2. Saiga
Saiga is the only antelope that lived on the territory of Romania. The famous
mammal described by Dimitrie Cantemir as still part of the Moldavian fauna
at the time. The animal was well known especially in Moldova, where the
razes hunters were called. The species does not do well today, disappearing
recently from the majority of Russian and Ukrainian steppes. At present,
only 50,000 copies of the 4-5 million were still surviving at the level of 1900
3. Great auk
The great auk was a specie of flightless alcid(they have got wings but they
do not fly).They were named by sailors.They lived in Europe.The great auk
was discovered before the penguins.They were about 85 cm tall.Great auk
ate plankton and, possibly, fish and crustaceans.They started to extinct in
1775 because of the predation of and humans massive exploitation that
reduced the population.Finally,in 1852 they extinct.
