 You need to explain why you have
chosen your topic
 Listen to the model intro

3. Hypothesis
 You need 3 bullet points outlining what
you expect to find out. As you have done
the investigation this is easy. They MUST be
linguistically based and you should have
one that is not proven to be correct

4. What is a methodology?
•This gets you many marks. You need to
give:
 an account of the methodology chosen
for data selection
 An outline of any problems (if any)
encountered during the collection
process.

5. Top marks
 To get top marks you have to hit this
criteria

 But what does this mean?

6. You need to:
 Explain why you decided to select your data
in particular – why were the children working
on a puzzle – team work, increased chance
of interaction etc
 Explain how you got your data
 Explain what you intended to investigate –
semantics, imperatives, inclusive pronouns etc
and why you think you will investigate these
 Any problems and how you overcame them.

in your methodology
 Write your methodology and have a copy
to me by ….

8. Analysis – top tips
 After marking many first drafts, there
appear to be similar points:
 Some of you are describing and NOT
analysing. You need to identify the results
and explain what this means

 Link to theorists/concepts
 Link to pragmatics

9.  Each section should have a question
 Link back to your hypothesis where
necessary
 Make sure you have analysed linguistic
methods and not simply looked at mul,
mpl, interruptions and sentence types.
 Grammar and pragmatics will get you
most moarks

10. Conclusion
 Bullet point hypothesis and write a brief
summary outlining what you found out
 Then one paragraph summarising your
findings

11. Evaluation
 This is short. Simply say how well you think it
went and what you would do if you had
more time. Evaluate the successes.
