WORLD WILDLIFE DAY
2017
“Listen to the Young Voices”
Seminar on
“Youths activity on wildlife conservation of Bangladesh ”
Presented By:
Mohiuddin Rifat
Syed Arif
Meaning of wildlife conservation
Wildlife includes all non-
domesticated plants, animals,
and other organisms.
Actually “Wildlife is any vertebrate
animal other than human being,
domesticated animals and fishes,
living in its natural habitat.”
Wildlife:
But cultivated plants and domesticated animals
are not included in wildlife!
Effects of Wild Life
1. Food chain and Ecosystem
Everything in the
natural world is
connected. An
ecosystem is a
community of living
and non-living
things that work
together.
2. Reduction in rare Wild
Animals
-Tigers
-Elephants
-Rhinos
-Gorilla
-Giant panda
-Marine turtles
According to WWF Most Critical Species are ---
3) Impact on Biodiversity
4) Loss genetic information
5) Loss of economic value
6. Beauty of Earth
Decline rate of Wildlife
Earth has lost half of its
wildlife in the past 40 years,
says WWF
CAUSES OF WILDLIFE DESTRUCTION
Habitat
DestructionMost critical factor in
species extinction.
• There now 20%
less forest cover
than existed 300 years
ago
Habitat Destruction
• Extensive human demand resulted into Habitat Loss.
• Rainforests , Tropical rainforests are cleared for
wood / timber resources
 development of petroleum resources
mineral resources
 for cash-crop plantations and subsistence farming
Poaching and hunting
Another major cause of animal species extinction.
National and International Wildlife Trade
• Pet Trade
• Fur Trade
• Meat Trade
• Body Parts Trade
 T Trade for Biomedical Research
A Picture From Sundarban
Pollution:
 Air, water, soil and noise pollution of
the magnitude and toxicity never
seen before is the major factor.
Man-wildlife conflict
Status of wildlife of Bangladesh
Bangladesh is widely known for its forest resources and wildlife. It
is home to around 22 species of amphibian, 19 species of marine
reptiles, 109 species of reptile, 388 species of birds, 105 species
of mammals and 5 species of marine mammals.

Discussion About The Theme
• World Wildlife Day will be celebrated in 2017 under the
theme “Listen to the Young Voices.” Given that almost
one quarter of the world’s population is aged between
10 and 24, vigorous efforts need to be made to
encourage young people, as the future leaders and
decision makers of the world, to act at both local and
global levels to protect endangered wildlife.
• World Wildlife Day 2017 encourages youth around the
world to rally together to address ongoing
major threats to wildlife including habitat
change, over-exploitation or illicit
trafficking. Youth are the agents of
change. In fact, we are already seeing the
positive impacts on conservation issues
made by some young conservation leaders
around the world. If they can help make a
change, you can too!
