This document discusses public misunderstanding and policy issues regarding genetically modified organisms (GMOs). It argues that the distinction between GMOs created through modern biotechnology and those created through traditional breeding methods is scientifically meaningless. All domesticated crops have been genetically modified from their wild ancestors through various artificial selection techniques over thousands of years. The document proposes using the term "adjusted organisms" instead of GMOs to enable unbiased discussion and revising EU policy to regulate products based on risk analysis rather than production method.
