7. Four Principles of Effective Technology Integration 1. Student use of Technology All of the students had the opportunity to watch the demonstration on updating the blog, and at one time throughout the unit they all had a chance to help with the updates. They were definitely all actively involved, the only problem was it was only for a short amount. 2.Technology Use is Essential Updating the blog was not completely necessary, but it integrated really well with the unit. One thing that was enhanced well was the parent involvement that came through the updates. Parents were then able to keep up with the class plants and see their students’ work. 3. Focus on Learning Task All the information and pictures were about the plants. The students were using the computer, but got very excited about the plant/science unit and talking more about it. 4. Added Value This activity could have been done without technology and would have been a lot easier without it, but the learning benefits were worth it. The repetition helped the students and made them think through the process and how they could effectively explain it. By using this it involved the parents more also which was so helpful.
