  3. 3. ABOUT US… <ul><li>The library was established in 1983 and it is located in two floors of the Osuna building. Those facilities were designed as classrooms and were re-designed as library facilities. </li></ul><ul><li>The library is open 72 hours per week, Monday to Saturday. </li></ul><ul><li>The library staff are: Prof. Lourdes Cádiz, Head Librarian; Dr. Ketty Rodríguez, Information Literacy Instructor; Mrs. Migdalia Barreto, Mrs. Loyda Nieves, Mrs. Mariam Feliciano, Mr. Rafael Rivera and Mr. David González, Assistant Librarians and 17 Assistant Students. </li></ul>

ABOUT US… Faculty and Library committee <ul><li>In 2006 until 2008, we have a successful and dynamic Library Committee composed of professors of each department of the Faculty. </li></ul><ul><li>They identified the library conditions and needs with the AACSB accreditation standards and prepared two proposals to raise funds for the improvement of the physical facilities in the first floor. They obtained $300,000 from the Central Adm. of the UPR. </li></ul><ul><li>The Business Administration Faculty provides 990 square meters of space in the first floor for the construction of a library instruction classroom. </li></ul><ul><li>Those facilities are used for the development of information skills in our students. It has a seating capacity of 30 persons. </li></ul>

  7. 7. Technological facilities… <ul><li>Wireless Laptop Access </li></ul><ul><ul><li>w ireless access is available throughout the library. The students request authorization in the Information Systems Office in the campus. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Remote access to Library Databases </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The databases offered by Library System are restricted to current students, staff, and the faculty of the University. The access is throughout the web page, http// . When connecting to these services from home, the patrons first login to the library system proxy service and then access of the information products. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Electronic Reference room, Library catalog and Internet access </li></ul><ul><ul><li>17 computers are available on a computer room in the of 2nd floor for internet access, library catalog, databases and printing service. There also two computers in each floor for library instruction only. </li></ul></ul>

Technological facilities… <ul><li>Information Literacy Area </li></ul><ul><ul><li>“ Salón multiusos” is an instruction classroom and educational activities located on the 1st, floor of the library. It’s contains 31 laptops with one router, internet access, Microsoft programs, (Word, Excel, Power Points and others), and select programs like SPSS. Additionally, the area has a plasma TV of 42”, a DVD player, a video projector, an interactive board and a HP LaserJet printer. The students can use the physical facilities with theirs computers when the area still free of workshops. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Printing </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Two photocopies are located in each library floor and a printing system in the electronic reference room. The service requires a charge per document page and the purchase of a “vendacard”. The Library System Director hiring a company for the management of the service. </li></ul></ul>

Information literacy competencies… <ul><li>The mission of the Information Literacy Program at Business Library is to support the teaching and learning mission of the University of Puerto Rico by engaging students in the development and application of skills needed to find, evaluate and use information that will contribute to their success in academic endeavors and lifelong learning goals. </li></ul><ul><li>The IL Program vision is committed to integrated information instruction. It’s focused in the core curriculum courses, employs an approach to teaching the ACRL Information Literacy Standards, emphasizes active learning and incorporates the latest trends in available technology and educational approaches.  Assessment is used to inform and improve teaching and learning. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Information literacy competencies… <ul><li>Goals: </li></ul><ul><li>1. Development of students’ skills, knowledge, and attitudes with regard to finding, evaluating, and using information. </li></ul><ul><li>2. Increase awareness among administrator, faculty and students of information literacy, its benefits and its importance to academic success. </li></ul><ul><li>3. Ongoing assessment of information literacy needs of undergraduate & graduate students. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Comprehensive information literacy support across the curriculum using a coordinate and collaborative approach to instruction activities. </li></ul><ul><li>5. Continuous improvement of the information literacy program through ongoing assessment and refinement. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>The priorities goals are number 1, 3 & 4. </li></ul></ul>
