Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process
Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process
The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member of Society respects others and plays a role that
allows you to take advantage of their potential to the fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions
should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women bear the main burden of food production and
child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well–being.
The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding personality traits (for example, children are aggressive),
skills (for example, girls are good for reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in many
cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is
more variation among parents; some have traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons. Similarly, some
parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family
roles). Finally, parents (especially men) tend to be more rigid in their expectations for the

Effects Of Socialization
Socialization is defined as the "process by which individuals acquire thoughts, feelings, and behaviors "appropriate" to their positions in society,"
(Rohall 149). Individuals experience socialization beginning the day they are born, and throughout most of their lives. It can occur through everyday
observation and interaction at every stage of development, or it can occur more formally though education and mentors. Socialization is important to
how individuals interact in society and it also plays a part in most aspects of social psychology. An important aspect of socialization is our agents of
socialization. Agents of socialization are the groups in the individuals' lives that are most influential in teaching the thoughts, feelings, and ... Show

In a study titled "Racial Socialization and Racial Identity: African American Parents' Messages about Race as Precursors to Identity," Enrique Neblett
looked at the patterns of racial socialization in a sample of 358 African American adolescents and identified 3 patterns of socialization experiences,
High Positive, Moderate Positive, and Low Frequency (Neblett 189). The study found that a large portion of children reported that their parents
highly emphasized on racial pride as well as taught them about racial barriers. The remaining children provided information that not all parents
convey messages about race to their children. This shows that some individuals agents of socialization play a large role in their understanding of their
race. In the study, they also state that African Americans awareness of race makes it possible for them to grapple with the significance of being
African American (Neblett 189). The children that were categorized as having High Positive or Moderate Positive experiences with socialization are
going to be more apt to understand their socialized position in society. This is important because "a strong ethnic identity is associated with greater
psychological well–being," (Rohall 153). Therefore, children, especially children from minority groups, who are socialized to have a strong identity
and can understand the significance of being a specific race, are more

Our Socialization Process is Assumed through the Media In America, women are known as the breadwinners of the family. They go off to work in the
morning while their husbands spend the day cleaning and cooking, some may even have a part–time job. Employed or not, the husband always makes
sure their woman is fed after a hard days work. Do these statements sound ridiculous to you as an American? Are they even feasible? Not in this
country, here things are the complete opposite. How do we know that? Because we have been socialized since day one of our existence to believe in
gender separation, as well as all other aspects of American society. So who does this to us? Family, friends, schools, and churches are a few. However, in

Viewers experience the reaction of a person who is rewarded, associate the reward with the product being advertised and then acquire positive
feelings about the product. (Percy & Woodside,1983) An example of this when referring to children has been in hot controversy over the past few
years. Cigarette companies are constantly trying to defend the fact that they try to lure young kids into the world of smoking through ads. These ads
show attractive settings, maybe a beach with clear blue water and carefree and happy people, maybe a couple, of course with a cigarette. Kids who
see this, observe a carefree, cool lifestyle want these benefits for themselves and begin smoking. This illustrates how easily children can be convinced.
We always thought cartoons were harmless, animated figures are purely entertainment. However, kids begin with cartoons that easily socialize and
next thing you know, "Americas young minds are spending two to four hours a day viewing… (t.v.)." (Spicher & Hudak,1997) Studies show
that children recall more information if it's presented verbally and visually– such as a t.v. screen.(Walma van der Molen & Van der Voort,1997) In a
society where we use the boob tube as both entertainment and baby–sitter, an average 20 hours a week could be fatal. In these harmless cartoons,
studies show that male characters outnumber female characters by about 4:1 and that only a small number of females are shown in

Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social
Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one 's sex. According to gender socialization
there are so many reasons why males and females act in different ways: they learn different social roles. For example, girls learn to do different
household chores such as: how to cook, how to clean, how to do sweep, how to take care of family etc and boys learn to work outside, how to earn
money, how to rule the world etc. The effect of family, school, media, society, interaction between two people are the reasons ofgender socialization.
Sometimes gender roles lead to inequality such as according to,"We should all be feminists" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, she shared a story from

There are so many different ways in our society by which people express their expectation about a boy or a girl. For example, when a baby comes
into the world he or she has to face either "Blue" or "Pink" reality. All around the world we can see that, babies are differentiated by the color, pink
stuffs for a girl and blue for a boy. When they grow up, they start act like a male or female because they receive the message from society about
their identity and act accordingly. That is how society constructs gender. Gender plays an important role in our society and society expects
different type of behaviors according to men and woman. Gender socialization teaches how to do play a role as a male and female in the society.
The set of gender socialization is made up with behaviors and attitudes which encourage a person characteristic based on his or her sex. Differences
between men and women are influenced by Our society, culture, norms, values, religious, media, rules and regulation. For example, when a girl fall
down we show her sympathy and take care to her, while a boy fall down we encourage him not to cry and ensure him that he will be ok. By way of
explanation gender socialization help from our identities as men or women. Masculine and feminine cultures and individuals generally differ in how
they communicate with others. For example, feminine people tend to self–disclose more often than masculine people,

Walmart Change Implementation Analysis : Walmart
Walmart Change Implementation Analysis Summary Walmart was started on a large visionary change. Sam Walton, the founder, started
Walmart when no other stores existed like the Walmart we know and appreciate today as consumers. The company was founded on a change.
Walmart was created to change how retail worked and no other retail store had yet offered lower prices with great service like walmart was created
to aim towards. As Walmart is approached with a merger of BIGGER Company, Inc., there is a specific process that needs to be followed to make
for a successful culture change in the organization. Before any specific approaches are used to create the merge, it needs to be established that the
leaders of the company play a very vital role in the change. Next, the start of the change needs to start with one of the three layers of organizational
culture. The company needs to focus on the organizational culture layer that plays an important role with Walmart as an already established company
because it is very important to consider how the current culture is is aligned with the set in place vision the company has (Kreitner 73). This
structured change approach is inevitable to have a more simple change for a merger and an easier change to the company 's existing culture. After the
culture and any issues that exist are acknowledged, it is time for the company to move on with the merging process. The merging companies need to
exchange the beliefs and norms that are preferred by

study, the authors discuss previous research findings that led to them to perform the study. One of said previous research findings, "Gender and the
meanings of adolescent romantic relationships: A focus on boys." (Giordano, Longmore and Manning, 2006), is that traditional sexual scripts label
girls as less sexual than boys, and in more need of protection and sexual guidance in learning about sex. Therefore, inadvertently labeling boys as
being the exact opposite. They study how, within their own friends, boys emphasize competition and make fun of those who express feeling and other
positive emotions for girls. Most boys connect feeling dominant with excitement. They are expected to not show feelings, and girls are expected to be
very emotional. In another previous study "Too Much Too Soon? Children, "Sexualization" (Bragg, Buckingham, Russell & Willet), they research
young people 's sexual cultures, more specifically, sexualized good. They conduct a study of how the products that retailers sell, prematurely sexualize
children. They came to the conclusion that the sexualization of children is very common. Unfortunately, it is an old tradition to have children and
young people be represented as objects for erotic contemplation by adults. They concluded that it

Gender Socialization And Gender Roles
In the last several years, numerous feminist movements have brought a great deal of attention to the gender equality issues many societies face. Is this
increased awareness helping towards a neutral gendered socialization process which will inevitably eliminate the inequality? Gender socialization is
the process where an individual is impacted by agents of socialization through their life stages which consequently creates the gender roles we see in
today's society. The only way to start working towards a gender equal world is by making changes towards the gender socialization process.
Gender socialization allows for the creation of gender roles and it is evident that most of the creation takes place during childhood. Gender roles
are the expected normative behaviors associated to one's biological sex (Carl & BГ©langer. 2015). The majority of young children are raised in
gendered environments as appose to the less common neutral gendered ones. As a result, they are exposed to gender stereotypes which will, more
often than not, stay with them throughout their entire lives. The importance of a gender neutral upbringing is crucial to eliminating the inequality
we face today and that is the message Gender Baby Food is trying to spread to new parents. Gender Baby Food is a satirical line of fake baby food
created by the Anxiety and Depression Association of America in hopes of targeting gender norms (Rose, 2016). The product comes in a wide

Socialization Reflection
"Our views and behavior depend to some degree on our social location in society–our gender, race, social class, religion, and so forth."(Barkan, 2013).
As I have grown up and my perspective of the world has broadened I have realized how narrow my views were. I grew up in Germany, Italy, and
Hungary before moving to the USA, but because I was so sheltered I really didn't know what was really happening in society. As I grew older I have
come to realize the socialization process did help me develop my values, beliefs, morals, my religious outlook, my political affiliations and what not.

As a baby we aren't born with culture. The people who are responsible for our socialization are our parents and others who we might associate
with...teachers, friends, etc. As a very small child we learn about the culture we were born in as well as our gender roles. Depending on some
cultures women for example are taught that they will be homemakers and do a large share of work. In my culture I learned my future role which
would be a daughter, friend, sister, a wife in the future possibly, and then maybe a mother. This is also thetime we learn what society expects of us; the
norms per say. This is also the time in our lives that our personality forms. While our personality has much to do with our upbringing and genes it also
is created by the culture we are in. "Research in geographical sciences has shown regional variation on a number of indicators–including public

Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis
Nature versus Nurture debate
Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they
influenced by the environment. When Genie the wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa "blank state" of learning due to the limited basic
skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture argument through Genie. The early stages of growth
are fundamentally crucial for children because they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully integrated
into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie to develop differently than the rest.
Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the age of 13 in her family's home, she was
strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). Genie walked in an inhuman way, she

Facebook Is A Negative Influence On Our Youth
Facebook is a negative influence on our youth because it takes away privacy, creates exposure to circumstances or thought's above their age, and has an
influence of negative socializing practices. Our youth's minds are easily influenced and what they perceive becomes the norm for them throughout
their life, making it difficult to change that mindset later in life. Facebook is a non–privacy site that allows anyone to be able to see a page and in
many cases private aspects of life posted to Facebook. Facebook has many ideas or thoughts that are not age appropriate posted all over different pages
that are easily accessible. Facebook also changes the socialization practices from meeting and spending time together to a more unsociable version of
sending instant messages. Facebook is an open book to someone's life depicting personal information, such as addresses, ages, interests, family
relations, and full names along with pictures. To a child this breach of personal information is catastrophic due to child predators that use this
information to seduce a child into false comfort. "Kids have always been exposed to risk, to embarrassing themselves, to making bad judgment calls,
but never before have those mistakes been so public and so permanent" (Dominus 99–91). Most of the information posted to this site is available online
indefinitely, which to a child is harmful due to the fact their maturity isn't high enough to understand what's acceptable and what's not, by the time this

The Army : The Socialization Process Of The Army
The socialization process for the Army usually occurs when soldiers are sent off to basic training for weeks to be broken down as human beings
and then rebuilt the way the Army wants them. In the same way as sociologists view socialization, the purpose of Basic or a Cadet Leader's Course
is for the members to develop a sense of their self as a soldier and learn the ways of the society in which they will be serving. The socialization
process is different for cadets who are in college. They are not sent off to basic but instead have training during school all year and then summer
training that is similar to basic. First cadets are sent to a Cadet Leader's Course and then the next year they are sent to Officer Candidate School
(OCS). However, cadets begin training the first week of school, so the socialization process is already started long before the summer of next year.
Soldiers are socialized into the group by first learning how to wear uniforms. The first day I wore a headband that was against Army uniform
standards and was told by my captain to lose the headband. Cadets were then assigned identity groups or companies known as Alpha and Bravo. My
group was Alpha and then we were given a subgroup within that group known as Two Alpha. During every PT we stood in lines of four based on
rank from front to back with squad team leaders always on the far right. Then as a group, cadets would perform PT together and we always finished

The Stage Of Anticipatory Socialization Process
The chapter that I wrote is socialization process. After my research and study, I have more understanding the meaning of socialization process.
Socialization is the lifelong procedure of communication through which people gain a self–personality and the physical, mental, and social aptitudes
required for survival in the public arena (Hilyer, 2015). It is the procedure of adaptation. Moreover, socialization likewise is the way toward learning
and internalizing the values, convictions, and norms of our social group and by which we get to be working individuals from society. The
socialization process starts in outset and is particular profitable once a youngster starts to comprehend and utilize language (Greene, 2015). In view of

socialization is intentional changing of standards, convictions and values. It's likewise a procedure of planning ahead of time for new standards,
values and dispositions (Miles, 2015). This kind of socialization alludes to the procedure wherein a man practices or hones for future social
connections. For instance, a child envisions parenthood as he observes his parents perform their day by day parts. Besides, individuals once in a while
use anticipatory socialization as an apparatus to assess regardless of whether they will be suited to another social circumstance. For instance, a couple

However, this is merely how is should be, but is not how it is for Eric. Lack of iniative is not the problem. Without a parental figure present, Eric

My life started with my long and hard birth on July 14, 1993. I came into the world with a large scream and was immediately placed into some sort

The Socialization Process Of Children
Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even
apply these color–coded gender labels while a baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education, peer
groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces gender roles by creating and maintaining the norm expectations for gender–specific behavior. At an
early age, children have an understanding that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children are very
much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the age two or three; at four or five, most children are
appropriately displaying their specific gender role (Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote aggression
and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress–up apparel that foster nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will
continue on throughout their life. Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through. Always facing
scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them.

But lets move on from that stage into the second one. Let's say you decide to enter the job and proceed with the socialization process. The second stage
is called the encounter stage, or the breaking in period. This is in most cases the most difficult stage to go through. This is the stage where you start
to understand the attitude, behavior, and communication type in your work environment. In early Socialization it's very tough to know what to
expect. Go back to remembering that first day on the new job. You don't know how the people act, or how they communicate with each other. There
are many factors to take into consideration. The only way to learn is time. You not only have to learn how they communicate in business issues but
personal issues as well. Face it, the work place is a social agent. Work is not always the number one thing on everyone's mind. Social personal
communication behaviors are a very important part of the process of organizational communication. The major thing in the process is that a basic
interest line is already set in the simple fact that you are co–workers, so you must communicate, and therefore will have a common issues to

same party identification as their parents did, or they have no party identification at all. This is relevant because the children have not yet acquired
enough knowledge about politics, or their adolescent party identification aligns with their parent's party identification. Achen also revealed that as the
children grow older and move away from the influence of their family, the children discover new information and are adept to make their own political
decisions. In conclusion, Achen found that young voters were more likely to be partisan and independent, and partisanship was strongly correlated
between children and their parents. In regards to Achen's research, I find his reasoning logical and consistent. Overall, I elevate Achen's research as
plausible and consistent. By comparing the political knowledge of

Describe and Assess the Evidence That Socialisation Plays...
Socialisation refers to the process of learning one's culture and how to live within it. The process of socialisation involves the transmission of culture
from one generation to the next. It is during socialisation that individuals learn the values and norms that play such an important part in shaping human
behaviour. Socialisation provides the skills and habits necessary for acting and participating within one's society. Charles Cooley divided socialisation
into two stages – primary and secondary socialisation. Primary socialisation is the early years of our socialisation. It occurs when a child learns the
attitudes, values and actions appropriate to individuals as members of a particular culture. The most important agency of primary... Show more content

Anna was born to an unmarried woman, a fact that enraged the woman's father. At first forbidden to bring the child into the house, Anna's mother
attempted to place her in a children's home. When this plan proved too expensive, Anna was moved to a series of foster homes. Finally, at the age
of six months, the child was returned to her mother. Because of the grandfather's hostility, Anna was confined to an attic room where she was
given only a minimum of care. She was undernourished and emaciated and received almost no human contact. She was not spoken to, held,
bathed, or loved. Anna was finally discovered by a social worker in 1938. At six years of age, Anna was little more than a skeleton. She could not
walk, talk, or feed herself. Her face was expressionless, and she showed no interest in other people. Over time, though, Anna made some progress.
She learned to walk, feed herself, and brush her teeth. She could also talk in phrases and follow simple directions. However, Anna died at the age of
10, probably as a result of her earlier isolation. The story of Isabelle has a somewhat happier ending. Isabelle, whose mother was also unmarried, was
found at about the same time as Anna. The child's grandfather kept her and her deaf mother confined to a dark room. Although deprived of a normal
cultural environment, Isabelle have the advantage of her mother's company. But

Narcissism And Leadership: A Case Study
Running head: REPLY 2 Adam, the examination of narcissism and leadership was a unique approach. After reading your post, I began to consider the
implications of narcissism on organizational culture. Organizations faced with creating a productive, fair and inclusive work environment governed by
a narcissistic leader, might prove difficult. Narcissistic individuals have inflated views of themselves; have fantasies of being in control of everything,
and like to attract the admiration of others (Kinicki & Fugate, 2016). Considering the nature of the organizational culture, leadership has to maximize its
efficiency and effectiveness (Fischer, 2107), and having someone who is unable to achieve this task because they are focused on ... Show more content

In this experience, new hires are paired with senior staff to expose them to the workings of the organization. This experience has proved invaluable to

chance to see the opportunities for advancement within the organization. Listening my peer–mentor tell me how members of his training class are now
supervisors and administrators was exciting and encouraging. One of the most important issues that organizational leaders are facing today is the
need for talented and creative people who can help their respective organizations survive and flourish (Pryor, Singleton, Taneja, and Toombs, 2010, p.

Gender, Employment, And Career Advancement
In the US, there have been considerable efforts to bring gender equity in the domains of education, employment and career advancement. However,
several occupations are still highly gender segregated (ACLU, 2013). It has been found that the choices of such occupations could be shaped during
early childhood through gendered socialization. Playing with dolls is an important factor in the gender socialization process. Dolls boost the cultural
ideals that are linked to the place of girls in the society. Barbie dolls tend to send negative images to young girls since they illuminate a fancy sexual
figure that seems unattainable (Grade, Ward & Hyde, 2008). There is limited data on the negative effects this doll has on the gender socialization of
girls. This experiment seeks to assess whether experimentally controlling girls' interaction with Barbie dolls when compared to a neutral doll influences
their developmental ideas about who they want to be in the future.
Gender is a socially constructed concept and it denotes the behavior and characteristics associated with either men or women (Sherman &
Zurbriggen, 2014). Different studies have shown that the comprehension and acceptance of gender roles commence at a very early age (Sherman &
Zurbriggen, 2014). Playing with dolls or toys has been found to influence gender roles in kids. Play with Barbie dolls is a significant source of
gendered socialization because it conveys a sexualized adult to young girls. However, research focusing on

We Can Use Mass Media And Social Media
My classmates and friends helped shape my political opinions by being a source of information for me. Hearing news from my peers and then
hearing their opinions on this news kind of persuaded my beliefs because I would feel that I need to fit in and to do so I would have to conform to
the beliefs of others. In the early years of my life I did not have much of an opinion and I didn't believe that my beliefs mattered. I remember hearing
a lot about how my vote doesn't matter, and how I am just a single fish in an entire sea. This meant to me that my voice would not be heard. Now I
know that this isn't true, and if any American wants to be heard, there are numerous methods of speaking. We can usemass media, social media, we can
write to our legislators, and we can even express our first amendment rights.
The process of political socialization occurs from as young as we can remember and continues through to adulthood. All throughout my youth I would
listen, while others would talk about how something was not going their way, and therefore, blame the government for this. Even in school, teachers
would refer to how a certain political figure, or legislative action would condemn them to lesser pay than they deserve. To balance these actions
teachers, form unions and can express their first amendment right and peacefully assemble to protest their wages. I've seen it over the entire course of
my education. There are many instances where I witnessed individuals assemble for or

During the first part of the excerpt, the interviewer asks George what his life was like growing up. George begins by explaining he had a normal
family life and learned how to cook from imitated his mother when he was young. He then continues about the influence of his dad with cooking by
adding, "And, my dad, it's kind of funny, I think he thought it wasn't good for a little boy to be making cookies in the kitchen, so because he knew I
liked to cook, he would take me outside with him and teach me how to grill, you know, "like a man".'" The role of George's dad demonstrates a type of
gender–role socialization. Gender–role socialization involves the concept of learning behaviors and attitudes that fall in the category of the
individual's sex. George then goes on to tell the interviewer why he didn't agree with his high school's involvement in social channeling. The
concept of social channeling is the process of socialization where children are prepared and lead to certain positions based on their social class. An
example where George expresses this is when he states, "'They would put students into groups. You were either in "A" group, "B" group, or "C"
group, and what group you were in determined what classes you could take.'" George then expands on this concept by adding an example of the
concept of tracking. The concept of tracking is how placing someone in a certain track can either benefit or hurt the individual later in life. George

Antisocial Media And Social Media
Antisocial Media
In our modern age, people live a fast–paced life. Almost everything, it seems, is done by way of the Internet. Many wonder what the effects this kind
of lifestyle has on society. There is a debate whether the internet has alienated us from families, society, and reality. Supporters of this debate suggest
that those 'addicted' to the internet use it in place of reading, face–to–face conversations, socializing, and in place of deeper thinking and brain
analyzation processes. The other group suggests that the information obtained on the internet gives on the ability to process more information at a
more rapid pace than book research. It can be argued that the internet is overriding our ability to socialize with others, to read a good book to
recognize tone, and our ability to be captivated by the words and feel the emotions those words offer, but the internet, used properly, has its place in
our daily lives.
To be able to utilize information on the internet involves a great deal of rapid processing of information that one must consider to be true or false,
relevant or not, and if that information presented that way is enough to make a decision on or if more information in needed. The Cyberspace
Generation has acquired the ability to become quicker thinkers, and better processors of information thanks to the Internet. Although, it can be argued
that this generation has become

The Human Resource Development Policy Of Kenya
Definition of induction
According to the Human Resource Development policy of Kenya (2015), induction is defined as a process of receiving and orientating/ familiarizing a
new employee to an organization's work procedures and environment (HRD, 2015). In teaching industry, Ajowi et al., (2011) defined induction as a
fundamental process of settling newly appointed teachers into a new work environment. It is intended to effectively introduce newly appointed
teachers to the work procedures, rules and regulations, as well as assist them to adapt quickly to teaching.
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK defines induction as, "the process where employees adjust or acclimatize to their jobs
and working environment. As part of this, 'orientation' is used for a specific course or training event that new starters attend, and 'socialization' can
describe the way in which new employees build up working relationships and find roles for themselves within their new teams. Some people use the
term 'onboarding' to cover the whole process from an individual's contact with the organization before they formally join, through to understanding the
business' ways of working and getting up to speed in their new job." (Chris, 2015). According to the CIDP, every organization, large or small, should
have a well–considered induction programme. It should provide all the information that new employees' need, without overwhelming or diverting them
from the essential process of

Socialisation: The Process Of Socialization
Socialisation is the process by which people learn characteristics of their group norms, values, attitudes and especially behaviours. Socialisation
occurs throughout our life, but most importantly it occurs in childhood. Four big impacts of socialisation during our lives are family, school,
peers, and media. "As children are socialised, they learn which behaviours are acceptable and which are unacceptable. Boys are often encouraged
to imitate their fathers' activities, as this boy is doing" (David Frazier. Photo Researches) Process of socialisation: The social order is maintained
largely by socialisation. Except if the individuals behave accorded with the norms of the groups it is going to crumble. Process of socialisation
begins to work long before the child is born. Socialisation is important in the process of personality. Early stage of a child's life is the period of the
most powerful and most crucial socialisation. Children will have experiences that teach us lessons and from these lessons we will learn from our
mistakes and lead us to change our expectations, beliefs and personality. We see that there is all different cultures use all different techniques to

Socialization Process In Society
The socialization process can be described as the process one undergoes to learn the "acceptable" way to behave in society. From a young age,
people are taught how to behave, what to think, and how to look. These variables create rules or norms in society today. Examples of a social norm
would be gender rules today. Zimbardo used the example of a man being interested in ballet being seen as unusual and being criticized because of
his interests (Zimbardo 144). This is a perfect example of socialization because in society we are groomed to believe that ballet is girly or
feminine. While there is nothing about dance itself that is feminine, humanity has created an association with ballet and females. This association is
a behavior that is learned during the socialization process. Another example of the socialization process common in today's society would be the
gender rule that women are to be submissive in the relationship. Traditionally women stay home, take care of the kids, and cook meals. While none
of these acts in them self are submissive an association with these acts and submission from a wife to a husband has formed. This was a perfect
example of the socialization process for young girls growing up with the goal to have a family, a husband, and kids, only to perform wifely duties as
the "perfect" life. This socialization though has now been broken with more women going into the workforce and some becoming the "breadwinner" of
the family. Fathers staying home

The Process And Importance Of Socialization

June 2, 2017 The Process and Importance of Socialization in Children:
Socialization is the process through which an individual learns to become a functional member of society. Through socialization, one learns their
cultures language, their role in life, what is expected from them, and what is considered acceptable behavior. Social interaction provides crucial sensory
stimulation, which then leads to the creation of short and long–term memories. These memories are important because they reinforce behaviors or
actions in new social situations. Another important part of the process of socialization is cognitive development, also referred to as modeling (Bandura,

It continues from birth until death. We are continuously being molded into a social creature, and learning the social ways of acting and feeling.
Without the process of molding, society could not continue, nor would culture exist, nor could an individual become a person. Every person constantly
has to adjust themselves' to be accepted by the society of which they are a member of. If they fail to do so, they're labeled a social deviant and will be
put back in line by the efforts of society. Socialization is constantly reinforced all throughout our lifetime, not solely through just our parents and
teachers, but also through authority figures, messages from institutions, media, and our culture. Socialization has a significant impact on the way that
children perceive themselves when they are younger and usually continues to affect them as they grow into adulthood. Thus, sometimes resulting in
this defiant, uncontrollable behavior. Children are born into this world without any knowledge of the social culture. They must go through a long
sociological developmental process in which parents and other influences, attempt to transform them into socially competent individuals. So, what
would a human be like if raised in isolation? There is plenty of evidence that suggests if humans were raised in extreme isolation, that they would lack
many of the features that we generally identify as "human." Without socialization, children cannot and will

Double Standard Of Masculinity In Gender Role...
Masculinity is a topic that has been debated in our society extensively, through research as well as in informal settings. Many wonder what it means to
be masculine, and if we can really assign a definition to such a subjective term. After all, shouldn't one's own perception be the determinant of what
constitutes masculinity? This self–construction would be the ideal in our society, but unfortunately, it represents a false belief. Masculinity has certain
characteristics assigned to it by our culture.
In this paper I will explore the many facets of masculinity and demonstrate how certain beliefs pertaining to it are perpetuated in our society. I will also

The violence boy's witness on television further legitimates this belief.
Katz explains that advertising imagery equates masculinity with violence. For boys this means aggression is instrumental in that it enables them to
establish their masculinity (Katz 1995). Lee Bowker researched the influence advertisements have on youth. He asserts that toy advertisements
featuring only boys depict aggressive behavior. Strangely, the aggressive behavior generally results in positive consequences more often than negative.
Bowker also looked at commercials with boys that contain references to domination.
The results of all the commercials indicate that 68.6% of the commercials positioned toward boys contain incidents of verbal and physical aggression.
There was no crossgender display of aggressive behavior. Interestingly, not one single–sex commercial featuring girls shows any act of
aggression (Bowker 1998). This research helps explain that it is not just the reinforcement of close caretakers to the child that legitimate
masculinity but society as a whole (using the television as a symbol of society and it's desires).Another example of how this can be reinforced even
by women who may or may not be trying to promulgate such a belief is with an experience I had growing up:When I would get a cut or a bruise, I
would muster up all the strength I had to not cry. I feared that if I

Summary Of Saints By Nancy Scheper-Hughes
The typical Irish personality as seen through the ethnography of Nancy Scheper–Hughes is similar among the Irish population. The reason we see
these similar traits among the Irish population is because of the hardships that the people go through as they are raised from children to adults. Ireland
is known for their high rates of diagnosed mental illness. Through the author's fieldwork we are able to learn about the personality traits found among
the Irish. Nancy Scheper–Hughes states that, "the Republic of Ireland has the highest hospitalization treatment rate for mental illness in the world"
(Scheper–Hughes 60). The book titled, Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics Mental Illness in Rural Ireland, talks about the mental illness Schizophrenia
and mentions reasons why the Irish population has been diagnosed with so many cases. Scheper–Hughes observes, "Schizophrenia is the core problem
– more than half of the patients are so diagnosed" (Scheper–Hughes 60). The reason behind these diagnosed mental illnesses has a lot to do with the
way the Irish are raised. Most of the Irish population is raised in a similar way, which does not allow them to make decisions for themselves. There are
certain social and cultural values that Irish parents place upon their children, which may be the reason why there are so many cases of mental illness
seen throughout Ireland. One reason that may affect these children is the pressure put on them by parents. In Irish culture at least one

Phases Of Daniel Feldmen's Three-Phase Model Of...
The process of looking and getting hired for a new job can be overwhelming. This doesn't just include individuals who are new to applying to jobs, but
employees who are looking to get promoted within their company. They are both similar situations in which you need to do research on the job prior to
applying, go through an orientation process, and become integrated into that role after gaining a clear understanding of your responsibilities. It can be
challenging, but thankfully, companies have implemented programs of organizational socialization to provide support to new employees while they
adapt to their new environment. To fully understand the impact organizational socialization has on new employees and how organizations can better
apply this with new employees, I will discuss each phase of Daniel Feldmen's three–phase model of organizational socialization.
The three–phase model of organizational socialization created by Daniel Feldmen was created to help organizations and new employees understand
how without proper socialization employees will likely not stay and develop their careers within that organization. The book defines organizational
socialization as "the process by which individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior required to assume a work role" and that
"unstructured socialization is associated with decreased learning, performance, and satisfaction" (Kinicki and Fugate, 2017, p. 571).
The first phase of this model is anticipatory

The Role the Education System Has as an Agent of...
The education system has impacted children in many ways and has helped to shape the future leaders of society. In this essay my focus will be from
the Conflict/ Marxist perspective, which proposes that the education system is structured in such a way that some persons will benefit from it more
than others and that it is intended to cause social reproduction of inequality. Sociologists and economists Herbert Gintis and Samuel Bowles argue (as
cited in Haralambos and Holborn, 2004 p. 698) that "there is a "close correspondence" between the social relationships which govern personal
interaction in the work place and the social relationships of the education system." The education system in today's society is considered one of the most

According to Ballantine and Hammack. (2009) "critics argue that schools are 'reproducing' social classes and maintaining the social hierarchy with
education policies and practices that select students for higher track. Yet some policies such as testing give the 'appearance' of equality." This
argument can be used to relate to the situation of the education system present in the Antiguan society, where it is training and placing persons in
society. The Common Entrance Exam (CEE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) are forms of testing for both primary and
secondary students to display their intelligence and have the opportunity to lay the ground work to become a "successful" individual later on in
life. It is said to be a fair form of testing where no matter your social class in society you have "equal opportunity" to, in the case of the Common
Entrance Exam, get the "best' form of secondary education, and with the CSEC, gain a tertiary level education. However, this concept of "equal
opportunity" through the policy of testing in this instance is somewhat flawed, since persons who are in the Upper class who have the means and the
capital through which to access the best form of education often do. These persons are often able to acquire the necessary help for their children to do
well in the Common Entrance Exams and therefore get the best form of education, or they decide to pay

Criminology: Socialization And Social Process Theory
Criminology Assignment 3
Socialization is defined as the process through which people learn social norms, values, behavior, and skills through their interaction with significant
others such as teachers, family, and friends. Furthermore, the social process theory connects socialization and crime by stating that criminality is a
function of people's interactions with various organizations, institutions, and processes in society. Socialization is key to understanding criminal
behaviors. So, according to the social process theory, if someone is socialized with dysfunction and destructive relationships, tradition success may be
unachievable and the person may see crime as their only alternative. In addition, anyone can develop antisocial behavior

organizations, the Rebel Groups are faced with the difficult task of recruiting individuals. With limited available resources, the Rebel Groups cannot

After the complete destruction of a child's milieu, biography and history, he begins to "doubt [his] ability to influence [his] environment [or]

thoughts of a bleak and hopeless future, the boys find silver lining in the Rebel Leaders who present them with a new ambition. They brainwash
the boys to believe that becoming a soldier is a way of fighting for something they believe in, and in turn, provide the boys with hope for the future.
They motivate the boys by promoting the strongest and bravest as for a goal for the weaker to achieve. The introduction of new rights and
responsibilities for the boys, shapes an artificial civilization for the children to grow up in. The norms communicated by the army to each boy, create
a strong basis for the development of a new personal biography (Oetting 1999). It is evident in children who have been rescued from these conditions,
that they have been more affected by the loss of their family than of their exposure to violence (Kline 2003). Oetting (1999) further illustrates that the
separation of a child from his/her family promotes aggression and allows the child to disconnect from future ties with peers, school, and society. This

While they were talking about coming to the U.S., I saw the way they were all dressed by only covering their groin area and having the rest of their
body exposed especially their buttocks. Even the women only had their groin area cover not even the breast area was cover. While they were getting
ready to come to America, they realized that they would have to wear clothes to cover their whole body and they were not use to that and the other
natives were laughing. This is part of a Folkway because it shows the way their culture is and how they live day to day. 2. This is an example of
Non–material Culture because in all the segments, you can see that when the Natives talk about how they have chickens and a few pigs that they own
and that they feed off of the plants or stuff that they grow in the garden. Their custom idea that they have in their culture is to have joy and peace and
love. 3. This is a example of Cultural Diffusion because when the Natives arrive to the ranch in Montana that they will be staying at for a while in
segment 2 and 3, they see how the couple in Montana has different cultural elements than they do because the women just don't do all the cooking, the

Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process

  • 1. Gender Stereotypes And The Socialization Process Gender Stereotypes and the Socialization Process The pursuit of gender equality is a central element of a vision of sustainability in which every Member of Society respects others and plays a role that allows you to take advantage of their potential to the fullest. The broad goal of gender equality is a social goal that education and other social institutions should contribute. Gender discrimination is embed in the fabric of societies. In many societies, women bear the main burden of food production and child rearing. Also, women are often excluded from the family or Community decisions that affect their lives and well–being. The Parents stereotyped by the gender Classified by gender expectations can occur regarding personality traits (for example, children are aggressive), skills (for example, girls are good for reading), activities, and roles (for example, men are scientists). While gender equality has increased in many cultures over the past decades, there has been a parallel growth in adults regarding the adoption of attitudes that reflect gender equality. Now there is more variation among parents; some have traditional expectations and others expressing expectations equal to their daughters and sons. Similarly, some parents can support egalitarian views on certain fields (e.g. occupations) but are still more traditional concerning other areas (for example, family roles). Finally, parents (especially men) tend to be more rigid in their expectations for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. Effects Of Socialization Socialization is defined as the "process by which individuals acquire thoughts, feelings, and behaviors "appropriate" to their positions in society," (Rohall 149). Individuals experience socialization beginning the day they are born, and throughout most of their lives. It can occur through everyday observation and interaction at every stage of development, or it can occur more formally though education and mentors. Socialization is important to how individuals interact in society and it also plays a part in most aspects of social psychology. An important aspect of socialization is our agents of socialization. Agents of socialization are the groups in the individuals' lives that are most influential in teaching the thoughts, feelings, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a study titled "Racial Socialization and Racial Identity: African American Parents' Messages about Race as Precursors to Identity," Enrique Neblett looked at the patterns of racial socialization in a sample of 358 African American adolescents and identified 3 patterns of socialization experiences, High Positive, Moderate Positive, and Low Frequency (Neblett 189). The study found that a large portion of children reported that their parents highly emphasized on racial pride as well as taught them about racial barriers. The remaining children provided information that not all parents convey messages about race to their children. This shows that some individuals agents of socialization play a large role in their understanding of their race. In the study, they also state that African Americans awareness of race makes it possible for them to grapple with the significance of being African American (Neblett 189). The children that were categorized as having High Positive or Moderate Positive experiences with socialization are going to be more apt to understand their socialized position in society. This is important because "a strong ethnic identity is associated with greater psychological well–being," (Rohall 153). Therefore, children, especially children from minority groups, who are socialized to have a strong identity and can understand the significance of being a specific race, are more ... • 3. Essay on Our Socialization Process is Assumed through the... Our Socialization Process is Assumed through the Media In America, women are known as the breadwinners of the family. They go off to work in the morning while their husbands spend the day cleaning and cooking, some may even have a part–time job. Employed or not, the husband always makes sure their woman is fed after a hard days work. Do these statements sound ridiculous to you as an American? Are they even feasible? Not in this country, here things are the complete opposite. How do we know that? Because we have been socialized since day one of our existence to believe in gender separation, as well as all other aspects of American society. So who does this to us? Family, friends, schools, and churches are a few. However, in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Viewers experience the reaction of a person who is rewarded, associate the reward with the product being advertised and then acquire positive feelings about the product. (Percy & Woodside,1983) An example of this when referring to children has been in hot controversy over the past few years. Cigarette companies are constantly trying to defend the fact that they try to lure young kids into the world of smoking through ads. These ads show attractive settings, maybe a beach with clear blue water and carefree and happy people, maybe a couple, of course with a cigarette. Kids who see this, observe a carefree, cool lifestyle want these benefits for themselves and begin smoking. This illustrates how easily children can be convinced. We always thought cartoons were harmless, animated figures are purely entertainment. However, kids begin with cartoons that easily socialize and next thing you know, "Americas young minds are spending two to four hours a day viewing… (t.v.)." (Spicher & Hudak,1997) Studies show that children recall more information if it's presented verbally and visually– such as a t.v. screen.(Walma van der Molen & Van der Voort,1997) In a society where we use the boob tube as both entertainment and baby–sitter, an average 20 hours a week could be fatal. In these harmless cartoons, studies show that male characters outnumber female characters by about 4:1 and that only a small number of females are shown in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gender Socialization Is The Process Of Learning The Social Gender socialization is the process of learning the social prospects and behaviors connected with one 's sex. According to gender socialization there are so many reasons why males and females act in different ways: they learn different social roles. For example, girls learn to do different household chores such as: how to cook, how to clean, how to do sweep, how to take care of family etc and boys learn to work outside, how to earn money, how to rule the world etc. The effect of family, school, media, society, interaction between two people are the reasons ofgender socialization. For example, when a baby comes into the world he or she has to face either "Blue" or "Pink" reality. All around the world we can see that, babies are differentiated by the color, pink stuffs for a girl and blue for a boy. When they grow up, they start act like a male or female because they receive the message from society about their identity and act accordingly. That is how society constructs gender. • 5. Walmart Change Implementation Analysis : Walmart Walmart Change Implementation Analysis Summary Walmart was started on a large visionary change. Sam Walton, the founder, started Walmart when no other stores existed like the Walmart we know and appreciate today as consumers. The company was founded on a change. Walmart was created to change how retail worked and no other retail store had yet offered lower prices with great service like walmart was created to aim towards. As Walmart is approached with a merger of BIGGER Company, Inc., there is a specific process that needs to be followed to make for a successful culture change in the organization. Before any specific approaches are used to create the merge, it needs to be established that the leaders of the company play a very vital role in the change. Next, the start of the change needs to start with one of the three layers of organizational culture. The company needs to focus on the organizational culture layer that plays an important role with Walmart as an already established company because it is very important to consider how the current culture is is aligned with the set in place vision the company has (Kreitner 73). This structured change approach is inevitable to have a more simple change for a merger and an easier change to the company 's existing culture. After the culture and any issues that exist are acknowledged, it is time for the company to move on with the merging process. The merging companies need to exchange the beliefs and norms that are preferred by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which social theory emerged? ??????????? II.LITERATURE REVIEW Prior to this study, the authors discuss previous research findings that led to them to perform the study. One of said previous research findings, "Gender and the meanings of adolescent romantic relationships: A focus on boys." (Giordano, Longmore and Manning, 2006), is that traditional sexual scripts label girls as less sexual than boys, and in more need of protection and sexual guidance in learning about sex. Therefore, inadvertently labeling boys as being the exact opposite. They study how, within their own friends, boys emphasize competition and make fun of those who express feeling and other positive emotions for girls. Most boys connect feeling dominant with excitement. They are expected to not show feelings, and girls are expected to be very emotional. In another previous study "Too Much Too Soon? Children, "Sexualization" (Bragg, Buckingham, Russell & Willet), they research young people 's sexual cultures, more specifically, sexualized good. They conduct a study of how the products that retailers sell, prematurely sexualize children. They came to the conclusion that the sexualization of children is very common. Unfortunately, it is an old tradition to have children and young people be represented as objects for erotic contemplation by adults. They concluded that it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Gender Socialization And Gender Roles In the last several years, numerous feminist movements have brought a great deal of attention to the gender equality issues many societies face. Is this increased awareness helping towards a neutral gendered socialization process which will inevitably eliminate the inequality? Gender socialization is the process where an individual is impacted by agents of socialization through their life stages which consequently creates the gender roles we see in today's society. The only way to start working towards a gender equal world is by making changes towards the gender socialization process. Gender socialization allows for the creation of gender roles and it is evident that most of the creation takes place during childhood. Gender roles are the expected normative behaviors associated to one's biological sex (Carl & BГ©langer. 2015). The majority of young children are raised in gendered environments as appose to the less common neutral gendered ones. As a result, they are exposed to gender stereotypes which will, more often than not, stay with them throughout their entire lives. The importance of a gender neutral upbringing is crucial to eliminating the inequality we face today and that is the message Gender Baby Food is trying to spread to new parents. • 8. Socialization Reflection "Our views and behavior depend to some degree on our social location in society–our gender, race, social class, religion, and so forth."(Barkan, 2013). As I have grown up and my perspective of the world has broadened I have realized how narrow my views were. I grew up in Germany, Italy, and Hungary before moving to the USA, but because I was so sheltered I really didn't know what was really happening in society. As I grew older I have come to realize the socialization process did help me develop my values, beliefs, morals, my religious outlook, my political affiliations and what not. A1 Socialization Paper As a baby we aren't born with culture. The people who are responsible for our socialization are our parents and others who we might associate with...teachers, friends, etc. As a very small child we learn about the culture we were born in as well as our gender roles. Depending on some cultures women for example are taught that they will be homemakers and do a large share of work. In my culture I learned my future role which would be a daughter, friend, sister, a wife in the future possibly, and then maybe a mother. This is also thetime we learn what society expects of us; the norms per say. This is also the time in our lives that our personality forms. While our personality has much to do with our upbringing and genes it also is created by the culture we are in. • 11. Nature Vs. Nurture Argumentative Analysis Nature versus Nurture debate Nature versus nurture is controversial debate that has been ongoing for several years about whether behaviors are caused by inherited traits or are they influenced by the environment. When Genie the wild child was found, she represented a tabula rasa "blank state" of learning due to the limited basic skills she had, and incapability to speak. Hence, psychologists examined the nature versus nurture argument through Genie. The early stages of growth are fundamentally crucial for children because they need human contact, affection, and interaction to fully develop a sense of self and be fully integrated into society. The absence of proper socialization during those critical periods caused Genie to develop differently than the rest. Genie was a victim of severe abuse and neglect by her father, Clark Wiley, she was discovered at the age of 13 in her family's home, she was strapped down to her potty chair and isolated in a dark bedroom for the first years of her life (McMahan, 2014). • 12. Facebook Is A Negative Influence On Our Youth Facebook is a negative influence on our youth because it takes away privacy, creates exposure to circumstances or thought's above their age, and has an influence of negative socializing practices. Our youth's minds are easily influenced and what they perceive becomes the norm for them throughout their life, making it difficult to change that mindset later in life. Facebook is a non–privacy site that allows anyone to be able to see a page and in many cases private aspects of life posted to Facebook. Facebook has many ideas or thoughts that are not age appropriate posted all over different pages that are easily accessible. Facebook also changes the socialization practices from meeting and spending time together to a more unsociable version of sending instant messages. Facebook is an open book to someone's life depicting personal information, such as addresses, ages, interests, family relations, and full names along with pictures. To a child this breach of personal information is catastrophic due to child predators that use this information to seduce a child into false comfort. "Kids have always been exposed to risk, to embarrassing themselves, to making bad judgment calls, but never before have those mistakes been so public and so permanent" (Dominus 99–91). Most of the information posted to this site is available online indefinitely, which to a child is harmful due to the fact their maturity isn't high enough to understand what's acceptable and what's not, by the time this ... • 13. The Army : The Socialization Process Of The Army The socialization process for the Army usually occurs when soldiers are sent off to basic training for weeks to be broken down as human beings and then rebuilt the way the Army wants them. In the same way as sociologists view socialization, the purpose of Basic or a Cadet Leader's Course is for the members to develop a sense of their self as a soldier and learn the ways of the society in which they will be serving. The socialization process is different for cadets who are in college. They are not sent off to basic but instead have training during school all year and then summer training that is similar to basic. First cadets are sent to a Cadet Leader's Course and then the next year they are sent to Officer Candidate School (OCS). However, cadets begin training the first week of school, so the socialization process is already started long before the summer of next year. Soldiers are socialized into the group by first learning how to wear uniforms. The first day I wore a headband that was against Army uniform standards and was told by my captain to lose the headband. Cadets were then assigned identity groups or companies known as Alpha and Bravo. My group was Alpha and then we were given a subgroup within that group known as Two Alpha. During every PT we stood in lines of four based on rank from front to back with squad team leaders always on the far right. • 14. The Stage Of Anticipatory Socialization Process The chapter that I wrote is socialization process. After my research and study, I have more understanding the meaning of socialization process. Socialization is the lifelong procedure of communication through which people gain a self–personality and the physical, mental, and social aptitudes required for survival in the public arena (Hilyer, 2015). It is the procedure of adaptation. Moreover, socialization likewise is the way toward learning and internalizing the values, convictions, and norms of our social group and by which we get to be working individuals from society. The socialization process starts in outset and is particular profitable once a youngster starts to comprehend and utilize language (Greene, 2015). This kind of socialization alludes to the procedure wherein a man practices or hones for future social connections. I came into the world with a large scream and was immediately placed into some sort of category. The doctors and nurses took a quick look at me, and pronounced me as a girl. This social label of being a girl was now my gender, which is something I had no say in. Every since that very moment in time where my parents were told I was a girl, I have been treated according to my gender. She then explained to me that trucks were for boys not girls, and I should stick to using my pink shovel and bucket set to make nice sandcastles. I didn't understand at that point what the big issue was, it was just toys that were fun to play with, but I agreed with my grandmother because I didn't want to get into trouble and from then on stuck to focusing on making sandcastles. I quickly forgot about the trucks, and never again did I think to play with anything remotely like that. • 18. The Socialization Process Of Children Through the socialization process, children learn gender roles at birth. In our society today, we buy boy infants blue and girls infants pink. We even apply these color–coded gender labels while a baby is still in the womb. Gender socialization occurs through four categories: family, education, peer groups, and mass media. Each category reinforces gender roles by creating and maintaining the norm expectations for gender–specific behavior. At an early age, children have an understanding that there are distinct expectations for them based off of their gender. Studies show that children are very much conscious of what gender roles are and how their role is supposedly portrayed by the age two or three; at four or five, most children are appropriately displaying their specific gender role (Kane, 1996). Most boys are given toy car, guns and action figures, all toys that promote aggression and introverted playtime. Girls are often given dolls and dress–up apparel that foster nurturing, social closeness, and role play. These gender roles will continue on throughout their life. Thus creating a barrier for women and men, predominantly women to have to try to break through. Always facing scrutiny if they step outside of the gender specific spectrums society has set for them. Because children don't necessarily have past political experiences, they rely on past experiences of their parents, which are theoretically relevant to the children's future. Achen also discovered that young people have either the same party identification as their parents did, or they have no party identification at all. This is relevant because the children have not yet acquired enough knowledge about politics, or their adolescent party identification aligns with their parent's party identification. The process of socialisation involves the transmission of culture from one generation to the next. Socialisation provides the skills and habits necessary for acting and participating within one's society. Charles Cooley divided socialisation into two stages – primary and secondary socialisation. Finally, at the age of six months, the child was returned to her mother. Because of the grandfather's hostility, Anna was confined to an attic room where she was given only a minimum of care. Supporters of this debate suggest that those 'addicted' to the internet use it in place of reading, face–to–face conversations, socializing, and in place of deeper thinking and brain analyzation processes. The other group suggests that the information obtained on the internet gives on the ability to process more information at a more rapid pace than book research. The Human Resource Development Policy Of Kenya Definition of induction According to the Human Resource Development policy of Kenya (2015), induction is defined as a process of receiving and orientating/ familiarizing a new employee to an organization's work procedures and environment (HRD, 2015). In teaching industry, Ajowi et al., (2011) defined induction as a fundamental process of settling newly appointed teachers into a new work environment. It is intended to effectively introduce newly appointed teachers to the work procedures, rules and regulations, as well as assist them to adapt quickly to teaching. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in the UK defines induction as, "the process where employees adjust or acclimatize to their jobs and working environment. As part of this, 'orientation' is used for a specific course or training event that new starters attend, and 'socialization' can describe the way in which new employees build up working relationships and find roles for themselves within their new teams. Socialisation occurs throughout our life, but most importantly it occurs in childhood. Four big impacts of socialisation during our lives are family, school, peers, and media. "As children are socialised, they learn which behaviours are acceptable and which are unacceptable. Boys are often encouraged to imitate their fathers' activities, as this boy is doing" (David Frazier. • 30. Socialization Process In Society The socialization process can be described as the process one undergoes to learn the "acceptable" way to behave in society. From a young age, people are taught how to behave, what to think, and how to look. These variables create rules or norms in society today. Examples of a social norm would be gender rules today. Zimbardo used the example of a man being interested in ballet being seen as unusual and being criticized because of his interests (Zimbardo 144). This is a perfect example of socialization because in society we are groomed to believe that ballet is girly or feminine. While there is nothing about dance itself that is feminine, humanity has created an association with ballet and females. This association is a behavior that is learned during the socialization process. Another example of the socialization process common in today's society would be the gender rule that women are to be submissive in the relationship. Traditionally women stay home, take care of the kids, and cook meals. While none of these acts in them self are submissive an association with these acts and submission from a wife to a husband has formed. This was a perfect example of the socialization process for young girls growing up with the goal to have a family, a husband, and kids, only to perform wifely duties as the "perfect" life. This socialization though has now been broken with more women going into the workforce and some becoming the "breadwinner" of the family. Fathers staying home ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He asserts that toy advertisements featuring only boys depict aggressive behavior. Strangely, the aggressive behavior generally results in positive consequences more often than negative. Bowker also looked at commercials with boys that contain references to domination. The results of all the commercials indicate that 68.6% of the commercials positioned toward boys contain incidents of verbal and physical aggression. They are both similar situations in which you need to do research on the job prior to applying, go through an orientation process, and become integrated into that role after gaining a clear understanding of your responsibilities. It can be challenging, but thankfully, companies have implemented programs of organizational socialization to provide support to new employees while they adapt to their new environment. To fully understand the impact organizational socialization has on new employees and how organizations can better apply this with new employees, I will discuss each phase of Daniel Feldmen's three–phase model of organizational socialization. The three–phase model of organizational socialization created by Daniel Feldmen was created to help organizations and new employees understand how without proper socialization employees will likely not stay and develop their careers within that organization. The book defines organizational socialization as "the process by which individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavior required to assume a work role" and that "unstructured socialization is associated with decreased learning, performance, and satisfaction" (Kinicki and Fugate, 2017, p. 571). The first phase of this model is anticipatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Role the Education System Has as an Agent of... The education system has impacted children in many ways and has helped to shape the future leaders of society. In this essay my focus will be from the Conflict/ Marxist perspective, which proposes that the education system is structured in such a way that some persons will benefit from it more than others and that it is intended to cause social reproduction of inequality. Sociologists and economists Herbert Gintis and Samuel Bowles argue (as cited in Haralambos and Holborn, 2004 p. 698) that "there is a "close correspondence" between the social relationships which govern personal interaction in the work place and the social relationships of the education system." The education system in today's society is considered one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Ballantine and Hammack. (2009) "critics argue that schools are 'reproducing' social classes and maintaining the social hierarchy with education policies and practices that select students for higher track. Yet some policies such as testing give the 'appearance' of equality." This argument can be used to relate to the situation of the education system present in the Antiguan society, where it is training and placing persons in society. The Common Entrance Exam (CEE) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) are forms of testing for both primary and secondary students to display their intelligence and have the opportunity to lay the ground work to become a "successful" individual later on in life. It is said to be a fair form of testing where no matter your social class in society you have "equal opportunity" to, in the case of the Common Entrance Exam, get the "best' form of secondary education, and with the CSEC, gain a tertiary level education. However, this concept of "equal opportunity" through the policy of testing in this instance is somewhat flawed, since persons who are in the Upper class who have the means and the capital through which to access the best form of education often do. These persons are often able to acquire the necessary help for their children to do well in the Common Entrance Exams and therefore get the best form of education, or they decide to pay ... • 37. Criminology: Socialization And Social Process Theory Criminology Assignment 3 Socialization is defined as the process through which people learn social norms, values, behavior, and skills through their interaction with significant others such as teachers, family, and friends. Furthermore, the social process theory connects socialization and crime by stating that criminality is a function of people's interactions with various organizations, institutions, and processes in society. Socialization is key to understanding criminal behaviors. So, according to the social process theory, if someone is socialized with dysfunction and destructive relationships, tradition success may be unachievable and the person may see crime as their only alternative. In addition, anyone can develop antisocial behavior ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Role of Socialization of Children in War Essay For over 20 years, the Lord's Resistance Army has been at war with the government of Uganda, causing a civil war. The Army's Rebel Groups, have attacked small villages, resulting in thousands of innocent deaths, and the abduction of children to fight with the rebels. In order to maintain these organizations, the Rebel Groups are faced with the difficult task of recruiting individuals. With limited available resources, the Rebel Groups cannot offer any appealing incentives to their recruits, but require complete loyalty (Vermeij, 2009). A child's innocence, trust, and blind obedience make them desirable soldiers. For the Rebel Groups in South Africa, children are therefore strategically used as pawns in combat. Children under the age... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After the complete destruction of a child's milieu, biography and history, he begins to "doubt [his] ability to influence [his] environment [or] establish an identity" (Kline 2003). In search of a new gemeinschaft, the child looks towards Rebel Groups as a way to fill this void. Consumed by thoughts of a bleak and hopeless future, the boys find silver lining in the Rebel Leaders who present them with a new ambition. They brainwash the boys to believe that becoming a soldier is a way of fighting for something they believe in, and in turn, provide the boys with hope for the future. They motivate the boys by promoting the strongest and bravest as for a goal for the weaker to achieve. The introduction of new rights and responsibilities for the boys, shapes an artificial civilization for the children to grow up in. The norms communicated by the army to each boy, create a strong basis for the development of a new personal biography (Oetting 1999). It is evident in children who have been rescued from these conditions, that they have been more affected by the loss of their family than of their exposure to violence (Kline 2003). Oetting (1999) further illustrates that the separation of a child from his/her family promotes aggression and allows the child to disconnect from future ties with peers, school, and society. This ... The evolving exercise will gauge the candidate's ability to see a situation or trend that is deteriorating and develop and plan to turn the situation around. Depending on the candidate's responds the conditions will either improve or further deteriorate. In the interactive style assessment center the candidate must interact with designated role players and must exchange, ideas, concerns or thoughts. The role players follow a scripted dialogue and will respond to the candidate's actions or comments to obtain a measurable response. In another version of the interactive assessment ... In this step a series of interviews and meeting, conducted by a trusted member of the leadership team, will occur to obtain meaningful information and provide any necessary guidance the new leader will need. To accomplish the gathering of needed and meaningful information a key group of individuals are enlisted into the process and they include the new leaders, boss, or members of the Board of Director, peers, and direct reports. Interviews with the boss, or bosses, will identify "landmines" he must avoid, and what "not to do", if the new leader wishes to be successful (Burroughs, 2011). In a peer interview information is gathered from all peers the new leader will come into contact with. The need for a leader to influence others outside his immediate authority is paramount and if the new leader is aware of what he should avoid, or what areas the previous leader struggled with, probability of success will increase. The last section of interviews should involve all direct reports under the authority of the new leader. While many at this level of the organization are leery of any change in leadership and change is inherently disruptive to the work groups. Additionally, some workers may have unique and uncomfortable personal situation, known to the former leader which will need to be explained again to a new leader. Most importantly, ... • 40. Chapter Questions On Non Material Culture Catrina Parrott–Christopherson Jolene Sundlie Chapter 2 and 4 Homework Assignment September 22nd, 2014 Chapter 2: 1. This was an example of Folkways because in the first segment of the eight, the natives showed talked about how they do stuff in their island. While they were talking about coming to the U.S., I saw the way they were all dressed by only covering their groin area and having the rest of their body exposed especially their buttocks. Even the women only had their groin area cover not even the breast area was cover. While they were getting ready to come to America, they realized that they would have to wear clothes to cover their whole body and they were not use to that and the other natives were laughing. This is part of a Folkway because it shows the way their culture is and how they live day to day. 2. This is an example of Non–material Culture because in all the segments, you can see that when the Natives talk about how they have chickens and a few pigs that they own and that they feed off of the plants or stuff that they grow in the garden. Their custom idea that they have in their culture is to have joy and peace and love. 3. This is a example of Cultural Diffusion because when the Natives arrive to the ranch in Montana that they will be staying at for a while in segment 2 and 3, they see how the couple in Montana has different cultural elements than they do because the women just don't do all the cooking, the men also help out the grown women told ...
