1. HOW ARE VIDEOS MADE?
Now because of the development of technology music videos
can be made using animation, live action filming e.g.
performance and narrative approaches such as abstract
filming. A budget is included in any music video however the
budget can be larger if the artist themselves is successful.
To make a music video from start to finish it involves a whole
film crew such as producer, editor, the artist, dance crew
(optional) and a director, however there are many more.
Usually it takes on average 2 days to film the artist and any
dancers if they are involved, during this when filming the artist
does not actually sing but lip syncs and the soundtrack is put in
after during editing. Editing usually takes a few weeks to be
fully done.
The video is then promoted by different people via social
media, companies and websites etc.
2. MAIN COMPANIES TO SHOW MUSIC
VIDEOS?
The larger conglomerates are those such as:
Sony Music
Universal
Warner Brothers
Some of you may be familiar with these linking to
Television and Film.
3. WHERE CAN YOU FIND MUSIC VIDEOS?
Music Channels:
MTV (One of the first to based their format around them in
the 1980’s)
Smash Hits
Kiss
Magic
Due to technological convergence there is more
accessibility to music videos rather than just on TV, such
as Youtube (Used on laptops and tablets) Social media
e.g. Facebook and on the companies or artists websites,
especially if the music video is just released usually to help
promote the song they post it on websites.
4. THE PURPOSE OF MUSIC VIDEOS?
The main purpose of music videos is for marketing to
promote the sale of music recordings, income is a big
factor for a music video so that the artist/company can
continue to make more music videos as the success of
them is based on the money the do make. Music videos
also allow to bring awareness of the artist and in future
they will hopefully have more sales on the next single by
buying a CD or online. Furthermore by creating a music
video it gives the opportunity to be put on more outlets
such as websites, music channels and Youtube.
