ď‚— Educational Technology is given varied meanings by many
writers, researchers, experts, and practioners in this field.
Some of these definitions include the following:
1. Educational Technology is the development, application
and evaluation of systems, techniques and aids to
improve the process of human learning. (Lucido and
Borabo, 1997)
2. Educational Technology basically means all the
intellectual and operational efforts made during recent
years to regroup, arrange and systematized the
application of scientific methods to the organization of
new sets of equipment and material so as to optimize
learning process. (British Journal of Educational
Technology, 1971)
Learning is no longer have to
be one-size-fits-all or confined to
the classroom. It is important for us
or for the learners to learn in a
global classroom, acknowledging
that the classroom extends beyond
the physical walls. Since technology
allows 24/7 access to information
we are able to learn anytime and
anywhere we want.
The 21st century learner are
more inclined to information by
accessing the internet through
cell phones and computers or
chatting with friends on a social
networking site. There is a
constant social interaction
because you can interact with
your peers with so many ways it
unlike before.
The contents with the
help of technology can be
easily created and shared.
Because today there are many
tools that you can use to be
able to make your work easier.
Also it can be easily shared
with anyone with the help of
technology.
Educational technology tries to find out
the different variables of teaching their
interlinks effects upon each other
relationships, theories of teaching, phases of
teaching principles, maxims of teaching and
etc. By developing the theories of teaching,
it helps in improving the quality of
education.
Educational Technology tries to find out
the different variables of teaching their
interlinks effects upon each other,
relationships, etc. The principles maxims of
teaching are also evaluated by it. Overall , it
tries to establish better relationship between
teaching and learning.
Educational Technology facilitates more
and more of learning in less time. It takes
the help of various empirically established
generalizations from psychology, sociology,
physical sciences, engineering, etc.
Everything in this universe is
undergoing tremendous changes and with a
very fast speed. Educational Technology
helps in finding out the right objectives and
in enhancing the right objectives in the light
of the changed circumstances and changed
environment.
The changed type of environment with
new curriculum and new materials is to be
handled by the teacher. Right type of
training to the teachers is the need of the
hour. Educational Technology can render its
valuable help in the training of teachers.
Curriculum is the total teaching-
learning environment, which has to be
modified and remodeled in the light of the
latest thoughts. Keeping in view the
objectives of education, which have been
finalized by education technology
thereafter, comes the question of developing
the right type of curriculum. Educational
Technology can do this job of developing a
suitable curriculum.
Teaching- learning materials are also
important as anything else in the teaching-
learning process. They have to be in
accordance with the environment of
learners. Everything in the society including
values of life need to be reflected in the
materials. Because only the right materials
will be able to modify the behavior of the
learner suitably making him a fit person for
the society.
A strategy plays an important role in the
hands of a teacher in every teaching-
learning situation. The strategy has to be the
right one, which should be according to the
materials and is able to bring about effective
teaching-learning. The different strategies
are being evolved by Educational
Technology.
Audio-Visual aids have always played an
important role in the teaching-learning
process, they need to be use according to the
times. The software aids, the hardware aids,
the computer and other such appliances or
equipment, etc. have to be use in the
present type of teaching-learning
environment.
Educational Technology helps in
locating the problems in the different areas
of education. It also helps in remedying the
draw-backs. Evaluation of teaching-learning
process is also made better to because
through feedback, things are improved
thoroughly and there is better control over
the process of education. Thus, educational
technology can revolutionize the whole
process of teaching-learning.
Educational Technology identifies the
needs of the community, it helps in
providing equal education opportunities to
backward people, disadvantage students
and deprived sections of society.
Educational technology aims at identifying
the needs of the community from time to
time, then it tries to improve the community
in every possible way.

Roles and Functions of Educational Technology in the 21st Century Education

  • 2. ď‚— Educational Technology is given varied meanings by many writers, researchers, experts, and practioners in this field. Some of these definitions include the following: 1. Educational Technology is the development, application and evaluation of systems, techniques and aids to improve the process of human learning. (Lucido and Borabo, 1997) 2. Educational Technology basically means all the intellectual and operational efforts made during recent years to regroup, arrange and systematized the application of scientific methods to the organization of new sets of equipment and material so as to optimize learning process. (British Journal of Educational Technology, 1971)

  • 4. Learning is no longer have to be one-size-fits-all or confined to the classroom. It is important for us or for the learners to learn in a global classroom, acknowledging that the classroom extends beyond the physical walls. Since technology allows 24/7 access to information we are able to learn anytime and anywhere we want.
  • 5. The 21st century learner are more inclined to information by accessing the internet through cell phones and computers or chatting with friends on a social networking site. There is a constant social interaction because you can interact with your peers with so many ways it unlike before.
  • 6. The contents with the help of technology can be easily created and shared. Because today there are many tools that you can use to be able to make your work easier. Also it can be easily shared with anyone with the help of technology.

Educational technology tries to find out the different variables of teaching their interlinks effects upon each other relationships, theories of teaching, phases of teaching principles, maxims of teaching and etc. By developing the theories of teaching, it helps in improving the quality of education.

  • 11. Everything in this universe is undergoing tremendous changes and with a very fast speed. Educational Technology helps in finding out the right objectives and in enhancing the right objectives in the light of the changed circumstances and changed environment.
  • 12. The changed type of environment with new curriculum and new materials is to be handled by the teacher. Right type of training to the teachers is the need of the hour. Educational Technology can render its valuable help in the training of teachers.
  • 13. Curriculum is the total teaching- learning environment, which has to be modified and remodeled in the light of the latest thoughts. Keeping in view the objectives of education, which have been finalized by education technology thereafter, comes the question of developing the right type of curriculum. Educational Technology can do this job of developing a suitable curriculum.
  • 14. Teaching- learning materials are also important as anything else in the teaching- learning process. They have to be in accordance with the environment of learners. Everything in the society including values of life need to be reflected in the materials. Because only the right materials will be able to modify the behavior of the learner suitably making him a fit person for the society.
  • 15. A strategy plays an important role in the hands of a teacher in every teaching- learning situation. The strategy has to be the right one, which should be according to the materials and is able to bring about effective teaching-learning. The different strategies are being evolved by Educational Technology.
  • 16. Audio-Visual aids have always played an important role in the teaching-learning process, they need to be use according to the times. The software aids, the hardware aids, the computer and other such appliances or equipment, etc. have to be use in the present type of teaching-learning environment.
  • 17. Educational Technology helps in locating the problems in the different areas of education. It also helps in remedying the draw-backs. Evaluation of teaching-learning process is also made better to because through feedback, things are improved thoroughly and there is better control over the process of education. Thus, educational technology can revolutionize the whole process of teaching-learning.
  • 18. Educational Technology identifies the needs of the community, it helps in providing equal education opportunities to backward people, disadvantage students and deprived sections of society. Educational technology aims at identifying the needs of the community from time to time, then it tries to improve the community in every possible way.
