INDIA and SURINAME
For Presentation in International Conference on Digital Governance: Innovation Information
and Libraries During April 14-16, 2016 At Indian Institute of Management. Indore
AISSMS COE LIBRARY
The AISSMS College of Engineering Library has acquired a
good collection of books and journals in the area of various
engineering disciplines.
The Library has approximately 33000 volumes of books
and 91 national journals. And 612 Online Journals Books are
classified according to Dewey Decimal classification scheme.
Library is using SLIM 21 (System for Library Information and
Management) software. Web OPAC facility is also available in
Library. The library is spread over 928 sq.m. area, with an
total investment of about RS.2.00 core including all facilities

Conducting Conferences, Workshops, Book Talks, and Training
Programs for Students and Faculty of AISSMS, We are also
conducting “Author-Students Meet” events, where students can
have live interaction with author of the books.
• For other Library Professional we have organized conference and
workshop like
• Two days National Level Conference on “Impact of Web
technologies and E-resources on Library Services, held at AISSMS
COE Pune on 27-28 September 2013
• National Level Conference on “Application of Six Sigma in Library
Science Field” held at AISSMS COE, Pune on 30 September 2012
• One day workshop on “Drupal content management System ’’ on 5
October 2012 at Max Bhor Pune

INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACCESS WEEK AT AISSMS COE IN ASSOCIATION WITH INASP UK
One Day Workshop on “Getting to know more all about open access” was conducted in All
India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with INASP
UK on 19 October 2015. AISSMS COE Library participated in Open Access Week Competition
and won a grant of 500$ from INASP UK to organize various event on “Open Access” at
AISSMS COE.

One week International Workshop on “Modern Information Management for Research and
Education Oriented Libraries (With Open Source Tools)” was organized by Central Library of All
India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with Hasselt
University Belgium from 23 to 27 November 2015
Usage of tutorials in Information Literacy
• We are using tutorials which is done from Publishers
and share them in our induction program also
through our library page on social networking
• we are also sending some screen shots on effective
search of information through mails.
Problems faced by Librarians concerning
training in the use of information
• Students and faculty are not much interested to attend such programs
• Librarians themselves are not interested in such programs
• We don’t have much awareness in developing online tutorials and there is
no standard guidelines are provided for information literacy workshop
• Management role is also less supportive in such programs.
Proposed improvements
• Need to develop online or offline video tutorial by Library
• Need of more training programs and effort from Library for
maximum usage students should get adequate result from
database.
• Signal search window should made available for all AISSMS
COE library Resources

The AdeKUS Library uses
- its own tutorial based on the disciplines of the
students and the methodology of the OPAC
updated from time to time
- help options on it’s information portal and
OPAC for it’s patrons
- Other tutorials from other information sources
if available and is of use by the patrons
Information Literacy is integrated in the
Curriculum. All freshmen are bound to follow the
Information Literacy training in their first
academic year.

Information literacy in India and Suriname

  • 2. AISSMS COE LIBRARY The AISSMS College of Engineering Library has acquired a good collection of books and journals in the area of various engineering disciplines. The Library has approximately 33000 volumes of books and 91 national journals. And 612 Online Journals Books are classified according to Dewey Decimal classification scheme. Library is using SLIM 21 (System for Library Information and Management) software. Web OPAC facility is also available in Library. The library is spread over 928 sq.m. area, with an total investment of about RS.2.00 core including all facilities

I am regularly involved in various activities like Conducting Conferences, Workshops, Book Talks, and Training Programs for Students and Faculty of AISSMS, We are also conducting “Author-Students Meet” events, where students can have live interaction with author of the books. • For other Library Professional we have organized conference and workshop like • Two days National Level Conference on “Impact of Web technologies and E-resources on Library Services, held at AISSMS COE Pune on 27-28 September 2013 • National Level Conference on “Application of Six Sigma in Library Science Field” held at AISSMS COE, Pune on 30 September 2012 • One day workshop on “Drupal content management System ’’ on 5 October 2012 at Max Bhor Pune

INTERNATIONAL OPEN ACCESS WEEK AT AISSMS COE IN ASSOCIATION WITH INASP UK One Day Workshop on “Getting to know more all about open access” was conducted in All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with INASP UK on 19 October 2015. AISSMS COE Library participated in Open Access Week Competition and won a grant of 500$ from INASP UK to organize various event on “Open Access” at AISSMS COE.

One week International Workshop on “Modern Information Management for Research and Education Oriented Libraries (With Open Source Tools)” was organized by Central Library of All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society’s College of Engineering Pune, in association with Hasselt University Belgium from 23 to 27 November 2015
  • 16. Usage of tutorials in Information Literacy • We are using tutorials which is done from Publishers and share them in our induction program also through our library page on social networking • we are also sending some screen shots on effective search of information through mails.

Problems faced by Librarians concerning training in the use of information • Students and faculty are not much interested to attend such programs • Librarians themselves are not interested in such programs • We don’t have much awareness in developing online tutorials and there is no standard guidelines are provided for information literacy workshop • Management role is also less supportive in such programs.
  • 19. Proposed improvements • Need to develop online or offline video tutorial by Library • Need of more training programs and effort from Library for maximum usage students should get adequate result from database. • Signal search window should made available for all AISSMS COE library Resources

Information Literacy Training for patrons Individually; in the Library In groups through a power point presentation and live interactive demos Groups of 10 to 15 students, lecturers or researchers; in the cyber hall of the library groups between 16 and 30 students; in 1 of the cyber rooms of UCC (University Computer Center)

The AdeKUS Library uses - its own tutorial based on the disciplines of the students and the methodology of the OPAC updated from time to time - help options on it’s information portal and OPAC for it’s patrons - Other tutorials from other information sources if available and is of use by the patrons Information Literacy is integrated in the Curriculum. All freshmen are bound to follow the Information Literacy training in their first academic year.
