2. I have chosen to use the opening scene from Casino
Royale and the title sequence from LA NOIRE because I
believe they are very similar to each other but they also
have some differences too. I am going to focus
specifically on Genre, Representation and Mise En
Scene because I think these are the most important 3
when looking at certain parts throughout each clip and
are the most obvious when comparing.
3. Representation
• The clear similarities between the Casino Royale opening scene and
the title sequence from LA Noire is that they both seem to mainly
focus on the male gender and the lack of importance of women
during the era the clips were based on. Although in LA Noire there are
female characters visible, they're not significant to the main title
sequence. This brings the idea that the female gender was not
significant or important at all and staying at home whilst the male
gender goes out to work and earns a living. Similarly, in Casino Royale
the aspect of the male gender being more superior to females. In the
Casino Royale there are 3 main characters, all male. The idea of male
gender roles being superior isnt unusual within movie clips and/or
title sequences.
4. Genre- Casino Royale
• Action, thriller and adventure.
• The opening scene shows the
thriller genre as it is very exciting
and brings the listener/watcher
in to continue watching.
• It adds tension to the audience
and this is typical of an action
thriller movie.
5. Genre- LA Noire
• LA Noire is adventure and action
game based around the 1940s
Los Angeles street/city life.
• Although the title sequence for
this game doesn’t show many
genres within the title sequence,
we see the game as a mystery or
an action type of game. We
know it is action because the
violence shown in the sequence,
also it seems there is a lot to
find out which is very enticing.
6. Mise En Scene
Casino Royale
• A very high contrast between the
black and the white
• Main character wearing a smart
suit and tie which depicts power
and sophistication which reveals a
lot about the character just looking
at the outfit.
• Lighting on main characters face
shows a darker side and a lighter
side to the character, makes you
feel intrigued into finding out
more.
LA Noire
• Shot in dull colors
• Characters wearing outfits which
suite the time period it is set in
(1940s) and also shows what
type of people the sequence is
about.
• Scene shows where abouts the
title is set/based on(Los Angeles)
