There are currently 2 lights behind the character.
Where are they positioned?
One is positioned to the left of the character and the
another is positioned North, above his head.
What health and safety points did you need to
remember when arranging this lighting set up?
We made sure we used a good set of welder's gloves will
prevent painful burns when using the lighting equipment.
However, common sense will also kept us from burning
our own fingers meaning we kept a distance from the
equipment
Level 2 - Where would you be likely to see this lighting effect
being used?
If you steer clear of shooting directly into a light, be it
artificial light or natural, because you fear the end result.

The first idea is to keep you ISO as low as possible
to avoid noise in shadow areas,

The key light should be placed slightly above the head of your subject.
By placing the key light to the side of your subject, you will be
preventing the background from lightening up.
What health and safety points did you need to remember when
arranging this lighting set up?
The hazard with this is that the back drop sheet could fall if not
correctly caused (this is something that occurred during our
previous studio lighting shoot). This problem must be solved as it
could fall on a crew member causing them an injury. not only
this, but it would also disturb the shoot, wasting time putting it
back up again.

being used?
Low-key lighting is a style of lighting for photography and
film. It is a necessary element in creating a chiaroscuro
effect.
Level 3 - How does this lighting effect create atmosphere?
It tends to heighten the sense of alienation felt by the
viewer, hence is commonly used in ‘film noir’ and
horror/thriller genres.
4. Under-lighting How many lights?
There is one efficient light used to create this effect.
Where are they positioned?
The light is usually placed underneath the subject.
What health and safety points did you need to remember when
arranging this lighting set up?
As a safety precaution realize that most artificial light sources get
hot and movie lights get extremely hot therefore by wearing
gloves, you can’t prevent this.

This technique is mainly used in horror genres.

Seeing as the technique is mainly used in horror genres, it
particularly creates a tense, spooky mood and therefore,
intrigues the audience.
5. Top Lighting
How many lights and where are they positioned?
When the upper areas of a subject are lit by a source generating from above it.
What health and safety points did you need to remember when arranging this
lighting set up?
Seeing as the lighting is placed above the head, before proceeding with the
filming- I must make sure its correctly secured.
Level 2 – Where would you be likely to see this lighting effect being used?
This effect is most likely used in Music Videos to emphasize the star.
Level 3 - How does this lighting effect create atmosphere?
It is used to remove shadows produced by the key lighting. It can also create the
illusion of a bright, sunny day.
