11/18/15 Research Paper: Islamophobia In recent years, the prevalence of Islamophobia has been on the rise, with a huge outbreak right after the attacks of 9/11 and the recent attacks in Paris. Oxford Dictionary defines Islamophobia as "the dislike of or prejudice against Islam or Muslims, especially as a political force". Before we can understand Islamophobia in depth, we must understand the definition of racialization, which is the combination of the ideology that the human race is divided into distinct races, a "historical power relationship" in which groups are racialized are based on specific characteristics that were natural of that group, and forms of discrimination flowing from this hatred ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The European influence throughout Islamic regions of South Asia and Africa lead to the rise of hatred towards Islam and the perception that "Muslims are all foreigners who cannot adapt to Western society" (KayaoДџlu 611). This disgust and animosity receded until recent times in the tragic unfolding of the 9/11 attacks on the United States. There are those who assert that Islamophobia signifies a new societal reality that "contemporary anti–Islamic events, incidents, discourse are the result of several recent factors like the 9/11 attacks" (KayaoДџlu 610). Islamophobia has been prevalent in the past, and the recent attacks of 9/11 have created the most societal issues and controversies for Muslims, as Islamophobia "frustrates non–Western communities" and "threaten the possibility of global coexistence" (KayaoДџlu 613). ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, is a contradiction to this statement for the Muslim community however, as they threaten global peace through their bloody theology: beheadings, rape within invaded communities, and full on attacks on the people and the values of Western society (Vick 14–15). This "Islamic terrorist group," however, is wrongly perceived as Islamic (as ISIS murders Muslims) and the number of Muslims actually a part of or in support of the group is an anomaly compared to the near 50% of Islamophobic Americans who hold a strong, negative view of Islam, as a 2006 Washington Post poll suggests (Imhoff 811). Muslims underwent discrimination since the beginning stages of immigration into the United States. Muslim experiences before the 9/11 attacks were not thoroughly studied until the issue of Islamophobia became prevalent in this present day. Well–known researcher Edward Said was an early Arab–American scholar who theorized racialization throughout the 1980's. In her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. Essay on Islam and Democracy: Mutually Exclusive? The September 11th terrorist attacks unleashed unimaginable devastation upon the United States and subsequently upon the Arab–Islamic world. While the government of the United States scrambled jets and prepared soldiers for war, there was another battle, arguably more important than the war the United States was preparing to wage. This battle was waged not on battlefields but in classrooms, between scholars who struggled to define and rectify the democratic deficit in the Muslim world. Theories have been offered ranging from Islam and democracy being diametrically opposed, all the way to Islam considering democracy, or democratic principles, as essential. Lurking in the midst of these two extreme theories are the more moderate and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After WWI, Great Britain and France dissected the Ottoman Empire and arbitrarily authored new national boundaries. In 1953, the British and the United States, in a concerted effort, overthrew the democratically elected Mohammad Mosaddeq because he sought to nationalize Iranian oil; a direct threat to American and British interests. In March of 2003 the United States contravened the wishes of the international community by invading the sovereign Arab state of Iraq. Thousands of American troops remain there as an occupying force. These actions by Western democratic powers marginalized the communities in which they intervened and engendered those same societies with a false view of democracy which remains prevalent today. Furthermore, the West in general and the United States in particular, has been accused of, and rightly so, holding the Arab –Islamic world to a double standard. Historically and contemporarily the United States has supported repressive regimes such as those in Saudi Arabia, Iran under the Shah, and Pakistan under Zia ul–Haq, when doing so was in its political and military interests. Support of these repressive regimes was tendered while simultaneously speaking of freedom and "supporting" the democratization of the Muslim world. As a result, it is likely that cited incompatibilities are not between Islam and democracy per se, but rather between Islam and attempts at compelled democratization by ... • 36. Donald Trump And Islamophobia The word 'Islamophobia' refers to the fear, dislike, suspicion, or hatred of Muslims. As irrational prejudices go, this one is a fairly new phenomenon. It became most prominent after the September 2001 terrorist attacks in the United States, but certainly existed prior to that (Sheridan 2006). Islamophobia is nourished by a number of misconceptions which are related to but distinct from these attacks. The so–called 'War on Terror' is sometimes perceived as a war on Islam. Muslims are depicted in the media and by the United States' government as 'hating freedom', though as we will see this idea does not make any sense. The present paper is a discussion of the sources of, and irrationalities involved in, Islamophobia. It is true that the 9/11 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Donald Trump, who by some sort of bizarre cosmic accident is now being taken seriously as possibly becoming the next President of the United States, has made a number of comments exhibiting his own Islamophobia. To be fair to Trump, it is not just Islam that he has a problem with. He is simply an unapologetic racist. But his comments upon Islam in general, and on the Muslims living in the United States in particular, do have consequences. One of the claims that Trump has made is that "Islam hates us, there's a tremendous hatred" (Struyk 2016). Let us set aside the fact that this is not even an English sentence, in as much as Islam is a religion, not a person or set of persons (and therefore is not capable of hatred or any other emotion). Let us examine the claim that Muslims hate the United States. The claim is plainly false if it is made about all Muslims. But it is true that many Muslims hate the United States. At the outset of the paper it was suggested that there are good reasons that Muslims hate the United States. For the country routinely kills innocent Muslims. It has illegally invaded and continues to occupy at least two partly Islamic countries. It supports Israel's daily terrorist actions against Palestinians. So there are arguably many good reasons for Muslims to hate the United ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Origins of the Islamic Religion in the United States Essay Origins of the Islamic Religion in the United States The beginning of Islam in the United States can be traced to the earliest days of the slave trade. While many of the slaves brought to America practiced traditional African religions, many of the slaves from West Africa were predominately Muslim. In fact a significant number of black Africans brought to North America during the slave trade were Muslim. Due to the overwhelming Christian presence during the slave trade, slaves were not allowed to practice their Muslim faith. The Christian slave owners attempted to force their slaves to convert to Christianity. They were not as successful as they deemed. The muslims continued to ... There are two different groups of Muslims, the Shiites, and the Sunni. The Shiites are those who support the decedents of Muhhamad as their rightful successors. The Sunni believed that the elections of the first three caliphs were valid. There are five specific rituals that Muslims must follow. These rituals are known as the five pillars of Islam. These rituals are as follows: 1) Profession of faith. As a matter of fact, the word Islam means submission to Allah. • 39. United States Aggression Against Islam United States aggression against Islam: As noted above, the main goal of al Qaeda propaganda is to convince the Muslim world (ummah) that the West is waging a war on (or conducting a "crusade" against) Islam. All of the detainees at Guantanamo are Muslim, many were jailed without any involvement with al Qaeda, the Taliban, or militant behavior at all, (Fox News) and some abused. (Center for Constitutional Rights) These facts, manipulated correctly and placed into a certain context, could be used to convince a susceptible audience that the United States is operating the prison partially to persecute Muslim men, and as an example of the US targeting Muslims generally. Al Qaeda uses this imagined war as a rallying cry to convince a small minority in the Muslim world to join its cause, as well as a justification for its actions – casting them as a "defensive jihad" against the enemies of the faith. In situations when the faith is attacked, according to Daveed Gartenstein–Ross, "each Muslim has an individual obligation to join the battle ... this must be done by all Muslims," and as Todd Helmus writes, "Al Qaeda thus calls Muslims to Islam 's defense." (121) The Canadian Center for Intelligence and Security Studies report explains that, "Al Qaeda 's propaganda portrays the current socio–political system as one that oppresses and discriminates against Muslims, who are the victims of an international world order dominated by the West – the aggressor and enemy of Islam."
