ignorance and want
Set up against the rampant industrialization of the 18th century, Charles Dickens classic novella "A Christmas Carol" endorses the notion that all
people have a responsibility to ensure the safety and welfare of every member of society. By taking his seemingly irredeemable protagonist Ebenezer
Scrooge on an other worldly journey. Dickens intends to convey to the complacent classes of the age, the necessity of various traits that are essential in
life, such as the responsibility for those whom are less fortunate and other vital traits such as charity, generosity and simply caring for others. Dickens
warns the reader of the consequences that will follow if these lessons are not taken into consideration.
Through the use of characters such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dickens also uses his characters to endorse other lessons that he believed were essential in keeping Christmas 'well'. Scrooge's behavior in Stave 1
towards the two portly gentlemen and his rudeness displayed towards his 'ruddy' nephew Fred, encapsulates all the attitudes

A Study On Leap Of Faith
Leap of Faith I peered over the edge of the cliff, staring down at the murky water below, the incessant roar of the waterfall on my left reverberated in
my ears. "Go on... jump!" my brother Josh prodded, impatiently shifting from one foot to the other. The last word he said seemed to echo and grow
louder with each repetition, taunting me as I fearfully faltered away from the edge. I was standing in a cave behind one of the Tavoro waterfalls in
Taveuni, Fiji. My parents, two brothers, and I were in Fiji on a 2 week mission trip. We'd spent most of the two weeks at a bustling compound,
Vatuvonu Adventist School and Church, which consisted of a school, a church, a clinic, a few worn–down huts, assorted administration and dorm
buildings, and a rickety dock with huge spaces in–between the worn wooden planks. While there we helped build a platform for a generator, fixed up
a church, and ran a medical and dentistry clinic with the thirty other people in our mission group. We spent 10 of our 14 days at the compound, then
took a ferry to Taveuni so we could stay at a resort for a few days. We wanted to explore the islands a bit and see what Fiji had to offer. We went
snorkeling, we explored the tiny towns and villages, we went swimming in the Pacific Ocean, we rode a horse, we went flying in a tiny plane, and we
tried many local foods. On one of our last days in Fiji we took a 2–hour bus ride to Bouma National Heritage Park, and hiked to the first Tavoro
waterfall. After

Character Analysis : Ebenezer Scrooge
Ebenezer Scrooge had changed a lot throughout the screenplay and movies. In the story, Scrooge had started out as a rich miser who didn't care
about anything but himself and his business. He ended up being a kind man who helped everyone he could and gave back to the community. He had
changed in many ways and had been shown what he had become. Marley helped Scrooge realize that he had made everyone turn away from him and
think poorly of him, and that some people like Bob Cratchit and his nephew, had hoped that he could change. Scrooge's encounters with the spirits
had shown him the most. During his encounters with the Ghost of Christmas Past, he had seen his relationship and mood change. When he was a
little boy in school, Scrooge was more concentrated on his schoolwork. He shut himself out at the early age, and was alone for most of his
childhood, leading to his misunderstanding of compassion. When he was older, he had stayed at the schoolhouse for most of his childhood, until he
went home with his sister. Because of this, the years to come were Scrooge's most cheerful years, in which he is apprenticed by a good man. In the
final years of his prime, he had relationship troubles and was losing his nobler aspirations. When his love had left him, he probably became the
Scrooge we find in the beginning of the story. The Ghost of Christmas Past's actions left Scrooge scared, yet curious to see what the Ghost of Christmas
Present will show to him. The encounter with the Ghost

Scrooge returns to the home of Jacob Marley, where Marley's ghost tells him that he is going to have three ghosts visit him in the near future. The
ghosts will give Scrooge an opportunity to reform himself. The text explicitly states that Scrooge was a tight fisted hand at the grindstone. Moreover, he
was a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, matured sinner! Accordingly, his self–contained personality made him solitary as
an oyster. In the text, it states, that Scrooge did not want to donate money to the poor since he could better use the money for himself. Scrooge
declined to even to let his clerk have a day off for Christmas! The text explicitly said "it was a day that his clerk was allowed to rob him!" Scrooge
finally agreed to let him have the day off with half pay. Scrooge's catchphrase was "Bah!Humbug!''.
Scrooge earns the ghost of Christmas past come visit him first. The first stop they bring about is looking at his gloomy childhood. Soon after he tells
the ghost that earlier in the evening that he should have given the child and elder a coin for caroling. The second stop they lead to is when he spent a
Christmas vacation at school and his sister finally picked him up. We also learn right after this that his sister is now dead and his nephew is her son.
Stop three is about how hard he partied with his friends. Later he earn the meaning...his clerk might have wanted to do this, but couldn't due to Scrooge.

Tiny Smiling Daddy
In Tiny, Smiling Daddy, the main conflict is that Kitty becomes a lesbian at a young age and her father doesn't approve of it. He shows his
disapproval, by trying to compare the "sullen, morbid Kitty of sixteen with the slender, self–possessed." He calls her names and makes her feel
depressed about herself.
The mother in the story plays the good parent that supports her daughter, but her husband does not. So she is eventually leaving him because he puts
her down as well. She tries to be the mediator between her daughter and husband, but she can not change what he is thinking.

I Am A Cripple By Nancy Mairs
I AM a Cripple When my older sister, Molly, was ten years old, she was a temporary cripple. Molly went through a pretty big surgery that would
stop her from tripping over her pigeon toed legs. While living a couple months in her wheelchair, an uncle of ours came to visit. His warm welcome
to my sister was pushing her into a corner, locking her wheelchair, and calling her a windowlicker. Thankfully, my sister has tough skin. She took
what others would find scarring, all as a joke. It is hard not to be reminded of the unexpected response my sister gave while reading the essay "I AM a
Cripple" by Nancy Mairs. Within this essay, the author describes her life as a cripple suffering with MS. While sharing her thoughts and emotions
(gerund) from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mairs usage of the Handicapper General allusion ties to another allusion she uses to express more of her feelings of being a cripple. The narrator uses
Tiny Tim from the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens to portray her emotions about being a cripple when others' thoughts and opinions are
involved. She knows that she is a cripple and others think less of her abilities, but this takes a toll on her as sometimes she ends up "feeling like
Tiny Tim, peering over the edge of the table at the Christmas goose, waving my crutch, piping down God's blessing on us all" (Mairs). Tiny Tim is
a character in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, who is disabled. Even though he is a cripple, he is still always happy and positive about life.
The narrator uses him to achieve an obvious visual image of her emotion of frustration . Mairs usage of Tiny Tim as an allusion connects directly to
the next allusion she uses to emphasize her feelings. Her emotions occasionally get taken over by anger and frustration and she admits "sometimes I
don't want to play Tiny Tim. I'd rather be a Caliban, a scurvy monster" (Mairs). Caliban, a misshapen, nasty monster (App), hates people and life in
general. In addition, to turn his life around he lives on an island by himself. Caliban connects to the narrator as they both make decisions to think

Scrooge Character Analysis
Can people really change? Throughout the play, A Christmas Carol, Scrooge changed as a person and as an employer. Scrooge's character started
out as an old cranky miser who cared about no one except himself and his earnings. He was so and in the end he came out as one of the most
generous and caring people in the town. He became a second father to Tiny Tim. The spirits showed him his mistakes and he learned from them
therefore becoming a better person who cares more about people's well being than his money. The spirit of Christmas Past came at the last strike of
twelve.
When Scrooge was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past he was shown his mistakes from the past with which Scrooge hated seeing. He was
shown where he worked, where he grew up, and when he broke up with his lost love. Losing Belle, Scrooge didn't forgive himself and tried to
throw away all feelings except anger and hate. He was touched by seeing his old life, when it was good. He wanted to reverse time to fix his
future. He couldn't do anything to or about his past self, so in a way he wasn't even there, and so he was left watching what he's done to himself.
Although missing his old schoolmaster and hating himself for messing up his relationship with Belle, he loved being part of Fezziwig's party again
and seeing all of his coworkers once more. He then returned ready for the next spirit. Later when he awoke, he was greeted by the second spirit. The

Scrooge
Just so you know before we get started the author clearly states that Marley dead, dead, dead, dead. This is about Scrooge, who is a phenomenally
sorrowful, dismal, person that is very oblivious to lots of people in cruel, bitter ways. He absolutely despises all things that include happiness and
generosity, especially Christmas, accordingly the text states that people try to sing Christmas carols, but he made them leave. Charities approached
asking if he could donate to help the poor and he said cruel things. Then, his dead business partner Marley, who is now a ghost shows up. Scrooge puts
an effort frequently to forget and not believe it is him, consequently though, it is Marley. The ghost tells Scrooge he will have a chance to make up
the way he changes so he will not regret it when he is a ghost. To do this he will be haunted by three ghosts, nevertheless, they will show him the
error of his way at night, one ghosts per night, for three nights. Marley focuses on and on at trying to give Scrooge a chance to change the way he
acts, hopefully he will change. The text states though that he loves cheap items like darkness instead of light. This proves he is probably filthy, dull,
and his clothes are most likely shaggy and torn. He definitely is not a person you want to meet, that's for sure! Scrooge's intrusive catchphrase is "
Bah Humbug!" so, obviously he says that to a lot of people. His nephew wishes that he will celebrate Christmas with him, but he says no in

Descriptive Essay On Christmas
Though it was usually cold in Scrooge's house, the people and joy spread warmth everyone, hugging them like a blanket. It was Christmas Eve, the
year after the ghosts had visited Scrooge, and he had to admit this was the best Christmas by far, next to the one he spent at Mr. Fezziwig's. During
all this festiveness, Scrooge started pondering about his past Christmases, and how they had been so very dull and lifeless. He had been so obsessed
with not wasting money that he didn't even have a fire going to save the money on the coal.
Someone interrupted his thoughts. Bob Cratchit had come over and asked him if he would like some punch. He remembered how little he used to pay
Bob, so little that the bird they ate was only a quarter of the size of the one now at the party, and he couldn't even afford toys for his children.
Nowadays, Bob got a better, more sustainable wage, good enough to help Tiny Tim, his son. He constantly donated money and visited the
orphanages, and he had even adopted two young beautiful girls of his own, who were his pride and joy. He named one Fan, like his sister, and Belle,
like the name of the love of his life that he lost. Though he still wasn't married, he was happy to be his daughter's favourite parent ( he was the only).
Once again, someone else halted his thoughts. His nephew, Fred, was asking when dinner was going to be served.
Scrooge had completely forgotten about dinner! Why he hadn't even started cooking! How were the turkey, squash, and

Satire About Scrooge
Scrooge is overly grumpy and has extortionate avarice. He is a little miserly ol' curmudgeon. He hates things like happiness, kindness, and Christmas
until a clique of three apparitions comes and shows him otherwise. Scrooge was definitely not very liberal, but he is odious, and misanthropic.
Scrooge was a miserable, depressed, heavy–hearted man. According to the text, no one ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, with a gladsome
look, "My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?" Scrooge has an unfortunate reputation of being antisocial, depressed,
negative, untrustworthy. Scrooge is extremely uncaring, and thoughtless to the poor people, as he thinks there is a jail for poor people. In general,
Scrooge is just very negative. The triplet of ghosts comes to show Scrooge the reasons of why it is bad to be negative, antisocial, and untrustworthy.
Scrooge is a gargantuan jerk. The three ghosts give Scrooge a last chance to change his unfortunate, bad reputation into a fortunate, positive reputation.
The first of the three spirits was the spirit of Christmas past. The spirit of Christmas past took ol' dolorous Scrooge to see his past childhood. The
text states that "they passed through Scrooge's wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end." This city had vanished in
present time. "Good Heaven! Said Scrooge, clasping his hands together, as he looked about him. 'I was bred in this place, I was a boy here." The

Music : The Importance Of Music In The Film
Music has been playing a big role in film since sound could be added to a film, which takes us all the way back to the early 1900's. Music may be
something we listen to in the car, but songs can be used to portray many different factors in a film. Music can hint the viewer as to what the mood of
characters may be, the setting of a given place, or even the time frame in which the movie took place. Music helps the director steer their movie in one
way or another, depending on their choice of music. The movie Almost Famous featured portions of 68 different songs performed by various artists
throughout the 60's and early 70's.
For a movie that revolves around music it comes to no surprise that in the very first minutes of the movie playing a song is already playing. The song
played is The Chipmunk Song by The Chipmunks. Now when you look at the screen, you'd find yourself a bit confused as to why Christmas music is
playing during what appears to be summer time. This selection proves to be significant because the Christmas music opens us up to the personality of
Anita and William's over–protective, christian–based, traditional valued mother. Their mother seeks to protect the kids from everything of the world
which is where she celebrates Christmas in September, because it isn't commercialized at that time.
Due to the rebellious nature of Anita, and she and her mother's disagreement on appropriate music, she decides to move out. In this early part of the
movie, she makes her

Scrooge Symbolism
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person with no feeling for the people around him. Dickens doesn't like this and says it is a big no–no is his
world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn't get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone else is
celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmas cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He
does not have any joy, but he's not depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people's day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it
states "he was a tight–fisted hand at the grind–stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!" He can
also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the
information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving.
The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the "Ghost of Christmas Past" (Scrooge's past), even the spirit quotes "I am the Ghost of Christmas Past" in
it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to Scrooge's depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with bad
memories. Scrooge says "I wish"... "but it's too late now", the spirit asks his "what is the matter", Scrooge says, "Nothing. There was a boy singing a
Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something" that's all". This is Scrooge's first time thinking about doing something
favorable, after thinking about his childhood.
Then they go to another one of Scrooge's Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his little sister comes to bring him home, she said
that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks
they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge's fiancee says that he cares too much about money and not her so she breaks up with him.
The ghost then disappears through the floor. Scrooge wakes up and go to the other room to find lots food. He finds The Ghost of Christmas Present and

Scrooge Character Analysis
Scrooge is a miserly, old scoundrel of a man who is very weather worn and has no friends. From the inside out, he is a cranky, rough, heartless soul,
he does not like anybody. Accordingly, to the text, it says that he is the grumpiest grumpy that ever lived, he was a tight fisted hand at the
grindstone, a squeezing wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, old sinner! Hard and sharp as a flint, from which no steel had struck out
generous fire;secret, and self contained, and solitary as an oyster. Scrooge is greedy, ungrateful, and selfish. He does not care about his nephew. He
doesn't care that his nephew fell in love and got married. Scrooge is so mean, cruel and selfish that when three men come to ask if he will donate to
the poor, not only does he not give any money, he also says that the homeless can go to a homeless jail or go work in a factory.
In the second stave, the first of the three spirits, Scrooge is in his room and then all of a sudden the doors flew open and his old friend and business
partner was in the room, the man is a ghost, was MARLEY! Marley communicated to him and said there will be three ghost's one of Christmas past,
one of Christmas present, and one of Christmas future. They will arrive at one, each of them separate. They will show you the meaning of Christmas

Old Scrooge : A Trio Of Carol In The Carol's Carol
Old Scrooge is talked about in the text as a "tight–fisted hand at the grindstone" meaning hard working and a "a squeezing, wrenching, grasping,

that they're married because they married for love. This old miser especially doesn't help the poor and hates Christmas! His response to both is"Bah
Humbug"!The text describes him even more stating "the cold within him froze his old features, nipped at his pointed nose, shriveled his cheeks,
stiffened his gait, made his eyes red , frosty rime on his head, his thin lips blue and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice. Scrooge might just stay
that way, but, can a trio of spirits change the covetous, sinister ways of Scrooge?
After Marley's unexpected visit, Scrooge finally goes to sleep. Scrooge awakens to a dark night, when the chimes of a church struck the four quarters,
so he decides to listen for the hour.
He is astonished as the heavy bell went on passed six, seven, eight, up to twelve, twelve o'clock! He had slept an entire day and so far into another.
According to the text, "all he could make out was, that it was still very foggy and extremely cold, and that there was no noise of people running to

Dickens' A Christmas Carol and the Industrial Revolution
Besides being the secular story of Christmas time in an
urban setting, A Christmas Carol, tells the sacred story of
Christmas as well. With A Christmas Carol,Dickens initiated an
ongoing creative process in the Anglo–American imagination. As a
result of the Industrial Revolution and the growth and
development of cities people's lives changed drastically as they
moved from the life and traditions of the country into those of the
city. As industrialization continued, for many people in the city
living and working conditions worsened. As reports of horrible

While some argue that Dickens was prompted by the plight
of the poor to write a story bringing some of the traditional
Christmas spirit to the city using a secular story, there is clear
evidence that Dickens looked to religious beliefs and Christian
values as a way to keep Christmas sacred and also as a way to
respond to the problems society was facing. In particular, the time
Scrooge spends with the Ghost of Christmas Future shows how
Dickens asserts various Christian values. Just as Jesus speaks of
welcoming and caring for children as a way of honoring God,
Dickens' story suggests the same moral and Christian value; in this
case the caring for Tiny Tim and his poor family as a way of
honoring God. A more symbolic lesson can be seen by
comparing Tiny Tim's grave with Scrooge's. When Bob Cratchit

In The Epic of Gilgamesh food and drink appear in tiny moments and events with huge significance and symbolism. If you delve deep into the details
and themes of food in The Epic of Gilgamesh, you will discover symbolism with profound meaning. One of the most obvious examples is how Enkidu
wandered the wilderness as a beast surviving on only grass and water. He is transformed by his first taste of bread and beer. Food and drink represent
much more than sustenance, it is what separates humans and animals, the underworld from the above and it serves as a transformative metaphor for life.

Tiny House Housing
Just as many people across the country are looking to tiny homes as an affordable housing option, there are also many communities that are looking to
tiny house villages as a method of providing affordable living options for the homeless in their cities. These small villages of tiny homes, usually built
by volunteers, answer many of the housing issues faced by cities with little affordable housing options and overwhelming homeless populations. These
tiny house villages, however, are often plagued with challenges such as conflicting city ordinances, building codes, and zoning plans. Tiny Houses for

First, in these cases land for the villages, labor for construction, and many of the materials to build were donated and volunteered. Second, the long term
cost of operation and maintenance of the villages is not addressed. While neither of these issues are unsurmountable obstacles, they need to be
considered by communities proposing tiny house villages as long–term solutions to homelessness.
Solving a Community Issue
Cost of Homelessness
As Lundahl points out, the cost of homelessness to communities can be quite substantial. The scope of the problem affects communities from the local
neighborhood and city levels all the way up to state and federal levels. While her article points out that Denver, CO estimates that each homeless
person costs over $15,000 per year, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness states that some studies have shown areas where this cost
can reach $30,000 to $50,000 per year (Ending, 2017).
Whichever value is considered, it becomes clear that when comparing the cost of providing affordable housing solutions to the cost of addressing

Each School will have different demographics with who is attending the school, what their annual tuition and fees are and where they are located.
All of these will play a factor in the amount of devices that will be purchased at each school. Private schools typically have higher tuition and fees
than public schools, so private school students will be more accepting of the device's charges in their fees than public school students who watch
their fees much closer. Consumer Tastes will heavily rely on the danger of the schools and the crime climate in the town in which that school is
located. For example, in cities with much lower crime and overall much safer, students will have a much more difficult time paying money for a
device that they "don't" need. But with that being said though schools who already have excellent safety statistics, will want to keep that superior
level of safety and an extra "layer" of safety would be ideal for safer schools too. Schools that are located in a town or city with higher crime rates,
will be willing to pay the fees in order to protect themselves and feel more comfortable. The important idea behind Tiny Knight that any student, large
city or small town, safe campus or dangerous, can benefit just knowing that if worst case scenario

Character Analysis Of Scrooge
This text states that Scrooge was extremely greedy; an example of his greediness would be when the people that were asking for donations visited,
he straight up told them he didn't believe in charity for the sake of the government supplied help to those in need. From the reading, I know that
Scrooge was impolite as when he insulted his nephew's wife and their marriage for it involved love. This article explicitly states him as being a
cold–hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his
employee can rob him.
The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn't even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so his clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm.
Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost on his head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to
discourage a human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to live when he was younger and there were fields
on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that lead to the place. He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around,
and anon there was one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. It was seen as if his sister ran into the room and was ecstatic that their father wanted
him back and to return.
In the stave following that, which is stave 3 he was met by the ghost of Christmas present and it showed him different people

Descriptive Essay On Scrooge
Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person that is commanding and doesn't feel for anyone. Dickens doesn't like this and says it is a big no–no is
his world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn't get why Christmas is such a big deal. In fact, he hates the Christmas
cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he's not depressed. Scrooge
almost wants to damage people's day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states "he was a tight–fisted hand at the grind–stone,
Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!" He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the
rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements,
resilient and unforgiving. Even though he is freaked out from before he still checks out a dark, gloomy building, showing he is brave. But Scrooge is
dead.
This is Scrooge's first time thinking about doing something
good after thinking about himself from his childhood.
Then they go to another one of Scrooge's Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that
their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks they
made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge's fiancee says that he cares too much about money and not her so she breaks up with him. The
ghost then disappears through the floor. Scrooge wakes up and

Tiny House Mission Statement
Mission Statement: To decrease homelessness and increase "legitimate" affordable housing through Tiny Homes. The goal for this community need
assessment is to support tiny house residents who seek stability and affordable housing as part of a self–starting lifestyle that can be manageable and
maintained. The purpose of the tiny houses is helping homelessness decrease in the community, providing an alternative approach to housing homeless.
There has been a shortage of low–income housing and finding housing for homeless has been an issue for many years now. More than 3.5 million
people experience homelessness and poverty in the United States each year, according to the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty.
Chronically homeless people are homeless for long periods of time that it can be costly to systems of public care. ... Show more content on

The cost to make a tiny house would be approximately $10,000–$12,000. Tiny houses are truly affordable; we hope to have them built by volunteers on
donated land. According to Charter for Compassion, the cost of tiny homes in Newfield, NY is $12,000 per unit housing 18 residents in 18 houses,
and in Madison, WI they have 10–15 residents, 11 houses totaling at $5,000 per house. Research shows that residents at the tiny homes foster a positive
relationship with other residents, law enforcement, and local government. The residents will have common shared space such as laundry, shared
showers, garden space, a community room and garden space. We hope this neighborhood design will fit their needs and help them become more
self–efficient. The shared space can help them create a community of support. Other communities they have developed tiny home communities have

Is Scrooge A Selfish Person
Even though Scrooge was selfish at the beginning he still should deserve a second chance. In the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a
protagonist named Scrooge, was a selfish and mean person but then he changes throughout the story. I describe him as selfish, unfriendly, and a
kind person. The reason why I described him as a selfish person is because he didn't give money to the poors and thought they were scumbags. The
second reason why I called Scrooge a unfriendly person is because he didn't want to go to his nephew's dinner and he doesn't say kind things to people.
The last reason why I think Scrooge is a kind person is because at the end he gave money to the poors and felt sorry for Tiny Tim. Scrooge does change
from being selfish and unfriendly person to a kind person in the end.
First, Scrooge is a selfish person and he only cares about himself. On page 256 Scrooge says,"I wish to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish, sir,
that is my answer. I don't' make merry myself at Christmas, and I can't afford to make idle people merry." This shows how Scrooge doesn't want to
help the poors which means he only cares about himself. On page 264 Belle says,"We have never lied to one another. May you be happy in the life
you have chosen." This describes how he didn't care about Belle or his girlfriend and only cared about his money. On page 268 Scrooge says, "You
are the third. The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. Speak to me. Tell me what happen
– to me, to all of us." This

Tiny Housing Movement: The Tiny House Movement
Tiny Homes have sparked a revolution called "The Tiny House Movement." The Tiny House Movement classifies a tiny home as a "typical
American home is around 2,600 square feet, whereas the typical small or tiny house is between 100 and 400 square feet." (The Tiny Life, 2015)
Materialism can be a dark cloud that's over your head for your entire life to working from paycheck after paycheck for your desires. Therefore tiny
housing can help you live a rather simple lifestyle that is free of materialism or a lifestyle of necessaries. Furthermore, tiny housing have spread across
the United States from Washington DC to California. Tiny housing can provide a cheap alternative housing that can solve housing for an increasing US
population.

A Christmas Carol Analysis
Live without Regret
"The magic of Christmas is not in the presents but in His presence"– Unknown. The story A Christmas Carol is the story of an elderly man named
Ebenezer Scrooge. The story takes place in London, England in 1843, in the beginning of the story Mr.Scrooge is a grumpy old man until three spirits
visit him. Throughout the story Scrooge changed his outlook on life, he gained sympathy and he became more giving. In this essay I will be talking
about how Scrooge's attitude changes throughout the story, how the spirits made him feel guilty through the feeling of sympathy and how he became
more charitable.
Throughout the story Scrooge's attitude changes. He starts off the story being a grumpy old man that not many people like. He yells at them and
is disrespectful. Some examples of this are, he doesn't accept his nephew's invitation for supper, and he wants to cut Mr. Cratchit's salary since he
is going to miss a day for Christmas. However after the spirits visit him, he starts to feel regret. For instance, while the spirits were showing him
memories, he was feeling sorry for his past actions, he didn't want to watch them and was afraid of what was to come. Towards the end of the story
he becomes happier. He feels bad for what he has done to the people around him in the past. For this reason he buys the Cratchit's a big turkey since he
has overworked and underpaid Bob Cratchit. In summary, at the beginning of the story Scrooge is an angry grumpy old man but after the spirits
visit him he realizes that he should be happier and nicer to people or he will die alone. During the story while the spirits are visiting Scrooge he
starts to feel guilty. They make him feel guilty by showing him his past memories. The spirit of Christmas past showed Scrooge the memories of
when he lost the love of his life because he was being too greedy and too focused on his business. The spirit of Christmas Present showed him what is
currently happening at the Cratchit house. Scrooge sees the Cratchits eating supper, and the spirit tells Scrooge that he needs to help Tiny Tim because
he is dying. The spirit of Christmas Future showed Scrooge what is going to happen to him. Scrooge is shown a funeral for Tiny Tim with lots

A Character Analysis Of The Character Of Scrooge
Scrooge is an overly grumpy, greedy, curmudgeon, mild, insensitive, thoughtless, dolorous, elderly man who lives in a house all by himself. He
has silver, gray hair, a pointed nose, and wiry chin. He acts like a harsh, miserable, lonely, gloomy, and depressed fellow. He also was very
unfriendly to those young fellows who were trying to gather donations for the poor. When Scrooge was younger, he was actually very kind and
generous to the people around him. Scrooge is very inconsiderate of others, and according to the text on page one, stave one it said that " No wind

According to the text the first of spirits Scrooge met was the past. When the first of the three spirits (the past) brought Scrooge to see himself in
the past, it was very tragic for Scrooge. The lesson that Scrooge learns is that never let good time with family and friends pass by. A example from the
text that it was tragic for Scrooge was that the text said said " Remove me, Scrooge exclaimed, I cannot bear it!". In the passage it states that as soon as
Scrooge passed through his very own wall he said " Good Heaven! Scrooge said, clasping his hands together, as he looked about him. " I was bred in

Tiny House Movement
Buying a home is one of the biggest milestones a person can accomplish, and in the American society, bigger is usually better. With larger homes, there
is a certain sense of prestige and wealth that comes along with them. Unfortunately, what home buyers do not tend to know, is just how bad that home
is to not only their health, but to the environment and their wallets as well. That is why, over these past few years, there has been a significant shift to
what is known as the Tiny House Movement. However, before we embark on the tale that is the Tiny House Movement, we first must understand the
traditional home. As of 2015, the average home in America was about 2,600 square feet, and would cost generally anywhere between one–third to a
half of any given pay. At those numbers, it takes on average fifteen years to pay off the home which leaves about 76% of Americans living paycheck
to paycheck just keep a roof over their heads (The Tiny Life).
While it easy to only focus on the cost of the home, it is incredibly important to consider just want that house is doing to the environment. If we take a
trip back to 1981, the average home used about 183 million British thermal units, also known as BTU. By 2012, the number rose to 188.7 million
BTUs (DeSilver). As of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tiny houses average out to be about 2.4 by 5 meters, or is generally bellow 500 to 400 square feet. They retain all the same living spaces that a
traditional home has, such a living area, kitchen, sleeping loft, kitchen and bathroom that are configured to be easily placed on trailer, allowing them to
be movable. A great benefit that comes with mobility is that one does not have to own the land in which it sits upon, cutting one cost right out of the

The Size Of A Tiny House
Less is More
According to the Census Bureau, the average American home is about 2,600 square feet. While national home size continues to rise, there is a growing
population of Americans in favor of small and tiny houses. Reality TV shows including Tiny House Hunting, Tiny House Building, TinyHouse Nation,
and Tiny House, Big Living, have brought national attention to the movement. A typical tiny house falls between 100 and 400 square feet. The tiny
house movement is one possible solution for individual financial and environmental concerns. Most tiny homeowners also cite a simpler lifestyle as a
main factor for choosing to "live tiny."
One of the greatest benefits of living in a tiny house is the relatively low cost. The average tiny house costs around $50,000 but can cost significantly
more or less depending on building materials used, location, and luxuries included. Forbes estimates the cost at $200 to $400 per square foot. This
makes tiny houses a great option for people who can't afford a downpayment on a larger home, but would rather be putting their money towards
owning something rather than paying rent. DIY homebuilders accumulate expenses over time throughout the building process rather than all at once,
which works well as long as you have somewhere else to live in the meantime. Tiny houses are often seen as a way to pay off loans or live debt free
with the opportunity to spend less time working.
Prefabricated homes can be purchased at nearly every stage of

A Christmas Carol Scrooge Essay
Once, Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer, said, "Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality." Some people may think
that you can only look at things in one perspective, your own. Unfortunately, in the play A Christmas Carol, Ebenezer Scrooge believes just this.
Scrooge believes that the way he looks at life, at the poor, is the right way to look at life. He does not know that there is more than one way to look at
life, most of all he believes there is only one correct way to look at reality. He is self–centered and unable to be sympathetic and has empathy. With the
help of three Christmas spirits and his dead business partner Jacob Marley, Scrooge blossoms into a kind–hearted man. Realizing what type of person
he was Scrooge is determined to change his future and become a new man and he does.
In the beginning, Scrooge was an unkind man. He did not care for others nor did he treat people equally. When Scrooge spoke to Fred, his nephew, he
was rude and ungrateful. Fred invited Scrooge to dinner and he rudely declined. Even ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Scrooge. When Scrooge finally changes his ways it's when the Spirit of Christmas Future is showing Scrooge his grave. The spirit is pointing at the
grave but then Scrooge says, "Is this what will happen or what may happen?" Then, the finger starts to waver and shake, eventually, Scrooge vows to

A Christmas Carol : A Carol's Carol
Just so we know before the story starts the author clearly states that Marley dead, dead, dead, dead. This is about Scrooge, who is a phenomenally
sorrowful, dismal, person that is extremely oblivious to multiple people in cruel, bitter ways. He absolutely despises all objects and feelings that
include happiness and generosity, especially Christmas, accordingly the text states that people try to serenade others with Christmas carols, but he
made them leave. Two gentlemen from a local charity visited Scrooge at his office asking him for a donation to help the poverty–stricken, and he
responded to their request with these words, "Aren't there prisons and union workhouses they can just live in?" Then, his perished business partner
Marley, who is now a ghost shows up. Putting forth great effort, Scrooge attempted to forget his deceased partner of many years,Jacob Marley. During
his visit, the Ghost of Jacob Marley tried endlessly to convince Scrooge to change his ways. To do this he will have three ghosts haunt him,
nevertheless, they will show him the error of his way at night, one spirit per night, for three nights. The text states though that he prefers inexpensive
necessities like darkness instead of light. This proves he is probably filthy, dull, and his clothes are likely to be shaggy and torn. He definitely is not a
person anyone wants to meet, that's for sure! Scrooge's intrusive catchphrase is " Bah Humbug!" so, obviously he says that to a decent amount of people.

Character Analysis Of Scrooge
A disrespectful, cheapskate, tightwad, elderly man alright! In the story, Ebenezer (Scrooge) is a tawdry, bitter, curmudgeon man, you could also
say he's a firebrand sometimes. All he cares for is his MONEY! The author describes him as a very cruel man, he's cruel because based on what I read
is that he doesn't care much for poor people or anyone in need. From the reading, I know he's very self–centered and because of that, he doesn't want to
"waste" his money on those people, from the text he would seem to be very unpleasant to be around because he's always grumpy and mean. In the
story, Scrooge is VERY unsympathetic about his clerk! For, example he won't spend extra money to by heating for the clerk who's in a raggedy
old jacket. Another example is, he's also VERY impolite because in the reading he insults his nephew's spouse because they had gotten married
based on love. From the text, he's always very hateful to his nephew who is nothing but kind and caring for him.Based on what I read, he also has
a very dull personality because the only thing he shows is boredom and anger! He never does anything exciting in his life it's always the same old
routine. In the text, Scrooge is also very cruel because he almost hit a man in the face with a ruler! Just because the man was caroling. The story
also describes Scrooge as always so serious and pretty lazy because all he does is sit around and do nothing but count money. Based on what I read,
Scrooge is always scowling at

Tiny Tim's role is to resemble the effect of the actions scrooge takes part in. If Scrooge would have kept the same negative attitude towards Bob

Why did Bob Cratchit continue to show Scrooge respect even though Scrooge treated him so poorly?
Bob Cratchit had a different perspective of life than scrooge. Bob tried to make everything around him positive unlike Scrooge who was always
filled with negative thoughts and ideas. With Bob's personality even if something wasn't all great he would do his best to make it as positive as it
could possibly be. With his attitude towards things he took Scrooge's negative thoughts and did his best to make them positive. He showed respect to
Scrooge because he wanted to be the better person and hopefully try to reflect some of his nicer personality onto Scrooge.

In A Christmas carol, how does Dickens make the reader aware of the conditions of the poor in the 19th century? In what ways does he make his

The story of 'A Christmas Carol' is set in Charles Dickens home town of London. In the Victorian period Londoners were split in two categories, the
rich and poor and the streets were filled with diseases and many poor children died at young ages. There were many big families who had small but
affordable meals throughout the year, but for one day in the year they attempted to earn as much money as they could so families could have a special

But Bob Cratchit who worked for Scrooge as a clerk was treated even worse then most poor workers who were never treated with dignity.
He was paid below the average pay for a regular poor worker, so struggled to pay for food and his family bills. He had to work in terrible
conditions, for example Scrooge looked after the coal box and wouldn't give Cratchit fclerk put on his white comforter, and tried to warm himself
at the candle; in which efforts, not being a man of strong imagination, he failed.' Bob Cratchit really loved Christmas and when he applauded
Scrooge's nephew talking to Scrooge about how great Christmas was, Scrooge said, 'Let me hear another sound from you and you'll keep your
Christmas by losing your situation.' Scrooge had threatened to sack Bob Cratchit so close to Christmas and just shows how mean he was and how
poorly workers were treated in Victorian times. In Dickens time workers were paid poor money but they had to rely on this income so much because
if a poor person didn't have this small amount of money they would surely have to live on the streets begging for food and would find it difficult to
get another job which is why
Bob Cratchit can't argue with Scrooge's dismal treatment of him and he just has to cope with it. Cratchit had to work everyday in the year, except

Ignorance And Want

  • 1. ignorance and want Set up against the rampant industrialization of the 18th century, Charles Dickens classic novella "A Christmas Carol" endorses the notion that all people have a responsibility to ensure the safety and welfare of every member of society. By taking his seemingly irredeemable protagonist Ebenezer Scrooge on an other worldly journey. Dickens intends to convey to the complacent classes of the age, the necessity of various traits that are essential in life, such as the responsibility for those whom are less fortunate and other vital traits such as charity, generosity and simply caring for others. Dickens warns the reader of the consequences that will follow if these lessons are not taken into consideration. Through the use of characters such ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 2. A Study On Leap Of Faith Leap of Faith I peered over the edge of the cliff, staring down at the murky water below, the incessant roar of the waterfall on my left reverberated in my ears. "Go on... jump!" my brother Josh prodded, impatiently shifting from one foot to the other. The last word he said seemed to echo and grow louder with each repetition, taunting me as I fearfully faltered away from the edge. I was standing in a cave behind one of the Tavoro waterfalls in Taveuni, Fiji. My parents, two brothers, and I were in Fiji on a 2 week mission trip. We'd spent most of the two weeks at a bustling compound, Vatuvonu Adventist School and Church, which consisted of a school, a church, a clinic, a few worn–down huts, assorted administration and dorm buildings, and a rickety dock with huge spaces in–between the worn wooden planks. While there we helped build a platform for a generator, fixed up a church, and ran a medical and dentistry clinic with the thirty other people in our mission group. We spent 10 of our 14 days at the compound, then took a ferry to Taveuni so we could stay at a resort for a few days. We wanted to explore the islands a bit and see what Fiji had to offer. We went snorkeling, we explored the tiny towns and villages, we went swimming in the Pacific Ocean, we rode a horse, we went flying in a tiny plane, and we tried many local foods. On one of our last days in Fiji we took a 2–hour bus ride to Bouma National Heritage Park, and hiked to the first Tavoro waterfall. After ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Character Analysis : Ebenezer Scrooge Ebenezer Scrooge had changed a lot throughout the screenplay and movies. In the story, Scrooge had started out as a rich miser who didn't care about anything but himself and his business. He ended up being a kind man who helped everyone he could and gave back to the community. He had changed in many ways and had been shown what he had become. Marley helped Scrooge realize that he had made everyone turn away from him and think poorly of him, and that some people like Bob Cratchit and his nephew, had hoped that he could change. Scrooge's encounters with the spirits had shown him the most. During his encounters with the Ghost of Christmas Past, he had seen his relationship and mood change. When he was a little boy in school, Scrooge was more concentrated on his schoolwork. He shut himself out at the early age, and was alone for most of his childhood, leading to his misunderstanding of compassion. When he was older, he had stayed at the schoolhouse for most of his childhood, until he went home with his sister. Because of this, the years to come were Scrooge's most cheerful years, in which he is apprenticed by a good man. In the final years of his prime, he had relationship troubles and was losing his nobler aspirations. When his love had left him, he probably became the Scrooge we find in the beginning of the story. The Ghost of Christmas Past's actions left Scrooge scared, yet curious to see what the Ghost of Christmas Present will show to him. The encounter with the Ghost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. I Am A Cripple By Nancy Mairs I AM a Cripple When my older sister, Molly, was ten years old, she was a temporary cripple. Molly went through a pretty big surgery that would stop her from tripping over her pigeon toed legs. While living a couple months in her wheelchair, an uncle of ours came to visit. His warm welcome to my sister was pushing her into a corner, locking her wheelchair, and calling her a windowlicker. Thankfully, my sister has tough skin. She took what others would find scarring, all as a joke. It is hard not to be reminded of the unexpected response my sister gave while reading the essay "I AM a Cripple" by Nancy Mairs. Within this essay, the author describes her life as a cripple suffering with MS. While sharing her thoughts and emotions (gerund) from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mairs usage of the Handicapper General allusion ties to another allusion she uses to express more of her feelings of being a cripple. The narrator uses Tiny Tim from the story A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens to portray her emotions about being a cripple when others' thoughts and opinions are involved. She knows that she is a cripple and others think less of her abilities, but this takes a toll on her as sometimes she ends up "feeling like Tiny Tim, peering over the edge of the table at the Christmas goose, waving my crutch, piping down God's blessing on us all" (Mairs). Tiny Tim is a character in A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, who is disabled. Even though he is a cripple, he is still always happy and positive about life. The narrator uses him to achieve an obvious visual image of her emotion of frustration . Mairs usage of Tiny Tim as an allusion connects directly to the next allusion she uses to emphasize her feelings. Her emotions occasionally get taken over by anger and frustration and she admits "sometimes I don't want to play Tiny Tim. I'd rather be a Caliban, a scurvy monster" (Mairs). Caliban, a misshapen, nasty monster (App), hates people and life in general. In addition, to turn his life around he lives on an island by himself. • 10. Scrooge Character Analysis Can people really change? Throughout the play, A Christmas Carol, Scrooge changed as a person and as an employer. Scrooge's character started out as an old cranky miser who cared about no one except himself and his earnings. He was so and in the end he came out as one of the most generous and caring people in the town. He became a second father to Tiny Tim. The spirits showed him his mistakes and he learned from them therefore becoming a better person who cares more about people's well being than his money. The spirit of Christmas Past came at the last strike of twelve. When Scrooge was visited by the Ghost of Christmas Past he was shown his mistakes from the past with which Scrooge hated seeing. He was shown where he worked, where he grew up, and when he broke up with his lost love. Losing Belle, Scrooge didn't forgive himself and tried to throw away all feelings except anger and hate. He was touched by seeing his old life, when it was good. He wanted to reverse time to fix his future. He couldn't do anything to or about his past self, so in a way he wasn't even there, and so he was left watching what he's done to himself. Although missing his old schoolmaster and hating himself for messing up his relationship with Belle, he loved being part of Fezziwig's party again and seeing all of his coworkers once more. He then returned ready for the next spirit. Later when he awoke, he was greeted by the second spirit. The Ghost of Christmas Present. Scrooge already ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Descriptive Essay On Scrooge Scrooge Just so you know before we get started the author clearly states that Marley dead, dead, dead, dead. This is about Scrooge, who is a phenomenally sorrowful, dismal, person that is very oblivious to lots of people in cruel, bitter ways. He absolutely despises all things that include happiness and generosity, especially Christmas, accordingly the text states that people try to sing Christmas carols, but he made them leave. Charities approached asking if he could donate to help the poor and he said cruel things. Then, his dead business partner Marley, who is now a ghost shows up. Scrooge puts an effort frequently to forget and not believe it is him, consequently though, it is Marley. The ghost tells Scrooge he will have a chance to make up the way he changes so he will not regret it when he is a ghost. To do this he will be haunted by three ghosts, nevertheless, they will show him the error of his way at night, one ghosts per night, for three nights. Marley focuses on and on at trying to give Scrooge a chance to change the way he acts, hopefully he will change. The text states though that he loves cheap items like darkness instead of light. This proves he is probably filthy, dull, and his clothes are most likely shaggy and torn. He definitely is not a person you want to meet, that's for sure! Scrooge's intrusive catchphrase is " Bah Humbug!" so, obviously he says that to a lot of people. His nephew wishes that he will celebrate Christmas with him, but he says no in ... • 12. Descriptive Essay On Christmas Though it was usually cold in Scrooge's house, the people and joy spread warmth everyone, hugging them like a blanket. It was Christmas Eve, the year after the ghosts had visited Scrooge, and he had to admit this was the best Christmas by far, next to the one he spent at Mr. Fezziwig's. During all this festiveness, Scrooge started pondering about his past Christmases, and how they had been so very dull and lifeless. He had been so obsessed with not wasting money that he didn't even have a fire going to save the money on the coal. Someone interrupted his thoughts. Bob Cratchit had come over and asked him if he would like some punch. He remembered how little he used to pay Bob, so little that the bird they ate was only a quarter of the size of the one now at the party, and he couldn't even afford toys for his children. Nowadays, Bob got a better, more sustainable wage, good enough to help Tiny Tim, his son. He constantly donated money and visited the orphanages, and he had even adopted two young beautiful girls of his own, who were his pride and joy. He named one Fan, like his sister, and Belle, like the name of the love of his life that he lost. How were the turkey, squash, and ... • 13. Satire About Scrooge Scrooge is overly grumpy and has extortionate avarice. He is a little miserly ol' curmudgeon. He hates things like happiness, kindness, and Christmas until a clique of three apparitions comes and shows him otherwise. Scrooge was definitely not very liberal, but he is odious, and misanthropic. Scrooge was a miserable, depressed, heavy–hearted man. According to the text, no one ever stopped Scrooge in the street to say, with a gladsome look, "My dear Scrooge, how are you? When will you come to see me?" Scrooge has an unfortunate reputation of being antisocial, depressed, negative, untrustworthy. Scrooge is extremely uncaring, and thoughtless to the poor people, as he thinks there is a jail for poor people. In general, Scrooge is just very negative. The text states that "they passed through Scrooge's wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end." This city had vanished in present time. "Good Heaven! • 15. Music : The Importance Of Music In The Film Music has been playing a big role in film since sound could be added to a film, which takes us all the way back to the early 1900's. Music may be something we listen to in the car, but songs can be used to portray many different factors in a film. Music can hint the viewer as to what the mood of characters may be, the setting of a given place, or even the time frame in which the movie took place. Music helps the director steer their movie in one way or another, depending on their choice of music. The movie Almost Famous featured portions of 68 different songs performed by various artists throughout the 60's and early 70's. For a movie that revolves around music it comes to no surprise that in the very first minutes of the movie playing a song is already playing. The song played is The Chipmunk Song by The Chipmunks. Now when you look at the screen, you'd find yourself a bit confused as to why Christmas music is playing during what appears to be summer time. This selection proves to be significant because the Christmas music opens us up to the personality of Anita and William's over–protective, christian–based, traditional valued mother. Their mother seeks to protect the kids from everything of the world which is where she celebrates Christmas in September, because it isn't commercialized at that time. Due to the rebellious nature of Anita, and she and her mother's disagreement on appropriate music, she decides to move out. In this early part of the movie, she makes her ... • 16. Scrooge Symbolism Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person with no feeling for the people around him. Dickens doesn't like this and says it is a big no–no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn't get why Christmas is such a big deal, even though everyone else is celebrating it with cheer. In fact, he hates the Christmas cheer and expresses his feelings. He despises poor people and say that they should go to jail. He does not have any joy, but he's not depressed. Scrooge almost wants to damage people's day and does it often. The text says he is a hard worker as it states "he was a tight–fisted hand at the grind–stone, Scrooge! A squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner!" He can also really stand the elements, the cold., the hot, the rain, the snow, the... anything. Not only can he withstand the elements, but based on the information from the text I inferred that he is the elements, resilient and unforgiving. The text explicitly states that the Spirit is the "Ghost of Christmas Past" (Scrooge's past), even the spirit quotes "I am the Ghost of Christmas Past" in it conversation with Scrooge. First they went to Scrooge's depressed and disheartened childhood. Immediately after seeing himself, he sobs with bad memories. Scrooge says "I wish"... "but it's too late now", the spirit asks his "what is the matter", Scrooge says, "Nothing. There was a boy singing a Christmas Carol at my door last night. I should like to have given him something" that's all". This is Scrooge's first time thinking about doing something favorable, after thinking about his childhood. Then they go to another one of Scrooge's Christmas breaks spent at school, but in this instance, his little sister comes to bring him home, she said that their dad finally let little Ebenezer come home for good. Lastly Scrooge remembers the time he had partied one Christmas and for a few bucks they made the whole neighborhood of kids happy. Scrooge's fiancee says that he cares too much about money and not her so she breaks up with him. The ghost then disappears through the floor. • 17. Scrooge Character Analysis Scrooge is a miserly, old scoundrel of a man who is very weather worn and has no friends. From the inside out, he is a cranky, rough, heartless soul, he does not like anybody. Accordingly, to the text, it says that he is the grumpiest grumpy that ever lived, he was a tight fisted hand at the grindstone, a squeezing wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, old sinner! Hard and sharp as a flint, from which no steel had struck out generous fire;secret, and self contained, and solitary as an oyster. Scrooge is greedy, ungrateful, and selfish. He does not care about his nephew. He doesn't care that his nephew fell in love and got married. Scrooge is so mean, cruel and selfish that when three men come to ask if he will donate to the poor, not only does he not give any money, he also says that the homeless can go to a homeless jail or go work in a factory. In the second stave, the first of the three spirits, Scrooge is in his room and then all of a sudden the doors flew open and his old friend and business partner was in the room, the man is a ghost, was MARLEY! Marley communicated to him and said there will be three ghost's one of Christmas past, one of Christmas present, and one of Christmas future. They will arrive at one, each of them separate. • 18. Old Scrooge : A Trio Of Carol In The Carol's Carol Old Scrooge is talked about in the text as a "tight–fisted hand at the grindstone" meaning hard working and a "a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous, old sinner." It shows he refuses to come over for dinner to eat with his own nephew and his nephew's wife, he doesn't that they're married because they married for love. This old miser especially doesn't help the poor and hates Christmas! His response to both is"Bah Humbug"!The text describes him even more stating "the cold within him froze his old features, nipped at his pointed nose, shriveled his cheeks, stiffened his gait, made his eyes red , frosty rime on his head, his thin lips blue and spoke out shrewdly in his grating voice. Scrooge might just stay that way, but, can a trio of spirits change the covetous, sinister ways of Scrooge? After Marley's unexpected visit, Scrooge finally goes to sleep. Scrooge awakens to a dark night, when the chimes of a church struck the four quarters, so he decides to listen for the hour. He is astonished as the heavy bell went on passed six, seven, eight, up to twelve, twelve o'clock! He had slept an entire day and so far into another. According to the text, "all he could make out was, that it was still very foggy and extremely cold, and that there was no noise of people running to and fro, Scrooge thought more and more but, the more he thought the more perplexed he became, not only was he perplexed, he was exceedingly bothered by Marley's ghost as on page ... The three ghosts give Scrooge a last chance to change his unfortunate, bad reputation into a fortunate, positive reputation. The first of the three spirits was the spirit of Christmas past. The spirit of Christmas past took ol' dolorous Scrooge to see his past childhood. The text states that "they passed through Scrooge's wall, and stood upon an open country road, with fields on either end." This city had vanished in present time. "Good Heaven! Said Scrooge, clasping his hands together, as he looked about him. 'I was bred in this place, I was a boy here." The significance is that Scrooge learns to not be such a gargantuan jerk. Scrooge's feelings are as if he is being tortured by the spirit of Christmas past. As you would expect, Scrooge hated watching his childhood past, and begs the spirit of Christmas past to dispel him from his childhood. Scrooge very much is gargantuanly odious of watching his childhood, as he cannot bear it. The ghost of Christmas past takes Scrooge back. Scrooge wakes up, as it is about to be one o'clock. It already has happened once, so Scrooge is used to all of it now, so he stays calm, as he pulls apart the bed curtains all by himself, and Scrooge also prepares to not freak out this time, though, nothing happens. ... • 21. While some argue that Dickens was prompted by the plight of the poor to write a story bringing some of the traditional Christmas spirit to the city using a secular story, there is clear evidence that Dickens looked to religious beliefs and Christian values as a way to keep Christmas sacred and also as a way to respond to the problems society was facing. In particular, the time Scrooge spends with the Ghost of Christmas Future shows how Dickens asserts various Christian values. Just as Jesus speaks of welcoming and caring for children as a way of honoring God, Dickens' story suggests the same moral and Christian value; in this case the caring for Tiny Tim and his poor family as a way of honoring God. Tiny House Housing Just as many people across the country are looking to tiny homes as an affordable housing option, there are also many communities that are looking to tiny house villages as a method of providing affordable living options for the homeless in their cities. These small villages of tiny homes, usually built by volunteers, answer many of the housing issues faced by cities with little affordable housing options and overwhelming homeless populations. These tiny house villages, however, are often plagued with challenges such as conflicting city ordinances, building codes, and zoning plans. Second, the long term cost of operation and maintenance of the villages is not addressed. While neither of these issues are unsurmountable obstacles, they need to be considered by communities proposing tiny house villages as long–term solutions to homelessness. Solving a Community Issue Cost of Homelessness As Lundahl points out, the cost of homelessness to communities can be quite substantial. The scope of the problem affects communities from the local neighborhood and city levels all the way up to state and federal levels. While her article points out that Denver, CO estimates that each homeless person costs over $15,000 per year, the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness states that some studies have shown areas where this cost can reach $30,000 to $50,000 per year (Ending, 2017). Whichever value is considered, it becomes clear that when comparing the cost of providing affordable housing solutions to the cost of addressing homelessness, there is much more community value in providing long term housing solutions than to continuously pour money on the homeless problems. ... Character Analysis Of Scrooge This text states that Scrooge was extremely greedy; an example of his greediness would be when the people that were asking for donations visited, he straight up told them he didn't believe in charity for the sake of the government supplied help to those in need. From the reading, I know that Scrooge was impolite as when he insulted his nephew's wife and their marriage for it involved love. This article explicitly states him as being a cold–hearted, uncaring, and selfish person when he gave Christmas day off to his employee, and thereupon he says it is the only day of the year his employee can rob him. The next anecdote that follows that, it says he wouldn't even give his clerk a fire to keep warm, so his clerk used a candle hoping to stay warm. Based on what I read he had a pointed nose and frost on his head and was always a grumpy elderly man. Nevertheless, he always had a reason to discourage a human being. When the ghost of Christmas past came it showed him where he used to live when he was younger and there were fields on both sides of the road and a gigantic gate that lead to the place. He had seen a bunch of different scenes as children playing, kids running around, and anon there was one lonely boy by himself, sitting in a room. It was seen as if his sister ran into the room and was ecstatic that their father wanted him back and to return. • 26. Descriptive Essay On Scrooge Based on what I read Scrooge is a grumpy person that is commanding and doesn't feel for anyone. Dickens doesn't like this and says it is a big no–no is his world. Scrooge spends money on only what he needs to get by. He doesn't get why Christmas is such a big deal. Even though he is freaked out from before he still checks out a dark, gloomy building, showing he is brave. But Scrooge is dead. This is Scrooge's first time thinking about doing something good after thinking about himself from his childhood. In the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, a protagonist named Scrooge, was a selfish and mean person but then he changes throughout the story. I describe him as selfish, unfriendly, and a kind person. The reason why I described him as a selfish person is because he didn't give money to the poors and thought they were scumbags. The second reason why I called Scrooge a unfriendly person is because he didn't want to go to his nephew's dinner and he doesn't say kind things to people. The last reason why I think Scrooge is a kind person is because at the end he gave money to the poors and felt sorry for Tiny Tim. Scrooge does change from being selfish and unfriendly person to a kind person in the end. First, Scrooge is a selfish person and he only cares about himself. On page 256 Scrooge says,"I wish to be left alone. Since you ask me what I wish, sir, that is my answer. I don't' make merry myself at Christmas, and I can't afford to make idle people merry." This shows how Scrooge doesn't want to help the poors which means he only cares about himself. On page 264 Belle says,"We have never lied to one another. May you be happy in the life you have chosen." This describes how he didn't care about Belle or his girlfriend and only cared about his money. On page 268 Scrooge says, "You are the third. • 30. A Christmas Carol Analysis Live without Regret "The magic of Christmas is not in the presents but in His presence"– Unknown. The story A Christmas Carol is the story of an elderly man named Ebenezer Scrooge. The story takes place in London, England in 1843, in the beginning of the story Mr.Scrooge is a grumpy old man until three spirits visit him. Throughout the story Scrooge changed his outlook on life, he gained sympathy and he became more giving. In this essay I will be talking about how Scrooge's attitude changes throughout the story, how the spirits made him feel guilty through the feeling of sympathy and how he became more charitable. Throughout the story Scrooge's attitude changes. He starts off the story being a grumpy old man that not many people like. He yells at them and is disrespectful. Some examples of this are, he doesn't accept his nephew's invitation for supper, and he wants to cut Mr. Cratchit's salary since he is going to miss a day for Christmas. However after the spirits visit him, he starts to feel regret. For instance, while the spirits were showing him memories, he was feeling sorry for his past actions, he didn't want to watch them and was afraid of what was to come. Towards the end of the story he becomes happier. He feels bad for what he has done to the people around him in the past. For this reason he buys the Cratchit's a big turkey since he has overworked and underpaid Bob Cratchit. In summary, at the beginning of the story Scrooge is an angry grumpy old man but after the spirits visit him he realizes that he should be happier and nicer to people or he will die alone. During the story while the spirits are visiting Scrooge he starts to feel guilty. They make him feel guilty by showing him his past memories. The spirit of Christmas past showed Scrooge the memories of when he lost the love of his life because he was being too greedy and too focused on his business. The spirit of Christmas Present showed him what is currently happening at the Cratchit house. With larger homes, there is a certain sense of prestige and wealth that comes along with them. Unfortunately, what home buyers do not tend to know, is just how bad that home is to not only their health, but to the environment and their wallets as well. That is why, over these past few years, there has been a significant shift to what is known as the Tiny House Movement. However, before we embark on the tale that is the Tiny House Movement, we first must understand the traditional home. As of 2015, the average home in America was about 2,600 square feet, and would cost generally anywhere between one–third to a half of any given pay. At those numbers, it takes on average fifteen years to pay off the home which leaves about 76% of Americans living paycheck to paycheck just keep a roof over their heads (The Tiny Life). While it easy to only focus on the cost of the home, it is incredibly important to consider just want that house is doing to the environment. While national home size continues to rise, there is a growing population of Americans in favor of small and tiny houses. Reality TV shows including Tiny House Hunting, Tiny House Building, TinyHouse Nation, and Tiny House, Big Living, have brought national attention to the movement. A typical tiny house falls between 100 and 400 square feet. The tiny house movement is one possible solution for individual financial and environmental concerns. Most tiny homeowners also cite a simpler lifestyle as a main factor for choosing to "live tiny." One of the greatest benefits of living in a tiny house is the relatively low cost. The average tiny house costs around $50,000 but can cost significantly more or less depending on building materials used, location, and luxuries included. Forbes estimates the cost at $200 to $400 per square foot. This makes tiny houses a great option for people who can't afford a downpayment on a larger home, but would rather be putting their money towards owning something rather than paying rent. DIY homebuilders accumulate expenses over time throughout the building process rather than all at once, which works well as long as you have somewhere else to live in the meantime.
