Make Way For Duckling Analysis
I took a 360 trying to see the entirety of Boston from my position in front of a massive statue of our nation's first president. The skyline of Boston's
financial district sat behind George Washington's statue in the Boston Public Garden. This park is the oldest botanical garden in the USA, and it
looked it, but not tarnished. Behind the park, the skyscrapers didn't reflect the light like yesterday because the sun hid behind the numerous gloomy
clouds. The buildings seemed taller and newer than the few hardly–cloud–touching buildings in downtown Spokane. On my left was historic Beacon
Hill, where my mom, sister, and I had devoured delicious Italian food the night before. My mom grabbed her phone and begged my sister and I to
stand closer to the statue for pictures. My mom took pictures until my face felt like it was cramping. Then my sister,... Show more content on

The flowers weren't quite in bloom yet because it was early April, but I could picture how beautiful the path would look lined with colorful
flowers. We walked until we saw a crowd of children and families by a small, bronze statue of ducklings following their mother. This sculpture was
inspired by Mrs. Mallard from the children's book, Make Way for Duckling by Robert McClosky. As a child, my mom read my siblings and I this
book countless times; it was one of our favorites. The little kids ran around them while their parents, a mix of locals and tourists sipped their coffee,
took videos, and chatted. After we took pictures of the ducklings, we continued along the path, and it led us to a blue iron and stone bridge over a lake.
This suspension bridge lay over the lake. The lake wasn't as dirty as the Manito Park pond, but it certainly wasn't blue. Lauren and I stood on the
bridge while my mother walked down the steps to the water–level pathway. She stood taking more pictures while I looked out to see children running
around near the

The Figure A Poem Makes By Robert Lee Frost
Robert Lee Frost is an American poet, often called 'the voice of America' as he represents the feelings of American people. His poetry celebrates the
countryside of New Hampshire. His poems deal with familiar native scenes. He uses simple words from the plain language of every–day life. In his
work, 'The Figure a Poem Makes' he defines "a poem begins in delight ends in wisdom''.
One of the significant features of Frost's poetry is its dramatic quality. Poems like 'Home Burial', 'The Death of the Hired man' and 'West Running
Brook' are witnesses to Frost's capacity in representing conversations in verse form. All these poems are based on the conversation between the husband
and the wife. During their conversation there are lot of controversies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He seems to be carefree and not to bother about what will happen to the child's tender body. The husband feels that he is a cursed man in this world
because he is hearing all this from no one else but his own wife. She opens the door wider and he demands where she means to go, so that he may
bring her back. Time is good remedy for everything. It heals the wounds created by persons and incidents. With this hope one day or other day he will
bring her back to home. Here the poem starts with the fear of the wife and ends with the will power of the husband. In the beginning of the poem, the
poet presents the feeling of the

Raymond Carter The Cathedral
The short story of Raymond Carter "The Cathedral" we see a young couple that is struggling with money and their relationship. The husband who was
going through officers' training school was not bringing in any profit yet, so his wife found a blind man named Robert that was needing some help.
The wife helped the blind man for a summer until her husband was named a commission officer and they moved out to Seattle. The blind man and the
wife still kept in touch, sending each other tapes to each other about how their life was going. She told the blind man everything that went on. She
explain to Robert how she did not like her husbands job and that she didn't think she could keep going forward anymore moving to different spots of
the United States. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The husband of course was not sure about this because he didn't even know the man. He didn't know why they contacted each other so much or
why he was coming. The wife and husband had been through hardships the past couple of years and it seemed like the blind man was what was
keeping his wife going. They were in the living room having conversations and to the husband it seemed like all of the talk was all about the blind
man. There was no talk about the husband and it seems like he just felt like he was left out. They had been in contact for so long and the husband
honestly just kind of held a grudge toward the blind man. Much of the talk the whole night was about the blind man and what he had done and
accomplished and it just set the husband on ease. Just the little things such as turning the T.V. on set his wife into a rage and the husband just didn't
know what to do. As the night went on they had supper and multiple drinks and were now just in the living room having conversations. The husband
and the blind man slowly started to conversate more and more about different things and the wife was getting tired. The two were watching T.V. and
just starting communicating a much better whenever the husband's wife had stepped out to change into a robe because she was getting tired. The
husband began coming more relaxed and was just feeling more comfortable. They joked and discussed what was going on T.V.. The wife had finally

The way you write your message, just think like 50's or 60's Romantic Movies. Write those in a bit old fashioned way with some modern twist.
You can start with something like : "Dear (the name)..." Then depend on what ocassion is you write your letter, you can set the voice tone or the way
you express your feeling to make it memorable and meaningful.
For example, I ever send a letter like this to a girl to celebrate the first month I knew her and get her BBM Pin through Facebook. I wrote those letter
like 17 year's old school boy talking...
Hey Girl,
I want to tell you a story. About a month ago, I send a message to a girl on Facebook and asking her BBM Pin. It took a longtime before she's answer.
And once she's answer, she's answer my question with question : Who is this?
It's dreadful right?
Well, she doesn't realize she just talking with the most romantic man in this country.
Then yada yada yada and in the end of the letter, I ends the message with :
Oh yes I almost forget, the girl's name is.....( her name ).
It's just an example, just be creative and use your imagination to express your feeling then handwriting those on papper. Make it meaningful, as

The Theme Of Love In Carver's 'Cathedral'
Carver's short story "Cathedral" is about a man and a woman who are married. The woman's blind friend Robert, whose wife just died is coming to
stay with them because he plans on visiting his dead wife's relatives nearby. Robert knew the man's wife because she worked for him one summer,
reading to Robert. The wife and Robert stayed in touch over the years by sending tapes to each other, and letting each other know about what was
going on in their lives. When the man hears Robert is coming over he makes idiotic comments about Robert's wife and felt that Robert would be a
burden on them because he is blind. The man and the woman proceed to argue over the situation. The wife tells her husband, "If you had a friend, any
friend, and the friend came to visit, I'd make him feel comfortable" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). The man responds to this by stating, "I don't have any
blind friends" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). When Robert finally arrives, they converse, drink, and eat together. After, the wife goes upstairs, the man
and Robert begin to smoke some weed together. While the wife was sleeping, they start watching TV together and talking. Robert asks the man to
explain to him what a cathedral looks like because cathedrals came up on the TV. The man has trouble explaining it and cannot describe to Robert
what a cathedral looks like. Then Robert asks the man to draw a cathedral with him. Robert request that the man close his eyes, and they begin to
draw. This is where the story ends and it seems that this is when the man became aware of the difficult lives blind people live as he could not explain
what a cathedral looked like, and he could not see his drawing.
"Cathedral" represents the theme of how important communication is to the success of relationships. First, when the man finds out the woman's blind
friend is coming he makes many rude comments. As a result, the woman then starts to attack the man personally by saying, "You don't have any
friends" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). Due to their poor communication, the man cannot simply express that he is insecure that her friend is coming, and
he also cannot tell his wife that he believes Robert will be a burden because he is blind. Likewise, the man

Symbolism In Raymond Carver's Cathedral
Humans tend to take multiple aspects of life for granted such as their five senses. Many people use their two eyes every day to look at the world
around them, but they do not see all of the life around them. Some people take the same flight of stairs everyday at their workplace or school campus
for years on end, but if one asked them how many steps the staircase held then they would more than likely draw a blank. This staircase example
represents the difference between looking and seeing. Looking requires the physical act of utilizing the eyes, but seeing requires a deeper level of
thinking only accessed through one's brain. Throughout "Cathedral", Raymond Carver uses the point of view, the characters, and the symbols to show

other verbally, but one can easily infer that their bond has more strength than what the wife and narrator currently have. These tapes have traveled
between these two for years on end and have lasted longer than the wife's first marriage. These tapes represent a special kind of intimacy that the

Cinderella Monologue
Hi there everyone! I'm Cinderella but most people called me Ella or Cinder. Right now I'm just wandering around my enormous house. I'm so bored!
So I'm just going to tell you the real story about me because lately I've been feeling really bad because people are always praising me that I'm so
perfect, but I'm not. I just can't stand it anymore! It is so bothersome! So I'm just going to tell you the truth even though I'm not supposed to. So don't
tell anyone. Shh!
So here's how it goes. I live in a really big mansion. My father is a business person but I don't really remember who he works for. My mother died
when I was 10 and now I'm 20 and single and ready to mingle. My dad remarried when I was 12 and my step–mother had two daughters. Oh, I forgot
to tell you I have an evil twin named Cinder and she is always picking on me. We looked exactly the same, but our personalities are completely
different. I"m really nice, loved to talk, little spoiled––of course I'm spoiled we're rich. Cinder is rude, mean, and she doesn't want to help or do
anything. My two step–sister were also twins and 2 years older than me. My dad was always out on business trips so when he was gone they would
make me sleep in a tiny room downstairs. They liked Cinder because she was just like them. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Social Alienation In The Bee Movie
Title Bee Movie is a 2007 children's animated film, produced by popular comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The film centers around protagonist Barry B.
Benson, a young male bee dissatisfied with the way his fellow workers are forced to live their lives. Bee movie works as an example of class
division and social uprising within a society. Although the difference between the proletariat and bourgeoisie extend farther than socioeconomic
standing, as the bourgeoisie in this scenario are a different species, this film still works as a model for societal divide. The relationship between bees
and the humans in Bee Movie represents the exploitation and alienation of proletariat workers, and how class division can lead to revolution. In order

In one scene, Barry discovers many bees are being farmed for their capital, and are trapped under the service of the bourgeoisie. The exploitation of
the bees continues because they are unaware of their treatment and believe free agency is not an attainable part of their life. Barry B. Benson
challenges this exploitation because he believes bees and humans should live equally. Barry represents the social revolution of proletariats that Marx
believed was inevitable once the workers realized they were stronger than the bourgoisie controlling their lives. (Mulder). The worker bees are also
exploited through their "species–being." Their work is not about free conscious activity, and instead is a task given to them to produce capital for the
hive until they

The American Dream In John Steinbeck's The Winter Of Our...
In John Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent, the quest for the American dream consumes the mindset of the citizens of New Baytown. Residing
in a town plagued by corruption, Ethan Hawley embarks on an expedition to discover the perfect balance between greed and generosity in return for
status; working as a store clerk cannot uphold the once proud Hawley name. The conflict between the craving of affluence and an obligation to fit into
the society's moral standards drives Ethan, his devoted wife, Mary, and Marullo, his immigrant boss, to desperately secure their futures. Ethan, "a hero
who gambles his soul," jeopardizes his sanity, so his family can indulge in a lavish lifestyle (Shillinglaw 28). Furthermore, the tantalizing traps of wealth
, power, and status capture Steinbeck's characters, leading them down disastrous paths to despair.
Harvard–educated Ethan's tedious occupation as a store clerk shames him and tarnishes the legacy of the Hawley name, not bolstering their once
desirable fortune. Within Ethan's veins flows the blood of his ancestors, half Puritan righteousness and half pirate greediness. As many push him to
establish a greater income, Ethan must choose between dirty money and hard–earned cash. Ethan desires to give Mary the world, and the principal
motivation for his actions is wanting to please her. Moreover, Allen and Mary Ellen, his children, aspire to live the life that their father cannot provide

How Is Snowball Into A Mountain Of Trouble?
It's funny how the smallest of comments can snowball into a mountain of trouble. I guess it's the silence that really hurts the situation, beating it into

The Layers Of Lies : How Memories And Truths Are Created...
Layers of Lies
I can see that the truth is a mirage. To put it simply, there is a real truth between hundreds of layers of manufactured truth. The truth I may know at a
moment in time will be altered if a second point of view is added to my truth; the truth is therefore an illusion. What one person may regard as the truth
is different from what another may believe and that is because we absorb specific moments of time based on what we think is important and that is
how memories and truths are created or dare I say, manufactured. In relation to the short story "In a Grove" by Akutagawa, you can clearly observe
this phenomena, as I choose to call it, occur. The bandit, wife, samurai and witnesses have all chosen to absorb specific moments of this event. The
question I place forward is, is this deliberate or unintentional? Or is this an effect of cognitive biases? There is truth in the midst of the confessions of
the parties, somewhere between the journey to Wakasa, meeting the bandit and the death of the samurai, lies the truth. One truth is clear, a man, woman
and a horse can be held constant. The woodcutter revealed that he saw a man and a woman on a horse. The policeman admitted to arresting Tajomaru
(the bandit) and attested to seeing a horse not too far away from Tajomaru. What should be deciphered now is, did the priest see Tajomaru, the horse
and the wife or did he see Takehiko (the dead man), the horse and the wife? Time is relative during

In a traditional point of view, humans are "above" animals, but the ability of the merchant to understand the animals defies the traditional hierarchy.
This decentralization of the relationship between a human and an animal is significant in the fact that the words of a rooster end up influencing the
actions of a person (the merchant). The rooster represents the traditional patriarchal concept of male "superiority" over female since he discusses a
stern piece of advice with a dog, after he "jumped on a hen and, finishing with her, jumped down and jumped on another" (Haddawy, 19), displaying a
behavior of control and disrespect over the opposite sex. The rooster indirectly advises the merchant, through his conversation with the dog, to "fall on
her" (referring to the merchantВґs wife) (19) and beat her with an oak branch until she has no desire to question her husbandВґs actions. The merchant
heeds the words of the rooster, and reestablishes the hierarchy of male over female dominance by using impulsive and violent animal like brutality. Yet,
the hierarchy of human–reason dominance over animalistic behavior was diminished after the merchant followed the advice of his cock. The Tale of
the Merchant and the Demon also explores changes of hierarchies related to the crossing of human–animal border. In the First Old ManВґs Tale, the
infertile wife of the old man, driven by her jealousy, causes the death of the old manВґs mistress, and

Jewish Influence On Jerry Seinfeld
Since the creation of the television, people from all walks of life have been tuned into their favorite shows, news channels, and entertainment.
Throughout the years, popular television shows have captured people's attention ever since. A popular comedy sitcom show, Seinfeld, created by Jerry
Seinfeld and Larry David, depicts a group of friends who live in Manhattan, and through their characters shows the everyday life for the individuals.
Seinfeld is still one of the very popular comedy sitcoms to come out during the '90's. The reason that sets Seinfeld apart from other television shows is
how Jerry Seinfeld included through the characters and episodes the Jewish American culture. Jerry Seinfeld, who is a Jewish American, wrote the
show to include the Jewish aspect, which was the unheard of since The Goldbergs in the 1940's. After all the success of the show, Jerry Seinfeld and

Raymond Carver Narrator
Anyone who has read Raymond Carvers "Cathedral" knows that the narrator is not looking forward or welcoming his guest into his home. Also, he is
not being very sympathetic of what this man's condition that he lives with is, being blind. The Narrator must learn to be more sympathetic in his life,
and should learn from this experience, with this older bling man. Raymond Carver uses his narrator non–sympathetic ways effectively throughout the
story, developing of the narrator from the beginning to the end, and how the narrator would not be as effective if he showed sympathy throughout the
short story. The narrator fails to show sympathy throughout the story to show that the man not judge him for what he is, to show the "Its really
something" moment, and to show the problems of the couple underneath what is happening. First, Carver uses his non–sympathetic narrator effectively
throughout the short story, by showing that the blind man can see more than him sometimes. The narrator says from the beginning that he does not
like how this blind man is coming to visit him and his wife. He knows that that the blind man and his wife have had known each other longer than the
two of them have known each other. Instead of welcoming his wife's old friend, he categorizes her friend with her past. Showing the narrator is
jealous and pity, which then makes you wonder if Robert, the blind man, was involved in her suicide attempt or her divorce. This explains how Robert

The Road Cormac Mccarthy Analysis
The Road by Cormac McCarthy tells the story of a father and his son trying to survive in a post– apocalyptic world. In the book, McCarthy sets up
different themes and he constructs them through his choices in The Road. One theme McCarthy shows is that in a world of despair, we must choose
to focus on the good things, we can focus on these good things only if we let ourselves do so. McCarthy displays this theme when the father
remembers his wife's death. This memory occurs to the man after his son says, "I wish I was with my mom" (McCarthy, 55). From the text, it is
inferred that the wife had a strong dislike towards her son, the boy, and the world she was living in. McCarthy displays her hatred through the
quote, "Sooner or later they will catch us and kill us. They will rape me. They'll rape him. They are going to find us. They are going to rape us and
kill us and eat us and you won't face it" (McCarthy, 56). The quote uses a polysyndeton, as McCarthy repeats the idea of being killed and raped, and
creates a dark setting and harsh tone as the wife tells the man of the bad things to come if they stay in this world any longer. From this quote,
McCarthy states that the wife would kill herself rather than face these dangers and that she chooses death over the man and her child. McCarthy
explains this through the quote, "I've taken a new lover. He can give me what you cannot" (McCarthy, 57). McCarthy uses personification to show that
this "new lover" is death and what

Sympathetic Soldier
Sympathetic Antonio
In Hector Tobar's novel, The Tattooed Soldier, many of the characters experience unpleasant situations. These include homelessness, joblessness, and
murder. These unpleasant situations lead to negativity in their lives, and this negativity can evoke feelings of sympathy. Of all the characters in
Tobar's novel, I believe Antonio deserves the greatest amount of sympathy because he lives a life of constant despair and is often treated unfairly,
which is like a trap from which he cannot escape.
Antonio's wife and son, Elena and Carlos, are killed by Longoria. In the chapter, Fire Escape", on page 183, it states "I did not bury my wife and

downtown made him feel braver than he had ever felt because he made choices that he most likely would never have made if he lived in his old
apartment in Los Angeles.
Antonio lets out his anger on an elderly man who attempts to steal a hot plate pan from a large trash bag of their belongings from his old apartment.
Antonio runs after the old man and punches him multiple times. "Antonio drove his fist into the man's face, the nose cartilage snapping under his
knuckles. Another punch this one like hammering nails into the ground, a clenched fist to the temple. A weak scream from the thief, and then one
more punch, to the mouth". He felt ashamed and embarrassed of what he did to the old man, unlike Longoria who feels more alive after his savage acts.
Antonio eventually blames his actions on the surroundings.
Antonio becomes determined to kill Longoria and begins to watch Longoria's every move. He has the desire to kill Longoria for many reasons and
wants to get rid of him. Eventually, under many conditions, Antonio does manage to meet Frank, another homeless man who is an African American

The pastor, who is the head of the church, starts the meeting with a prayer and he gives a brief summary of the origin of the programme. He informs
us that it has to do with little children within the ages 3–11 years. There would be variety of activities such as bible stories, games and memory verses.
We require a medical report on each child, especially those with allergies, we also need their parent/ carer to sign on who would be dropping the
children and picking them at the end of the day's activity. As the pastor is talking his wife and a few elders would be distributing some refreshments.
During this first meeting the youth fellowship had to elect a president and secretary who will direct activities during the meetings and further in the
programme. This is when I was elected the secretary of the youth fellowship and at the moment I felt very responsible and I was determined to make
good use of the opportunity.
After the two months preparation the day finally came. Personally I was nervous surprisingly, but I believe it was due to the fact that I was the
secretary and all I wanted was nothing but success without problems. The first day it started at 9am– 12pm because it had to do with registering the
children and then estimating the amount of needs required for the children. They came with their parents and they had to settle issues with the elders

The Truth About The Boy
He knew his wife was up to something the moment she tried to ignore anything to do with the mere mention of the word boyfriend. How she
adamantly refuse to say Joshua Hunt's name was yet another hint I should've paid closer attention. maybe it was how I was on the verge of asking
her if she knew any other name then Trever Benson that had caused me to be distracted. She knew the moment that boy was introduced to me and
his attention was more of some of the maids preforming their task then speaking to me. when one of the women dropped something they had to
pick up and he broke out in a cold sweat, I should've thrown him out of the nearest window. It wouldn't have mattered if I had, we were on the
ground floor. Then and again, it might not have been a total loss if the shock of it all cause him to scream for several hours thinking he was falling.
He didn't seem too bright to know the difference. For some reason the boy believes my wife is the only approval he needs to have a relationship with
my daughter. Then and again I should have asked my wife what kind of relationship he was hoping to have with my daughter. Well, the boy looked a
bit soft to me and giggles constantly. Actually, I wouldn't have been surprised to find out that the boy liked other boys and was hoping my daughter
might help him find the perfect boyfriend. I didn't know much about the Benson family, other than they were distant cousins to some man Elena was
once in a relationship with. I knew

Death is Unpleasant, My Friend
The Litigator got what he wanted. A copper–tinted key that appealed small in his palms, yet was as heavy as a stone. While looking at an unmarked
gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six foot hole. Despite the man's dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood
had flown out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed the left side of his stubble with the tip of
his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally interrupted his finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen.
Moonlight was all that provided a visionary source in Portland. "Once you enter, you will see why they are sixes and sevens." The man in the
grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw and responded calmly with, "Your comments won't matter once you're down there forever.
Alone. Six feet under. Where nobody can here peep a word." he paused momentarily. "Death is unpleasant my friend" The man became fearful after
hearing this sad, yet true comment that his chest reacted with a small reflex, causing goose bumps to form everywhere on his body. The Litigator
reached for his black pistol in the back pocket of his jeans. He aimed the barrel at the man's forehead. Giving a slight force on the trigger, a bullet
gusted out of the gun and penetrated into the man's forehead. Blood quickly pooled from his head. The Litigator was not interested in staying at the
cemetery for too long, so he took

Short Stories, Big Meanings : Hemingway's Literary Techniques
Short Stories, Big Meanings: Hemingway's Literary Techniques Hemingway is well known for his short stories. These concise stories aren't short for
lack of inspiration or laziness, but because they simply consist of everything that needed to be written. Many literary techniques are shared between
Hemingway's short stories, and yet every story is strikingly different in its own way. The techniques Hemingway uses in his writing make reading
even his shortest stories an immersive literary experience. The Old Man and the Sea is the longest of the short stories discussed here, but it still comes
in at only 127 pages. Three of the literary techniques used in this story are conflict, simile, and reflection on the past. A variety of conflicts are
squeezed into this story: man vs. self, man vs. society, man vs. nature, Santiago vs. fish, and present vs. past, to name a few. All of these conflicts
are due to Santiago trying to mend his wounded sense of pride. Santiago challenges himself to sail farther into the ocean than he ever has in order to
prove to society that he is not just an old, washed up fisherman. He is trying to prove this to himself, too. While out in the ocean he has to deal with
the wrath of Mother Nature and the conditions that tag along with her. He wrestles with the Marlin for days before he can actually capture it, and
when he finally does, sharks eat it up. Poor Santiago just cannot win. While all of these conflicts are going on,

Analysis Of ' The Truth Shall Set You Free
Speaking the Truth
Confusion was aptly named as each of the characters in this book are confused. Each one of them has a unique way of dealing with the uncertainties
that develop and each character becomes involved in the other's confusion, thereby heightening their own. All of the characters' confusion would have
been vaporized if they had only spoken the words they needed to say. The author shows that age and gender does not prohibit someone from being
confused and what we come away with is the necessity of speech. That the truth shall set you free.

Art And Its Impact On Arts
Art Enriches "Art does not solve problems, but makes us aware of their existence," sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz has said. The ability to
express oneself with arts has been not only therapeutic but educational. Arts learning can improve motivation, confidence, and teamwork. Art can
encompass many different activities .Being a New Orleanian we are surrounded by all types of art. We don't always take advantage of this rich
cultural and sightsee all the city has to offer. That is why after years of living here I have decided to explore. I stop by the Saenger Theatre located
on Canal Street. According to the Saenger official website, the Saenger Theatre opened on February 4, 1927. This source claims the theatre took
three years to build and cost $2.5 million. The building is such a staple on Canal. Before its renovation in 2013, the outside of it looked like
something I could pass up easily especially during the daytime. Now as I walked on the sidewalk. I see on the outside of the building a timeline of
historical events. I could not help admiring the facts posted around the building. They were vibrant colored pictures detailing some facts about the
Saenger and some fascinating historical events. A notable picture talks about the first "talkie" to debut at the Saenger which was Lights of New York.
Walking inside I feel a high–class aura that also feels welcoming. High extravagant ceilings was one of things I noticed in the lobby.

Persuasive Essay On Being A Outsider
Being an outsider is a position that an individual does not fit in with the rest of society. Areas of society are often called clique at which we feel
like we must coordinate our actions to follow and pleases. Those actions leads to the anonymous question should the outside, those who do not
follow the rest be embraced or rejected. Corresponding with the rights of our world, we are seen as equal, yet we do not always follow that.
Outsiders should be rejected, providing them growth, individuality through independence and, crucial life skills. Like a seed planted in the soil
growing into a nice tree. Similar to the seed outsiders are born and left to grow. They are living , breathing, eating and drinking yet they are not as
high on the competition list as others are who follow the same steps. With that said the seed or outsiders are left to grow while being independent they
from senses of personal goals which allow them to transform their minds around whatever that goal may be, possible career, academics or even
financial goals at which only make them better and stronger people. "Each of these people begin with disadvantages that could have, and at times did
exclude them from normal society. But each turned their differences into advantages"(Clark). Critics say that the growth is in the wrong areas they
should be developing growth in terms of friends and social rankings. Arguing that starts with the everlasting example of success that is displayed by the

Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller's Tale
In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A'Becket, who was martyred
there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time.
The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid
for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The
pilgrims' stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the
judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller's Tale and the Man at Law's
Tale. The Man at Law's Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil
characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller's Tale. Before The Miller's Tale, The Host
encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. He tells him, "'Now hold on, Robin, dear old
brother;/ We'll get some better man to tell another;/ You wait a bit. Let's have some common sense.'" (21
–23). The Miller responds to this angrily,
saying "'God's soul,

If you were in a life or death situation, what would you do? This is what A Life–or Death Situation by the New York Times is primarily about a person
who goes through one such situation. The author 's purpose for writing this is what could happen in a life or death situation and the use of assisted

with her situation, and how she helps other people seeking the same problem. The article with a before the accident and how it happened. In the

would have chosen not to revive him so he wouldn't be in so much pain and hooked up to many machines, "[i]f Peggy been there... she might have
urged the rescuers not to revive him... he wanted no procedures done that 'would serve only to unnaturally prolong the moment of my death.'" (53),

Essay about Mistake in the Restaurant
The tinkling of forks on ceramic plates was what first stirred Frank from his seemingly bottomless slumber. He groped about for consciousness, but
the effort was in vain, like trying to grip oil in the hand. The clinking grew louder and was soon framed on the backdrop of dozens of voices that
blended together into a fuzzy indistinguishable surface. A few seconds later the smell of coffee and hot sweet pastries broke through, then blurry light
began to cloud his eyes.
Frank moved one finger and then another. The pressure on his body drew his awareness to the fact that he was sitting in a chair, a hard chair,
probably made of wood. He wiggled his toes inside of his shoes and felt the thick cotton socks against his feet. As the light grew he ... Show more

Frank's eyes were wide and straining, searching for point of familiarity, something he could recognize that would allow him to make sense of this place

before waking here, now, but clearly he had been here for some time, eating and drinking, and this group of friends thought it appropriate. Then Frank
did something that drew the heart from him.
Without thought or reason, he slipped the hand that was on his lap and closest to his neighbor, off of his leg and onto the warm smooth skin of the
woman's beside him. He did so in such a way that the others at the table would have no means of detecting it and then he gave it a gentle squeeze.
From the corner of his eye Frank could see the curve of her lips turn slightly upward into a stealthy guileful smile. Frank's heart raced.
Then he thought of the empty chair. Who had left it? He looked at her left hand and saw a wedding ring. He looked at his and saw only skin. Was
this his wife and he just didn't wear a ring? Was this the wife of whoever owned the empty chair?
She reached over and gave his hand a squeeze and then looked toward the bathrooms at the back corner of the cafГ©. Frank wanted to run.

Argumentative Essay On Jerry Seinfeld
Jerry Seinfeld began his commute after dinner, in no particular hurry. Around quarter to 8 on a drizzly Tuesday, he left his Manhattan home– a palatial
duplex apartment with picture windows and a broad terrace overlooking Central Park – and made for a nearby garage. Due to tell jokes at a comedy
club downtown, he decided to drive what he calls his "city car": a 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Stepping into the garage, he tugged a thick fabric
cover from the car. The interior was a pristine matte black, and the paint job was a startlingly luminous azure. "It's called Mexico blue– a very
traditional Porsche color," Seinfeld said. "In the '70s it looked normal, but now it looks insane." From Our Advertisers Continue reading the... Show

Seinfeld, who once said he wore sneakers long into adulthood "because it reminds me I don't have a job," has lately grown partial to Nike Shox,
which he likes for their extravagant cushioning, but tonight he opted for tan suede desert boots. When he's in the workplace – on a stage, microphone
in hand, trying to make a crowd erupt – the feel of a harder sole helps him get into the right mind–set. "I just tried a little Twitter experiment," Seinfeld
said. His appearance, at Gotham Comedy Club, had so far been kept secret, but just before leaving home, he'd announced the gig online on a whim.
"They've only got a half–hour to get there, so I'm not expecting a flash mob," he said. Gotham was an opportunity for Seinfeld to audition brand–new
material and fine–tune older bits in a relatively low–stakes context. In two days, he would perform for nearly 3,000 people at Manhattan's Beacon
Theater, and that show loomed large. It would be Seinfeld's first performance in New York City since 1998, not counting impromptu club appearances
and the odd private event, and it would kick off a citywide tour, with performances in each of the other boroughs. Born in Brooklyn, educated in
Queens and famous for a fictional Manhattan apartment, Seinfeld called the tour "a valentine," but he was, on one level, ambivalent about it. " 'The
Hometown Hero Returns' is not my narrative of being a stand–up," he said. "For me, it's the hotel. It's 'I Don't Belong Here.' It's 'The Stranger Rides
Into Town.' That's the proper form of this

Superb Superbowl Party It was Sunday, February 16th, 2017, I was just starting to get out of bed after a long night of preparing for the Superbowl

Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver
"Looking But Not Seeing"
The title of the story "Cathedral" by Raymond Carver is a far cry from the themes that run through the story. Naturally, one would expect the story to
centre on worship but it does not only mentioning it in passing. Admittedly, one of the themes that clearly come out of the story is an apparentblindness
of the narrator who though physically had sight could not see the deeper things in life. On the other hand, Robert, the physically blind man was very
insightful able to appreciate the beauty of life. Robert, the blind man finally assists the narrator to see through drawing of the cathedral.

serious limitation and could not bring himself to a point of imagining that he will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The fact that the narrator's wife could trust him, to pour out her emotional turmoil was a clear indication to this. It can be safely said that Robert's
responses to the narrator's wife kept her strong and made her overcome her challenges. Another interesting character of the blind man was his keen
desire to learn new things. After all, the smoking of cannabis was his first time.
Undoubtedly, the story captures the narrator as a person who is very cold in his associations with people. The description of the wedding between
Robert and Beulah as not worth attending by anyone is utter insensitivity on his part. Further, the way he describes the blind man's eyes is very
distasteful, "As I stared at his face, I saw the left pupil turn in toward his nose while the other made an effort to keep in one place..." Further still his
insensitivity is revealed by him saying that he knew blind men to be led by dogs. He was that

Suffering Makes USronger Analysis
"Suffering makes us stronger and leads to success"
The quote "What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger" is credited to the German theorist, Friedrich Nietzsche. The wording was changed ever so slightly
over time as Nietzsche said it: "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger." As it goes, he was absolutely correct. To fully understand this concept,
we must first understand the word suffering. Let me make this clear, pain and suffering are two completely different things. Suffering can be painful
plus the avoidance and resistance of physical, emotional, or spiritual pain and thus suffering is a combinational thing. So if that's what suffering is, pain
can produce suffering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He says that a person has to have had enough and, at some level, recognize that the suffering is self–created by their thoughts and that there is another
way to live. The concept of surrendering is taught in every religion. Surrendering is the central message of Buddhism and is even found in the
teachings of Jesus. Byron Katie writes in Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life: The only time we suffer is when we believe
a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is, is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you
might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, "Meow." Wanting reality to be different

Make Way For Duckling Analysis

  • 1. Make Way For Duckling Analysis I took a 360 trying to see the entirety of Boston from my position in front of a massive statue of our nation's first president. The skyline of Boston's financial district sat behind George Washington's statue in the Boston Public Garden. This park is the oldest botanical garden in the USA, and it looked it, but not tarnished. Behind the park, the skyscrapers didn't reflect the light like yesterday because the sun hid behind the numerous gloomy clouds. The buildings seemed taller and newer than the few hardly–cloud–touching buildings in downtown Spokane. On my left was historic Beacon Hill, where my mom, sister, and I had devoured delicious Italian food the night before. My mom grabbed her phone and begged my sister and I to stand closer to the statue for pictures. My mom took pictures until my face felt like it was cramping. Then my sister,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The flowers weren't quite in bloom yet because it was early April, but I could picture how beautiful the path would look lined with colorful flowers. We walked until we saw a crowd of children and families by a small, bronze statue of ducklings following their mother. This sculpture was inspired by Mrs. Mallard from the children's book, Make Way for Duckling by Robert McClosky. As a child, my mom read my siblings and I this book countless times; it was one of our favorites. The little kids ran around them while their parents, a mix of locals and tourists sipped their coffee, took videos, and chatted. After we took pictures of the ducklings, we continued along the path, and it led us to a blue iron and stone bridge over a lake. This suspension bridge lay over the lake. The lake wasn't as dirty as the Manito Park pond, but it certainly wasn't blue. Lauren and I stood on the bridge while my mother walked down the steps to the water–level pathway. She stood taking more pictures while I looked out to see children running around near the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Figure A Poem Makes By Robert Lee Frost Robert Lee Frost is an American poet, often called 'the voice of America' as he represents the feelings of American people. His poetry celebrates the countryside of New Hampshire. His poems deal with familiar native scenes. He uses simple words from the plain language of every–day life. In his work, 'The Figure a Poem Makes' he defines "a poem begins in delight ends in wisdom''. One of the significant features of Frost's poetry is its dramatic quality. Poems like 'Home Burial', 'The Death of the Hired man' and 'West Running Brook' are witnesses to Frost's capacity in representing conversations in verse form. All these poems are based on the conversation between the husband and the wife. During their conversation there are lot of controversies ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He seems to be carefree and not to bother about what will happen to the child's tender body. The husband feels that he is a cursed man in this world because he is hearing all this from no one else but his own wife. She opens the door wider and he demands where she means to go, so that he may bring her back. Time is good remedy for everything. It heals the wounds created by persons and incidents. With this hope one day or other day he will bring her back to home. Here the poem starts with the fear of the wife and ends with the will power of the husband. • 3. Raymond Carter The Cathedral The short story of Raymond Carter "The Cathedral" we see a young couple that is struggling with money and their relationship. The husband who was going through officers' training school was not bringing in any profit yet, so his wife found a blind man named Robert that was needing some help. The wife helped the blind man for a summer until her husband was named a commission officer and they moved out to Seattle. The blind man and the wife still kept in touch, sending each other tapes to each other about how their life was going. She told the blind man everything that went on. She explain to Robert how she did not like her husbands job and that she didn't think she could keep going forward anymore moving to different spots of the United States. ... The wife and husband had been through hardships the past couple of years and it seemed like the blind man was what was keeping his wife going. They were in the living room having conversations and to the husband it seemed like all of the talk was all about the blind man. There was no talk about the husband and it seems like he just felt like he was left out. They had been in contact for so long and the husband honestly just kind of held a grudge toward the blind man. Much of the talk the whole night was about the blind man and what he had done and accomplished and it just set the husband on ease. Just the little things such as turning the T.V. on set his wife into a rage and the husband just didn't know what to do. As the night went on they had supper and multiple drinks and were now just in the living room having conversations. The husband and the blind man slowly started to conversate more and more about different things and the wife was getting tired. The two were watching T.V. and just starting communicating a much better whenever the husband's wife had stepped out to change into a robe because she was getting tired. The husband began coming more relaxed and was just feeling more comfortable. They joked and discussed what was going on T.V.. • 7. The Theme Of Love In Carver's 'Cathedral' Carver's short story "Cathedral" is about a man and a woman who are married. The woman's blind friend Robert, whose wife just died is coming to stay with them because he plans on visiting his dead wife's relatives nearby. Robert knew the man's wife because she worked for him one summer, reading to Robert. The wife and Robert stayed in touch over the years by sending tapes to each other, and letting each other know about what was going on in their lives. When the man hears Robert is coming over he makes idiotic comments about Robert's wife and felt that Robert would be a burden on them because he is blind. The man and the woman proceed to argue over the situation. The wife tells her husband, "If you had a friend, any friend, and the friend came to visit, I'd make him feel comfortable" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). The man responds to this by stating, "I don't have any blind friends" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). When Robert finally arrives, they converse, drink, and eat together. After, the wife goes upstairs, the man and Robert begin to smoke some weed together. While the wife was sleeping, they start watching TV together and talking. Robert asks the man to explain to him what a cathedral looks like because cathedrals came up on the TV. The man has trouble explaining it and cannot describe to Robert what a cathedral looks like. Then Robert asks the man to draw a cathedral with him. Robert request that the man close his eyes, and they begin to draw. This is where the story ends and it seems that this is when the man became aware of the difficult lives blind people live as he could not explain what a cathedral looked like, and he could not see his drawing. "Cathedral" represents the theme of how important communication is to the success of relationships. First, when the man finds out the woman's blind friend is coming he makes many rude comments. As a result, the woman then starts to attack the man personally by saying, "You don't have any friends" (Carver, "Cathedral" 34). Due to their poor communication, the man cannot simply express that he is insecure that her friend is coming, and he also cannot tell his wife that he believes Robert will be a burden because he is blind. Likewise, the man ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Symbolism In Raymond Carver's Cathedral Humans tend to take multiple aspects of life for granted such as their five senses. Many people use their two eyes every day to look at the world around them, but they do not see all of the life around them. Some people take the same flight of stairs everyday at their workplace or school campus for years on end, but if one asked them how many steps the staircase held then they would more than likely draw a blank. This staircase example represents the difference between looking and seeing. Looking requires the physical act of utilizing the eyes, but seeing requires a deeper level of thinking only accessed through one's brain. • 9. Cinderella Monologue Hi there everyone! I'm Cinderella but most people called me Ella or Cinder. Right now I'm just wandering around my enormous house. I'm so bored! So I'm just going to tell you the real story about me because lately I've been feeling really bad because people are always praising me that I'm so perfect, but I'm not. I just can't stand it anymore! It is so bothersome! So I'm just going to tell you the truth even though I'm not supposed to. So don't tell anyone. Shh! So here's how it goes. I live in a really big mansion. My father is a business person but I don't really remember who he works for. My mother died when I was 10 and now I'm 20 and single and ready to mingle. My dad remarried when I was 12 and my step–mother had two daughters. Oh, I forgot to tell you I have an evil twin named Cinder and she is always picking on me. We looked exactly the same, but our personalities are completely different. I"m really nice, loved to talk, little spoiled––of course I'm spoiled we're rich. Cinder is rude, mean, and she doesn't want to help or do anything. My two step–sister were also twins and 2 years older than me. • 10. Social Alienation In The Bee Movie Title Bee Movie is a 2007 children's animated film, produced by popular comedian Jerry Seinfeld. The film centers around protagonist Barry B. Benson, a young male bee dissatisfied with the way his fellow workers are forced to live their lives. Bee movie works as an example of class division and social uprising within a society. Although the difference between the proletariat and bourgeoisie extend farther than socioeconomic standing, as the bourgeoisie in this scenario are a different species, this film still works as a model for societal divide. The relationship between bees and the humans in Bee Movie represents the exploitation and alienation of proletariat workers, and how class division can lead to revolution. The exploitation of the bees continues because they are unaware of their treatment and believe free agency is not an attainable part of their life. Barry B. Benson challenges this exploitation because he believes bees and humans should live equally. Barry represents the social revolution of proletariats that Marx believed was inevitable once the workers realized they were stronger than the bourgoisie controlling their lives. (Mulder). The worker bees are also exploited through their "species–being." Their work is not about free conscious activity, and instead is a task given to them to produce capital for the hive until they ... • 11. The American Dream In John Steinbeck's The Winter Of Our... In John Steinbeck's The Winter of Our Discontent, the quest for the American dream consumes the mindset of the citizens of New Baytown. Residing in a town plagued by corruption, Ethan Hawley embarks on an expedition to discover the perfect balance between greed and generosity in return for status; working as a store clerk cannot uphold the once proud Hawley name. The conflict between the craving of affluence and an obligation to fit into the society's moral standards drives Ethan, his devoted wife, Mary, and Marullo, his immigrant boss, to desperately secure their futures. Ethan, "a hero who gambles his soul," jeopardizes his sanity, so his family can indulge in a lavish lifestyle (Shillinglaw 28). Furthermore, the tantalizing traps of wealth , power, and status capture Steinbeck's characters, leading them down disastrous paths to despair. Harvard–educated Ethan's tedious occupation as a store clerk shames him and tarnishes the legacy of the Hawley name, not bolstering their once desirable fortune. Within Ethan's veins flows the blood of his ancestors, half Puritan righteousness and half pirate greediness. As many push him to establish a greater income, Ethan must choose between dirty money and hard–earned cash. • 12. How Is Snowball Into A Mountain Of Trouble? It's funny how the smallest of comments can snowball into a mountain of trouble. I guess it's the silence that really hurts the situation, beating it into a pulp of what it used to be. I have very few friends, and that can sometimes come in handy or hurt me in unimaginable ways. Now I know that I've said some things I shouldn't have said before, but it's usually stayed the small incident it is. There has only been one time in my life where I have been in some deep trouble due to saying something I shouldn't have said. It all started in science class. I looked to my right to apologize to Robert, but he started getting up to leave because of the bell. I felt truly terrible. I hadn't meant what I said and shouldn't have said it, but I still thought the whole thing would blow over in a matter of a few minutes. I couldn't have been more incorrect. The next class was a bore, as usual. I wasn't really thinking about Robert and what I had said until I felt a poke from behind. I heard a small hissing noise. "Psst," the mysterious entity said. I turned around to see that it was one of my worst enemies, Dylan. "Hello, Dylan," I hissed to him not unlike Jerry Seinfeld encountering Newman. "Hello, Fonseca," he responded in the same manner. "I heard that you were bad–mouthing Robert, like the coward you are. I'm pretty sure I saw him taking an alternate path to class, to avoid you." Oh man, I thought. This isn't going to end well. "Just stay away from me, Dylan," I told him. He sat back in his chair, having accomplished his mission. "Your grave," he said. That period was the hardest I've ever had to stand. • 13. The Layers Of Lies : How Memories And Truths Are Created... Layers of Lies I can see that the truth is a mirage. To put it simply, there is a real truth between hundreds of layers of manufactured truth. The truth I may know at a moment in time will be altered if a second point of view is added to my truth; the truth is therefore an illusion. What one person may regard as the truth is different from what another may believe and that is because we absorb specific moments of time based on what we think is important and that is how memories and truths are created or dare I say, manufactured. In relation to the short story "In a Grove" by Akutagawa, you can clearly observe this phenomena, as I choose to call it, occur. The bandit, wife, samurai and witnesses have all chosen to absorb specific moments of this event. The question I place forward is, is this deliberate or unintentional? Or is this an effect of cognitive biases? There is truth in the midst of the confessions of the parties, somewhere between the journey to Wakasa, meeting the bandit and the death of the samurai, lies the truth. One truth is clear, a man, woman and a horse can be held constant. The woodcutter revealed that he saw a man and a woman on a horse. The policeman admitted to arresting Tajomaru (the bandit) and attested to seeing a horse not too far away from Tajomaru. What should be deciphered now is, did the priest see Tajomaru, the horse and the wife or did he see Takehiko (the dead man), the horse and the wife? Time is relative during ... Animal Frontiers in the Arabian Nights, A Reflection of Changes in Hierarchies and Effective Storytelling The concept of digression is explored and mastered by Shahrazad throughout the sets of stories that comprise The Arabian Nights. Unlike the stories of Jaques and his Master, in Jaques the Fatalist, where digression plays well in a journey without a specific purpose, the stories of Shahrazad and her use of digression has a clear objective. The main character of The Arabian Nights, Shahrazad, makes use of her abilities as an effective storyteller to keep her audience engaged with a perfect sense of Kairos that achieves several purposes: arousing the KingВґs curiosity and keep it lingering, keeping herself alive, establishing her own ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a traditional point of view, humans are "above" animals, but the ability of the merchant to understand the animals defies the traditional hierarchy. This decentralization of the relationship between a human and an animal is significant in the fact that the words of a rooster end up influencing the actions of a person (the merchant). The rooster represents the traditional patriarchal concept of male "superiority" over female since he discusses a stern piece of advice with a dog, after he "jumped on a hen and, finishing with her, jumped down and jumped on another" (Haddawy, 19), displaying a behavior of control and disrespect over the opposite sex. The rooster indirectly advises the merchant, through his conversation with the dog, to "fall on her" (referring to the merchantВґs wife) (19) and beat her with an oak branch until she has no desire to question her husbandВґs actions. The merchant heeds the words of the rooster, and reestablishes the hierarchy of male over female dominance by using impulsive and violent animal like brutality. Yet, the hierarchy of human–reason dominance over animalistic behavior was diminished after the merchant followed the advice of his cock. The Tale of the Merchant and the Demon also explores changes of hierarchies related to the crossing of human–animal border. In the First Old ManВґs Tale, the infertile wife of the old man, driven by her jealousy, causes the death of the old manВґs mistress, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Jewish Influence On Jerry Seinfeld Since the creation of the television, people from all walks of life have been tuned into their favorite shows, news channels, and entertainment. Throughout the years, popular television shows have captured people's attention ever since. A popular comedy sitcom show, Seinfeld, created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, depicts a group of friends who live in Manhattan, and through their characters shows the everyday life for the individuals. Seinfeld is still one of the very popular comedy sitcoms to come out during the '90's. The reason that sets Seinfeld apart from other television shows is how Jerry Seinfeld included through the characters and episodes the Jewish American culture. Jerry Seinfeld, who is a Jewish American, wrote the show to include the Jewish aspect, which was the unheard of since The Goldbergs in the 1940's. After all the success of the show, Jerry Seinfeld and the show Seinfeld, had faced early criticism from executives and writers. Also, he is not being very sympathetic of what this man's condition that he lives with is, being blind. The Narrator must learn to be more sympathetic in his life, and should learn from this experience, with this older bling man. Raymond Carver uses his narrator non–sympathetic ways effectively throughout the story, developing of the narrator from the beginning to the end, and how the narrator would not be as effective if he showed sympathy throughout the short story. The narrator fails to show sympathy throughout the story to show that the man not judge him for what he is, to show the "Its really something" moment, and to show the problems of the couple underneath what is happening. First, Carver uses his non–sympathetic narrator effectively throughout the short story, by showing that the blind man can see more than him sometimes. The narrator says from the beginning that he does not like how this blind man is coming to visit him and his wife. He knows that that the blind man and his wife have had known each other longer than the two of them have known each other. Instead of welcoming his wife's old friend, he categorizes her friend with her past. Showing the narrator is jealous and pity, which then makes you wonder if Robert, the blind man, was involved in her suicide attempt or her divorce. This explains how Robert would have a better ... • 18. The Road Cormac Mccarthy Analysis The Road by Cormac McCarthy tells the story of a father and his son trying to survive in a post– apocalyptic world. In the book, McCarthy sets up different themes and he constructs them through his choices in The Road. One theme McCarthy shows is that in a world of despair, we must choose to focus on the good things, we can focus on these good things only if we let ourselves do so. McCarthy displays this theme when the father remembers his wife's death. This memory occurs to the man after his son says, "I wish I was with my mom" (McCarthy, 55). From the text, it is inferred that the wife had a strong dislike towards her son, the boy, and the world she was living in. McCarthy displays her hatred through the quote, "Sooner or later they will catch us and kill us. They will rape me. They'll rape him. They are going to find us. They are going to rape us and kill us and eat us and you won't face it" (McCarthy, 56). The quote uses a polysyndeton, as McCarthy repeats the idea of being killed and raped, and creates a dark setting and harsh tone as the wife tells the man of the bad things to come if they stay in this world any longer. From this quote, McCarthy states that the wife would kill herself rather than face these dangers and that she chooses death over the man and her child. McCarthy explains this through the quote, "I've taken a new lover. He can give me what you cannot" (McCarthy, 57). McCarthy uses personification to show that this "new lover" is death and what ... These include homelessness, joblessness, and murder. These unpleasant situations lead to negativity in their lives, and this negativity can evoke feelings of sympathy. Of all the characters in Tobar's novel, I believe Antonio deserves the greatest amount of sympathy because he lives a life of constant despair and is often treated unfairly, which is like a trap from which he cannot escape. Antonio felt that being onthe streets downtown made him feel braver than he had ever felt because he made choices that he most likely would never have made if he lived in his old apartment in Los Angeles. Antonio lets out his anger on an elderly man who attempts to steal a hot plate pan from a large trash bag of their belongings from his old apartment. Antonio runs after the old man and punches him multiple times. "Antonio drove his fist into the man's face, the nose cartilage snapping under his knuckles. Another punch this one like hammering nails into the ground, a clenched fist to the temple. A weak scream from the thief, and then one more punch, to the mouth". He felt ashamed and embarrassed of what he did to the old man, unlike Longoria who feels more alive after his savage acts. Antonio eventually blames his actions on the surroundings. Antonio becomes determined to kill Longoria and begins to watch Longoria's every move. He has the desire to kill Longoria for many reasons and wants to get rid of him. While looking at an unmarked gravestone, another man bled eternally in the six foot hole. Despite the man's dedication to not move his palm from the wound, most of the blood had flown out of his body and into the soil. Taking a look at the man in the grave, the Litigator caressed the left side of his stubble with the tip of his index finger. Drips of precipitation occasionally interrupted his finger from stroking the hairs. It rained for six days; no sunshine was seen. Moonlight was all that provided a visionary source in Portland. "Once you enter, you will see why they are sixes and sevens." The man in the grave commented. The Litigator let out a sudden guffaw and responded calmly with, "Your comments won't matter once you're down there forever. Alone. Six feet under. Where nobody can here peep a word." he paused momentarily. "Death is unpleasant my friend" The man became fearful after hearing this sad, yet true comment that his chest reacted with a small reflex, causing goose bumps to form everywhere on his body. The Litigator reached for his black pistol in the back pocket of his jeans. He aimed the barrel at the man's forehead. These concise stories aren't short for lack of inspiration or laziness, but because they simply consist of everything that needed to be written. Many literary techniques are shared between Hemingway's short stories, and yet every story is strikingly different in its own way. The techniques Hemingway uses in his writing make reading even his shortest stories an immersive literary experience. The Old Man and the Sea is the longest of the short stories discussed here, but it still comes in at only 127 pages. Three of the literary techniques used in this story are conflict, simile, and reflection on the past. A variety of conflicts are squeezed into this story: man vs. self, man vs. society, man vs. nature, Santiago vs. fish, and present vs. past, to name a few. All of these conflicts are due to Santiago trying to mend his wounded sense of pride. Santiago challenges himself to sail farther into the ocean than he ever has in order to prove to society that he is not just an old, washed up fisherman. He is trying to prove this to himself, too. While out in the ocean he has to deal with the wrath of Mother Nature and the conditions that tag along with her. • 30. Summary Of The Canterbury Tales And Miller's Tale In Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales, there are 29 pilgrims making their way to Canterbury to see the shrine to Thomas A'Becket, who was martyred there. They are accompanied by Chaucer, the narrator, and Harry Bailey, the host. The host proposes a storytelling contest to help pass the time. The Host is the sole judge of the contest, and each story is judged on its entertainment and moral factors. The winner will receive a free meal, paid for by all the other pilgrims upon their arrival back at the inn. Each Pilgrim was to tell two stories on the way there, and two on the way back. The pilgrims' stories covered a large spectrum of subjects and morals along the way. The wide variety of the stories, in a way, makes it easier for the judge to judge the stories, but also harder. A good example of two very contrasting stories in the contest are the Miller's Tale and the Man at Law's Tale. The Man at Law's Tale would have won the contest. Even though it is not in the same rhyme scheme, has a confusing storyline and some evil characters, it is far more clean, moral, and appropriate than the adultery, lies, and scandal of the Miller's Tale. Before The Miller's Tale, The Host encourages him not to go, because he is too drunk, and will not be able to clearly tell a good story. • 38. Argumentative Essay On Jerry Seinfeld Jerry Seinfeld began his commute after dinner, in no particular hurry. Around quarter to 8 on a drizzly Tuesday, he left his Manhattan home– a palatial duplex apartment with picture windows and a broad terrace overlooking Central Park – and made for a nearby garage. Due to tell jokes at a comedy club downtown, he decided to drive what he calls his "city car": a 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S. Stepping into the garage, he tugged a thick fabric cover from the car. The interior was a pristine matte black, and the paint job was a startlingly luminous azure. "It's called Mexico blue– a very traditional Porsche color," Seinfeld said. "In the '70s it looked normal, but now it looks insane." From Our Advertisers Continue reading the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Seinfeld, who once said he wore sneakers long into adulthood "because it reminds me I don't have a job," has lately grown partial to Nike Shox, which he likes for their extravagant cushioning, but tonight he opted for tan suede desert boots. When he's in the workplace – on a stage, microphone in hand, trying to make a crowd erupt – the feel of a harder sole helps him get into the right mind–set. "I just tried a little Twitter experiment," Seinfeld said. His appearance, at Gotham Comedy Club, had so far been kept secret, but just before leaving home, he'd announced the gig online on a whim. "They've only got a half–hour to get there, so I'm not expecting a flash mob," he said. Gotham was an opportunity for Seinfeld to audition brand–new material and fine–tune older bits in a relatively low–stakes context. In two days, he would perform for nearly 3,000 people at Manhattan's Beacon Theater, and that show loomed large. It would be Seinfeld's first performance in New York City since 1998, not counting impromptu club appearances and the odd private event, and it would kick off a citywide tour, with performances in each of the other boroughs. Born in Brooklyn, educated in Queens and famous for a fictional Manhattan apartment, Seinfeld called the tour "a valentine," but he was, on one level, ambivalent about it. " 'The Hometown Hero Returns' is not my narrative of being a stand–up," he said. "For me, it's the hotel. It's 'I Don't Belong Here.' It's 'The Stranger Rides Into Town.' That's the proper form of this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 39. Superbowl Party Narrative Superb Superbowl Party It was Sunday, February 16th, 2017, I was just starting to get out of bed after a long night of preparing for the Superbowl party I was going to have today. I walked out of my room just to see the ridiculous amount of Steelers posters were up, I could only guess it was my dad. I smelled the fragrance of the scented candle my mom had set up by the fireplace in the living room as I was walking to open the door to the garage. I opened the door to expect the guests to be here, but they were nowhere to be found. "Hello?" I said aloud, but no one replied. I went to the kitchen to notice a helicopter outside the window with Donald Trump, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Jerry Seinfeld. After I let them in Arnold Schwarzenegger asked ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "Don't you think that is a little too much money to bet with?" Jerry Seinfeld questioned. "Nonsense, I'm the president and I am rich." Donald Trump replied. Now I realized that Trump is a billionaire and it won't really matter if he loses this bet. I went to go get the food out for the guests, there was pizza, steak, cookies that Arnold was already eating, and slugs which are for Shrek and only Shrek. Shrek didn't arrive yet for some unknown reason so I watched the game for a little bit while Donald Trump and Arnold Schwarzenegger were fighting over who should eat the cookies. "No, put the cookie down!" Arnold yelled furiously. "I believe these cookies are for all the party guests Arnold!" Donald Trump replied angrily. They both grabbed a hold of the container of cookies, but since Arnold was more muscular and he was basically a robot, he won the fight and he had all the cookies for himself. "Yes, all the cookies are mine!" Arnold exclaimed with joy. After the fight for the cookies the door burst open and in came Shrek saying "Oh hello ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Blindness In Cathedral By Raymond Carver "Looking But Not Seeing" The title of the story "Cathedral" by Raymond Carver is a far cry from the themes that run through the story. Naturally, one would expect the story to centre on worship but it does not only mentioning it in passing. Admittedly, one of the themes that clearly come out of the story is an apparentblindness of the narrator who though physically had sight could not see the deeper things in life. On the other hand, Robert, the physically blind man was very insightful able to appreciate the beauty of life. Robert, the blind man finally assists the narrator to see through drawing of the cathedral. Blindness An interesting development in the story is the narrator's apparent blindness though he possessed good eye sight. The narrator views blindness as a serious limitation and could not bring himself to a point of imagining that he will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fact that the narrator's wife could trust him, to pour out her emotional turmoil was a clear indication to this. It can be safely said that Robert's responses to the narrator's wife kept her strong and made her overcome her challenges. Another interesting character of the blind man was his keen desire to learn new things. After all, the smoking of cannabis was his first time. Undoubtedly, the story captures the narrator as a person who is very cold in his associations with people. The description of the wedding between Robert and Beulah as not worth attending by anyone is utter insensitivity on his part. Further, the way he describes the blind man's eyes is very distasteful, "As I stared at his face, I saw the left pupil turn in toward his nose while the other made an effort to keep in one place..." Further still his insensitivity is revealed by him saying that he knew blind men to be led by dogs. He was that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Hard Working By Jerry Seinfeld . Hard working – They must have the work ethic of someone who would pull all nighter just to make their project stand out, all in hopes toward a raise. Knowing that all of that hard work will pay off in the long run. 2. Humorful– Humor is very important to me. Coming home after a long day a partner who is there to make you laugh inside and out. Having a humor that comes close to Jerry Seinfeld would be the idea. 3. Compassion – Seeing a person in need one the side of a building begging for help then to go out of your day to help them. Making sure you help those who are in need even at your busiest day. 4. Trustworthy– Allowing us to tell each other our most deepest secrets. Ultimately knowing that they will never be told to another ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Suffering Makes USronger Analysis "Suffering makes us stronger and leads to success" The quote "What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger" is credited to the German theorist, Friedrich Nietzsche. The wording was changed ever so slightly over time as Nietzsche said it: "That which does not kill us, makes us stronger." As it goes, he was absolutely correct. To fully understand this concept, we must first understand the word suffering. Let me make this clear, pain and suffering are two completely different things. Suffering can be painful plus the avoidance and resistance of physical, emotional, or spiritual pain and thus suffering is a combinational thing. So if that's what suffering is, pain can produce suffering. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He says that a person has to have had enough and, at some level, recognize that the suffering is self–created by their thoughts and that there is another way to live. The concept of surrendering is taught in every religion. Surrendering is the central message of Buddhism and is even found in the teachings of Jesus. Byron Katie writes in Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life: The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues with what is. When the mind is perfectly clear, what is, is what we want. If you want reality to be different than it is, you might as well try to teach a cat to bark. You can try and try, and in the end the cat will look up at you and say, "Meow." Wanting reality to be different than it is, is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
